IT WAS THE BEGINNING OF A FRESH NEW WEEK. Violet walked through the doors from the studio after she had came back from just walking around her old neighborhood for a little bit. She had left as the sun was rising and now the sun was high and bright up in the sky.
"Well, well, well look who we have here." She heard as she entered in the room. She rolled her eyes at Luke, who was playing his guitar working on a melody, as she sat down on the couch. "It's been ages since we last saw you."
"I was here last night, but you and Julie seemed to be oh so busy together writing songs the whole weekend, so I guess you didn't notice." Violet replied back sarcastically with a frown. She shook her head and made sure to keep a neutral face on. "Where's Reggie and Alex?"
"No clue."
"Okay." Violet replied as she got back up again. "Well bye."
Luke stopped playing on his guitar and looked up at Violet, "What? You just got here. Where are you going now?"
"None of your business."
"Come on, V. You know i'm a very curious person." Luke whined like a child making Violet sigh.
"I'm going out to see Riven, alright?" Violet answered. Luke looked at her as both of his brows raised.
"Riven? Oh your ghost friend!" Luke stated as Violet just nodded her head. "Well, can I come and meet this ghosty friend of yours?" He asked as he gave her puppy dog eyes. Violet screamed inside since he knew that when he did that it always worked on her when they were dating, and to be honest, it still works on her now.
"Nope. Bye." She replied simply before poofing out of the garage. Luke crossed his arms, making his guitar almost fall to the ground.
Violet lost her balance for a bit as she appeared at the park. She was at a more quiet area where not a lot of people were by. Most of the people there were just taking walks on the path that was paved there and since it was a late Monday morning, not many kids were there because of school.
"Hey you!" She looked to her right and saw Riven approaching her with a big smile on his face and with his guitar swung over his shoulder. Violet waved at him but widened her eyes a bit when she realized she forgot Bobby's guitar. Well, hers now that she was going to be using it.
She held up a finger indicating that she'll be right back and quickly poofed back to the garage. Luke was still there playing that same melody.
"Well that was quick." He commented as he watched Violet grabbed the guitar that was on its stand. She didn't respond to his comment and just quickly poofed out of there and returned to the park.
"Alright, back." She said as she poofed right in front of Riven with the guitar in her hand.
"Cool, so what stuff do you know how to play already?" Riven asked her as he sat down on the ground, Violet doing the same.
"Oh you know, just the easy chords." She replied as she played a few chords to show Riven. He nodded as he watched her and positioned his guitar getting ready to play something.
"Okay, so how about we start with a few plucking patterns before I teach you something new?" Violet nodded her head and followed as Riven showed her how to position her fingers and which strings to pluck. The two of them sat there together as Violet was learning. She struggled a little bit since her fingers were still soft and it hurt to press down on the strings.
"So, how did you even learn how to play?" She asked as she placed her guitar down for a moment to let her fingers rest for a moment. She looked down and saw how they were red and had a mark from pressing on the strings.
"Before I died, I always wanted to play the guitar. I mean, I had one but I was always too busy with school and other things to actually play and practice on it." He answered as he chuckled slightly and looked at his guitar. "After I died, I guess my boss figured out that I really wanted to play and got me lessons from this other ghost who used to work at the club."
"Used to? Where is he now?"
Riven shrugged, "Gone. He and my boss had a fight and then he never came back. That was back in two-thousand and two, though."
"Yikes. Maybe he's watching over his family or something?" Violet suggested. Riven shook his head no.
"No, he's gone gone." He said once again, this time in a more serious tone exaggerating the gone. Violet still thought that he was talking about him being in some other country and just shrugged her own shoulders next.
Riven looked down at the broken watch in his arm as if it was still working and stood up. "Well, I got to go. Duty calls."
"Really? We only did one thing." Violet told him. Riven looked like he was troubled on something. He was smiling one second and all grim looking the next, which worried Violet a bit.
"Just practice that pattern for now so it can help build up some callus on your fingers. Got to go, bye." And with that he was gone. Violet opened her mouth to say something but closed it back up once he was gone. She sighed as she decided to grab the guitar and head back. It was probably around two or three in the afternoon. They were there for a while and there were much more people at the park now.
She poofed back into the studio to see that Reggie and Julie were now there with Alex. Reggie looked pretty stoked about something and she was curious on what that could be.
"Hey, what's going on?" She asked as she walked over to put the guitar she held back to its stand.
Reggie's face lit up again as if it wasn't already and motioned for her to come stand by them, "Look! We're playing at a dance!" He informed her happily as he pointed to the paper.
"A school dance?" Violet asked as she grabbed the paper and scrunched her nose. She wasn't a huge fan on dances, having some not so great experiences back when she was alive. "Oh my gosh."
"Well apparently, that's how we get a following nowadays." Luke told her next with a mediocre expression as Julie nodded her head.
"Come on, it'll be fun guys!" Julie said eagerly, trying to get them to be at least a bit more enthusiastic about it.
Violet placed the paper down on the piano. "Sorry, Julie. Dances are just not my thing."
"It's true. One dance at our school, she went with this guy and apparently he had brought this other girl-" Reggie was saying until Violet stomped on his foot. "Ow! What was that for?!"
"Dude, not cool." Luke told Reggie, who was holding onto his left foot.
"What happened?" Violet asked pretending like she did nothing.
"I'll tell you what happened, why did you step on my foot?!" Luke shook his head and Violet ignored him while Julie chuckled and continued watering the plants.
"You know what, yeah let's do this! Let's rock those kids faces off and then play the clubs." Luke finally agreed.
"Pretty sure Julie wouldn't be able to get in." Violet motioned at the teenage girl who was standing before them.
"Technically we wouldn't be able to get in. We are still seventeen." Luke then replied as if he was making a point.
"We're dead."
Julie shook her head and butted into the conversation, "Well, then we'll record a single that gets a billion streams?"
Reggie and Violet both looked confused as Luke spoke, "I don't know what that is but hopefully it lands us a manager and a tour."
"And then we'll release a bunch of hit albums!"
"Put out a country album that does surprisingly well!" Reggie added on making a grin form on Violet's face. "I shred on the banjo." He said right after the look on Julie's face.
"Home Is Where My Horse Is, baby!" She exclaimed as she high-fived him while Julie and Luke both looked at them like they were growing two heads.
"Then i'll learn how to fiddle." Julie stated as she fist bumped Reggie.
"And before you know it, we're being inducted to the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame!" Luke finished off passionately.
Reggie quickly interjected, "But one of us isn't there because we had a blowout in twenty thirty-two. My money's on Alex. He's just so sensitive."
"Hey! Don't say that. There's nothing wrong with being sensitive." Violet told Reggie as she shook her head in disagreement. Julie just chuckled.
"So what are we waiting for? Let's get rehearsing!" Luke announced as he turned to grab his guitar.
"Uh, where's Alex?"
Alex and Reggie shrugged while Violet answered, "Probably out with a new ghost friend of ours, Willie. He's super nice." Julie nodded her head as she went to set up the keyboard. Reggie walked on over to grab his bass and Violet went to go get her guitar on the stand.
"So, what will we be playing at this school dance?" Violet asked as she put the guitar strap over her shoulder and quickly did the pattern that Riven had taught her. Her fingers still were hurting but hey, more practice would help get her fingers used to it.
"Don't know yet but we could practice this one song." Julie replied as she handed out the music sheet for a song.
Violet read it over and placed it in the chair by her so that she could read the notes while playing. "Ah, one of the songs you and Luke wrote over the weekend, I see." She said in a sort of teasing but also slightly mocking voice. She wiggled her brows at Luke who just looked at her weirdly. She continued on with the plucking pattern making sure that she got each one right.
"That's a nice thing you got there." Luke complimented having heard her. "Where'd you learn it from?"
"Riven taught me."
"Oh?"
"Yep. He plays guitar." She replied as she continued on. Luke looked at her and then at her playing and just nodded slowly.
"Alright, let's start?" Reggie asked as they all just nodded their heads. Luckily for Violet, the guitar chords were ones that she already knew so she wouldn't be struggling much.
Julie, Reggie, Luke, and Violet were nearing towards the end of the song. They only worked on the music rather than the vocals so that everyone knew what they were playing.
"Alright, one more time." Luke told them all as they played the last few measures again.
Once they were finished with the song, Violet let go of her guitar right away, luckily it just hanging there because of the strap. "Ugh, thank God. I swear, my fingers are just going to fall off any second. I hate the guitar with a passion right now." She complained as she sat down on the closest seat to her.
"Why? You played guitar in the band before right? Thought you loved it." Julie asked as she looked at her.
"Um, I guess you could say that i'm just not used to it anymore." She lied. She then decided that she would be just done practicing for the day even if the others wanted to continue. They can keep practicing on their own while she gets a nice nap.
"Oh hey, Alex!" The two girls heard Reggie greet. They looked to see that Alex was finally there with them.
"Where have you been, man. We need to start practicing." Luke told him and Violet groaned loudly.
"So was the last hour of us playing that song not practicing?" Luke rolled his eyes at her, but in a friendly manner. and responded, "You know what I meant."
Alex didn't know about the dance and was confused, "For what?" He turned to face Julie for a response, but before Julie could answer, the doors opened.
"Dance news!" Flynn's voice came as she entered in the room. "I don't have a date, but I don't care because i'm so psyched to see you guys perform!"
Alex was not thrilled, "Oh man, we're playing a dance?"
"My exact reaction." Violet commented as she sat up a bit.
Luke sat down on the chair by the amp, "Of course, dude. That's how we get a following nowadays."
"Yeah, Alex. Get with the program." Julie chuckled as she added on while looking at Luke who just smiled back at her. Violet didn't know why but that interaction made her feel a bit uneasy inside.
"What?! The guys are here?" Flynn asked as she then waved to the space where none of them were at. "Hey, guys!"
Violet chuckled as Julie spoke, "Other way, sweetie." Flynn did that and began waving again. Alex and Reggie waved back since she was facing their direction even though she couldn't see them.
Julie invited Flynn to stay a bit and watch them rehearse when Carlos suddenly entered inside the garage. He went through part of Alex, which made Alex feel a slight chill as he looked down.
She started laughing quietly when he came to talk about ghosts because of some orbs that appeared in the pictures from when Ray took them the previous week.
She wasn't really paying attention since the conversation didn't really include her in it but what caught her attention was when the younger Molina suddenly pulled out salt and announced that salt would burn out the souls of ghosts so they wouldn't come back.
The four ghosts all shared a look of worry as Carlos continued to talk about it. That was until he suddenly struck the salt in Reggie's direction, who had brought his feet and guitar up more.
"Oh hell no." Violet muttered as she got up from her spot and backed up a bit. Carlos threw some salt towards Luke's direction next which he moved back. She noticed how Carlos turned and faced Alex's direction, but Alex didn't move and was staring at the salt.
"Alex, move!" She yelled as she ran to push him away from the salt. Instead, she got hit by the salt.
"Violet! No!" Alex cried as he caught Violet in his arms. Reggie and Luke looked over to them in worry.
"Oh my god, I feel..." Violet trailed off as she felt her eyes close. She didn't think that she would be gone so early as a ghost already and waited for her soul to slowly disappear, accepting it. Instead she felt nothing and just got back up. "I feel fine."
Alex looked embarrassed but Violet just patted his shoulder, "We've had a lot of scary moments, Alex. No one will ever understand the struggles we went through." She told him seriously as she remembered the time where they thought they were caught in Hollywood.
Julie cleared her throat and faced Flynn's direction so that she could get Carlos out of the garage. "Oh, Carlos! You know who's hungry? Me. Um, salt me a path to the kitchen!"
Carlos agreed and took the picture he brought with him back as he and Flynn exited. Alex cleared his throat as he made his way towards the drums and Violet just went back to sitting where she previously was at.
"Shall we try this again?" Julie asked once Flynn and her brother were gone.
"Yes. please. But remind us later, there's some Sunset Curve songs that we wanna show you." Luke told her as he got back up.
Julie was interested, "Ooh, show me now!"
"Yeah, okay." Luke went over to the opened guitar case where his notebook was placed in and grabbed it. He then stared at it for a moment reading what the paper that was sticking out said. "Home Is Where My Horse Is? Reggie, stop putting your country songs in my journal."
"Hey! No Home Is Where My Horse Is slander here!" Violet called out at Luke as Reggie approached him.
"That was a gift."
"Thanks, buddy."
"Yeah, you should maybe circle back..." Reggie told him but Luke just walked away to give Julie his notebook to read the songs in there. Reggie sighed and walked back over to where was at before.
Violet smiled at him, "Don't worry, Reg. We'll get to play it somewhere and somehow."
"This is why you're the best, V." Reggie whispered to her. Violet chuckled as she fist pumped him. "At least someone appreciates my work." Reggie then announced to the group as Violet nodded her head in satisfaction.
"Hm, Cover Girl?" Julie read out loud the first page she landed on and quickly skimmed through the lyrics. "Yeah you're so pretty that it hurts. It's what's underneath your skin the beauty that shines within."
Violet's eyes widened and she almost choked on her spit once she heard Julie read the familiar lyrics to her. Luke had written that for her back in junior year.
"Um, turn the page please." Luke moved to take his book back but Julie just kept the book in her hands.
"You were just a dream that I once knew. I never thought i would be right for you. I just can't compare you with anything in this world-"
Luke immediately cut her off once again, "Turn the page again!"
"Fine, fine." Julie and Reggie both smirked as Alex smiled softly and Violet was embarrassed and confused. "Who's Emily? She must be a really lucky girl assuming the other two songs were about her too."
"Now that one was definitely not dog-eared!" Julie this time got up from sitting so she could read the lyrics. Violet frowned when she realized that it was probably Emily as in Luke's mom.
"Julie, I don't think you should-" She stated once she noticed how uncomfortable Luke got with Julie knowing about that song specifically.
"If you could only know that I never let you go." Julie smiled at Luke. "Wow, Luke. Didn't know that you could be such a romantic."
"Actually, that one's about-" Alex butted in to tell Julie but Luke cut him off.
"No one. It was just something something that I tried.. Just go to the next page one more time and that should be the one that I came up with a killer beat." He then began to play a tune on his guitar as Reggie, Alex, and Julie bopped their heads to it.
"So, you want to sample?" Julie asked once Luke finished playing.
"Sample? Why would we do that. We're pure originality." Violet commented as they all got confused and faced Julie.
Julie shook her head no as she looked at them weirdly, "My mom and I used to sing that song at the top of our lungs in the car all the time. It's a classic Trevor Wilson song."
"Nope! It's a classic our song." Luke grabbed his book back and closed it.
"Pure Sunset Curve. Never ever heard of Trevor Wilson." Reggie added on next.
"Yeah, maybe you're mixing it up with another song."
"I don't mix songs. Trust me." Julie replied back. Violet scratched her neck, genuinely confused on to what was going on. As far as she could remember, Luke was the one who came up with that rift and she and Bobby were there helping him. "Me and his daughter used to be best friends. I used to hang out at their place all the time. I know that song."
"Okay..."
"Here, i'll prove it." Julie then said as she took her computer out her bag and began typing. Alex and Luke looked at each other while Violet was a bit anxious to see what was happening. There really was no way that someone could've came up with the exact same tune as them. That had to be impossible. But then again, great minds think alike so that could be a win? No. What was she thinking.
"His first album had a bunch of hits but none of his latest stuff is as good." Julie told them as she faced the laptop around and Violet could have sworn that her eyeballs had fallen out.
That was Bobby.
