Better Days

Chapter 381

Author's Note: Another chapter for you. I am out of the hospital, so here is a chapter to celebrate. Please review, let me know that you are still reading. So Summer is going to wake up, and of course she isn't going to tell Jesus and the gang about Alexandria. I do have to have Jesus find them the same way and make them think summer is dead. This is the Walking Dead. Review please.

Hilltop POV:

Gregory crossed his arms as he stood in the back of the room looking at the Doctor checking out the girl on the bed. "I don't like this,"Gregory answered.

"We figured that out the first few times you said it,"Archie said from behind him. "How is she Doc?"the Scott asked.

Carson stood up from the bed and looked at him. "She should have never been walking on this leg," he said. "Her wrist is also bruised, some one grabbed her a couple days ago, and she has several wounds, including gun shots, that have been healed over time."

"Who doesn't have gun shot wounds these days?" Rayna says.

"Does it look like she has regularly been mistreated?" Jesus questioned.

"A little underweight, but we all are now a days,"Carter answered. "She's still running a fever, her body is fighting off an infection from the wound. I won't be able to tell more until she wakes up."

"I don't want any of our medicines to be used on her, she's not one of our people. We shouldn't be wasting resources on a stranger," Gregory said.

Carson looked at him as he walked over to the door. "Gregory, no offense, but lay off."

"Excuse me?" Gregory asked.

"I'm a doctor, and that means that I took an oath to help people. I can not turn my back on someone who is injured and she needs medicine and she will get it,"Carson told him.

"I agree with Carson, Gregory. She is in need of help and we will be able to give her that help," Jesus said.

"We have to provide for Negan and the saviors," Gregory reminded them.

"Let's take this outside, the girl needs to rest," Jesus said as he held the door open. He waited until everyone went outside the door before he closed it. "Gregory, there isn't anything to talk about right now. She is injured and unconscious, and we can't turn her away. We have an obligation to help her. If it was Rayna and she was injured, wouldn't you want someone to give her aid until she could return home?Someone who wasn't the Saviors?"Jesus questioned.

Gregory looked at Rayna then at Jesus. "We aren't talking about Rayna, we are talking about a girl that we don't know anything about," Gregory said.

"And, anyone who found Rayna it would be the same thing," Jesus said.

"Gregory, she is staying. When she recovers, I will personally take her back to where she comes from," Archie said.

"What if she doesn't have any people?"Rayna asks.

"Then she stays here, if she wants," Jesus answered.

"But right now, I need to make sure we have antibiotics to reduce her fever. Her wound will need to be cleaned regularly and someone will need to stay with her in case her infection and fever gets worse," Carson said.

"I don't want any of our items to be used on her,"Gregory repeated.

"I pretty well think you've been overruled on that gregory," Archie told the leader. "Don't you have something else to do? Like figuring out who you're going to sacrifice next when Negan isn't happy," Archie hissed at him.

Gregory went to say something but was interrupted by a crash inside the room, causing Jesus and Archie to both go into the room.

Summer's POV:

Summer opened up her eyes and adjusted to the light. She immediately looked around and sat up being alert. She listened to the voices outside the door trying to see how many different voices that was there. She glanced around checking for anything that could be used as a weapon and noticed that her bag and how were laying across the room on a chair. She glanced at the door and tentatively put her good leg on the ground. She placed her hand on her bad hip and took a breath before she placed it on the ground. She reached for the nightstand to steady herself as she stood up, taking a step. She immediately fell on the ground when her bad leg landed on the ground, bringing the items including a vase crashing to the ground. She picked up a piece of the broken vase as she struggled to stand using the nightstand. Summer raised her head sharply as two men walked in the room. "I don't know where I am, or who you are, and I appreciate you patching me up, but I am just going to collect my weapons and be on my way."

The brown haired man with the longer hair came forward extending his hands in a non threatening matter. "You're at the Hilltop, my name is Paul Rovia, my friends call me Jesus. You might remember me before you passed out," he said as he looked at her.

"I don't," Summer said as she looked at the red haired man. "You're wearing a skirt," she said as she started to fall.

Archie went and grabbed her before she hit the ground. "It's a kilt," the man answered as he helped her to the bed.

"I'm Dr. Carson," an older man introduced himself. "You are running a fever, you have an infection and you can't stand. You are in no shape to go anywhere. I am going to have to insist that you stay and get better," the man told Summer.

"I can't do that," Summer said as she went to stand up again.

"Lassie, you heard the doctor,"Archie said. "You are in no shape to go anywhere,"he said.

"How about everyone gives our guest some room, Gregory, Rayna the two of you go talk about you coming with us today. Carson and Archie go get the medicine for her, and some clean clothes. I'll stay here and watch over our injured guest," Jesus instructed. "Get some food also, it'll help with her recovery, right Dr. Carson?"

"Yes,"Carson answered as he went out the door.

Summer looked at Jesus and crossed her arms. "You some religious freak by introducing yourself as Jesus?"

Jesus laughed. "Not at all, I was nicknamed as a kid because of the resemblance. You're safe here," he said as he sat down.

"I'm sorry if I don't believe you," Summer told him. "I can't stay here, I need to get back," she said.

"How about we start with your name? Common courtesy right?" Jesus asked.

"Why did you bring me here?"Summer questioned.

"You passed out in front of me, you were bleeding, and running a fever," Jesus said. "What did you want me to do? Did you want me to leave you to die, either by the infection or the dead? I'm not that type of person," Jesus said as he looked at her. "I don't think you are either."

"You don't know me," Summer told him.

"You're right, I don't. But I do know that you obviously have a place because you are to clean to be living on your own. You have weapons, you also had food and grenades in your bag, also had smoke bombs. There was a lot of dead ones in the area we were in, more than usual. You were shot with an arrow that Archie made," Jesus told her.

"One of your people shot me?" Summer questioned.

"No, you were shot by one of the arrows that he made. They were taken by an enemy of ours," Jesus said.

"So your enemy shot me?"Summer asked.

"One of his men," Jesus said. "You ever run into a man named Negan? Or the saviors?"Jesus asked.

"No," Summer admitted.

"That's one good thing. Maybe the ones that shot you were taken out by the dead ones," Jesus said.

"Walkers', we call them walkers',"Summer said.

"Your people?" Jesus asked.

"My family. I'm not going to tell you where I'm from, or who my family is. I have to protect them. I don't know you, any of you,"Summer informed him.

"That is perfectly understandable,"Jesus said. "But if I was your family, I would want you to take care of yourself before trying to return to them."

"They'll be worried,"Summer said.

"I'm sure they will be, but if you do what Carson says then you should get better soon,"Jesus said. "Can I check to see if you are running a fever?" he asked politly.

Summer nodded as he reached to touch her forhead quickly.

"Still running a fever, someone will stay with you until you get better," Jesus said.

"Just in case I take a turn for the worse,"Summer said. "Do you run this place?"

"Me? No, that's Gregory. He was the one that gave you the evil eye. He's just nervous, because of Negan. He takes care of his people," Jesus said.

"The guy with the kilt, he was raising his voice outside the door when I woke up. Is it going to be a problem for me to be here?" Summer asked.

"Don't pay any attention to what Gregory has to say. He may call you the wrong name, but of course we don't actually know your name yet,"Jesus said with a smile.

"Summer," Summer introduced herself. "As soon as I get better, I'm out of here,"she said.

"When Carson says you are alright, then you can go. I will make sure that you get there, where ever that is,"Jesus said. He turned his head as the door opened and Gregory came in.

"Jesus I need to talk with our guest,"Gregory said.

"I'll stand back here," Jesus said.

"I'm Gregory, I am in charge of the Hilltop," he told her. "It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Hilltop," he said.

Summer looked at him. "No you don't," she said.

Gregory arched an eyebrow. "Why would you say that?"

"I'm not stupid," Summer said. "I'm a drain on your resources, you don't know me and you think I'm going to bring nothing but trouble to you. You would have left me out there, because you really don't want any trouble. I don't trust you either, I don't know you or your people, and I want out here as fast as you want me out. I'm not going to tell you where my people are, so you can just forget about that. Now, if you don't mind, Jesus and I were having a nice talk before you came in," Summer said as she watched him turn to leave.

"You know I'll expect you to work for what you take or make it up to me some other way,"Gregory said.

"Would my knee in your groin work? Because that is exactly what is going to happen if you talk to me like that again,"Summer warned as Gregory left.
