All Nightmare Long
Chapter 437
Author's Note: I have been looking forward to this chapter forever! Though, I didn't realize how much stuff I would have to rewrite or just keep out. I really don't need to show Abe and Rosita in the bedroom. And of course, Michonne isn't coming out of the bedroom with Rick. Yeah I rally need to find Michonne a love interest. But, I'm really excited about Summer's role in this arc and All Out War. My baby is all grown up! And if a pregnant woman can go to the Hilltop, so can Mitch. He's getting bored in the house! Review please.
Beth, Glenn and Maggie's POV:
Beth worked on one trellise for the tomatoes while Maggie worked on the other. Beth looked over at Maggie. "I can handle the rest of this, you should go and rest. It's not good for the baby if you push yourself to hard," she told her.
"I can help, I'm not that far a long yet,"Maggie said.
"Daddy would have told you that getting rest now is important," Beth pointed out. "He would also tell you that other people can do this," she reminded her. "He'd be excited for his first grandchild," she said with a smile.
Maggie smiled. "He would," she agreed. "I'd tell daddy that this is important too and that we all have jobs to do," she said.
Beth laughed. "No you wouldn't have," she disagreed. "You wouldn't have talked back to him and you know it! You would have listened," she reminded her. "I miss him, especially with something like this happening. He helped when Lori was pregnant with Judy and when Jewel was pregnant with Hope. He was so happy, seeing them as hope for the future. This would bring him so much joy, " she said.
"I miss him too, Bethie,"Maggie told her. "He'd be proud of you, you know? I'm proud of you," Maggie said.
Beth smiled as she continued to work as Glenn came up. "Hi Glenn," she greeted.
"Hey," Glenn greeted both Beth and Maggie.
"Hey," Maggie answered. "We get the trellises in, we can start going vertically. Double our yield of tomatoes square foot. We can only keep stretching our rations so far. Still haven't seen a single bud," she said.
"It takes time Maggie," Beth reassured her.
Glenn went to hug Maggie. "Babe, it'll grow, we're gonna be OK," he told her.
Beth stood up. "Take her back to rest, I can finish this up," she said as she turned to see what Maggie was looking at. They saw Denise getting Joey and Summer's attention as they ran down the steps after her. Glenn, Beth and Maggie ran after them.
Joey and Summer's POV:
Summer adjusted the rifle on her shoulder as she walked with Joey. They walked past the apartment that was used as a jail and saw Denise running up. "Denise? What's the matter?" Summer asked.
"The prisoner your parents and Daryl brought in, he was down here, I came to check on him and he was gone," Denise told them.
Joey looked at Denise. "Show us," he said as they quickly followed Denise down.
Summer looked at the lock on the door. "It's been picked. Where was the guard?"
"On the other entrance," Denise answered.
"We need to find him,"Summer said. "Come on," she said as she started to run up the stairs almost running into Glenn.
"Woah, easy. What's wrong?" Glenn asked as he took hold of Summer's arms.
"The guy dad brought back, he broke out," Summer said. "I'm going to run to the house, tell dad and Uncle Daryl, the rest of you go get everyone else, start looking around the house," she said as she started to go past them.
"Hey, we have no idea if this guy is somehow armed," Maggie said.
"We also don't know who he is, or how long he has been gone, so the quicker we spread out, the better," Summer said. "I need to go over to the house and make sure everything is alright over there, make sure everything is alright. Get everyone together," she said as she ran up the stairs.
"Go with her," Glenn told Joey. "We'll get every one and rendezvous at the main house," he instructed.
Joey nodded. "Check the armory, make sure nothing is missing," he responded.
"I'll go, make sure nothing is missing," Beth said as she ran up with Joey, both going in opposite directions.
Team Family POV:
Jesus looked at the painting on the wall before he took it off and sat down on the steps.
"What the hell are you doing in our house?"Carl asked as he cocked his gun.
"I'm sitting on the steps looking at this painting waiting for your mom and dad to get dressed. "Hi, I"m Jesus," Jesus introduced himself.
Carl started to say something as Summer came in. "You're the prisoner?" Summer asked as she pointed her gun at him.
"Summer, it's good to see you again. This is your home?" Jesus questioned.
"Obviously," Summer answered. "You're not staying, you're going back to the Hilltop," she said.
"Summer, you know him?"Rick asked as he came out of the room with his shirt off.
"He's one of the ones that helped me," Summer said. "He needs to go, give him the car that we brought back, and he needs to go," she said as Abraham and. the others came and held a gun at him.
"Thank you for saving Summer's life, but that doesn't make up for the fact that you attacked us," Jewel told Jesus as she came out of the room holding Hope.
Rick looked at everyone. "It's OK," he told them as he put on his shirt. "You said we should talk, so let's talk,"Rick told Jesus.
"Dad, we really need to send him on his way," Summer insisted.
"Daryl take Jesus to the dining room, we'll be there in a bit," Rick instructed.
"Come on," Daryl said as he nodded toward Jesus who got up and followed them.
"If I knew he was the one you brought back, I would have told you to send him on his way," Summer said as she crossed her arms.
"We don't know what he has to say," Jewel told her.
"We don't need too," Summer insisted. "There was a reason I didn't tell you anything about Jesus or the Hilltop, just like I didn't tell them anything about Alexandria and us. I'm trying to keep us safe. We don't need to bring anyone back," she informed them.
"Daryl thinks the same thing," Rick said.
"He's right," Summer told him. "He needs to go, now. We don't need anything that he has to offer."
Jewel took a breath and placed her hand on Summer's shoulder. "Sweetheart, I know that you are just trying to protect us, but he saved you. He didn't know you, yet he took you back and got you medical attention and saved your life. For that reason alone, I feel like we need to listen to what he has to say."
"We're just going to hear what he has to say," Rick told her. "You come with us, and if he says something wrong, you can tell us," he said. "You with me?" he asked.
Summer sighed. "I don't really have a choice, I'm not letting him out of my sight," she said as she walked into the dining room and stood next to Jes.
"You're not happy with him being here," Jes whispered.
"Not at all," Summer answered.
Rick sat down next to Jesus. "So how'd you get out?" he asked.
"One guard can't cover two exits with third floor windows. Knots untie, locks get picked. Entrope comes from order, right?" Jesus asked.
Rick looked at him. "Right."
"I checked out your arsenal, haven't seen anything like that in a long time," Jesus said.
"I checked inventory, nothing was missing," Beth said.
"I didn't need anything," Jesus answered. "You're well equipped, but your provisions are low, very low for the amount of people. You have fifty four?" Jesus asked.
"More than that," Maggie said.
"You'll forgive us for not telling you the exact amount," Jewel said as she nursed Hope.
"Of course," Jesus answered. "I appreciate the cookie, compliments to the chef," he said.
"Yeah she aint here,"Daryl told him.
"Look we got off to a bad start but we're on the same side, the living side," Jesus informed them.
"Did you tell that to the man who you watched get his head bashed in with a wire covered baseball bat that? He isn't among the living anymore, is he?" Summer asked.
"I'm sorry you had to see that,"Jesus responded.
"I'm not," Summer answered.
"Go on," Jewel told Jesus.
"You Daryl, Rick and Jewel had every reason to leave me out there but you didn't. I'm from a place a lot like this one. Part of my job is searching out other settlements to trade with. I took your truck because my community needs things and the three of you look like trouble," Jesus said.
"We needed those things too," Jewel pointed out.
"You did," Jesus answered. "I was wrong about the three of you, you're good people. And this is a good place. I think our communities may be in a position to help each other," Jesus said.
"Do you have food?"Glenn asked.
"Summer can tell you," Jesus said.
"Ididn't see a lot, except for the room, the garage and some one getting there head bashed in," Summer said. "I guess I saw some live stock," she admitted.
"We started to raise live stock, scavage, we grow everything from tomatoes to surgrum," Jesus explained.
Rick looked at Summer then at him. "Summer said she didn't see a lot, so why should we believe you?"
"Summer was sick for a lot of her stay, and she left quickly," Jesus informed them.
"You don't blame her, do you?" Jes asked.
"No, we were just afraid that she wouldn't make it home, afraid that people would be waiting for her," Jesus said.
"They were, but I killed three of them and mom killed one," Summer said. "But he is right, dad, I was sick," she asked.
"So, she can't confirm it, so once again why should we believe you?" Jewel questioned.
"I'll show you, we take a car, I can take you back home in a day," Jesus told them.
"Axel fixed the car I took, you can take it back, when you go, alone," Summer said.
"If he's telling the truth, we need to check it out,"Beth said.
"I promise you won't be in any danger,"Jesus said.
"You can't promise that, no one can,"Jes said.
"You're right, but if I was a bad person would I have saved Summer? I saved her not knowing anything about her, that's what I do, and that's what you do too," Jesus said."You can all see for yourselves who we are and what we have to offer," he told them. "Summer you can see what we really have to offer," he said.
"Wait, you're looking for more settlements? You mean you are trading with other groups?"Maggie asked.
Jesus leaned back in the chair. "Your world is about to get a whole lot bigger," he said.
"I'm not sure that's something we need," Summer said under her breath.
"If you are luring us into a trap, you'll lose," Jewel said.
"I don't doubt it," Jesus answered.
