All Nightmare Long

Chapter 387

Author's Note: Walking Dead is back, go Rick and company! Now to go check on the rest of our crew, David is giving me bad ideas. Bad bad David. Review please.

Axel and David POV:

Axel got out of the car, and jumped on the hood, looking through the binoculars. "The walkers' got to the gate,"he told the other three occupants.

David looked in the direction of Alexandria. "We should find some place to hold up," he said.

"We can't leave, my brother is in there, your brother is in there. We have to figure out a way to help them," Emily told them.

"How do you expect to help them? We can't exactly draw them away, there's to many," David told them.

"Can we send some kind of signal to them?" Emily asked.

Axel shook his head. "Not with what we have," he said. "David is right, we need some place to hold up, just for tonight," he said as he looked at Emily.

Nikki looked at Emily, then at Axel. "There's an abandoned store about a mile off the main road. It wasn't finished before the fall, it was supposed to be a little store for the community, just a quick twenty four hour place for the necessities."

"Right, it would be a good place to hold out for the night, one of us can stand guard from the roof," Emily explained. "But we need to come back, first thing tomorrow," she said as she looked at David. "I don't want to hear that it's a waste of time. Eric wouldn't give up on me, if I was in there and he was out here. I think Joey would feel the same. Plus we can figure out how we can help them tomorrow."

"We've still got the grenades, and smoke bombs, between the four of us, I am sure we can figure out how to get inside Alexandria," Axel told them. "Let's get going, I don't want to be out here at night," he said. "David get in the back, Emily knows where she's going."

David got in the back and glanced over to Nikki, then at the front of the car at Axel and Emily. "Do you think they will be alright?" he asked.

Axel glanced in the rear view mirror. "The gates will hold. Rick will make sure the town keeps safe and that they will do what needs to be done."

"Are you sure there's nothing we can do tonight? It feels like we're running away, running away when they need us the most," Emily told them.

"We won't do them any good if we're dead," Axel told her. "Rick would say that we need to be safe, so we can be of help to them later. We would have to use lights to be able to see anything tonight, and light attracts the walkers'. We can't be of any help to them if we die ourselves. We're not abandoning them," Axel assured her. "We don't do that to family, we don't leave them behind."

"My only family is Joey," David said from the back seat.

Emily turned around and looked at him. "So you're saying that you don't give a damn about anyone else but Joey? That doesn't seem to fit the whole family vibe I pick up from Rick."

David rolled his eyes. "If he had to pick between Jewel and his children and us, it would be his family every time. Everyone thinks Rick is some kind of superhero, he's just a man."

Axel looked in the mirror and mouthed shut up. "Is that it?" Axel asked Emily and Nikki.

"Yes," Emily answered as Axel pulled up the car.

"Has it been cleared?" David asked as he got off the car after it stopped.

"When we first settled the community, Aiden and Nicholas took a supply crew to all the places around here," Emily said.

"But they didn't check out why there were no walkers' around the area," Axel said.
"I'd feel better if we checked it out ourselves. Nikki and Emily, get the supplies out of the car, David and I are going to clear out the building," he said.

"We are?" David questioned.

"We are," Axel answered as he knocked on the window. "What you said about Rick, about him being just.a man, you're right."

David looked at him. "I'm surprised that you said that. You all seem to be kissing his ass, I thought you'd all forgot that," he said.

"It's clear,"Axel said as he went in. "Rick has kept us alive, but we all help. What's your problem?"

"No problem, none of all," David answered.

"How's the shoulder? I should check on that for you, you know so it doesn't get infected," Axel said as he went to the door. "It's clear," he told the two women.

David looked at him. "It's fine, it can wait until we get back to Alexandria. I'll take first shift,"he said as he looked at the other three. "If no one has any objections," he added.

"No, no objections," Axel told him.

Emily watched him leave then looked at Axel. "How did he survive in your group? His attitude is horrible," she said.

"I agree, but we all handle stress differently," Axel said. "Let's try to get some rest."

"I'll take first watch," David offered. "We really shouldn't have to have more than one shift, since we want to get going early," he told them.

"You want one of us to go with you?" Emily questioned.

"No, I'm fine, it'll be fine. We shouldn't have any problems tonight, just keep the lights off. There's no reason two of us to be tired. Emily and Nikki aren't used to being up for twenty four hours, or on guard, and you're the driver Axel. You should get some rest," David assured them. "I mean I'm not really going to be able to sleep with worrying about Joey and wondering if Summer is still alive. I mean I'm going to have to figure out a way how to tell Joey that she's missing."

Nikki looked at him as she sat down. "You care about us now?"

David rolled his eyes as he picked up the gun. "I'll check the parameter," he said as he went out the back room. He glanced down at the keyes on the table and grabbed them and slid them into his pocket. He went outside and walked around and glanced back at the building, noticing that Axel and the two women were putting up cardboard on the windows. He looked at the car then touched his shoulder. David knew that he was going to have to explain the self inflicted gun shot wound. He made the decision that he was going to take the car and leave, he just had to wait for the others to fall asleep.

Early next morning:

Emily walked outside to check on David, to see if he wanted to get a couple hours of sleep. She stopped and looked at where the car should be. "Damn it," she cursed. "Axel! Nikki!" she called as she went into the back.

"What's going on?" Axel asked as he sat up.

"David stole the car, took one of the bags with him,"she reported.

"He left?" Nikki asked. "Do you think he went back to Alexandria?"

Emily looked at her. "No, I think that the coward ran off."

"Why would he do that? His brother is back in Alexandria," Nikki said as she stood up.

"He'd rather run then face that same brother and tell him he abandoned Summer," Axel said. "We're going to have to walk, Nikki are you going to be able to make it with your asthma?"

"I'm going to have to, right?" Nikki asked. "You think David left Summer? Do you think he killed her?"

Axel shook his head. "No, I don't think he went that far. You saw how he didn't want to risk trying to get into Alexandria, how he was ready to abandon it. Summer would never have agreed to that, she would have called him a coward and she would have went out by herself."

"What about the gun shot wound?" Emily asked.

"Probably self inflicted," Axel said. "I can't be sure,"he said.

"But, he didn't want us to check the wound. Why did I let him go out alone?" Emily questioned.

"If you went with him, then he might have hurt you," Axel pointed out.

"He's right," Nikki told her. "So now we have to figure out how to get inside Alexandria? And we have to figure out how to tell Joey that we think David left his girlfriend out there alone to die?"

"Yes to both," Emily answered.

"Then we have to tell him that
