All Nightmare Long
Chapter 403
Author's Note: There's walkers in the house! And Jewel isn't happy about being stuck with Ron and Sam, but to be honest would you? I've got to go check on other people first, please review.
Mar and Carol POV:
Mar looked at Denise as she was fixing up the Wolf. "You know we used to be like you," she said to Denise.
Denise looked up at her. "What do you mean?"
"Naive," Mar simply answered.
"You think I'm naive because I'm trying to help keep a man alive?" Denise asked.
"Yes," Mar answered as she kept her arms crossed.
"Then you must think that Morgan is naive," Denise said as she continued to work on the Wolf.
"No, he's just stupid," Mar answered. "You saving him, it's not going to make a difference, you know. He's going to die, and he knows it," she said as she bent down and looked at the Wolf. "Were you certifiably insane before the world went to hell or is this a new thing? That was a rhetorical question," Mar said.
"Why am I still alive?" the Wolf asked.
Mar looked at him. "Because right now, there's more important things going on than a low life murderer. And that's all you are, a murderer. And I think Denise is wrong, I don't think you can change, I don't think you want to change. I think you enjoy inflicting pain, I think you love watching people suffer, not even giving them a chance to to beg for your life. You tell yourself that we're all dead anyway, you've convinced yourself that, because then you don't have to face what you've done," she said as she stood up and moved across the room. She glanced up as Carol came in, unsteady on her feet. "Carol?" she asked as she took a step forward.
"Get the hell away from him," Carol told Denise.
Denise looked at her. "He's tied up."
"I said get away from him! Why haven't you killed him?" Carol demanded of Mar.
"Because there's more important things to be worried about right now," Mar said. "Plus, live bait is better than no bait if we need to get out of here," she pointed out.
Morgan came in and put his stick out in front of him and looked at Carol. "This could have waited, it should have, now it can't," he said.
"Carol what the hell is going on? You look like you are about to fall down," Mar said as she was eyeing the knife Carol was holding.
"She fell, she may have a concussion," Morgan said.
"I'm fine," Carol said.
"Is that why you look like that you are going to fall down?" Mar asked.
"I'm fine," Carol repeated.
Mar shook her head as she looked between the two of them. "This isn't the time to do this," she told them.
"You're right, it isn't. But we are going to do it now," Morgan said. "You don't need the knife, we can talk," Morgan told Carol.
"No, this is over," Carol answered.
"We can be better than them," Morgan said.
"We are better then them," Carol said.
"Not if we kill," Morgan told her.
"You're ready to protect a murderer by fighting Carol, and you are asking us to be better than them? That's a bunch of bull," Mar said.
"They made us kill, we had to stop it. I had to stop it," Carol said.
"With life, there's possibility, even if we never let him out," Morgan said.
"I'd get out," the Wolf said.
"Shut up,"Mar hissed.
"Even if we never let him out, he could know what he's done. He could know," Morgan said.
"Denise thinks he can change," Mar said.
"Do you?" Morgan asked her.
"No, I don't," Mar answered. "I also don't think that the two of you should be doing this now," she said as she watched the two of them as she glanced back at Denise.
"I don't want to have to kill you Morgan," Carol told him..
"You won't," Morgan said.
"I will," Carol said.
"You can't, I won't let you," Morgan told her.
Mar took out her gun and pointed it at Morgan. "Than you're going to have to take two of us, Morgan," she told him as she watched him.
Joey and Mika's POV:
Joey walked into the room where Mika was with Hope and Judy and bent down beside her. "We need to talk."
"The walkers' are inside the house, aren't they?" Mika asked as she looked at him.
"Yeah, they are, but you know we've got a plan," Joey said. "But we're going to get out, go right through them," he told her.
Mika's eyes get big as she looked at him. "How?"
Joey took a breath. "We're going to use bed sheets and cover ourselves with guts of walkers'. "
"Gross," Mika said as she got up and walked over to the bed and started pulling off the sheets.
Joey laughed. "It is," he said. "Jewel wants you to carry Hope underneath the sheet, protect her."
"I wouldn't have it any other way," Mika said as brought over the sheets.
"But?"Joey asked as he saw the look of hesitation on her face.
"Is it ok to admit I'm scared?" Mika asked.
"Of course it is, I'm scared too. It would be stupid not to be," Joey told her. "But let me ask you a question," he said.
"What?" Mika asked.
"Are you as scared as Sam?" Joey teased.
"No, of course not. I can't believe that I was anywhere like that a few months ago," Mika said.
"Well you aren't now, and that's the important thing," Joey said. "Come on let's get this over with, we'll leave Judy and Hope in here for now," he said as they went out of the room and walked a couple doors down to where they were working. "We brought more sheets," he said as they walked into the room.
Jewel looked over at them. "Joey tell you what's going on?"
Mika glanced at the walkers'. "Yeah, it's gross, but we got to do it right? I'll take Hope's carrier," she said.
Jewel nodded as she handed it to her.
Hope looked at her and Rick as she took the carrier. "I don't have to touch the guts right?"she asked as she put on the carrier.
Rick laughed. "No, we'll do it for you," he assured her.
Joey looked at the walkers and took a breath. "So, do I have to touch it?"
Jewel laughed. "Yeah, you're on your own," she teased and winked at Mika. She glanced over at Jessie and Ron standing outside the door. "Has she talked to Sam yet?" she questioned.
"Has Sam even came out of his room yet?" Joey questioned.
"No, but Jessie is going to have to get him soon," Rick said. "We're going to have to go get Quinn too."
"I'll go get her and say goodbye to Deanna," Michonne said as she stood up.
"Deanna is a good person, she's going to be missed," Mika said.
"Yeah, she is," Jewel said as she looked at Rick.
"But she is never going to be far from our thoughts and memories because she's going to keep living through us," Michonne said as she squeezed Mika's shoulder. "I'll be back," she said as she went out the door.
"You ready to do this?" Jewel asked Mika.
"No, but let's do it anyway," Mika said with a grimace.
Joey smirked. "See you're already being braver then some people I can think of," he said. He saw the look Rick gave him. "Mika asked me if it was alright to be scared, she didn't want to seem weak or like Sam..." he explained.
"You want to know a secret Mika?" Rick asked as he put guts on her.
"What?" Mika asked.
"I'm scared, too," Rick told her.
"You are?"Mika asked.
"I'd be a fool not too, we all would," Rick answered.
"Told you," Joey told her.
"This is something to be scared of, and we all know the stakes if this doesn't work. And the fact that you, Jewel, Hope, Carl and Judy are involved makes it even more nerve wracking for me. But we got this,"Rick told her.
"We always do," Mika said.
"Yeah we do," Jewel said as she glanced back at Jessie.
"We'll talk to her again," Rick assured her as he kissed her.
"I've got it," Jewel said as she stood up and went over to Jessie.
"Have you ever done this before?" Jessie asked Jewel.
Jewel shook her head. "I never had the pleasure," Jewel admitted.
"But Rick said he did," Jessie pointed out.
"Yes, a couple hours before we met, him and Glenn did it to get out of Atlanta. This isn't something we do regularly. We try to avoid being in the middle of a herd. We're as scared as you are. This is the last thing we want to do. I don't want to take my children out there, my family. I don't want to risk them any more then you want to risk Ron and Sam. But staying here, it's not an option," Jewel told her.
"I know," Jessie answered. "You don't think Sam is strong enough, do you?"
Jewel looked at her. "I don't think either one of your sons are," Jewel answered honestly. "Ron started the fight in the garage, he broke the window that let the walkers in. He put all of us in danger,"she told her.
"Ron said that they weren't fighting, so did Carl," Jessie told her.
"You know better," Jewel told her. "I don't think either one of your sons are strong enough to be out there, but that doesn't mean that i'm not going to do everything tin my power to make sure that they do survive. I also am going to make sure that they don't put my children in danger.:
"What do you suggest that I do? They are scared," Jessie said.
"So is Rick, so am I, so is Mika. But we face the fear, we admit it, and we certainly don't pretend that it's all in our imagination, and that we aren't afraid," she told her. "I'm not telling you how to parent, that's not my job. You do what you think is best for your children, but if it puts my children in danger, then that's when we have problems Jessie," she warned her as she started to go inside. "Ron, we're almost ready for you," she told him.
