Good morning. Today I bring Chapter 14. Gwen's perspective, about knowing who really Telvar is. I hope you like it.
I'm not awn from Merlin.
"And now, if it's not a nuisance, I'll go downstairs with him, for that's what he asked me to do!"
Gwen saw the man they called Telvar come down with Merlin's body on his lap, clinging to him in his bear arms.
Gwen didn't know what to think of all this. He had been with Arthur and Morgana upstairs, trying to sleep, when he had heard a heartbreaking cry from Merlin. She had never seen him scream like that, but apparently, it was something they didn't want to comment on, and they wanted to talk about it in secret. Perhaps Merlin had not chosen this particular site just because they were passing through...
Meanwhile, Arthur and Morgana had come down the stairs with her and found Merlin with the face of someone poisoned, seconds later semi-unconscious in that lumberjack's big arms.
Morgana had screamed like a possessive as if it was the end of the world. Instead, she and Arthur had been paralyzed by the scene. Gwen thought maybe the man wasn't as good a host as Merlin had assured. A host wouldn't have knocked his guest unconscious in the first hour.
After arguing, Telvar had gone with Merlin to the basement. The basement, often and typical place, isn't it?. They just had to choose a dark place and there would probably live arácnids with twenty legs (possible as Gwen saw it, seeing the house and the host) and who knows what else.
And so, the three of them had been stunned by what had just happened, as if they had seen magic. Gwen laughed at that, but then looking at Arthur's expression, she thought it wasn't so much fun anymore. As she had seen on certain occasions, that expression that Arthur was now wearing on his face was nothing more but the fear and hatred of magic. Yes, maybe she hadn't realized there was magic in between, but she didn't care, honestly.
She was confident Arthur wouldn't do any of the madness that characterized the prince but would let it go.
Arthur and Morgana went upstairs without a word, and so Gwen was left more alone than that man in this shed. He heard whispers in the basement, and for a moment thought of spying to find out why so much theatre and spectacle. But he quickly brazened the idea and went for a walk in the woods.
As Telvar had told them in the dinner-breakfast, there were two villages on the slopes of the valley. One buried between mountains, where it seemed that the mountains would one day strangle the village until it collapsed; and another at the exit of the valley. She thought of going to the "strangled village" (as she would now call it) when he ran into a figure.
Dawn was still peeking out of the horizon, albeit with much more light than before, but she still didn't appreciate figures like those. She thought of someone from the village, a lumberjack who was going to cut some trees or just a stray traveler.
"Excuse me!" shouted Gwen as she almost ran to the figure. She was going to ask him how long it took him to go to town (because he didn't have all day, it was supposed that an hour, at most two, and then they would go to Ealdor) when she realized that this figure didn't move.
She came even closer, turned around, and fell to the ground with a cry upon seeing him. He had a demonic and horrific face, something like a doll of those who sold in the lower town of Camelot for girls, but with big black eyes, and a large, elongated mouth full of blood. For a moment, Gwen thought of those wraiths who were desperately going at night to consume the bodies of the innocent who were going through his path and that her father counted on All Saints Eve.
Gwen began to cry when she realized that the figure was not moving, but was static, and when the dawn gave a little more light, she realized that it was a wooden doll or figure with a painted face, more to scare than to invite someone to go around, Gwen thought with a smile when she thought about it. But then she repaired one thing and the smile faded, giving way to fear and light feet running back to the shed.
When she arrived, she climbed the stairs three by three and literally ran to the door of the room, slammed it open, and entered the room. But there was no one there.
Gwen, too afraid to think accurately, came down again and came to the living room. There, with a sigh of relief from those who cause a gale, he could see Arthur and Morgana's figures, both sitting in a different armchair, apparently expecting something. They did nothing to see her come in, they just looked at her, as if it were greeting enough.
Gwen waited and listened to steps down the stairs, giving way to a bear raised on both hind legs, with some gray hair and wrinkling wherever she looks. The bear, that is Telvar, taking a minimal look at each one, said nothing and went up the stairs. Gwen had seen his eyes damp, if of sadness or anger, she did not know. The point was that the conversation between Merlin and Telvar had not gone as expected, apparently.
Gwen remembered why she was there and directly tried to speak, remembering the fear she had felt, but quickly closed her mouth, without the power of talk on her tongue. The wooden figure had been removed.
"Are you all right, Gwen?" asked Morgana, returning to herself, the charming and kind Morgana, who cared even about the weak and the poor.
Gwen didn't know what to answer but the basics.
"We must go now."
"What happened?" asked Morgana again, more and more worried. She could see Arthur also worried about her, looking at her in confusion, as if she had something written on her forehead explaining what she had seen.
"This man is not what he seems. Do you remember the story he told us yesterday before Merlin's sleep?" both nodded. "Do you remember the protagonist? The one said to have lived in a shed and through the mountains, forming figures around where he passed, which according to the story was because the character needed company?"
"You're not going to say that... " remarked Arthur, immediately interrupted by Gwen.
"Yes, Merlin wasn't joking."
Do you think that, Gwen? Do you really think Merlin was lying? Oh, poor Merlin, he didn't know that. He was just joking, but it was true his joke. Well, the next chapter will bring Arthur's perspective talking to Merlin about Telvar (the four will talk).
You will question yourself why it was supposed to be Telvar in caves in the mountains and now was in a shed. You will know. It has sense, believe me, it isn't because I just wanted to do it like that, with nonsense.
Also, stay tuned to the towns from the valley. Here will have a lot of things and action, you will see.
Tell me what you think. Is it going well? Thank you for all the people who are reading this or are adding to favorites or following this. I'm really happy :)! Thank you!
Also thank you for your comments and reviews.
Merille Marc: I'm sorry if I don't answer your comments. I simply can't, I don't know why. Anyway, thank you!
Next Chapter: Arthur's perspective. Confess, Merlin, who this man is? How did you meet?
