All Nightmare Long
Chapter 432
Author's Note: I love reading that people are rereading this from the beginning. That takes some devotion, let me tell you. And people who are finding it now and reading it? Wow. Thank you all for reading and reviewing. Please review.
Summer and Glenn's POV:
Summer stood on the platform with a rifle looking out over Alexandria. She didn't turn her head when Glenn came up to join her.
"Phoebe said that you told her that you'd take her shift," Glenn informed her.
"Yeah, it frees her up to do something else. And I didn't have anything else planned, might as well stay up here," Summer answered not taking her eyes off the road.
"How about sleep? That's something you should have planned," Glenn said.
Summer shook her head. "Even if I lay down, I can't sleep, so I might as well do something useful," she said.
Glenn sighed and grabbed her shoulder and turned her around to face him. "Hey, whatever it happened out there , it's over. It's been two months, you're here and you're safe. No one is going to let anything happen to you, you know that," he told her.
Summer looked at him. "It's not over Glenn, it hasn't even started. He's out there, with his men and every time one of us go out there, there's a chance of running into them. And, I'm not worried about me, I'm worried about everyone else, everyone in here," she said as she looked at him.
Glenn squeezed her hand. "We've dealt with things like this before, we'll handle this guy, and we'll do it together," he assured her.
Summer sighed and shook her head. "No, no we haven't," she told him. "I've looked into his eyes, and I'm telling you that it was like looking into the eyes of the devil. He bashed a man's head in and grinned. He was interested, too interested in where I was from. And he made sure to mention David's name and that he had a simular accent than me. The whole time I was looking at him, looking into his eyes, all I saw was that bat coming down on mom's head, on dad's head, on Carl's head, on your head, on Joey's head, on everybody's head that I care about. I had to get out of there and get back here and make sure everyone got prepared. The people that I killed and mom killed, were waiting for me. I don't even want to think what would happen if they did get me. I would have fought to my death before I told him anything. So you say that just because they aren't here, that it's over, it's not," Summer said. "If I never see him again or hear the name Negan again, it will be to soon. If we run into him, some of us are going to die, and that I am sure of. I saw him, Glenn, and I can't get him out of my head," she said as she slung the gun over her shoulder. "I'm not going to stand up here and explain myself and why I'm doing this. We protect each other, it's what we do," she said as she climbed down the ladder.
Spencer and Quinn's POV:
Quinn stood by the gate and waited for Spencer, she brought a shovel with her.
Spencer looked at her. "What are you doing Quinn?"
"The same thing you are doing," Quinn said.
"I don't need your help, Quinn," Spencer told her.
"Do you think you have a choice in this? She is my mother too," Quinn told him.
Spenser sighed. "You have your own family, you need to be in here," he said as he walked out of the gate.
"So I stop being your sister? Stop being her daughter? I stop caring about you because I have my own family? It doesn't work like that, Spencer," Quinn said as she followed him out. "You act like all your family is dead, and that isn't true. I'm here, Bri is here, and everybody in Alexandria. You can't cut us out, cut me out," she informed him.
"You have someone to go home and talk to, you have someone to hold you when you cry, so it's not the same," Spencer told her.
"I didn't say it was," Quinn said. "I can't imagine what it's like for you in that empty house all of a sudden. You're more than welcome to move in with Gus and me."
"I don't need your sympathy," her brother told her. "How did you even know that I was coming out here?"
"I've seen you coming in late with a shovel, it doesn't take a genius to figure out. We didn't find mom when were taking care of the walkers', so it makes sense that you are out here looking for her," Quinn said. "Why didn't you tell me? I could help look for her. You don't have to do it yourself," she insisted.
Spencer stopped and looked at her. "Go home Quinn. I don't need you to look after me, I'm not a kid anymore."
Quinn looked at him. "You know I don't remember when Aiden was born, I wasn't even two yet, but I remember when you were born. Dad walked me into the hospital room, sat me down and put you in my arms. You were such a little wrinkled thing I remember telling you that I hoped you wouldn't be a pain like Aiden," she said as she wiped her eyes. "For the most part, you haven't been," she teased. "Mom, dad, and Aiden are gone, there's nothing that can change that, but we are still alive, and we are still family. I'm not going to let you be out here alone. I'm going to follow you, everyday until you get tired of coming out here. You can't stop me from looking out for you, it's my job, it'll keep being my job," she said.
They both looked at the sound of a walker. "Coe on, come on," Spencer said as Quinn went to move forward. "I want to do it," he said.
Quinn looked at him standing back with her hand on a knife.
"Come on," Spencer told the walker.
"I got it," Michonne said as she came out of nowhere and used her sword to decapitate the walker.
"You think I couldn't get it?" Spencer asked.
"You could have, I have a sword," Michonne said.
"I appreciate it, I would have taken it out if it got to close," Quinn said.
"I know you would have," Michonne said.
"What are you doing out here?" Spencer asked.
"I was on guard, I saw the two of in the woods. What are you doing out here?" Michonne asked.
"I followed him," Quinn said.
Spencer sighed. "I walk after my shifts, been doing it for a while. You're the first one to notice, beside Quinn. But she's always been noisy," he said.
Quinn raised an eyebrow. "I'm a big sister, it's my job to be noisy. I call it being concerned."
"Why the shovel?" Michonne asked.
Quinn looked at Spencer. "We have something that we need to do," she simply answered
"I have something to do, you need to go home," Spencer told his sister. "I'm going to keep walking now," he said.
"I'm going to come with you," Michonne said as she glanced at Quinn.
"It's ok with me," Quinn responded.
"It's not OK with me," Spencer said.
"Your mom told me that I had to figure out what I want for my whole life," Michonne told them.
"Have you?" Spencer asked.
"I'm working up to it. Right now I want to find out why her son and daughter are wondering around the woods with a shovel," Michonne said as Spencer walked ahead of them
"I'm just keeping an eye out for my little brother," Quinn responded.
"I don't need you to look after me. I want to be left alone. Why are you still here Michonne?" Spencer questioned.
"I liked your mom a lot. I really don't want either one of you to die, so come on, let's go home," Michonne told Spencer.
"My family is dead," Spencer spat.
"He doesn't consider me family because I have Gus and the girls, I told him that it doesn't work like that," Quinn explained.
"She's right, it doesn't. She wouldn't be out here if she didn't care. I wouldn't be here if I didn't care," Michonne pointed out.
"It's not home, it's just where I live," Spencer told them.
"That's bullshit and you know it," Quinn informed him.
Michonne looked at him. "It's more than that," she told him.
Jes, Beth and Sasha POV:
Jes sat down with guard list as Beth and Sasha joined her. Jes glanced up and arched an eyebrow. "Can I help you?"
"We need to continue training," Sasha informed her.
"I couldn't agree more," Jes answered as she went back to her list.
"We want to help," Beth said.
"You two aren't going to leave until we discuss this are you?" Jes questioned as she sighed.
Sasha and Beth looked at each other then at her. "No," they answered in unison.
Jes sighed. "Set up a schedule, post it, go with it."
"We wish it was that simple," Beth answered.
"Why isn't it?" Jes questioned.
"Because even though the Alexandrian's are better than they were, they still don't want to do anything voluntarily," Sasha answered.
"They still like to be told what to do," Beth said.
"By someone who is in charge," Sasha finished.
Jes looked at both of them. "Then you should be talking with Rick, Jewel or Quinn. I'm not in charge."
"You might not think you are, but you are," Beth answered. "People know you and Abraham are in charge of military training, along with Gus. But they look to you for guidance in things with weapons and stuff," Beth said.
Jes sighed. "Alright, I will talk with Jewel and Rick, then we can make it mandatory. I hate dealing with adult children," she said with an eye roll.
Author's Note: Someone asked when I would update. I don't have an update schedule. I try to update anywhere from every two days to fourteen days. I work ten hour days, and by the time I get home, my muses are usually silent. I am never going to stop writing this.
