Season 1, Chapter 2 - Start Over.

Angel Island - Knuckles' House.

Amy's eyes squinted from the morning sun outside, despite the coldness coming in through the open window. She heard the creaking of floorboards and shivered as a draft came in from underneath the door. She pulled the covers up over her head to shield herself from the winter weather but to no avail did it work. She was completely awake now. As she sleepily rubbed her eyes and yawned, she tried to adjust to her surroundings. She jolted, aggressively, as she was frightened, not knowing how she got to this place. She was inside of a room in a single bed, with a poster of Team Heroes on the wall and a bunch on maps laid on a desk table. She assumed that this was Knuckles' room. Amy scratched her head, trying to figure out why she was in his bedroom.

She sat up against the bed rest against the comfortable bed and winced as she felt pain from her leg. On top of that, Amy noticed there was black bruising underneath her skin as she peeked underneath her fur until she noticed that there were cuts and scrapes all over her arms and legs. She also had a sore throat, it took no genius to figure out that she had a cold. She looked down at her attire and noticed that her shoes were missing. Her dress was ripped up and had holes all over the place. She looked over into the mirror and saw a black bruise on her cheek. What the hell had happened to her last night?

She looked outside of the window and took note that she was on Angel Island, in Knuckles' house. There was melting snow on the island. She figured that she would call her friends with her communicator. Then, she loudly gasped and tears sprang to her eyes as she remembered the events from last night. She fumbled around with the bed covers and swung herself out of bed before realising she could not stand on her leg. It was broken. Amy groaned out loudly in pain before collapsing to her floor. She started to scream and took her hands to feel around her body.

"Am I dead?! Didn't I...fall off of a cliff last night?!" she asked herself.

Amy started to gasp for air, she felt like she couldn't breathe. Last night had traumatised her to the point where she would probably have a fear of heights for the rest of her life. She heard a bunch of footsteps and quickly summoned her hammer in defence. As soon as the mobian had opened the door, she got ready to throw her hammer at the target.

"Woah! Easy there, Pinky!" the startled voice spoke.

Amy poofed her hammer away and opened her mouth in shock. What the hell?

"R-Rouge?! What're you doing here?" Amy asked herself.

Rouge just stared. The pink little teenage girl looked quite interesting. Her legs were awkwardly sprawled out on the floor, her quills were a mess sticking out in all directions and she looked like a mummy that had just crawled out from her grave with all the bandages, her eyes red like she was high the night before. Rouge frowned at the girl, remembering her bad habit of getting caught up in trouble.

However, she and Amy needed to talk.

Rouge knew this wasn't a time for messing around. The 22-year-old went and sat down at Knuckles' desk while Amy pulled herself up onto the bed. She sat down with a serious face this time.

"Why did you do that last night?"

Amy looked at Rouge. She didn't know how to feel. Sad, empty, confused. Amy didn't even know why she had done that last night. One minute she stood in front of the Master emerald and the next she was falling towards the sea, snow pricking her skin and the wind lashing against her skin.

Amy stayed quiet as she heard Rouge sigh. It wasn't like she could open up to Rouge about her problems. And she knew Rouge was one of those people who liked to know everything down to the last detail. As far as Amy was concerned, her personal life didn't concern or involve her. She had already dragged enough people into her mess of life anyway. Thank God she was still alive after that.

Rouge could feel the awkwardness between the two and could tell that she had stepped on a nerve in Amy. So she decided to change the subject since she didn't want to be responsible for Amy's condition getting worse. She noticed that Amy had started to shiver and wrapped herself in the blanket.

"Nevermind, we can talk about this some other time. Right now, what we need to do is get you to a hospital." Rouge stated.

Amy sceptically looked at Rouge. Her and the bat weren't very close, and she knew her as a diamond thief. Other than that, she knew Rouge worked with Shadow and Omega in G.U.N. The last time she had seen Rouge, Rouge was about 18 years old. Sassy, sneaky and snarky. They both used to have a mutual dislike for each other, as Amy did with Knuckles. Amy was about to open her mouth and say something, but something in her mind told her that she should leave that in the past and focus on getting some help first.

"U-um... thanks Rouge."

Rouge rolled her eyes. She felt like a babysitter. Rouge took out her phone and decided on whether she should call Knuckles or not.

"Hm. There isn't enough signal on Angel Island. Maybe I should call him when I get to the hospital." Rouge quietly mumbled to herself.

Amy panicked. Her being in the hospital could alert her friends and she didn't want that. On top of that, Knuckles was going. Knuckles would no doubt tell her friends that she had tried to kill herself last night. He would also freak out and she wouldn't hear the end of it with him.

"If you're calling Knuckles, please don't tell him anything about me. What happened last night and that I'm with you."

Rouge looked over at Amy, confused. Amy sighed before quickly explaining to Rouge.

"Just... don't call Knuckles over and don't tell him anything. Please. It's not a good idea at all. It would just create more problems for me." Amy spoke.

Rouge wanted to know why Amy was behaving like this. Amy stared at Rouge, clearly upset.

"Just...please do it. I'll explain everything later."

Amy then fainted on top of the bed and started breathing heavily. Her whole face was red. Rouge, startled, got up from the chair and flew over to her, feeling her forehead.

Oh, God! She's burning up! Rouge thought to herself before hoisting Amy into her arms and carrying her to the hospital.

God, this girl was heavy. Rouge struggled as she took off and flew to the hospital with Amy in her arms.

Station Square - Tails' Workshop.

Tails paced back and forth around the shop. He was really worried about Amy last night. In fact, last night had been a disaster. He had barely been able to get a wink of sleep and he certainly did not want to be diagnosed as an insomniac at 14 years old. It was about 8 am and he could barely think straight.

He was also surprised at how he was the only mature one in the room at the moment. Sonic was currently chowing down on 4 chilidogs with his feet up on the sofa, one arm around Sally and watching the news. Tails couldn't tell whether Sonic was worried about his friend or just watching the news because he was on it. And Sally was sitting right next to him, lightly sleeping.

"Sonic, I'm really worried about Amy. Can you please help me look for her?" Tails finally asked, breaking the silence.

Sonic just chuckled.

"No can do buddy. I'm busy right now," he replied, patting his stomach and stroking his girlfriend's hair.

Tails groaned. As usual, he would have to do things himself. After all, Sonic owed him from all these times that he had saved him from Amy's wrath. Now, Sonic was just taking the ultimate piss.

"You count pigging out of chilidogs and staring at yourself on a screen as busy? Sonic, you can barely stand in one place for 2 seconds, get your butt up and help me!" Tails spoke, yanking the remote control and switching off the TV.

Sonic groaned and put his hands over his face.

"Oh come on, Tails. You know Ames by now. She'll probably drop by this afternoon with an apology. After all, she's supposed to be taking a break, I'm sure she understands." Sonic spoke with his thumbs up. Then he finished his last chilidog, wiped his hands and pulled his girlfriend closer to him. Sally woke up from the sudden movement and smiled at him, asking him if he wanted to watch a movie.

Tails shook his head. The blue speedster was just as lazy as ever whenever it came to not saving the day. It was either hanging out with his girlfriend or saving the city from Eggman. He preferred to stay away from anything emotional, especially concerning Amy.

He was starting to feel like a third wheel. Maybe he'd ask Team Chaotix for their help.

"Y'know what? Fine, Sonic. Stay there. I'll just do it myself." Tails sighed, exasperated.

Sonic looked at his buddy, confused as to why he was so upset. He had actually felt bad for making Tails upset and so decided to stand up from the couch.

"Alright, alright Tails. I'm sorry. I'll go now." Sonic spoke, stretching his limbs.

Tails looked at him and shook his head. He didn't want Sonic to feel forced into going, especially if he believed he didn't do anything wrong. It didn't look like Sonic wanted to resolve anything, as that attitude could make the situation worsen. Tails stared as Sally tugged on Sonic's arm.

"Amy probably went home last night. She'll be fine. Don't worry your pretty little heads about her, she's an independent girl. Plus, you promised to spend time with me today." Sally whined.

Sonic had a bit of conflict for a moment. He had to admit, he was a little worried about Amy, as when Tails sent him to look for her last night, she was nowhere to be found. And she wasn't even at home either. He went to her favourite spot to hang out, the park but didn't find her there either. But he also didn't want to get involved in any drama from Amy, he had had enough of that specifically from her for most of his life.

Tails decided to speak up.

"Don't worry about it Sonic. I'll just ask Team Chaotix for their help. You can stay here and look after the workshop with Sally." he spoke, emphasis on those last words.

Sonic retreated onto the couch, no longer worried about Amy as he could rely on Tails. He knew his little buddy well enough to be able to talk a little sense into Amy sometimes. And Tails was the one she mostly hung out with too. They were closer in the age range. He would be able to talk to Amy about how much his idol, Sonic, frustrated him sometimes, and she never made him feel bad about it, after all, she was going through the same thing.

As Tails put on a scarf and winter coat with warm shoes, he considered calling Knuckles too. He had gone MIA last night, and maybe he knew where Amy was. Trying to piece the missing pieces of the puzzle together, he decided to take a trip to Amy's house first.

Station Square - Good Planet Hospital

Rouge sat outside in the waiting room, feeling a bit restricted. She was trying to understand why and how the hell she ended up here. Rouge wouldn't admit it, but she actually felt like a babysitter or a mother, who had to care for the child. She always knew that Amy had a knack for landing herself in these situations and knew that she shouldn't have gotten herself involved... but, last night had changed her mind.

Normally, Rouge left people up to themselves whenever they had their problems. After all, she had her own to deal with. Sometimes she would try to help Shadow whenever he was struggling, but to be very honest, that was very rare of him. If she just left him in a bad mood and decided to ignore it, it would put a strain on her team. Rouge preferred to have order, not chaos...

Maybe that could explain why she had saved Amy last night. She looked at her sprained wrist from catching Amy from that fall last night and recalled those moments.

Rouge had come onto the Island, shortly after Amy had arrived to look for Knuckles, and admire that shiny, beautiful master Emerald. But then she noticed the young girl with bruises all over herself on the island, screaming.

Now, Rouge didn't dislike Amy. But she was hoping to have some alone time with her emerald and possibly Knuckles, and she knew how loud and obnoxious the teen was. So she considered trying to intimidate Amy off of the Island, confused as to how she got up there if she couldn't even fly. She was about to fly over to Amy, but then she saw Amy sit on the cliff, starting to cry her eyes out. Rouge felt a tug at her heart but decided to ignore it as she didn't want to get involved in her childish drama. Then, she noticed how Amy was sitting dangerously close to the edge of the cliff.

"Pinky! Pinky!" Rouge tried calling out, but she faltered as she could see that the hedgehog had no intention of listening to anything around her. The hedgehog was mumbling something to herself, but she looked like she was in a daze. It was as if something had entered and possessed her body.

"Oh, God, please help me. I don't know what to do anymore. I feel so unwanted, so lost, so alone. Everyone here has found their place in life and society. And me? What happens to me? I wind up here, nobody to comfort me, nothing. My friends don't want me, my mother is dead and my father is missing, I have no job, and now, I can barely pay my rent. How could I have been so blind? How could I have realised that I didn't have a place in this world to start?"

Rouge found herself staring at the pink hog, shocked. She found herself so confused. Rouge, as a spy, thought she knew everything about this team. She always had a strong distaste for their happy-go-lucky attitude. So why, why was this pink hedgehog sitting on a cliff looking so depressed? What had happened to her that had made her that made her look so terrible?

Rouge cautiously lowered herself from flying and walked towards her, trying not to scare her. She was going to convince the girl to back away from the cliff, and go home to get some rest. The pink hedgehog just turned around, with an empty smile, those soulless green eyes skimming straight past Rouge. Rouge was startled at the way her eyes looked. She got distracted for a moment, before seeing Amy's arms push herself off of the cliff.

Rouge then found herself blinking one minute and then the next, the girl was gone. Rouge had barely registered what had happened until she saw Amy's short quills disappearing over the edge of the cliff and heard her scream. Rouge realised that she was falling to the beach underneath Angel Island. There was no way, she would survive that. Amy was going to kill herself.

"No, no, NO! What the hell are you doing?!" Rouge yelled out after Amy.

Rouge didn't know what came over her, but she felt her wings almost cramp from darting over the edge of the cliff to save the passed out girl. She winced as she saw Amy hit a bit of land at the bottom of Angel Island. Rouge's body tensed painfully as the winter wind lashed against her, but she pushed on to keep on flying. Something was telling her not to let the teen die. She had almost hit the rocky cliff on the beach before Rouge had caught her and both of them almost smacked into the ground.

Rouge's heart was pounding like crazy, and she wanted to slap and scream at Amy for doing such a stupid thing. How could she just push herself off like that? How could the girl gather the willpower to end her life in such a way?

Rouge tried to convince herself that she didn't want to have to visit the Island being reminded that a little pink girl had tried to kill herself for reasons unknown, and that's why she had decided to save her. But Rouge knew that she had just simply wanted to save her from ending her life.

Rouge's wings had gotten tired from flying so she decided to use her remaining energy to fly back up to Angel Island and lay the unconscious girl in Knuckles' room. She also decided to crash the night on the couch.

Then, the events from this morning occurred.

Rouge closed her eyes and sighed. Why did she end up doing all of this for someone she barely knew? Why did she feel the need to help her out? What if she hadn't been there that night? There were so many questions bouncing around in her head. A voice then snapped her out of her thoughts.

"U-um...Hello. Miss Rouge, is it? Are you a relative of Amy Rose?" A brown mouse in nurse uniform asked her.

Rouge got rid of her train of thought and thought about how she would answer the question.

"No, I'm a family friend. Is that alright?" Rouge responded.

"Um, no, we're going to need her mother, father or relative over 18 I'm afraid." The mouse spoke.

"Well she doesn't have any family, she lives by herself. I was planning to take her in after this." Rouge professionally answered.

The mouse thought for a bit before collecting some papers from her clipboard.

"...Okay that's fine. Right now she needs treating. We'll treat her first and focus on everything else after. She's fighting for her life right now."

Rouge widened her eyes. She had just saved the girl's life yesterday. How was it that she was on the verge of death now?

"What happened to her?" Rouge asked.

"She has a severe fever, pneumonia, slight brain damage, severe sepsis and on top of that a broken leg. She has to go into surgery to repair that."

Rouge looked up in shock. She had never liked that word. She tried to compose herself.

"When's the surgery?"

The mouse looked again at her clipboard.

"9:00 pm. Visiting hours end at 7:30 pm. You can come and see her before the surgery if you want."

Rouge nodded and thanked the nurse. Then she quickly headed to Amy's hospital room. It was room 108. She opened the door and saw Amy look straight at her, frightened.

"Oh, it's just you Rouge,"

Rouge closed the door behind her and sat on the seat. There was one thing that she couldn't wrap around her head.

"Don't you want any of your friends to come and see you at the hospital?" Rouge asked.

Amy glared.

"No. I don't want to see anyone apart from you. Not even Knuckles."

"Why, Amy? Why do you insist on making life harder for you? I'm trying to help you out of this situation. Would you rather be stuck with a stranger-?"

"I'd rather be stuck with someone I know, yes Rouge, but why would they be here if they didn't care about me if they didn't want me? I just want to move away from here, erase my identity and start over somehow. If I can't kill myself or erase myself from this world, then why can't I just start my life over?" Amy sobbed into her hands.

Rouge stared awkwardly at Amy. She had never seen someone so sad or sorrowful in most of her life. She had never seen someone so emotional either. She sat with her hands clasped in her lap while she looked down, swallowing the lump in her throat at what Amy was telling her.

"Look what they've done to me Rouge! Look at me! Because of them, I may never be able to walk again, I could be speech impaired or develop a mental illness, I could die from sepsis-!"

"Do you want me to help you?" Rouge asked.

Amy looked at her, confused. She didn't know what she was talking about. Rouge, 'helping' people? Unheard of.

"It's for my own benefit of course. But sure, I'll help you start over, Amy. Let's make a deal."

Amy's jaw dropped.

"Are you out of your mind?! I'm in a bloody hospital! Why would you propose a deal to benefit you here?" Amy asked.

"Stop shouting. Now, this is a very risky thing you're doing. I'm not going to tell you how it benefits me, but I can help you reset your identity." Rouge proposed, looking like a negotiator.

Amy lay her hands at her sides with all the hospital wires attached to them and coughed as she had a cold.

"Alright, fine. Before you make any decisions, let me tell you everything."

Rouge nodded for her to go ahead.

Amy went ahead to explain what had been happening to her for the past few years with her friends and the big argument she had had yesterday night. She left out the minor details like her childish love life and parents. Rouge listened attentively, even though she was dying to hear more.

"And if Eggman hears that I'm in the hospital, there's no doubt that he'd come after me while I'm vulnerable. Making me look like the damsel in distress again."

"Wow. That's a lot to take in, Amy. I'm not sure how I can help you to be honest..." Rouge spoke.

"I'd prefer to let everyone, including him think that I'm dead. Since, y'know, my shoe might wash up on the shore or something." Amy thought.

Rouge was mortified. She could not even believe that Amyof all people came up with such an idea. Rouge still thought that maybe, maybe she could end up giving it a shot though.

"That's not a bad idea. But do you think they'll believe it?" Rouge inquired.

Amy clapped her hands together.

"Oh, please, Rouge. Amy Rose runs away from her friends after a huge argument, she accidentally slips and falls off a cliff and lands in the ocean. Her shoes are washed ashore and her body long washed away in the ocean. Not bad, right?" Amy proposed.

Rouge thought long and hard before agreeing with Amy. It was already risky since some people had seen her being rushed into the hospital. She would have to do a lot of things to try and erase Amy's identity in this part of Mobius. Especially in case, her friends came looking for her. Rouge knew that there was a certain genius who liked to stick his nose where it didn't belong.

Amy clutched her fists in anger. This was her second chance of redemption, and she was determined not to fail.

Maybe I should change my name to Thorn Ivy just in case, but let's not get ahead of ourselves just yet... Amy thought to herself. Then Amy stuck her hand out.

"Thank you for everything Rouge. I feel that I can trust you and hopefully, I'm not wrong. To years of friendship?"

Rouge hesitated. Friendship? This was foreign to her. She had friends, yes, but nobody ever directly asked her to be friends with her. Nonetheless, she shook her hand.

"To years of friendship, hun."

Station Square - Amy's House.

Tails had arrived in front of Amy's house, noticing the lights were off. The lights weren't on, but it was daytime. Still, the curtains weren't drawn. There were no footsteps in the slightly melted snow. Tails could tell she wasn't home but still wanted to make sure. After all, he had stopped by the local shop near his house to purchase a hot chocolate to warm his house, when suddenly an old wolf had told him some information.

"Amy definitely wouldn't be here, especially if they said she took off towards the city outskirts. But there's still a chance that she went home. I can't get inside though..." Tails mumbled to himself.

Tails took out his communicator to confirm something. He dialled Amy's contact and to his horror, her phone rang loud and clear inside of the house. Tails quickly flew up to the open window and slipped himself inside the house.

"This isn't intruding...I'm just looking around to find a friend."

The house was cold and empty with all the lights turned off. Amy's kitchen was empty, the house was completely pristine. Tails walked around and looked inside of her tidied bedroom, nothing. It was if she had left to go out for the day.

Boy...Amy sure does know how to cause a lot of drama.

Just then, Knuckles rang Tails' communicator. Tails sighed in relief and answered. This was just the person he needed to ask.

"Heya Tails. You doing alright?" Knuckles politely answered.

Tails blinked.

"You sure this is Knuckles talking?"

He heard knuckles

"Shut up before I hang up the phone."

"Okay, okay! What's going on?" Tails replied.

"I went round to your house to look for you, but Sonic said you were out looking for Amy. I just got back from treasure hunting. What happened while I was gone?"

Tails went silent.

"I'll tell you later, I'm coming to meet you on Angel Island."

Knuckles ended the call.

Tails went over to Amy's couch and sat on it to think for a little while. He knew that Amy liked to run off to quiet places whenever she was really upset. Sometimes she would hide it and other time she couldn't hold it in. He couldn't believe Amy had gone completely off the radar like that. She couldn't have just given up on her love for Sonic and her friends overnight.

Tails knew that he and his friends had messed up big time. And he wasn't sure how he was going to fix it.
