Nighttime Race

Herro drove way beyond the speed limit, but he had no choice; it was either this or die.

It was a race against time, a race against a life; he needed to get there before it was too late.

He made a hard right, his body slamming hard against the door as he maneuvered his car to stay on the road.

'Just a few more miles,' he thought franticly.

Herro had been having a quiet evening, and was even thinking of cooking himself a meal, until she called.

She gave orders of his mission, and he was off, racing against time.

'I'm not gonna make it'

He still had so many miles to cover before he reached his destination.

'Crap!'

Herro looked over at the bag, and sat on the front seat of his car.

'It sure is not going to make it'

Being that the ride to complete the mission was so long and the bag being in danger, causing Herro to feel very irritated, he as finally at his destination.

Slamming on the car breaks, he grabbed his bag, barley allowing the car to be in a full stop before dashing out the door and up the steps of his destination.

Barging through the door, he made a sprint up the stairs, hoping that his entrance did not wake anyone up. As he rounded the corner, Herro saw that the light was on at his destination.

Slamming the door open, making its occupants jump in surprise, he finally felt a wave of relief hit him, and allowed himself to drop his hands, and the bag, to his knees in attempts to catch his breath.

"Herro!" she said in excitement.

"Did you get it? Did you get the ice cream? It is melted?" Asked a tired and very pregnant Relena.

Swetting and panting Herro held up the bag giving a lopsided grin. As he did, he could not help but notice that her hair was up, which was uncommon in her nighttime routine.

Herro watched as a very pregnant Relena scooted off the bed and waddled over to her husband, releasing him of the ice cream bag, bending down, as far as her large belly would allow her, to kiss him.

"Sorry about taking you away from your mission, I know Une will end up calling me to tell me off" Relena said while walking to her small kitchenette, which had been added to help soother any of her late night craving.

Standing up, Herro let out a chuckle as he made is way behind Relena, placing his hands on her engorged belly. After planting a kiss on the back of her neck replied, "I highly doubt she is going to make a fuss over this, besides, who wants to yell at an emotionally unbalanced pregnant woman anyways?"

Relena did a full stop, and looked cross eyed at Herro while trying to stop a smirk from taking over her face. Herro just chuckled more at her failed attempt to look annoyed at him and kissed her again, but this time on the cheek.

"You are lucky Mr. Yuy that you got your wife some ice cream and got it to her before it melted, cause if not," she said turning and pointing a metal ice cream scooper at him, "I would be taking that statement more sourly than I am now."

Still holding onto his wife, Herro smiled at the attempted threat. He knew that she could take him down in a second; maybe not with brute strength, but her tongue was sharper than any blade he had ever faced off against.

Finally caving into a smile, Relena promptly turned around to finish her task, and scooped several servings into two bowls. Leaving Relena's side while she completed her task, he grabbed some spoons and placed them firmly into the bowls before moving them to the table. He watched her as she made her way to the tiny table for two. He loved watching her, and even now, as her body showed signs of getting ready to have their child, all he wanted to do was soak in the sight of her.

"So, when do you need to get back?" Relena asked as she sat down.

Herro snorted, 'always to the point' he thought.

Taking a big sigh, he said, "I can head back tomorrow morning. Besides its just surveillance."

Relena made a sour face before shoving a spoon full of ice cream in her mouth.

Frowning, Herro put his spoon down and placed his hands on her free one. Picking it up, he kissed her fingertips, and then gently caressed it.

"This mission is temporary, and ends this weekend, I'll be home soon." Herro said ever so gently.

Relena let out an emotional sniff, pressing her free hand to her eyes to wipe away the tears that had already formed. "I know."

Letting out a ragged and emotional breath, Relena let out a laugh, "These darn pregnancy emotions have me all worked up over nothing"

"It's not over nothing, and I miss you too." Herro said while leaning over to help wipe away her tears.

Holding his hand to her face, she smiled.

"It really has been a long mission"

"Yes, four whole days without me, a very long mission," Herro playfully said.

Relena scoffed at the comment, but neither of them let go of the others hand. Yes, this mission might be short in terms of days, but Relena missed his nearness, and she knew he did too, even though he rarely verbalized it. Letting out an emotional sign, she let his hand fall from her face so that they could both get back to eating their well-deserved ice cream.
