tw: slight mention of blood

VIOLET WAS CONFUSED. The last thing she remembered was walking out in the city. She was out pretty late, probably until around midnight, but she had a lot of thoughts in her mind and walking helped cleared them.

She was also a crying mess so her vision was blurred and she couldn't really see well to where she was walking or if there were other people walking near her. It didn't help that she ended up walking near the one place she and Luke went to for their one year anniversary, but man the food was really good there. She should've stopped by and got something.

And that was when it hit her. The last thing she remembered was feeling a cool metal impaled deeply into her kidney. Blood was instantly seeping out of her as the knife was removed from her. Her vision had clouded and she was left to bleed out alone in the streets of Los Angeles.

So where was she now? She had no idea. She seemed to be stuck in a dark room all by herself. It's been around almost an hour now and she felt like she was going to go insane.

That was until she suddenly fell from where she was and ended back into her garage. She instantly smiled at the familiar environment and how everything was still pretty much the same. until she heard screaming. She turned around and her eyes widened in seeing three of her old friends and ex.

She then heard another scream, this time of a younger girl who looked to be around fifteen to sixteen. She covered her ears as her plus the guys screamed at each other. She then ran out of the garage as the three boys were hugging each other, frightened.

"How are we here?" asked Luke again as they all slowly pulled away from each other.

"You're dead?" Violet was shocked and whispered but also asked as she made her presence known to them since it was loud enough for them to hear. Alex started to tear up immediately and went to hug the shorter girl.

"Violet, y-you're here!" He cried into her shoulder. Violet awkwardly patted his back letting him cry his emotions out. Reggie and Luke too looked like they were going to cry but didn't show it. Luke looked guilty as well thinking that her death was his fault.

"Um, yes i am." She just said. She really didn't know what to say because all she knew was that she was dead and apparently they are too.

"We're so sorry. I'm so sorry for everything. When we heard from your parents about your death, I couldn't believe that it was real. I didn't think that I would actually lose you." Alex continued to cry as Violet let a tear slip.

"How...?" She asked once Alex finally let go of her and wiped his tears away.

"Bad hot dogs." Reggie somberly answered as Violet stifled a laugh. Instead, she turned to Luke who was staying quiet the whole time.

"How was playing at The Orpheum?" She then asked but Luke just shook his head.

"Like he said. Bad hot dogs."

Violet made an "oh" face. So none of them got to play out their dream. She was saddened at that fact. The girl soon came back, this time holding out a cross in her hand as she slowly walked into the room. The four of them quickly poofed to a more darker area of the room to see what she was going to do.

"Are you still here? Whatever you are" She asked cautiously. She stopped by the piano and let her hands down. "I know I saw something. I'm not crazy."

Luke poofed the four of them now behind her, "Well, we're all a little crazy." The girl turned around quickly, held the cross back out, and screamed again.

"Oh my! Please stop screaming!" Alex instantly called out as they backed away a bit and Violet covered her ears.

"Who are you, and what are you doing in my mom's studio?" She demanded.

"Your mom's studio? Honey, this is my garage." Violet answered as she crossed her arms and frowned.

"Yeah, trust me. The grand piano is new." Luke said as he walked up to it and sat on top of it, but moved as the girl held the cross towards him. "And my couch!" He grinned as he went to jump and lay on top of it.

"Technically it's my couch." Violet pointed out to him.

"Well I did help you pick it out." Luke responded back. He then looked around to where his guitar would have been at and frowned, "But that's definitely not my six-string."

"Can you just give us a second?" Violet asked but she didn't wait for an answer and the four of them huddled in together.

"Guys, what is going on? How did she get her stuff in here so fast?" Luke questioned to the three of them.

"Maybe, maybe she's a witch." Reggie suggested as he looked up to the ceiling. "There's chairs floating on the ceiling."

"Okay there are no such thing as witches." Alex said right after but Reggie just gave a troubled look.

"You sure? Cause I used to think that there were no such thing as ghosts!"

"That's fair..."

"You think fairies are real?" Violet then asked as she thought about it for a second. She's always loved fairies and the magic of them in fairytales.

Luke looked at Alex and violet then faced back at Reggie, "Okay, so we're going with witch?"

"No, we are not going with witches. We will simply go with fairies, okay." Violet interjected as Luke rolled his eyes.

"No! we are not going with witches and we are not going with fairies! Okay, look, she's just scared." Alex butted in. "Okay? So let someone with a softer touch handle this."

Luke and Reggie looked at Violet all of a sudden. Violet shook her head, "No. I'm not going to do it."

"What, no. I was talking about me. Okay watch me." Alex said as he walked over to the frightened girl. "Why are you in our studio?" He asked in the non-softest way possible.

"Soft touch, indeed." violet muttered as she watched the interaction.

"Well, you didn't want to be the one to talk to her." Luke spoke to her since he heard her. Violet just scowled at him. The living girl looked at Alex and quickly pushed the cross through him.

"Oh my gosh.. how did you do that?!" She asked exasperatedly.

"Well clearly you're not understanding." Alex said as he faced the three again for a moment. "Clearly she doesn't get it. Okay, look. We're ghosts, all right? We're just four ghosts and we're really happy to be home, so thank you for the flowers. They really brighten up the room."

"We're actually in a band called Sunset Curve." Luke added right after.

"Tell your friends" reggie followed with a bright smile.

Luke continued, "Last night was supposed to be a really big night for us. It was going to change our lives."

Violet smiled sadly at the three again. But last night? How is that possible because she was sure that she died last night, and that was a week before their performance.

"I'm, uh, pretty sure it did." Alex pointed out to him.

"This is freaking me out." The girl breathed sharply as she went to grab something in her pocket. She then held the cross back out at them again.

"What is that? What are you doing?" Violet asked as she watched her.

"It's my phone." She answered but then paused. "Nope, stop talking to them! They're not real. There's no such thing as cute ghosts."

"Oh, you think we're cute?" Reggie asked, kind of amused with a slight smirk. Violet just shook her head and the girl just looked at him before typing something back on her phone.

"Who you calling?" Alex then asked as he leaned forward to see if he could catch a glimpse.

"I'm googling Sunset Swerve."

"Sunset Curve!" The four of them said together in almost an offended way. She just exhaled as she turned her head back to read the article she found on them.

"Woah. there is a Sunset Curve." She started as Reggie and Alex both smiled to themselves softly as Luke and Violet waited to see what else she was going to say. "And you did die. But not last night. Twenty-five years ago."

Violet's eyes slightly widened again as Reggie furrowed his brows, "What? No, no, no. Th-th-that's impossible. After we floated out of the ambulance, all we did was go to that weird dark room where alex cried."

"Well..." Alex began with a high pitched tone, "I think we were all pretty upset, okay?"

"Wait, Prin- violet." Violet's heart stopped for a moment at the familiar nickname he almost said. "What was it like for you?"

"Same thing, except I just woke up into a dark room instead of float, but even that was just for like an hour and then I just showed up here."

"Look I'm just telling you what my phone says." The girl sighed. "See? You all died in nineteen ninety-five when you were seventeen. It's now twenty-twenty." She said as she held the phone up for them to see.

"So this is the future?" Reggie asked amazed.

"Wait, so it has been twenty-five years? I have been crying for twenty-five years, how is that possible?!" Said Alex who was freaking out.

"Well you're a very emotional person!"

"I am not!" Alex retorted back, facing Reggie as his voice started to pitch higher again. Violet just patted his back in reassurance.

"Thought you were afraid to come out here! Talking to your new ghost friend?" A new voice was heard and the four of them turned to see a younger boy, presumably the girl's younger brother. "How does he look? Is he hideous?"

"They are. Not me because I am fabulous!" Violet responded as she flipped her hair making sure it hit Luke in the face. Luke glared at her as Reggie and Alex laughed.

"He can see you." Alex joked to Reggie.

"No, he can't." The girl then said to Alex, confusing the younger boy making him look to see who she was talking to. "What?"

"Uh.. what do you want?"

"A normal sister, for starters. Stop being weird and come eat." He told her as he turned and walked out.

"He couldn't see you." She stated.

"Yeah, I mean that is how ghosts work, does it not?" Violet asked. The girl instead just shook her head once more and began to walk out.

She turned around before leaving completely, "Look, I'm very sorry for what happened to you all, but this isn't your studio anymore. you have to leave."

"But wait." Luke stopped her. "We didn't get your name."

"It's Julie."

"Cool." He chuckled before approaching her but stopped once she held the cross out again. "I'm Luke, by the way, and this is-"

"Reggie. I'm Reggie, hey."

"And-"

"Alex. how's it going?"

Julie faced the cross towards Violet waiting for her to introduce herself. "Violet." She said simply.

"Ba-da" Luke then said softly with a bit of jazz hands.

"Okay?" Julie said and with that she left.

They watched her leave the room as Reggie turned and faced them. "Julie seems nice!" He smiled.

"Did you miss the part where she kicked us out, or...?" Alex groaned as he faced Reggie. Reggie didn't say anything except an oh. "Yeah, okay" He then said as the four of them all walked to different corners of the room.

Violet walked over to the piano and sat on the bench taking in all the information she learned the past minutes. She looked over to the flowers and plants that were there now by the window in place of where her cabinets of random miscellaneous items, including some of her written songs, were. She then turned to see what the others were doing and noticed them all in a huddle.

"What are you guys doing?" She questioned suspiciously with a raised brow. "I hope you guys know that I'm still upset with you all, especially you." She stated as she nodded upwards to Luke.

"We were going to go check the inside of the house. Wanna come?" Luke told her. Violet just shook her head no.

"Guys. This is not our place anymore so we can't just freely roam around. Julie did ask us to leave."

"But do you want to leave?" Alex asked the girl.

"Well no, but this is just the garage. I just think it would be more of an invasion of privacy if we go into the house." She reasoned out with them.

"But we're dead and they can't see us but Julie!" Reggie complained since he really wanted to go. "Also, don't you want to see what they changed in your house?"

"No." She finally stated as she turned to face the keys of the piano.

"Okay, your loss then." Luke replied as the three of them began to walk out the door. Violet, though, was a bit curious, but she knew it would be wrong. Then again, her curiosity was beginning to eat her up and she got back up on her feet. She also didn't want to be alone. She apparently spent twenty-five years in solitude, she didn't want to spend more.

"Okay fine! I'll come!" She called out as she ran to catch up with them. Alex, Luke, and Violet all walked through the front door casually without trying to make a sound, but Reggie came in and almost tripped on himself. The three faced him and gave a look to him. The three boys grinned once they saw Julie and started to walk towards her as Violet just stayed put.

"Gah!" Julie yelled once she saw them, and Alex held his arms out to stop them from moving forward.

"Idiots." Violet murmured under her own breath.

Julie's family looked at her confused as she just chuckled awkwardly, "That's me. Ripping off the band-aid, aah!" She saved herself as her brother laughed at her.

"There's my brave girl!"

"Hey Julie, I really like what you guys did with the place." Luke complimented to her. Violet shook her head once more and decided to leave the place not wanting to interfere with anything. As she was outside, she heard the footsteps of the guys following her back to the garage.

"Hey, do you guys think we can still play our instruments?" Luke asked once they got inside and he saw his electric guitar's case.

"Worth a shot. It's still here." Reggie said grabbing his bass and Alex making his way to the drums. "Wow. It's like I can feel it and I haven't died.

"You going to play? You can just play on the piano there instead of your keyboard." Luke invited Violet.

"Erm." She thought for a moment before she saw Bobby's guitar. "You know what, kind of always wanted to be a guitar player." She said as she went to grab bobby's guitar. "What song?"

"I don't know. Let's just start with something random." Luke answered as they looked over to Alex who nodded and began drumming a random tune. Soon after, Luke began playing and Reggie added in some bass. Violet watched before adding herself an alternate guitar tune with the chords that Luke had taught her one time that she thought fitted in with the music.

They didn't really pay attention to how loud they were playing. I mean like, who would even hear them?

That was until Julie came back in trying to get their attention, looking annoyed as ever. Once Luke finished with his rift and Alex playing the drums, she crossed her arm. "The whole neighborhood could hear you. I thought I told you to leave."

Violet was now interested as Luke asked, "Wait. People can hear us play?"

"Yes! And so did my dad and my brother!" She whispered angrily to them.

"W-w-wait, so only you can see us, but everyone can hear us?" Alex asked as he stood up. "I mean, what kind of ghosts are we?"

"I'd say pretty iconic ones for sure." Violet responded to him as she smiled to Reggie.

"Who cares man! People can hear us play!" Luke said excitingly as he fist bumped Reggie and Alex with an awkward thumbs up to Violet right after.

"We might be dead, but our music isn't."

"Dad!" Julie suddenly said as she noticed her father entering in. The four ghosts turned to see what was going to happen.

"Hey, just wanted to see if you were okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. Just had to turn off the cd player." She replied pointing to the player in the corner.

Her dad looked around at the drums, bass, and guitars that were now there. "Wait, is this the junk that was up there in the loft?"

"Junk?!" Luke and Violet both asked in offense. They all watched as Julie's dad walked to bang the drums a bit.

"Some of this stuff's in pretty good shape." He stated as he played around with the symbols next. "Hey, maybe we can make a couple bucks."

It was Alex's turn to be offended as he watched her father mess around with his drums. "What? yo, stop touching my drums!" He demanded as if he could hear him. "Tell him to stop touching my drums!" He faced Julie as Luke did the same. She just shrugged.

"I liked that song you had on." Said by Julie's father once he finished with the drums and walked around to stand in front of them.

"Sweet! We're Sunset Curve!"

"Tell your friends" Luke and Reggie said once again as they approached the man.

"It's just an old cd I found." Julie simply told her dad.

Violet crossed her arms, "Did she just say old? I know that she did not just call our music old."

"Well it's nice that you're listening to music again." Her dad sincerely said. "Out here you can play whatever you want, whenever you want."

Reggie and Luke both flinched slightly at her dad's arms suddenly going through them. "Oh! That's nice" Reggie said as he faced Alex and smiled. Luke doing the same but smiling in Violet's direction, then Julie's.

Violet ignored the butterflies that were beginning to fly in her stomach. Every time Luke smiled, she couldn't help but feel like a silly little school girl with her first crush. Oh yeah. He was her first crush.

Instead she just reminded herself of the revelation of him cheating on her and ignored those feelings. She simply just gave a small smile back.

"Stay out of this." Julie hissed at them causing all four of them to stop smiling and stand there.

"I-I'm sorry, honey, I didn't..."

"Oh no, no, no. Not you!" Julie began as she temporarily forgot that she was talking to ghosts. "I mean... uh.. you know, give me a minute." She said as she took her father's arm and brought him towards the door.

"Hey, hey, hey. We're going to figure out this music program thing." He told her as he placed his arms on her shoulders.

Julie nodded and smiled, "Thanks, dad."

Reggie waved goodbye as he left the room as Julie went to close the door.

"Kay, I'm sitting because I don't feel like standing when she yells at us again." Violet announced as she walked over to the couch and sat.

"He likes our song" Luke happily said once Julie shutted the door.

"Oh yeah. He doesn't count. He's a dad." Alex replied as if that was a big problem.

"Why can't you guys just be normal ghosts?" Julie angrily said as Alex turned so he was not facing her. "Hang out at an old mansion. I heard Pasadena's nice!" She huffed as she practically spat that out to them, shut the door and left.

"I think she's warming up to us." Alex spoke as he turned back around and faced them.

"Yeah, I've always wanted to go to Pasadena!" Reggie agreed not thinking about the tone in Julie's voice as she spoke with them.

Luke shook his head and poofed out of the room leaving Reggie, Alex, and Violet.

"Where'd he go?" She asked once he left. The two just shrugged their shoulders. Violet sighed as she got up to walk back to the piano in the room. She placed her fingers lightly on top of the keys as she played a soft tune.

"Hey, Via?" She heard the familiar nickname.

"Hm?"

"Can we talk?" Reggie asked as they walked over to her.

She sighed but just continued to play, "Okay. Talk."

"No, we mean like, about what happened." Alex then said.

"And I said okay, so talk."

Alex and Reggie looked at each other and then sat down each on one side of Violet.

"We really didn't want to hide it from you." Reggie began, "In fairness, we didn't really know until Luke actually said it. We had our suspicions on it a couple weeks before, but we never said anything because we thought he was just missing you and was distracting himself."

"So he got too comfortable with another girl because he missed me?" She asked with a raised eyebrow. literally what boyfriend does that.

Alex glared at Reggie for already messing up, "No. What I mean is just that we thought he was just really good friends with her and that they normally flirt in a friendly, jokingly way. You know in a way like me." He fixed himself as he looked up as he was remembering something. "Marie was a really nice girl."

Reggie looked back down as Violet sighed. "We're really sorry, V, and we didn't mean to hurt you. Luke had no idea what he was doing."

Violet looked at the two of them. She was kind of confused on why Reggie did most of the talking and Alex barely saying a word, but she figured that it was mostly because he was still getting used to everything that has happened.

"I guess... I guess I forgive you guys. I understand what you mean." Violet told them as smiles appeared slowly on their faces. "But that doesn't mean I'm going to talk to Luke about it just yet, and I swear Alex if you try and set me up again so that I would have to talk to him I will somehow find a way to kill you again." She threatened as Reggie laughed and Alex put up his hands in defense.

"Hey, did you write that?" Reggie suddenly asked as he looked at a paper that was on the piano stand. Violet shook her head no, grabbed the paper, and read the piano notes and lyrics on it.

"Wow. It's beautiful." She stated as she turned to the back of it. "It's from Julie's mom." She then said as she placed the paper back.

"Should we check up on Luke?" Alex asked.

"You guys can." Violet replied as she began to softly play the piano again. Reggie and Alex didn't push her to come with them and just nodded as Reggie poofed away first. Alex stayed behind for a second to watch as Violet played the piano before leaving with a small frown and heavy heart.
