Sweet Dreams
Chapter 368
Author's Note: Jewel is planning things for the creepy guy in the last episode with Enid. I should be afraid of season seven, but my girls are giving me awesome ideas. So, now on with season six. Tara and Eugene's conversation about the church is going to happen outside the infirmary, since it really has no baring on the story. As always, review please.
Rosita and Joey's POV:
Rosita walked over to the armory and grabbed a gun from the table. "The walkers' started to break through, they are leading them away now," she told Joey and Gus.
Joey stood up and grabbed a gun. "I'm heading out," he said.
"No, Rick wants you to stay here. David is with Summer, Jes is taking his place with Axel. You're needed here, in case they break through," Rosita told him as she put her hand on his arm. "I know you want to be out there for Summer, just like I want to be out there with Abraham, and Gus with Quinn. They are trusting us to keep the people in here safe," Rosita reminded him.
Joey nodded. "Who is in the tower?"
"I just sent Spencer up there," Rosita said.
"Do you know how good of a sniper shot he is?" Joey questioned Gus.
"There hasn't been a whole lot of use for sniper skills in here. Deanna didn't think it was necessary to see who could shoot or not," Gus explained. "It wasn't really a priority on her mind."
"We noticed," Joey said.
"You all can't be perfect shots," Gus pointed out.
Rosita looked at him. "Eugene and Gabriel are the only ones who can't handle guns, even the younger ones know how to use them if necessary. We have to work with what we got. You and Jill are both good shots right?"
Gus nodded. "Yeah, both with military experience," he said. "Brad too, but he's outside," he said.
"I'll go," Joey told Rosita. "There should be one of our group up there with an Alexandrian until we are able to make sure everyone can shoot," he said as grabbed a rifle. Joey looked at Gus. "Make sure everyone has some type of gun, even if they can't shoot. Show them how to load and aim it. Make sure they have another type of weapon, even a screwdriver, something to protect themselves with," he instructed as he walked away.
"Do you think that they'll get through?" Gus questioned Rosita.
"If Rick has any thing to say about it, then no, but we have to be prepared," Rosita said. "I was going to give some weapon training tomorrow, with knives or machetes, or axes," she said.
Gus nodded. "I'm glad you guys are here," he said. "I know that we haven't really showed it, but we needed things shook up. I've known Quinn a long time, before this, and I met Deanna before. She was good with what she did, she's a good leader."
"So is Rick," Rosita said as she walked away.
Ronnie, Tara and Eugene's POV:
Ronnie checked through bandage supplies as Denise sat on one of the beds looking through medical books. "Why are you making me do this again? You're here," Denise asked.
Ronnie turned and looked at her. "We've talked about this before, Denise."
"I know and if you up and die, then I'm willing to do the hard stuff, but until then, you should do it. You were trained to do it," Denise pointed out.
"So were you. I believe that even psychiatrists have to take medical courses. You said Pete didn't want you here, that's why you stayed away. Pete's not here, I am and I want you here. I need you here. I'd like one of us to be able to go on supply runs when we need medical supplies, and I don't think you'd be comfortable with that. So, I'd like to know if something happened, you'll be back here to take care of it. Until then, we work together, and you become a better doctor. You just need to have confidence, now back to studying," Ronnie said as she turned back to the work she was doing.
"Why do you have confidence in me?" Denise asked.
"Don't you think one of us needs to?" Ronnie questioned as Tara and Eugene came in, Tara going to get tylenol. "You're up," she told Denise.
Denise cleared her throat. "What's the aspirin for?" she asked as Tara turned around.
"Oh hi Dana," Tara said. "Ronnie."
"It's Denise," both Ronnie and Denise said.
"Sorry, Denise right," Tara corrected herself. "What's the aspirin for?"
"You're a doctor?" Eugene asked.
"Eugene," Ronnie said as she raised an eyebrow at him.
"Are you?" Denise asked. "I'm sorry, I, uh, heard that story," she said.
"Fair play," Eugene said. "But Ronnie's here, she should be looking at Tara."
"I agree, she should. But she says I need to learn in case she needs to go out for something or we get bombarded with injuries or she is unavailable or dies, so here I am," Denise said. "I'm a little nervous, I'm a psychiatrist," she told them.
"I tried to get her to talk to our group when she first came in but she let Pete do his whole macho act on her and talk her down and now she has no confidence in herself," Ronnie explained.
"I went to med school. I was even gonna be a surgeon, but after the panic attacks, I got really interested in psychology. And I think I'm really trying to lower expectations here," Denise told them.
"None of that kind of talk," Ronnie said. "Think of me as Chief of Medicine and you are a resident. Believe me this is not my first rodeo training someone, this is like old hat," she said.
"Can you do this? Can she do this?" Eugene asked.
"Eugene, shut up, she can do this," Tara said.
"She's going to do this," Ronnie said confidently.
"Ronnie's right, I need to know how to do this in case the worse case scenario happens. Pete didn't want me here, but I'm here now and I only kind of want to throw up," Denise said.
Ronnie nodded. "Sounds about normal for the first day of a resident," she told her.
"So why the aspirin?" Denise asked again.
"Oh Eugene and I were working on a platform for another guard tower, I got a little dizzy. You know I still get headaches," Tara said.
"Are you sure that you are alright with Denise helping you and not the experienced doctor?" Eugene asked.
"Eugene shut up," Tara said. "It's fine, she has to learn," she said.
"You're my first patient, and with that symptom, I'm pretty sure I can't kill you," Denise said as she had Tara sit down on the bed.
Eugene looked at the three women. "I mean, it's possible, if you miss like a homatoma or something," Eugene said.
The three of them looked at Eugene, each having a look of disbelief on there faces. "Eugene, get out," Ronnie said.
"If you don't mind, I'd like to stay, to make sure Tara is in good hands," Eugene said.
"I do mind, Eugene. I mind a lot. I'm here, and Tara is in perfectly good hands. Now, you need to go, go back to work on the platform. Be useful. You aren't being useful in here, you're just being annoying," Ronnie told him.
"I'm fine, Eugene," Tara informed him as he turned around and left. "I'm sorry about Eugene," she told Denise.
"It's fine," Denise answered.
"No it's not," Ronnie said. "I'm going to go continue inventory, call me if you need me. But you won't need me, you got this," she told Denise as she walked away.
Mitch's POV:
Mitch sighed as he stood in front of Sam's house, seriously thinking about turning around and not knocking. He knew that Mar wouldn't be happy and Daryl less so when he returned. He stepped up on the first step as Ron came out the door, obviously angry.
"What do you want?" Ron asked.
"My mom sent me over to hangout with Sam," Mitch said as he shook his head at how ridiculous that sounded.
"I don't want anyone from your group to be around us, especially around Sam," Ron told him. "Now scram," he ordered.
Mitch stepped up onto the next step and looked at him. "There's nothing else I would like to do than scram as you put it, but my mom asked me to come over here and see if I could help Sam, be a friend. In other words, help him not be afraid of his own shadow," he told the older boy.
"Does everyone in your group think they are better than us? That you have to try and save us?" Ron asked.
"We are better than you," Mitch said as he side stepped him and knocked on the door. "I don't care if you or your family get saved or not, but if you try and hurt Lexi or anyone else again, you'll be buried next to your father. Dixon's don't make threats," he told him as he waited for the door to open.
Ron grabbed Mitch by the arm. "What did you just say?"
"Ron! What are you doing?" Jessie exclaimed as she opened the door. "Mitch are you alright?"
Mitch nodded as he rubbed his arm as he pretended he was hurt. "I'm fine Mrs. Anderson."
"Mom he threatened me!" Ron exclaimed.
Jessie looked at him. "Ron, are you seriously telling me that a child threatened you? You're just looking for someone to blame. Mitch, how can I help you?"
"Mom sent me over to hang out with Sam. We thought he could use a friend after the death of his father," Mitch said sweetly.
"You seriously aren't buying this act are you?" Ron asked. "He's carrying a knife, he could hurt Sam."
"Actually, to be honest, I'm carrying a gun," Mitch said as he lifted his shirt up over his belt loop. "I know how to use it, for protection. We never know what's going to happen with the walkers," he explained.
"You just threatened to bury me next to my father," Ron told him.
"Ron, that's enough. Come in Mitch, I'm sure Sam would love to see you," Jessie said as she walked away.
Mitch gave a smirk back at Ron. "Guess I don't look much like a threat," he said as he walked into the house leaving Ron behind to look for Enid.
Carl and Lexi's POV:
Lexi walked next to Carl as he pushed Judith in the stroller, her being more vocal than usual. "She's going to be talking up a storm soon, aren't you Judy?"
Carl gave a small smile as he took Lexi's hand and smiled. "Yeah, then we'll be complaining that she won't shut up," he said. He pushed the stroller past some bushes and spotted Enid and Ron.
Lexi looked at him before removing her hand and started walking away.
"Lex, stop. What was that?" Carl asked.
"I could ask you the same question," Lexi told him. "Why did you stop to spy on them?"
"Because I'm worried about Enid hanging out with Ron. I mean aren't you after what he tried with you?" Carl asked.
"Enid can make her own decisions. He wouldn't try anything like that with her," Lexi told him.
"How do you know?" Carl asked.
"Because he was trying to make you jealous. He thought you were interested in Enid. You told me you weren't, has that changed?" Lexi asked.
"Of course not, Lex. What we've been through together is going to bond us together for as long as we're alive," Carl told her.
"That doesn't mean we're meant to get married or anything. I mean yeah when we were out there we were the only people the other person knew, so it was logical that we may develop feelings. But, now if you are interested in Enid, I'm not going to stand in your way Carl," Lexi told him.
Carl sighed. "I'm not interested in Enid. Would you stop trying to break up with me before we've been boyfriend and girlfriend for less than a week?"
Lexi laughed. "Alright. We should get home, Carol and Mar are expecting us to help watch Hope, Jenny and Judith."
Carl nodded as he turned the stroller around.
"Carl. Lexi," Father Gabriel called out from behind them.
"What?" Carl asked, the hostility evident in his voice.
"You heard what I told Deanna about your group," Gabriel stated rather than questioning it.
"It almost got Rick thrown out, it got a gun pointed in Eugene and Mika's face, of course we heard what you told Deanna. You were overheard anyway," Lexi said as she went to turn around.
"What do you want?" Carl asked.
"It was about me, not about you or your group, I know that now. I want to help. You tried to teach me back at the church, but I'm ready to learn now," Gabriel told them.
"Why should we trust you? You haven't exactly gave us much reason to trust you," Lexi told him.
"I'm hoping to prove that I made a mistake, that I have learned and I want to learn," Gabriel told them.
"You almost got Rick thrown out," Lexi repeated. "You got a gun pointed in Eugene and Mika's face. Mika! The sweetest ten year old there ever was, even in this day and time. What you said, it was dangerous, and it almost got people hurt," she pointed out.
"I know," Gabriel said.
Carl went to say something but Lexi cut him out. "Do you? You knew that you got your congregation killed by not opening the doors, but you still wondered out of the church and almost got us killed. You almost let Gareth in because you believed that he would let you go, the hell with the rest of us. Then we get here, after we kept you alive out there, and you tell Deanna that we were dangerous. But now you want us to believe that you've had this sudden change of heart?"
Carl looked at Gabriel. "You're going to need to tell everybody. That's the only way Lexi will ever start to believe you," he said.
"Yeah, I think you're right," Gabriel responded.
"Come by around three, we'll start with the machete," Carl said. "You'll help, too, right Lex?"
"Yeah, only because you may have to protect Judith and Hope," Lexi answered as she walked away with Carl.
