VIOLET POOFED BACK TO THE GARAGE AND SAT DOWN ON THE COUCH. She screamed out loud in frustration taking advantage of the fact that no one was there/couldn't hear her.

"You done?" She removed her hands from her face to see Luke now standing there and glared at him.

"What do you want? Are you going to steal another one of my songs and give it out to people?"

"Violet-"

"You know how special that song was to me, Luke. You know how I didn't want other people hearing it except for you, but even then I wasn't planning on showing you either."

"Violet, can I just explain?"

Her watery eyes looked over at him and her glare lessened. She instead just nodded with a sigh. "Fine."

"Violet, you gave the song to me." Luke started off. Violet was about to say something again but he spoke again. "I know how I shouldn't have just freely given the song to Julie, but out of all the songs we have, I thought that this one would've suited her best. I know you didn't want people knowing about it, but no one knows about it."

When Violet didn't say anything Luke spoke again, "Come on, you have to admit that Julie did kill it out there."

"And she did." She replied letting out a shaky breath as tears fell again. Luke did not hesitate to hug and comfort the crying girl as he let her cry into his shoulder, placing a hand by the back of her head and around her waist. "I'm sorry, it's just that I really miss my parents and I have no idea where they are. The song just reminded me of them."

"Shh, it's alright."

DECEMBER NINETEEN NINETY-FOUR

"Princess? You in there?"

Violet froze for a moment when she heard the sound of her boyfriend's voice. She quickly got up from her bed, grabbing the notebook and pen in her hand, and ran to the bathroom in her room. She locked herself in there and quickly turned on the sink so it sounded like she was doing something in there.

She had been writing a song in her notebook. It was different from the songs she'd normally have written for the band. Instead, it was a song she intended to keep for herself.

It wasn't any of those silly love songs or one of those "I want" songs, but more of a crying for help type of song. She felt lost in her life at the moment and she had nothing to do except write those down on a piece of paper.

"Princess? Your parents say that you're in here, so I'm coming in right now." She heard Luke again from the outside of her bedroom door. She then heard the door open right after.

"Um, I'm here! Just in the bathroom." She called out but her voice cracked a bit. She looked over to the mirror and saw that her eyes were red a bit and her face flushed. She quickly started splashing cold water onto her face hoping that it would make the red go away.

"Alright, I'll just be waiting here."

Violet hurried and continued splashing water on her face. She looked to the mirror and was satisfied enough with how she looked as the red in her face was mostly gone and just hoped that Luke wouldn't notice it at all. She then unlocked her bathroom door and walked out with a smile to see Luke just laying on her bed.

"Hey, babe." She greeted as she sat down by the edge of her bed. Luke grinned and pulled her to be closer to him and hugged her. She laughed as she was brought to him and hugged him back.

"You're being more cuddly than usual, not that I'm complaining." Violet told him since they were now hugging each other for more than five minutes. She also looked out her window and noticed that it was already night time. "Is something up?"

"Nope." Luke answered, popping the p. Violet raised her brow as she looked at him. "Just missed my girl extra today." He replied then kissing her cheek after.

"Awe, I missed my boy too." She replied back. Luke frowned a bit as he pulled away and looked at her face.

"Were you crying?"

"What? No. Why would you think that?" She said keeping her voice at a neutral tone.

"I'm not dumb. The upper part of your shirt is wet and your mascara is smudged. There's some on your cheek." He told her as he wiped the smudged mascara off with his thumb. "Also, your cheek is weirdly cold."

Violet was surprised he noticed. "Wow, I didn't think you would notice all that. Um, I guess I was crying because I hit my ankle on my dresser and it just hurts really bad." She lied to him. Luke looked at her face for a while which made her hope that he bought the lie.

"Oh, well why didn't you say so?" Luke asked as he sat up. "Do you want me to massage your ankle to help ease the pain?"

Violet shook her head no but smiled, "No, it's okay. Just more cuddles, please."

Luke just smiled and held her in his arms. The two of them stayed that way for a while and talked with each other about the band and upcoming gigs they had.

"Wait, so you're telling me that Crooked Teeth was about Reggie and Reggie thinks that it's about Alex?" Violet laughed. Luke was telling her about the most recent song that he's written, Crooked Teeth.

"Yep. I feel bad but the song just came to mind and I had to write it all down." Luke shrugged as Violet laughed again. "Hey, I'm going to go use the bathroom real quick."

Violet nodded her head as Luke got up and went to the bathroom in her room. She decided to get up too and go downstairs to the kitchen to get a glass of water to quench her thirst. She got another glass for Luke and brought it upstairs in case he wanted a drink too.

"Princess! Did you write this?" She walked in to see Luke on her bed, but with the notebook that she had left in the bathroom. She widened her eyes, completely forgetting about how she left it in there open wide to the page she was writing on.

She quickly placed the glasses of water on her nightstand and tried to grab the book from Luke, but he just moved away so he could read it more.

"Wait, give it back!" She reached out for it again, but Luke moved again.

"No, no, no I want to read it." He replied in a teasing voice.

Violet didn't stop trying to take it back, but when Luke wouldn't stop she just yelled, "Luke! Give it! Please!"

Luke finally looked up as he was bewildered at Violet suddenly yelling at him. He took a good look at her noticing how she looked like she was about to freak out?

He looked down at the lyrics and the book again then back at her. "Wait, Princess-" He closed her book and she quickly grabbed it from him and made her way to her closet, shoving the notebook in there, but safely enough so that it wouldn't get ripped or anything.

Frustrated, she ran her hand through her hair as she walked and got her glass of water taking in a big gulp of it. She paced around her room a couple of times making Luke more confused than ever.

"Is everything alright?" He asked slowly. Violet stopped pacing and went to sit back down. "I don't think you should be walking so much if your ankle hurts."

Violet stared blankly at him before shaking her head. "Oh." Luke said once he realized that she was lying earlier and opened his arms again to let her hug him if she wanted to, which she did. "What's wrong?"

Violet didn't say anything and Luke just continued to talk, "If you were worried about me judging your song, it's a really good one! You're a great writer, V!"

He got no response except for the fact that he felt his shirt getting a bit wet.

"I found out that dad has cancer. I don't know why they never told me but now they're saying that he possibly could die within the two years." Violet cried as Luke was shocked by the news. "I don't know what's going to happen, and i'm just scared. I don't like death. It's scary."

"It's life, Princess. We may not like it, but we can't change the way things are bound to happen. All we can do it just stay positive through it." Luke said softly. He didn't really know what else to say after but just continued on comforting the crying girl.

Violet woke up the next day with the feeling of the sunshine right at her face. She was still in Luke's arms and gently got up so she didn't wake him.

She checked the time and saw that it was only seven thirty-five. Both of her parents already left for work so it was just the two of them there.

She went back to her closet and pulled out her book. She then walked over back to her bed to sit as she opened it and flipped through the random pages until she got to the page where she last wrote in.

It was an unfinished song, having only written two verses. She didn't know what else to add to finish it and it was bothering her now.

"G'morning." She heard Luke's morning voice say. It was a bit raspy as he then moved around to stretch his body a bit.

"Morning." She responded back not tearing her eyes away from her book. "Are you hungry? My mom made pancakes. I can still smell them from here."

"Nah. Not right now." Luke answered as he shook his head and rubbed his eyes. "What are you doing?" He asked right after.

"Um, just trying to finish this song up." Violet exhaled as she wrote a line in that she thought would fit well enough, but quickly crossed it out after.

"Need some help?" Luke offered. Violet shook her head no, but paused for a moment.

"I guess some help would be nice." She responded. Luke nodded his head and made his way to sit next to her on the bed.

"Alright, we're done! Want to try and sing it out?" Luke exclaimed as he dropped the pen in his hand. They've been working on the song since seven and now it was eleven a.m.

Violet nodded her head as she stood up, "Should we go to the garage and try to play it with our instruments?"

"If you want to." Luke replied getting up as well to stretch again from sitting for a long time. "We can just sing it acapella for now."

Violet nodded her head, "I'm okay with that."

"Okay." Luke said as he picked up the paper in his hands. "Oh! Also for the instrumental part, we can have you come in first with the keyboard and then the guys and I can come in during the chorus? What do you think?"

The long-haired brunette looked at the paper in Luke's hands before looking back at him. "Actually, I was thinking about just keeping this between us. I don't really want the other's knowing about it. At least, not right now." She told look as she gave him a nervous tight-lipped smile.

He smiled right back at her, "Alright. Our little secret then."

The nervousness in Violet's smile faded and was replaced of one with happiness as she looked right back at the paper titled, "Bright."
