IT WAS JULY OF 1995. Life was good. Violet Barnes had all she wanted in life. A good relationship with her parents, friends, her own boyfriend, her band, decent enough grades.

She was the 1/2 of the lead singer of Sunset Curve. The other being her boyfriend, Luke.

They met when they were still kids. It was in fifth grade when Violet was new to the school. She had just moved to California, previously living in Washington. She was a bit shy in meeting new people because of how kids at her old school in Washington were.

Luke was the first one to talk to her. the two of them clicked and were instantly friends. It was most likely because of their mutual love of music.

He introduced her to his other close friends he had known for practically his whole life, Reggie, Alex, and Bobby. since that day, the group of five were all inseparable together.

The idea of starting a band together first came in seventh grade when Luke brought up the topic. They didn't actually start the band until freshman year of high school. They decided on both Violet and Luke as lead singers, but in addition, violet playing the keyboard and Luke being the lead guitarist as well. Reggie was on bass, Alex drums, and Bobby was the rhythm guitarist.

They were able to book lots of gigs as a new band, even though some of those gigs weren't planned, but the people loved them!

It was when they were performing at book club (weird choice of venue for performance, but hey you perform wherever and whenever you can!) when Violet realized that she may have began liking Luke as more than a friend. She started noticing all the minor things that one wouldn't really pay attention to like the way his lips sometimes twitches whenever a new idea for a song comes to mind, or how his hazel eyes has some specks of blue in them.

She became more observant around him but also more conscious of her own appearance whenever she was with him.

Reggie, Alex, and Bobby all noticed the change in atmosphere whenever they had rehearsals in Violet's garage, which became their own studio for the band. They noticed how Violet was less "crazy" in a way and was more quiet and reserved around Luke. Sometimes Bobby would joke around with her and say something along the lines of "How cute" or "The chemistry is just so beautiful" whenever they sang together to see if she would have a reaction out of it, which she did. She always let out a slight blush.

Reggie had no idea what was going on at first, but he caught on eventually on what was happening. He would make subtle jokes to tease Violet, but that usually happened whenever it was just the two of them.

Alex was the one Violet would go to for advice. She never told him that it was Luke she liked but it was too obvious to all of them. He was the one where she knew she could talk to him without him making any types of jokes.

While Violet was a mess for all these new feelings she was experiencing, Luke was just clueless to all of it and shrugged his shoulders claiming that he just has chemistry with everyone.

It was when she had been (sort of) set up by Alex when Luke found out about her feelings towards him. It was just the two of them while Luke, Reggie, and Bobby were no where to be found. Alex had pulled her aside one day at lunch and told her a story about how he had a crush on a guy they both knew. Violet was confused as to why he was asking her out of all people since she has never had any relationship experiences, but since she had gone to Alex so many times before, she tried giving advice to him. Ultimately, she ended up getting carried away and revealing her crush on Luke right as Luke and Reggie found them in the cafeteria.

She felt embarrassed for days and avoided Luke at school and at their band practices. Luke eventually got fed up with her acting that way with him and just kissed her right in front of everybody at school during lunch. He told her that he felt the same way about her and that day on they were boyfriend and girlfriend.

Alex had disappeared for a while, much to the confusion of their group. They didn't know where he went since he never really told them. He was gone for around three weeks before coming back.

Violet and Luke were always together, and in Bobby's words they were a "Disgustingly cute" couple. The two of them always made sure to be extra cozy with each other when they were around Bobby to make him uncomfortable.

Right now, Violet was in the car with her parents driving to their house after landing back in California. She had been on a break from the band due to her mother's job causing her family to move to the other side of the country temporarily from the end of April to July.

She was excited. She hadn't seen the boys since she left, and that was around three months ago. They were able to talk a few times over the phone, and the last time she spoke with them she found out that their band was going to be able to play at The Orpheum. It was their biggest dream to play there together, and with Violet coming back they all were going to experience it together.

She was a bit worried about Luke and Alex. Luke was in fact a little bit upset that she had to leave them for a while. A little more than usual, and whenever they talked over the phone it was always cut short. The same thing with Alex. She talked to Reggie and Bobby more than both Alex and Luke combined.

Her thoughts were interrupted and she was brought back into reality by the tapping of the window where her head had been placed. She flinched at the sound of it but looked to see her dad there. She opened the door, grabbed her bag, and walked out.

She immediately made a beeline to her garage knowing that the boys would be there for practice already. She got up to the doors and let out a deep breath while a smile formed on her face elated to see her boys. She opened the doors and walked in to see Reggie and Bobby there already. They were both messing around with their instruments and were lazily lounging around.

"Guys!" She exclaimed as she ran to give them a hug. "I missed you all so much!"

"Violet!" The two replied back as they group hugged, happy to see their friend again.

"Finally you're back! One more second with these guys and I think I would have lost all my braincells." Bobby dramatically told her.

"Oh, no, no, no, I believe it should be the other way around, Bob." Reggie butted in. Bobby shook his head no as Violet gave the two of them another hug and laughed.

"Oh! Via, I wrote this one song and I really wanted to show you!" Reggie suddenly told her as he went to grab a piece of paper that was sitting on top of the chair closest to them.

He handed her the paper and she took it, "Home Is Where My Horse Is, huh?" She read the title out loud with a smile as she read over the lyrics next. "I love it!"

"Yes! Now I just need to get Luke to approve of it!" Reggie said happily as he did a little happy dance. "But who cares right? We all know that you're the boss here."

"Damn right" Violet replied with a side smirk on her face as she and Reggie high-fived each other. "Hey, where are Luke and Alex anyway?" She asked noticing the absence of her boyfriend and friend.

Bobby's behavior changed a bit as his face turned from a happy one to a bit serious one. It was as if he was fighting something internally. Reggie on the other hand answered, "They should be here soon." Violet just nodded her head as she sat by her piano. They all messed around together playing their instruments again when someone had entered.

"Violet!" She turned to see that Alex was now there and happily stood up to go and hug him.

"Alex! I missed you!" She told him as he hugged her back. "I did not appreciate you barely talking to me while I was gone, though." She said sarcastically.

"What? Oh... right, I um." His voice started changing pitches and his face began turning into a light shade of pink. She didn't notice, but Bobby was staring harshly straight into Alex which made him even more nervous.

"I'm kidding, lex!" She joked as she patted his shoulder. Alex laughed awkwardly along as he coughed a bit.

"Hey guys, sorry I was late. Clara and I ended up at the beach for too long."

Violet stopped laughing right away and turned to see Luke who had just entered the studio. Alex looked even more nervous, Bobby angrier, and Reggie just standing there waiting for when they'll start playing. He really wanted Luke's approval for Home Is Where My Horse Is.

Luke didn't notice the presence of the brunette girl by the Alex and went straight to where his guitar was located. "Are you guys good? You look like you've seen a ghost."

"Um, so we're playing at The Orpheum in a week. What songs are we playing? I personally think that Home is Where My Horse Is a great fit." Reggie asked to straight away. He took the moment to look at everyone in the room and noticed how everyone's expressions had changed from the happy moods they all had a few seconds ago.

"Clara?" Violet asked quietly. "Who's that?"

Luke finally noticed his girlfriend, "Princess, you're back!" and went to give her a greeting hug but Violet just held a hand in front of him.

"Luke, who's Clara?" She asked firmly as Luke awkwardly stepped back.

"She's just a person I'm staying with at the moment."

Violet was perplexed, "What? Why?"

Luke took a deep breath, "I ran away from home." He finally told her.

"What? When?"

"December..." Violet's eyes widened.

"What?! Why didn't you tell me?" She asked, genuinely hurt. "You know I would have let you stay here and my parents wouldn't have mind either."

Luke just looked away as Violet nodded her head sadly. "You don't trust me."

"What, no, Princess I do." Luke insisted.

"So why didn't you tell me? And who is Clara?" Violet pressed. Luke didn't answer and she looked over to the three other boys in the room who looked uncomfortable.

The whole room was silent. Luke struggled to explain himself for the past three months and Violet just feared the worst that happened.

"I cheated on you." Luke finally said. Violet felt her heart shatter at the revelation as tears began to brim on her eyeline. The tension was thick and could be sliced with a knife. She looked over to Reggie, Alex, and Bobby who all avoided eye contact with her.

"And you guys knew." She concluded as tears just freely fell. She wiped them away and walked towards the door.

"Prin-"

"Don't call me that." She immediately replied as she opened one of the doors. "Just... just go do your thing here and leave when you're done. All of you."

"Violet, wait!" Luke called out to run after the girl but Alex held him back. "Let me go."

"Give her time to be alone right now, Luke." Bobby told without looking at him. If looks could kill his best friend would be dead.

But if only Luke had ran after her, then maybe her inevitable death wouldn't have happened.

malexity's note!

Hello everybody!

A couple of notes- this is a Luke x OC story. This story is also a kind of Julie and The Phantoms rewrite to include my OC and her storyline. In my mind, I had Chloe Bennet as my fc for Violet, but you can imagine Violet as anyone really! Just that she's around 5'2-5'3 and a brunette.

I really hope you guys like this and please leave a review!
