Vera was relaxing out on her patio sipping on a glass of wine and looking up at the stars in the sky. Resting her head back against the lounge chairs back she let out a little sigh and closed her eyes. It was warm outside, the wind was light but not enough to give her a chill and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. Vera could hear the distant sound of frogs singing by the little patch of 'wilderness' if it could be called wilderness. Sometimes it was just nice to be out alone and not have to deal with acolytes and instructors. Vera had to be careful to not fall asleep out here, especially with a little fire burning in her elevated fireplace.
Suddenly the frogs all went quiet making Vera's eyes dart open, sitting up she looked out into the darkness, narrowing her eyes a little to see what was out there. Vera felt her heartbeat racing, slowly standing up from her chair and walking towards the edge of her patio. Turning slowly she went towards her sliding glass door, walking inside her house on her tippy toes to make the least amount of noise as possible. Pushing her door shut she slipped the lock down in place and stepped back away from the door.
She turned off her lights trying to see if she could see what was outside of the house, stepping a little closer to the door again she jumped back seeing something large run across her back yard. It had been quick, too fast for her to fully see outside of a flash of dark orange or yellows. Moving further from the door she grabbed her phone on her counter and started to dial up Hamish's number. Holding the phone to her ear she waited a moment hearing something crash at her front door and knock over her garbage can. The phone rang a few times as Vera waited. "Come on, pick up." She whispered under her breath.
Her heart skipped a beat when she could hear something at the back of her house now. "Come on." Dammit, she needed her powers back. Finally the phone was picked up, a groggy voice on the other end. "Hamish? I need you to come here right now, something is outside my house. Something big and fast. I can't make out what it is but it's circling my home and...Hamish?" She looked at her phone seeing he had hung up. "Excuse you." Vera felt a little pissed off at him now. "Great, fine. I'll deal with it myself." How did she intend to deal with this herself? She stood there looking at all the large windows that made up her home wishing about now that she had more walls and less windows.
Vera was waiting for the creature to round around the patio again, her fist clenching as she turned her attention towards the kitchen. Right, like a kitchen knife would do anything. Looking back to the sliding door she saw it there then, a large dark shadow with red eyes burning like fire. Without a second thought Vera ran for the kitchen counter and pulled out one of her knives. As soon as she turned back to the door however it was gone again. "Shit."
Hiding in a corner of her room Vera startled when she heard something at her sliding door again. Rushing down the stairs she was now armed a little more appropriately with a dagger she kept at her house. She saw another towering figure at her door but this time let out a sigh of relief. The greyish white werewolf was standing there looking in at her, turning her head and sniffing at whatever intruder had been snooping around though he was gone now. Tundra growled a low growl and got down on all fours, the hackles on her back raised and ears pinned back. Walking up to her door she unlocked it and slid it open almost jumping when Tundra turned at her quickly still growling. "Oh." Vera had been around Tundra before but only briefly. "Easy Hamish it's just me." She reached out as the wolf sniffed at her, moving it's massive maw as it licked it's lips. Vera patted her lightly on the side of her face seeing the yellow gold eyes look up into her own, the tension on its face fading away now and her ears perking forward.
Tundra's shoulders started to pop and collapse as the wolf morphed back into the familiar male with his dirty blonde hair and imposing height. "Vera." He put a hand on her shoulder. "Are you alright?"
"Fine." She pulled him into the house remembering the threat that had been outside. Shutting the door behind him she put her arms around him and ignored the fact he was standing in her living room completely naked. "Better now that you are here."
Hamish embraced her, holding her close and pressing his lips against her cheek. Funny, she seemed different again, something had changed about her, her smell, just her general everything seemed a little more on edge and yet soft and fragile. She was far from fragile but there was just a thought in the back of his mind that told him he had to be more careful with her. "Whatever it was it's gone now, it's scent was all over the yard."
"Was it Jack?" Vera wondered, though it hadn't looked like a werewolf it had been large and standing on two legs. What else could it have been? She didn't know of another creature like that right off the top of her head.
"No, it wasn't Silverback and I don't think it was alpha either. There isn't any wolf scent around here aside from my own that is." Not that Hamish had rolled around in her bushes rubbing off his scent on everything to tell all the friendly and not so friendly friends of the forest to stay the hell away, no, why would he do that?
"We need to get to the temple then, I need to look to…" Vera pulled away from him already on a warpath. She really didn't know how to stop, it was constantly go, go, go for her.
Hamish grabbed her by the elbow and pulled her back. "Vera." He looked down into her eyes. "We can wait until the morning, it's not safe to go outside right now." It was a lie of course but she needed to sleep.
She wanted to argue with him, stand her ground and ask him who he thought he was trying to tell her what to do. Then again she was also exhausted. "Fine." Her voice was a little harsh so he knew she wasn't happy about it. Quickly she changed though, her gaze softening. Hamish loved when she looked at him like that, she looked so perfect and sweet and it was probably manipulation on her part. "But, will you stay with me tonight?"
"Absolutely, I don't have anywhere better to be."
She didn't want to say anything but in a perfect world he'd be in her bed every night. Granted normally she would say she'd prefer to get some action out of it but she wasn't feeling up to par for it right now. Taking his hand she walked him up the stairs to the second floor of the house where her bedroom was. Once to her bedroom Vera fell onto her bed making Hamish panic a little. It was stupid to get worried because her bed wasn't about to hurt her.
Pulling back the covers of her bed Hamish helped her get under them only to have Vera raise a brow. "What are you, my father all of a sudden?"
Hamish chuckled. "I really hope not or I'm going to prison." Vera didn't seem to mind the fact he was in the nude, honestly she'd seen it enough even before they had been a thing due to his wolf transformations. It was never a 'thing' to them anymore. More so seeing Vera naked was a thing because as much as he could be a gentleman around her there were still parts of his body that had a mind all their own. Crawling under the blankets with her he laid his head on the pillow and brushed her hair out of her face.
Normally Vera liked a good healthy distance between them because she wasn't much for cuddles but tonight she could really use some comfort. Sliding across the bed she rested her hand on his chest and moved his arm to rest around her before pressing her forehead up against his chest and closing her eyes. As much as she didn't want to admit it she felt safe in his arms, it was nice being so close to him even if his body was at furnace levels of hot, not just in how attractive he was either.
Hamish could hardly believe it, having her this close to him and curled up in his arms because she wanted to be there was everything he'd been waiting for with her. Holding her closer he smiled a little, closing his own eyes and drifting off to sleep with the most remarkable person so close to him.
