Chapter 6

"Knock knock." Elijah calls quietly, rapping his knuckles on the door of Bessy's room. The young girl's head snaps up from the book she was reading, smiling at the sight of her boyfriend stood in the doorway.

"How did you get up here?" She asks, jumping off the bed and straight into Elijah's arms, who catches her in a tight hug.

"No one's downstairs. I just walked straight up here." He replies, walking her backwards towards the bed, spinning them around so that he could sit down on the bed, pulling Bessy into his lap.

"The boys have gone to London." She states, sitting up to look Elijah in the eye.

"I know. I think pretty much all of Small Heath heard them go this morning." Elijah jokes, Bessy giving him a cheeky smile as she pushes him backwards on to the bed.

"You know what that means..." she teases, leaning down to kiss him. "We have the house all, to, ourselves." Elijah lets out a laugh, leaning up to kiss her.

"What about Finn?" He asks, Bessy rolling her eyes at his question.

"He's with your dad for the weekend. Did he not tell you? He's with Isiah." Elijah furrows his brow, shaking his head in response. "They're going away to some kind of show. Something about cars I think?"

"Nope...don't remember being told that..." he says slowly. "I know dad and 'Siah are away. Didn't realise Finn had gone too." Bessy nods, leaning down to reconnect their lips.

"Enough talk about our brothers, eh?" Bessy suggests, Elijah smirking in response, quickly rolling them so that he was hovering above her, lips barely touching. "Don't tease." She pouts, tilting her head to the side. "Gimme a kiss." Elijah pulls back ever so slightly, cocking his eyebrow at her. "Please..."

"Since you asked so nicely." He teases, moving to rest on his forearms, their lips meeting in a deep kiss.

"'Lijah?" Bessy murmurs, raking her fingers through his hair as he rests his head on her chest. Elijah hums in reply, his fingers dancing lightly over her hip drawing patterns there. "I need to talk to you about something."

"Sounds ominous." He replies, letting out a yawn, Bessy humming in reply. Elijah stills his fingers, rolling from his side to lay between Bessy's legs on his stomach, his head propped up on his hands, splayed across her ribs. "What's up, baby?" Bessy lets out a smile at the nickname he had given her, continuing to brush her fingers through his hair.

"Do you want to play a game?" She asks softly, peering down at him, Elijah shrugging in reply.

"Is this part of what you wanted to talk about?" He clarifies, Bessy nodding in reply. "Go on then."

"Close your eyes." She commands, resting her hands on his forearms. Elijah smiles as he realises the game she wanted to play, letting out a yawn as he settles his head on one side on his hands. Bessy takes a deep breath before using her index to trace a word on to Elijah's skin.

"We." He states, eyes closed as he focuses on working out the words Bessy was spelling. She presses a kiss to his head, indicating he had guessed correctly, moving her finger back to his wrist. "Are. Having. A. Bessy." Bessy pauses, sucking in her breath as Elijah tenses. "Bessy." He repeats, opening his eyes to look up at her, finding her looking down at him, lip caught between her teeth. Elijah pushes himself up on to his knees, eyes still locked on hers.

"The word wasn't 'Bessy'." She comments quietly, now moving to push herself up to sit against the headrest, tugging at the bed sheets to cover herself. She reaches forward with one hand outstretched, index finger ready to trace the word into Elijah's skin again. His hand jolts out as she goes to place her finger on his arm, catching her wrist in a light grasp.

"I got the word, Bess." He whispers, closing his eyes as he takes deep breaths, his chest rising and falling slowly with each breath. Bessy pulls her arm free of his hand, immediately pulling her knees up to her chest. The minute Elijah opens his eyes a few seconds later, he internally groans. Having known Bessy since they were babies, he had picked up on all of her quirks; when she was excited, she'd wiggle around, impatient, she'd bounce on the balls of her feet or rock on her heels, nervous, she'd pull her knees up to her chest, in an almost protective motion, occasionally she would also tap a specific rhythm into any surface she could find, the tune to a lullaby her mother used to sing to her. "Love," he whispers, tugging on her arms to release them from around her knees. "Bess." Elijah pulls her into his arms, hers immediately encircling his body in a loose hug. "Fucking hell." He breathes out, shifting her in his arms, her body fitting perfectly against his. "Do it again."

"What?" Bessy mutters, pulling back from his embrace, looking him in the eye.

"Do it again," he repeats, tugging her back to be flush against his body. "The words, Bess. Write the words again." Bessy nods frantically, taking a deep breath, resting her hands on his shoulder blades. She slides one hand down to rest on the top of his back, her index finger retracing the words, Elijah repeating them quietly. "We. Are. Having. A. Baby." Bessy presses a kiss to his shoulder after every word, letting out a shaky breath as she finishes, her hand stilling on his back. Before she could say anything else, Elijah lets out a laugh, clutching her to him as he lays her body back on the bed, nudging his head into her neck, peppering kisses there. "We're having a baby!" He exclaims, running his hands down her sides as Bessy lets out a sigh of relief, a giggle breaking free, quickly becoming a full laugh as Elijah pulls back, sitting back on his heels, punching the air.

"Elijah!" She laughs, shaking her head as she covers her eyes with her hands. "Eli!"

"Are you sure?" He checks, sinking back on to his knees, grinning as she nods. "Fuck!" He shouts, running his hands over his hair. "How far along?"

"Hmm, nearly 2 months," Bessy replies, still laying on her back, content at watching Elijah who flies off the bed, pulling Bessy up with him, swinging her up into his arms, spinning them both around the room. "Elijah! The curtains are open!" Bessy protests.

"So?" He replies breathlessly.

"We're not dressed!" She shrieks, ducking down behind the bed. Elijah let's out a laugh, quickly tugging the curtains closed, pulling Bessy back up and into his arms, rocking her from side to side.

"So, you're happy?" Bessy teases, tilting her head up to look at Elijah.

"Of course I am." He states, leaning down to kiss her deeply. "God, I fucking love you Bessy-Jo. And our baby." He drops down to his knees, pressing light kisses to her stomach making Bessy giggle.
