All Nightmare Long
Chapter 428
Author's Note: Jewel is already planning conversations with Negan in my head, great, but we got a while Jewel. I'm not sure if Negan is going to be attracted to her or furious with her, not sure which is worse. But you don't mess with Jewel's babies! And he's already got one strike against him with hitting on Summer. And, one scene with that guy and Enid is going to tick Jewel off, I'm sure you can imagine that isn't going to sit well with Jewel. I'm going to do one more chapter with 7 to 8 days passed then skip to like a month and half for a couple chapters, then onto the next chapter and with Jesus. Yeah Summer's not going to be happy to see him. Please review.
Hilltop:
Gregory looked at Jesus and Archie. "You're telling me that you let her take one of our cars and leave? Right after Negan's visit? What were you thinking Archie?"
"You didn't want her here, remember? You didn't want her to take up our resources and now you're upset because I helped her leave?" Archie questioned.
"She was our guest, not our prisoner," Jesus told him. "She wanted to leave, to check on her family and we had to respect that," he told the other man.
"What if Negan had men waiting? She was driving one of our cars!" Gregory exclaimed. "It wouldn't have taken much for you to keep her here, Archie. You aren't a bad looking man and she is a young woman," he pointed out.
The red head looked at Gregory. "You seriously aren't suggesting that I should have tried to seduce her?"
"That's exactly what I'm telling you! If Negan left people and they see the car, it'll bring trouble," Gregory said.
Archie took a step forward to punch Gregory but was held back by Jesus. "Gregory, we aren't like Negan, we aren't going to hold someone against there will," Jesus said.
"Did she tell you where she was from? We could tell Negan," Gregory thought.
"You are a weasel, you coward!" Archie said. "She saw right through you, that you were nothing but a coward. That tells me she's a lot smarter than the rest of us, because we somehow have you as our leader," he said.
"And who exactly is going to lead Archie? Everything that I've done, I've done for al of us," Gregory pointed out.
"Like letting Negan take my sister?" Archie questioned.
"She didn't tell us anything about where she was from, she didn't know us," Jesus pointed out."She left this morning and if Negan had left someone, then he would have already seen the car and been back here with her in toe. It's dark now, so I am pretty well sure that she is safe," Jesus told Gregory.
"But you can't be sure of that, you can't be sure that Negan won't come back again," Gregory pointed out.
"We are not going after her," Jesus said. "Goodnight Gregory," he said. "Let's go Archie," he said as the two of them walked out of the study leaving Gregory alone.
Alexandria:
Brianna walked into her Uncle Spencer's house with food. She looked around as she put the food down on the counter.
"Bri, what are you doing here?" Spenser questioned.
The teenager turned and looked at him. "Have you eaten today Uncle Spenser? Taken a shower? Changed clothes?"
"You can tell your mom that I'm perfectly fine and that she owes me some alcohol," Spenser told her.
"Mom didn't send me, I came over on my own. You are family and Gramma wouldn't have wanted you to be alone. She would have wanted to make sure that you took care of yourself and eat. I helped Carol cook today, so I asked if I could bing you some," Bri told him.
Spenser sat down. "Mom wouldn't want me to eat alone either, I'll split it with you," Spenser told his niece. "So does your mom and Gus know you are here?"
"Yes," Bri said as she sat down and split the food in half. "They found Summer, she's in the infirmary, she has an infection in a wound to her leg."
"They found her alive, then," Spencer commented. "Of course they did," he mumbled.
"You aren't happy that she's alive, Uncle Spencer?" the thirteen year old girl asked.
Spencer looked at her then down at the food. "I'm happy she is alive, she is a nice person. But Rick is responsible for the death's of my family, so I'm not happy that he gets a free pass."
"Your family? Your? Grampa, granma and Uncle Aiden were my family too, and mom's. You aren't the only one grieving," Brianna pointed out.
"Then why aren't you mad?" her uncle asked.
"I'm mad at Pete for killing grampa, I'm mad that Uncle Aiden didn't listen to Glenn and mom on the supply run, I'm mad at the walker that bit granma. I'm mad at this whole world that is like it is. I'm mad that you are drinking and isolating yourself because that's not what granma and grampa would want. I know that you got a letter from granma just like I did, so you know her last wishes. You and mom working against each other isn't what she would have wanted, it's not what I want either," Brianna said as she got up and moved over to him and hugged him. "I love you Uncle Spencer," she said.
"I love you too, Bri," Spencer said as he hugged her.
"You can't let anger take you over, it'll just destroy you in the long run," Bri told him.
"When did you get so smart, huh?" Spencer asked.
"She's a Monroe woman, of course she's smart," Quinn said. "Go on home, Bri, your uncle and I need to have a talk," Quinn said as she hugged her daughter. She sat down across from her brother. "Hungover?"
"I've had worse," Spencer said. "You took my stash," he accused.
"I didn't take it, I poured it down the sink. You don't need anymore right now," Quinn informed him. "I didn't send her."
"I know, she told me. She said Summer was found alive," Spenser told her.
"She did, she got lucky," Quinn replied as she watched him. "Are you going to have a problem with Rick, Jewel and I running Alexandria?"
"I don't have a problem with you, you're mom's daughter," Spenser answered honestly.
Quinn ran a hand over her face. "Spenser, we all lost mom, dad and Aiden, not just you. Instead of fighting, we need to pull together. Don't make me lose you too," she said as she stood up and squeezed his shoulder.
Carol and Jewel's POV:
Jewel came up on the front porch and sat on the step next to Carol. "When did you start smoking?"
"Something new," Carol answered.
"Bad habit, been telling Daryl that for years," Jewel said "Of course, I have a few of those myself."
"You want a drink?" Carol questioned.
"I wouldn't be a recovering alcoholic if I didn't," Jewel admitted. "Just because we found her alive, doesn't mean everything is coming up roses," she said with a laugh. "I was naive in thinking that we were safe."
"Not naive, hopeful," Carol said.
Jewel looked at her. "So what caused you to pick up the cigarettes?"
"They were laying next to Mrs. Neudermeyer's body, seems like they calmed her, thought I would try it," Carol answered.
"Is it working?" Jewel asked.
"Not really," Carol responded with a shake of her head. "I think all of this is getting to me," she admitted.
Jewel squeezed Carol's hand. "Everything happened fast, it always does. But you know we all appreciate everything you have done for us," she reminded her. "Even if we haven't always shown it," she said.
"Do you think Morgan has it right? I mean maybe he finally snapped because he had to much of the killing," Carol said.
"I would be lying to say that I would love never have to take another person's life," Jewel responded. "But that isn't going to happen, not if I want the people I love to survive. I threw a knife in the head of a man who was holding Summer. I didn't think about it, I didn't hesitate. I would do it again, for anyone and I know you would too," she said. "We don't have any other choice, not for other's to live," she told her.
"Walkers' got Sam?" Carol asked, ignoring the comment.
"He froze, in the middle of walkers'. He brought attention to himself, to all of us, he got bit," Jewel answered. "I told Jessie that he should have went with Gabriel and Mika to the church. If he had, then Jessie and Ron would probably be still alive and Carl wouldn't have been missing an eye," she told the other woman. Jewel looked back at the house as Hope started to cry as she got up. "I'll get her, you try to rest," she told her.
Summer and Carl's POV:
Summer woke up in the middle of the night and got up out of bed, holding onto the side of the bed before she sat in the chair next to Carl's bed and squeezed his hand. She smiled as he stirred. "Hey," she greeted.
"You shouldn't be up, you're leg," Carl pointed out.
"I'm sitting down. We didn't get much of a chance to talk when I got here earlier. You doing alright?" Summer questioned.
"Yeah, lucky to be alive. This should have killed me," Carl reminded her.
"It wasn't your time. I shouldn't have been found alive after six days, but here I am. We survived because we were meant too. Denise said she'd probably let both of out day after tomorrow. We do what we always do, help each other, help our family. You'll be shooting again, just as good as before," she informed him. "You are my brother, an honorary Dixon, so you don't have a choice but to be OK. I'm sorry that I wasn't here to help you," she said.
"You had no control over that," Carl scoffed.
"I'm your big sister, I'm always going to feel guilty when you guys get hurt," Summer said. "If you are not careful, you're going to take my roll over as getting shot."
Carl laughed. "Yeah still got a long way to go to do that," Carl told her as he gave her a smile. "Go back to bed, you got to get better too," he instructed.
Summer nodded as he kissed the cheek before getting back to bed.
