The Forgotten Daughter

~Chapter One: The Beginning~

September 23, 2007

Alone.. Most of my days were spent alone here in this dusty old house. You see I wasn't always alone, at one point of time I traveled the road with my brothers. I was the youngest child by seven years and the only daughter in the family. I was named after our mom, My first name being Mary and my middle name Nicole. My brothers are Sam and Dean Winchester. Dean is the oldest, he was eleven when I was born and Sam was just seven. Both of my brothers call me Nickel, or Nick short for Nicole, never Mary..

My parents were Mary and John Winchester, both of them now were deceased. My mother died when I was barely two months old from a fire in my nursery. My mother was killed by a demon named Azazel or Yellow Eyes as John called him. The demon was trying to feed me demon blood, to turn me into one of his soldiers the night she died. He was stopped by my mother before he was able to reach me, but to our dismay we found later, he had gotten to my brother Sammy before she could stop him...

John my so called "father" was killed two years ago. Ironically the same demon that killed mom, also killed him. He made a deal with the Azazel after we had been in a bad accident. We were hit by an eighteen wheeler truck that was driven by a possessed truck driver. The accident left Dean dying with a severe head injury and multiple organ failures. Me on the other hand was left paralyzed from my waist down and in a coma. John traded the colt and his life for our lives. Dean woke from near death healthy as a horse, where as I woke up three days later from a coma and still paralyzed. I still remember that day well. At the time Dean was just 26 and Sam 22, and me only 15.

*Flash Back*

I awoke to the sound of machines beeping around me and the moon light shining through the hospital window. My eyes wandered to the corner of the room where my brother Sammy sat stretched out in a hospital chair fast asleep. My head hurt severely as I turned it to my right to see Dean asleep in a chair. His chair was pulled up to my bed with his head resting on the bed. Looking down I saw his left hand cradling mine and carefully I squeezed it weakly. I watched as his eyes fluttered open and he stared in shock at me.

" Oh baby girl, " he said as he kissed my hand and brushed my bangs from my face.

"What happened?" I asked My voice hoarse as I spoke. "

"Sam! Sammy! " Dean called out and the looked back at me sadly.

"Whoa.. What is it Dean, " I heard Sammy say as he rubbed the sleep out of his eyes.

"Look who's awake," Dean replied.

I heard shuffling from the corner , " Oh thank God , " I heard Sam say.

"Bubba," I whimpered as I tried to turn my head back towards Sam.

" Whoa! Whoa, Whoa! Take it easy Sissy, " Sam said as I tried to face him.

I closed my eyes from the pain and tried to will back tears, my head and neck was pounding. I felt a hand brush the side of my face and opened my eyes to see Sam with a busted lip starting at me with tears in his eyes.

"What happened? Where is dad?" I asked worriedly.

"Dad is dead sissy, three days now," Dean explained.

"How? "

"We don't know," Sam began, " What we do know , is that we almost lost you Nickel... You've been in a coma for four days. "

" Where is dads body? " I asked on the brink of tears.

"Back at Bobby's.. We wouldn't give him a funeral till you were awake and able to go home," Dean answered as he stood wiping his face .

"We need to go then, his body can't set much longer," I said sadly and set up, wincing in pain.

Once sitting up, I threw back the blanket and attempted to swing my legs over the bed. I tried and tried and began to cry when they wouldn't move.

"I can't feel my legs," I cried out and began to sob looking at my brothers , " Why can't I feel my legs? "

"You suffered a spinal cord injury Nicole, " Sam explained his hand upon my back.

"What does that mean?" I questioned looking at Dean .

My oldest brother had tears in his eyes as he looked to me, " It means you can't and probably will never walk again sissy. "

*Present Day*

The sky roared above as the rain hammered the roof of the old house. I set in my chair, thinking about that dreadful day two years ago. A lot had happened since then. I was now seventeen years old (as of last week) and spent most of the time alone in my small bedroom or kitchen at Bobby's house.

After we gave John a hunters burial, my brothers insisted I stay with Bobby. Apparently having a wheel chair bound sister made it hard to travel constantly. No longer did I hunt after that day, but instead stayed behind for research. I ran the salvage yard for Bobby and watched the phones. It was rather boring most of the time and peaceful. Bobby soon became like a dad to me after I moved in permanently with him. He made sure I graduated and took care of myself. He was the father John could never be to me a and I was the daughter he never had. We celebrated each holiday and never did he forget my birthday. I still remember the Christmas after the accident.

I remember it was the week before Christmas, I was dreading the holiday. Growing up, John never really celebrated Christmas with us, most of the time he was gone. Anyways, I remember sitting in the kitchen reading a book on Jinn and drinking coffee when the front door flew open. Wheeling myself to the main room, I smiled as I saw Bobby carry in a large fir tree. That Christmas was the first one I remembered having since I was three.

As time went on I became more independent. I learned how to cook for myself and bake very well. My brothers would call every chance they got and at least once a month visit. Dean loved the pie I would make for him, Apple being his favorite. Where as Sammy loved the Lasagna I made. No longer did Bobby fill the house with canned chili and beans, but instead with ingredients for me to bake with. My brothers would often stay a night or two before once more leaving me alone or with Bobby. Bobby hung around as much as possible but often would find himself hunting with Rufus or helping my idiot brothers.

I loved my family dearly and would give anything for them, but life was rather lonely. I missed hunting, and I missed walking. I missed being able to run like I once did with Sam. Most of all, I missed the times were Dean acted like Dean.

A few months back, My brother Sam was abducted when they stopped at a cafe. He was dragged by Azazel to Cold Oak, South Dakota, where he and four other "special children" had to battle it out to survive. Needless to say All hell broke loose ( literally) and Sam was killed by a soldier named Jake. I remember setting by my brother and praying to God that he would somehow come back to us. I never left Sam's bedside, that was until one day Bobby and Dean got into an argument.

*Flashback*

I sat listening to My brother and Bobby from Sam's bedside. I couldn't believe my brother was gone. My heart ached in places I never knew existed within me.

"Dean... I hate to bring this up, I really do. But don't you think maybe it's time... we bury Sam?" I heard Bobby ask.

" No, " Dean replied sternly.

I heard Bobby sigh, "maybe..."

"Torch his corpse? Not yet, Bobby, " My brother spat bitterly.

Rolling myself away from Sam, I wheeled myself into the main room .

"I want you to come with me," Bobby began looking to Dean, " I could use your help."

My brother snorted and then looked out the window as Bobby continued to talk.

"Something big is going down – end-of-the world big."

I could tell Dean was growing angry and as if on cue proceeded to yell and get in Bobby's face.

"You don't think I've given enough? You don't think I've paid enough? I'm done with it. All of it. And if you know what's good for you, you'd turn around, and get the hell out of here, " Dean yelled and then shoved Bobby , " I mean it!! Go!! "

Wheeling my chair to My brother, I placed an a hand upon his arm. My eyes were filled with tears at his words. He looked down to me and then back at Bobby before speaking once more.

" I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Please, just go, " he whispered looking away, " Both of you. "

"Dean please no! Don't make me go," I pleaded and he just looked to me with tearful eyes before turning away.

Bobby walked to My side and placed a kiss on my forehead. I knew then I had no choice. Once again I was being pushed away.

"You know where we will be," I heard Bobby say as he gripped my wheelchair .

*Present Day*

Two days after Dean made us leave, he showed up at the house with Sam. I knew he had made a deal the moment I saw my oversized brother standing before me and smiling. Dean wouldn't even look at me as he arrived with Sam, he knew that I knew. After a few days we managed to beat Azazel, and finally after sixteen years the Demon was dead. Sam was the one who made Dean confess, and the moment he said he had one year left, made my heart nearly break in two. That was three months ago, and since then I had only saw my brothers twice.

Sighing, I stared at the window and watched the rain fall. Bobby had left an hour ago for a milk run as he called to retrieve some supplies. Knowing him all to well, I knew that meant beer. Finally I got tired of watching the rain and wheeled to the vanity. Grabbing my brush, I carefully combed through my auburn hair, It was curly and sat at my collar bone. Looking closely in the mirror I could see my green eyes looked haggard. Taking off my glasses I cleaned the lenses and sighed as I placed them back upon my freckled face.

My stomach growled as I sat in my chair, it was already noon and I had yet to eat anything. Wheeling to the kitchen, I began to rummage through the fridge, but stopped as I heard the familiar roar of an engine. Slamming the fridge door shut, I hurriedly wheeled myself to the front door and opened it to see my brothers stepping out of the Impala.

"Sam! Dean!" I yelled as I wheeled down the ramp Bobby made me.

"Hey sis!" Dean said aloud as he hugged me tight.

"Hey!" Sam said aloud, " I'm here too you know. "

I chuckled at my brothers and grabbed Sam's hand. He kneeled before me and reached forward pulling me into a hug. As he pulled back I looked to them both smiling.

"You didn't tell me you were coming to visit.. If I had known I would have made your favorites."

Sam chuckled at me, " That's why we didn't tell you, we wanted to surprise you. "

"Yeah," Dean replied, " I remember someone had a birthday last week and we missed it.. I called Bobby and told him we were coming, and he said he would go grab some Chinese for us.. It's still your favorite isn't it? "

"Yes it is ," I said smiling, " Well come on, let's go in and get out of this weather. It looks like it will start raining again soon. "

As we went inside the old house my brothers looked around suprised, I had been slowly organizing the place. I giggled at my brothers, and while they put their bags in the main room, I made us a pot of coffee. I heard footsteps behind me and as I finished the coffee, turned too see Sam.

"Did you get settled in ok?" I inquired as I turned to face him.

"Yes sis we did. Dean wanted to grab a shower real quick.. I see you have been cleaning more, " he replied chuckling," How have you been holding up?" He asked me as he leant against the door frame.

"The best I can I suppose.. Therapy sucks as usual.. I can feel most of my legs, but still they are nowhere near strong enough to walk on. "

"That's great Sis, have you told Dean?"

" No not yet, I don't see the point really... It isn't like I'll be able to walk again Sam, I've kind of accepted that fate.. "

"You could though, I mean there are several people who after years of therapy can get around again ," he explained hopeful to me..

Looking down I tried to avoid talking about my condition, it was something I had learned to accept. Looking back up I smiled at him and quickly changed the subject.

" I've been doing a lot of research as you know to help all of you.. I've also been searching for a way to break Dean's deal.."

He looked to me eagerly as he sat in one of the rickety chairs, " And? " he questioned.

"Nothing Sam, I have been through every damn book in this house.. I don't see how we can break the deal, other than killing the demon he made it with," I replied sadly as I grabbed two mugs from the counter, pouring us both a cup of coffee.

"Do you think that would work?" He asked as I set a mug of coffee in front of him.

"Hell I don't know.. It's a long shot Sammy," I explained as I wheeled back to the counter to grab my coffee, " Bobby thinks it may be the only way too. "

He sighed at my words and reached into his pocket, " What about this? I found it on the web, " he began as he handed me a piece of paper, " It looks to me like Latin. I tried to translate it the best I could, but with Dean always around, it's hard to sneak one by him. "

Looking at the paper I saw it was indeed Latin, luckily Bobby had several books to help with translating.

" I'll see what I can do when you both head out again. It will probably take me a couple days but I should be able to decipher it, " I explained with a slight smile as I tucked the paper into my shirt pocket.

"Thanks Nickel," Sam replied smiling.

"Don't thank me, he's my brother too Sammy, " I smiled.

The rain picked up again outside, and the thunder roared loudly shaking the house. Looking out the window I saw lights pulling up and knew it was Bobby.

"Bobby is back," I said looking to Sam.

He took a drink from his coffee and looked out the window to see Bobby struggling to carry everything.

"I'll be back, let me go and help him," he said aloud as he stood front he table .

"I'll hold the door open," I replied and followed him to the front door and opening or for him.

" Hey there Sam, " I heard Bobby say as Sam approached him.

" Hey Bobby, " My brother replied and hugged him, " Do you need a hand? "

" That would be nice, " I heard him say and then lean in to whisper something to Sam.

I sat and watched the both of them unloading the car, until I felt a large pair of hands cover my eyes.

" Guess who? " the voice said and I knew well it was Dean.

" Let me guess, the Easter bunny, " I replied chuckling as he moved his hands.

" Do I look like a bunny? " he asked jokingly as he grabbed the door, holding it open as I was, " I got it sis. "

"Thanks Dean."

Sam and Bobby ran for the door and quickly I wheeled myself back allowing them room to come inside.

"Damn rain," Bobby muttered causing me to chuckle .

"The weather channel says we have three more days of it ," I said aloud and was rewarded with an eye roll from him as he set down the brown paper bags.

Dean wheeled me to the kitchen, while Sam grabbed some plates from the cabinet. As he parked me in front of the table, he helped Bobby unloads the groceries and Chinese food.

"Now Nick, don't kill me," Bobby began as he pulled out a cake from a bag, " But I thought you deserved a Birthday cake. "

I rolled my eyes as I looked at him, " Please tell you didn't buy a candle too. "

"Nope he didn't, " Dean said mischievously as he dug into his back pocket, " But I did. "

"Please tell me your not gonna sing to me, I'm seventeen Dean," I said annoyed .

" But where's the fun in that. It's a rule, if you got cake and you got a candle, you got sing. Isn't that right Sammy, " he said looking to Sam.

"I'm afraid he's got a point sis," Sam replied and smiled just as mischievous at me.

"Come on Nick, let's eat before the food gets cold .. I have a present for you later anyhow, " Bobby said looking to me and patting my shoulder.

Together the four of us sat around the table eating and talking about all of the recent hunts. My favorite story was the recent hunt my brothers had been on Involving the cursed Rabbits foot. Bobby had warned them of the foot and told them specifically not to lose it. Imagine our surprise when Dean called two hours later informing us that Sam had indeed lost the rabbits foot along with his shoe as well. When dinner was over here, the three of them sang Happy Birthday to me and had me wish upon the candle. I smiled at the three of them and wished that everything would be alright for our family.

A little while later Bobby stood up and walked out of the kitchen. When he returned he had a box wrapped in newspaper in his hand.

"Here Nick, Happy Birthday," he said happily to me as he handed me the box.

Smiling at him and both of my brothers, I carefully unwrapped the box. Inside the box sat a new knife, with my initials engraved. Holding it in my hand, I inspected the knife and smiled at as I placed it back in the box.

"Thank you Bobby, I love it," I said to the older man.

" We bought you some stuff too sis, " Dean said standing and walking to me, " We put them in your room for you. "

" Them? " I asked curiously.

" Yes them, " he chuckled, " Bobby said some of your jeans were wore out along with some of your shirts. Sammy and I grabbed you a couple new shirts and jeans before we got here. "

"Thank you," I said to them both and began wheeling my way to My room .

As I opened the door I smiled at the clothes, both of my brothers knew me so well. Making the bed lay two flannel shirts along with two pairs of boot cut jeans. I was far from girly and most of the time growing up wore my brothers hand me downs. Wheeling to the bed I sat the clothes in my lap and smiled as I put them in my dresser.

"Do you like them?" Sam asked from my door way.

"I do very much, thank you Sammy."

"I'm happy," he replied relieved , " I'm glad your not girly, it was hard enough picking those out."

I chuckled at my brother, " We both know I'm not lady like enough for that. "

"Guys come on, I set the cards out," Dean yelled from the kitchen causing both Sam and I to smile .

"We better get in there," I said laughing at my older brother .

"I suppose we should," Sam said laughing himself and walking to me and placing his hands on my chair, " Here let me help. "

"Thanks Sam, I love you bubba. "

"I love you too Nickel," he replied as he pushed an to the kitchen .

That night, we forgot our worries. That night we forgot about the stupid deal and that night, I forgot about soon being left alone once more. Life at the moment was great, but sadly not for long..
