All Nightmare Long
Chapter 430
Author's Note: Now back to our regularly scheduled program. I always planned for Jewel to go with Rick and Daryl on the supply run, she hasn't been out in a while. So as always, thank you for reading. Please review.
Rick, Jewel, Summer, Carl and Michone's POV:
Jewel sat on the edge of the end of the bed, sharpening her knives as she grinned at Judith playing with the solo cups and a ball. "You found it Judith! You are a smart girl," she said with a grin. She glanced back at a pounding of the wall. "I'm glad Hope is such a sound sleeper, with Carl making all that noise," she said.
Rick laughed as he put on his gun belt. "At least he's listening," he told her as he kissed her.
"True," Jewel said.
"Mom, we're out of laundry detergent," Summer said as she came to the door.
"Carol put it on the list," Jewel said. "We will look out for it," she said.
"Do you have any toothpaste left?" Michonne asked as she came to the door.
"No cause someone's been borrowing it every day for two weeks," Rick answered.
Summer looked at her and shrugged. "Don't look at me, Mika used the last of ours yesterday."
Jewel sighed as she pounded on the wall. "Carl, stop it," she said.
"What? Denise says it's PT," Carl said through the wall, still bouncing the ball.
Rick glanced at Jewel. "What? I can't hear you, come out," he said.
Summer and Michonne both grinned.
Rick and Carl both looked at each other and said. "Denise says this is PT."
Carl looked at him. "You heard me," he said.
"Yeah," Rick said with a grin.
"It got you to stop throwing that ball against the wall, didn't it?" Summer asked.
Michonne looked at Carl. "It's time to change your bandage, and I need to borrow some toothpaste."
"OK, but I'm out of toothpaste," Cal said as he threw the ball to Rick. "Summer took mine a couple days ago."
Summer shrugged. "Lexi, Mika and I needed it," she said.
"So did I," Carl said. "Bye dad, bye mom," he said.
"We'll see you later," Rick said.
"You and Summer help Michonne and Carol with the kids," Jewel instructed as she stood up.
"We will," Summer said.
Rick picked up Judith and bounced her. "Come on sweet heart," he said.
"You both be good out there," Michonne told Rick and Jewel.
"Yeah we'll see," Rick responded.
"That's why mom is going with him, to keep him out of trouble," Summer teased.
"And who is going to keep her out of trouble?" Michonne teased.
"We keep each other out of trouble," Rick said as he kissed her. Thank you Michonne for watching over things," he said as he turned down the hallway.
"Spearment and baking soda, that's my favorite," Michonne called them.
Jewel laughed. "We'll keep an eye out," she assured the other woman as she squeezed her hand.
"As soon as we get it, you will," Rick assured her.
Daryl, Mar, Mitch and Denise's POV:
Mar wrapped up sandwiches and handed them to Mitch. "Put this in your dad's bag," she instructed to Mitch.
Mitch took it and unzipped the bag putting it in. "I wish I could go with them, it's quite boring staying behind the wall," Mitch said.
Mar arched an eyebrow. "Well, gee thanks," she said with a roll of her eyes. "Well at least you don't have to go to school anymore," she said as she shook her head.
"Small miracles," Mitch said as she grinned.
Mar laughed as she took the bag. "I'm going to take this out to Daryl. Don't forget that you told Beth and Maggie you'd help with the garden today," she instructed him.
"Still better than school," Mitch said as he walked out of the house with her. "Be careful Dad," he warned as he started to go down the stairs.
"I always am," Daryl said as Mitch went down the stairs. "What was that about?"
"He's overly excited that there hasn't been school in over two months," Mar reported as she handed him the bag. "I put some sandwiches in the bag," she told him.
"We shouldn't be out more than a day, since Jewel is coming with us and she is still nursing Hell Raiser," Daryl said.
"But as we both know, things happen beyond our control," Mar reminded him. She looked at the list in his hand. "What's that?"
"Denise's list," Daryl answered. "You got anything to add to yours?"
"Bras," Mar said.
"I'm glad Jewel is coming," Daryl said as he rolled his eyes.
"Oh stop it," Mar said as she hit his arm.
"I'll keep a look out," Daryl assured her as he kissed her quickly. He grinned as he spotted Denise. "Hey," Daryl called out.
"Yes?" Denise said.
"This thing at the bottom, you're talking about the drink, right?" Daryl asked.
"I am but," Denise said as she shrugged. Mar looked at the paper.
"I used to love that drink," Mar said.
"It's not medical," Daryl pointed out.
"No, I drew a line between the important stuff and that. I just figured that if you saw it," Denis said.
"All right," Daryl agreed.
"Anything remotely medical is a priority. And food, maybe even before medicine," Denise said.
"Denise, it's OK to want something frivolous now and then, something that reminds us of the time before this," Mar said.
"You like it right?" Daryl asked.
"No, I don't drink pop," Denise answered.
"What the hell is pop?" Daryl asked.
"She's from up North, it's what we call soda," Mar said with a grin.
"She's right, I'm from Ohio," Denise said.
"Why you want it?" Daryl questioned.
Denise smiled. "Tara was talking about it in her sleep, I think. Either she likes it or she doesn't, but if she likes it, it'd be a really nice surprise."
Mar smiled. "That's very thoughtful, Denise, she said.
Daryl glanced at Mar then looked at Daryl. "I'm not good with that kind of stuff, as Mar can tell you," he said.
"He's romantic in his own way," Mar assured him.
"Anyway, her and Heath are going on that two week run," Daryl said.
"I just thought it'd be a nice going away present. Just uh, don't go out of your way. And if it gives you any trouble," Denise said.
"He'll keep an eye out for it, and he won't take his unnecessary risks," Mar said. "Right Daryl?"Mar asked.
"Yeah, I'll keep an eye out," Daryl said.
"Okay good, it's not important. I should've just said so instead of just drawing a line," Denise said.
"It is important because you are thinking of Tara," Mar said. "I'll walk you back to the infirmary,"Mar said. "Be careful," she said as she gave him a quick kiss on the cheek.
"I will," Daryl said as he walked away.
Rick, Jewel, Axel and Quinn's POV:
Axel put a can of oil in the trunk of the car. "I just checked everything out, put new spark plugs in, should be in top running condition, well as much as can be expected in this time."
Jewel put her bag in the trunk. "Thanks, Axel. Did you add things you need for the shop to the list?"
"Gus did," Axel said.
Rick nodded. "We're not sure if we will be what everyone wants or needs, but we will do our best," he said.
"None of us have any doubt at that Rick," Axel said. "I certainly know that," he said.
"We're beginning to work like a whole community, not us and them anymore," Jewel said. "It's a good thing,"she said.
"It is, it's what mom wanted," Quinn said as she came in. "I have Olivia's list," Quinn said. "I tried to weed out the frivilous items," she said.
"People still aren't used to living with the bare necessities," Axel explained.
"We're trying," Quinn said.
"We know you are, at least most of you are,"Jewel said. "I still am watching your brother," she informed her.
"So am I," Quinn answered.
"Anything particular we need to keep an eye out for?" Rick asked.
"Clothes for the kids, bigger sizes. Batteries, candles," Quinn answered. "We can always use blankets and warmer clothing for everyone."
"May get lucky and find a over looked housing area, or a shop that was preparing for winter tucked away," Jewel said. "You just have to know where to look."
"Things get hidden, and if you don't know where to look, it gets overlooked," Rick said. "We've got hope," he said.
"If there is anything to find, they'll find it," Axel said.
"I know they will. I'm going to go on the supply run with Tara and Heath," Quinn reported.
Jewel and Rick exchanged glances. "You don't have to do that, you haven't been on a long run like that,"Rick said.
"It's about time, then isn't it? I need to learn, and it's better to do it now then when we have no choice. We all need to pull our weight, and this is my way of pulling my weight," Quinn reported.
Jewel nodded. "Well you're going to be in good hands," she said.
"I know," Quinn said.
Daryl came up and put his bag in the trunk. "We ready to get this show on the road?" he asked.
"As ready as we'll ever be," Rick said.
Jewel nodded as she got in the back, scooting over to the middle so she could see both Daryl and Rick.
