Chapter 440

Author's Note: I've been excited to see Jewel and Gregory interacting. Like oil and water, I am very excited. I'm not sure why I'm so excited but I am. Please review, it means the world to me.

Team going to Hilltop POV:

Mar put her head on Daryl's shoulder. "You think Mitch is alright back there?"

"He's with Summer and Joey, he's alright. I would have backed you up if you told him he couldn't have came," Daryl said as he kissed the top of her head.

"He's with all of us. I know that he'd rather be out of here with you than in Alexandria," Mar said.

Daryl shifted his position as the RV started to slow down. "Hey Rick, what's going on?" he asked.

Rick put his hand out the window to tell Summer they were stopping. "We got a crash ahead, looks like it just happened."

Jewel looked at Jesus who started to stand up. "Hey, what are you doing?Sit down," she told him.

"That's one of ours," Jesus said as he went out the door and went to the car followed by everyone.

"Rick what's going on?" Joey said as he joined them.

"We're trying to figure that out," Jes said.

"If this is a trick, it won't end well for you," Rick said as he pointed a gun on him.

"There's a whole lot more of us than there is with you," Beth said as she went over to the car and put a knife through the head of the walker that was trapped.

"My people are in trouble," Jesus said. "They don't, we don't have a lot of fighters. I know how it looks but I'll play it out," he said. "Can I borrow a gun?"

"That's not happening," Michonne answered.

"Nah. Got tracks right here," Daryl said.

"You aren't going alone, that is not happening. You want your people rescued, then we go with you," Summer told him. "Go ahead, you first," she told him.

"Great, another community who hid behind walls and should be dead," Jes said.

Abe laughed. "They got lucky. Hey, you ever think about finding a boyfriend, settleing down?"

Jes arched an eyebrow. "What is it with you all of a sudden? Asking all these questions?"

"Just with Maggie knocked up," Abe told her. "Got me thinking."

"You can't bullshit a bullshitter, Ford. You're acting like this baby is the first baby born after the end of the world, but it's not. You thinkin about knocking up Rosita?" Jes asked.

"Nah, nothing like that," Abe said as Rick motioned for them to stop.

Rick went up to a building and knocked.

"They've got to be in there," Jesus said.

"They could be injured from the crash,"Jewel pointed out.

"We moving in or what?" Abe questioned.

"How do we know this ain the fire crackers in the trash can?" Daryl asked.

"You don't," Jesus answered.

"Do you really think he staged a car crash? He didn't even know that we were were going to be coming with him,'" Mitch said.

"He's got a point,"Joey said.

"We'll get your people, you're staying here with one of us," Rick said.

Jesus looked back at the group.

"That's the deal," Michonne told him for the group.

"Will you stay?" Glenn asked Maggie.

"Yeah," Maggie said.

"I'll stay with her," Mitch said.

"You all go, just be careful," Maggie said.

"Yeah, we're going to be careful," Rick said as he put handcuffs on Jesus. "Here me whistle, shoot him," he instructed.

We will," both Maggie and Mitch said.

Daryl kept the door open letting the group go in. Maggie and Glenn looking at each other through the glass.

"He'll be OK," Mitch told her.

"Yeah they will be," Maggie said.

"If there not, neither will you," Mitch told Jesus.

Inside the building:

Rick motioned to the group to split up, Jewel and Michonne following him. Jewel spun around and took out a walker with her knife as they went into a room. Jewel motioned to movement in the corner.

"Come out, we're not going to hurt you. We're friends of Jesus, we're here to get you out," Michonne said.

"Two more, they ran ahead," a black woman answered.

"Either one of you injured? We saw the accident," Jewel asked.

"No, we're fine, there was another one of us that were injured," the woman responded.

"Let's go," Rick said. "Jewel take the back," he instructed.

"On it," Jewel said.

In another part of the building, Beth Glenn, Mar, Summer and Joey approached another hallway. Daryl, Joey and Glenn all took out walkers before they went into another office. Daryl motioned for Beth and Joey to stay outside the office and keep an eye for any walkers'.

"Come on, we're with Jesus, let's go,"Glenn said as he saw a man in the corner.

Carson held his hands up. "I can't go with you, I'm looking for my friend, he's close, he's hurt from the crash," he told them. He looked at Summer. "How's the leg?"

"Don't ask her questions," Daryl ordered.

"It's OK Uncle Daryl, he helped when I was injured. I'm fine," Summer answered.

"Come on, let's go," Joey said. "We'll look for your friend, but we need to get out of here," he said.

Abe pushed the injured man against the wall, staring at him. Jes came around the corner. "You OK?"

"Yeah," Abe answered.

"Come on, let's go," Glenn said as the rest of the group came down the hall.

"You got him?" Glenn questioned.

"Yeah," Abe answered as he helped the injured man.

Summer went to the door and opened it, letting the group go out. "Everyone's alright," she told Maggie and Mitch.

"My people?" Jesus asked.

"One of them is hurt but he'll be alright," Summer answered.

"Why is he in handcuffs?" the woman questioned.

"It's alright, Bernie, they didn't know me," Jesus answered.

Jewel glanced at Rick and nodded as she took the keys to the handcuffs and undid it."Don't any of you get any ideas," she whispered in Jesus ear.

"We won't," Jesus said.

"What is the riding arrangements?" Joey asked.

"I'll ride in the car with Summer, Mitch and Joey," Mar said.

"I'll look at your leg when we get in the RV," Jewel told the man.

"You a doctor?" the doctor asked.

"Emergency room nurse, mother of a teen age boy and that one over there who likes to get shot. I can handle a wound from a car accident," Jewel said. "I'm Jewel Grimes," she said as she got into the RV.

I'm Freddie," he said as Jesus helped him sit down.

Rick sat down in the drivers seat and watched the car behind him, Summer motioning that they were ready.

"You OK Freddie?" Jesus questioned.

"He's got a wound in his leg, I'm sure it is as painful as it looks," Jes said as she sat down beside Abe.

"There's something more isn't it?" Jewel asked as she was checking the wound.

Freddie looked at her. "How did you know?"

"I've had a few near death experiences myself, most of us have. This your first one?" Jewel asked as she worked on his leg.

"I don't really...we don't really go out a lot," Freddie answered. "There's a couple of people who go out a lot on supply runs, Jesus included. Don't you just have a few that go out?" he asked.

Joey laughed. "We all do everything, didn't you notice the eleven year old with us?" he asked.

"We didn't live inside walls, all the time," Jes answered.

"So who did you see?" Jewel questioned. "Don't try to deny it, it was your first near death experience, you always see someone the first time."

"For a second back there, just when I thought he was gonna..." Freddie said before he looked at Abe. "I saw my wife. She died before all this, just when I thought it was over, there she was, clear as day," Freddie laughed.

Beth, Maggie and Glenn's POV:

Harlan sorted through medicing and put it in a bag. "Names Harlan by the way," he said.

"Maggie, this is my sister Beth and that's my husband Glenn," Maggie introduced.

"We're bringing back medications. You may have saved more people than just us back there Glenn," Harlan said.

"You're a doctor?"Glenn asked.

"Yeah that's right," Harlan answered.

"That's why you asked about Summer's leg," Beth said.

"Yeah, she was running a fever when Jesus and Archie brought her in," the doctor answered.

"You have any prenatal vitamins in there?" Glenn questioned.

Harlan smiled and looked at Maggie. "For you?" he asked as Maggie nodded."Well, um, I was an obstetrician before and I most definitely owe you. So, I'd say you just hit the jackpot," he told them.

Beth smiled. "Daddy always said things work out the way they're supposed too. Thank you," Beth said with a smile toward the doctor.

Jewel got up and sat down beside Rick and looked at him. ""What's wrong?"

"Damn it," Rick said as the tire spinned. "A storm must have passed through, we're stuck," he said as he motioned to Summer to stop her car.

"No worries, we're here," Jesus said as he squeezed Rick's shoulder. He got out of the RV with everyone, Summer, Joey, Mar and Mitch got out of the other car going up to him. "That's us, that's the Hilltop."

Everyone stopped and looked at the gates.

"Stop right there," a mans voice came from up top of the gate.

The guns all came up and pointed at the gate. "You gonna make us?"Daryl questioned.

Jesus turned to face the group. "Woah," he told them.

"Jesus, what the hell is this?" the male's voice questioned.

"Open the gates Kal," Jesus said. "Freddie's hurt," he said as he looked at everyone. "Sorry about these guys, they get antsy standing up there all day doing nothing," Jesus said as he turned around and looked at Kal.

"They give up the weapons, then we'll open the gates," Kal said.

"Dude you have spears, we have guns, who do you think has the better chance of living?" Mitch called up.

"He's got a point," Daryl said. "Why don't you come down here and get them?"he asked.

"Gentlemen. Look we vouch for these people alright?They saved us out there," the Doctor said.

"Lower the spears," Jesus ordered.

Rick looked at Jesus. "Look I'm not taking any chances. Tell your guy Gregory to come out here," he said.

Summer laughed. "Yeah I don't think Gregory's ever seen the outside of the big house."

Jesus nodded toward Summer than at Rick. "No, dont you see what just happened?I'm letting you keep your guns. Look we ran out of ammo months ago. I like you people, I trust you. Trust us. Open the gates Kal," he said as Rick motioned for his people to lower the weapons.
