Writer's Note: After writing a SonElise short story in 2015 (and rewriting it in 2020), especially since it looked real good in the end and some of my friends liked it, I could not resist the urge to write another Sonic x Elise story, one where the two visit a Chao Garden. Besides, the Chao are cute creatures and, not only do they deserve respect, they must come back.

It had been a few short weeks since Sonic and Princess Elise reunited and had become a couple, ever since the day of their reunion and coming together, they'd been dating and the speedy blue hero had obliged his princess girlfriend's request to take her on adventures.

Together, they'd explored ancient ruins, places Sonic had missed during his travels and had fought dangerous foes. Well, it was Sonic who fought the foes to protect Elise, who just stood back and tried not to either get hurt or captured.

But one day, after so much time with hanging out with Elise, Sonic decided to show his girlfriend something. The two of them were walking through a lush green meadow, Sonic holding Elise's hand as he lead her along. The garden was somewhere close by.

"Where are you taking me, Sonic?" The redhaired princess asked, she was wearing her trademark white dress, shoes, gloves and feather that sat on her head. The fast blue hedgehog chuckled, "You'll see it when you see it, Elise."

"Lead on then."

Walking further and further into the meadow, Sonic could hear rushing water ahead along with animal noises, indicating that the place was close. His Chaos Harmony flute that sat at his side resonated, the creatures were somewhere nearby.

Soon, the two set foot into a wide open area with smooth green grass, gray rocks, miniature stone pillars, a cave in the side of a nearby rocky hill and a pond with a small waterfall. "This is the place you're taking me too?" Elise asked curiously, "Could this be what I think it is?"

Taking the Chaos Harmony flute in his hand, Sonic played a mellow tune with it and, within seconds, the small blue creatures emerged with orbs over their heads. The Chao wandered up to the visitors, chao-ing with curiosity and making other noises.

Elise gasped and dropped to her knees, bending down to get a closer look at the creatures. "A-Are these...?" She asked, "The legendary Chao?" The princess picked up a white Chao and held it, "I-I heard stories but never saw one, they're... they're really real."

"That's right, Elise." Sonic said, "I brought you here because I thought it be cool, us visiting a Chao Garden, raising some Chao, hanging out with Chao. Besides, they're the cutest creatures in the world who have quite the history. Especially with Knuckles' kind and Chaos."

"I learned about them in school, my pop told me stories about the Chao." Elise was scratching a Chao on the head as it purred, "But, I didn't have the time to go find a Chao or Chao Garden since... I was busy leading my people and we... had that... adventure incident."

"Well," Sonic said as he picked up a Chao that almost had Tails' traits, "Since we're together and we got all the time in the world, with no crazy evil scientists, time deities and creepy evil abominations running amuck right now, this is our chance."

Princess Elise took notice that the Chao she was holding was giving her a face that said it was hungry, she looked over at one of the nearby palm trees, found an apple on it and headed on over. She took the apple off the tree and fed it to the Chao, it ate it before burping.

The creature looked up into Elise's blue eyes, starting to change colors until its head was red like her hair with a white spot on the right of its head while its round body was white as its arms were peach tan. "Looks like the creature's becoming like you." Sonic commented, seeing this.
"I can see." Elise tenderly rubbed the purring Chao's belly, seeing its content even when it suddenly burped. "Just what should I name you, little one?" She asked the creature, "I can't just assume you're a boy or a girl, what gender are you?"

"Eh," Sonic shrugged with confusion, "Chao are genderless as much as they're mysterious, if you want, you can assume that Chao in your hands is a girl since, well, the little one basically just assumed your color patterns and probably your characteristics."

One Chao that was nuzzling the blue hedgehog's leg and purring soon glowed and took on a blue colored appearance with its head becoming almost like Sonic's with the spikes on the back of its head and its little feet becoming red, gray and gold like his shoes.

"Chaolise." Elise said thoughtfully, hugging her new friend, "I think I call this one Chaolise and I'll assume she's a girl since she just grew some female eyelashes." She pointed to the small pair of dark lashes that had appeared over Chaolise the Chao's blue eyes.

"Wicked cool." Commented the blue hedgehog, "Well, I'm callin' my new Chao buddy here Chronic the Hedgechao and assuming he's a he since Chronic's picked up my traits." The blue colored Chao raced around the area at Sonic speed, attracting the attention of other Chao.

"Aww, double cute." Elise exclaimed, witnessing the sight, "We got a Sonic Chao." She set down Chaolise, who approached Chronic. Both Sonic and the princess watched to see what would happen, then, to their amazement, the two Chao started making out.

"Damn, I didn't see that coming." The fastest thing alive remarked, watching his new Chao pet and Elise's new friend bond in a semi-romantic way. More Chao emerged to watch what was happening and greet the visitors, singing a small chorus-y tune in Chao speak.

"We're surrounded by so much cuteness." Elise sighed happily, petting some Chao on the head as her Chao returned to her, sitting on her arm just as Chronic ran up Sonic and layed down on his head the exact way the blue hedgehog would lay on the ground.

The two of them spent the next hour hanging out in the Chao Garden with their little creature pals, getting to know the Chao more, feeding them whenever they got hungry and watching as they changed a bit, all while often watching a few Chao activities like Chao Racing.

As a matter of fact, they decided to have Chronic and Chaolise take part in the Chao Race unfolding in one of the nearby Chao caves to see how well they did. Elise and Sonic watched as their Chao raced along a colorful raceway, through a pond and towards the finishing mark

Seeing Chronic finish first and Chaolise finish second next to several other Chao warmed the couple's hearts, next, they played some ball with the Chao. Sonic found a small round ball lying around and tossed it to a nearby tree where Chronic fetched it in twenty seconds flat.

Giggling, Elise threw a ball of her own around, watching her Chao attempt to catch it before Chronic did. While Chaolise was athletic, Chronic was the fastest Chao and he ended up getting the ball for Sonic, much to the hedgehog's delight.

Quite a while later, the blue hedgehog and the human princess were sitting and resting beneath a tree with their two new pet Chao resting on their shoulders, holding hands as a couple white and green Chao surrounded the duo and looked at them with curiosity.

"That was fun." Elise said with satisfactory.

"Wanna come here again sometime?" Sonic asked.

"Even though we have two Chao, maybe? I wouldn't mind."

"Chao chao chao! Chao chao!" Chronic Chao-ed, nuzzling against Sonic's head.

"Chao chao chao chao!" Chaolise said, hugging Elise's arm."

"Sounds like they wanna go home with us." The blue hedgehog noted, aware that these creatures were sensing they were about to apparently leave. "We'll take 'em back to the castle." Elise said, "I can promise you that my handmaidens would love to see a Chao."

Noticing that the sun would be soon setting and that it was late in the afternoon, Sonic stood and helped his royal girlfriend to his feet, their Chao at their side. Waving goodbye to the other Chao, Sonic and Elise set off with their new Chao pets, agreeing they could visit again anytime and play with the other Chao some more as well as make more Chao friends.
