Vera was pushed up against the bookcase struggling to take a breath between Hamish's kisses. With his arm wrapped around her Hamish lifted her off the ground, one of her heels slipping off as she rested her hands on his shoulders. "Hamish. I'm not, I'm here…"

"Vera, this is the first time in 4 months I've had you to myself." He kissed her neck feeling a spike of excitement to have her alone in the reliquary for once.

"Hamish, I'm here to make sure you selected the students for this year's trials." She pushed him back trying to get him to focus. "It's your first time."

"Worried my judgment isn't up to your standards?" He took a step back from her, she wasn't being any fun right now. All work and no play. Kissing her playfully Hamish walked over to the desk where he had all the letters lined up with the blue roses. Honestly it was a bit fun but selecting them meant nothing. It was up to the students to make it in. "We have a legacy this year so she's on the list, outstanding academic performance, outstanding academic performance, he was president of his debate club, took first in the national science fair, and helps the homeless on the weekends, good kid. Another academic all star and this one kind of reminds me of you."

"Is she pretty and smart?"

"No, she's an overachiever and a workaholic." He finally got the last one, "And this one I picked because you'd have picked him. Another townie. Smart kid, good kid, has a lot of potential."

"Sneaking in an underdog I see, that's a very risky move." She joked knowing damn well she was to blame for Jack Morton.

Hamish started to stack all the papers up onto the corner of his desk and laid down the roses in a bundle. "I'm happy with my choices for this year, are you?"

Vera put her hands on his shoulders and smiled, "I'm proud of you, last year when I named you for temple Magus I wasn't making some blind leap of faith or picking you because I'm emotionally close to you. I actually have a great deal of faith in your abilities and leadership skills. You'll just have to prove it to the gnostic council which I think you can manage."

"Vera." Hamish wrapped his arms around her. "Did you just compliment me and tell me I was doing a good job?" She was such an incredible person, she'd had to let go of things that made her uncomfortable like giving up her position as Temple Magus for the job of being a mother. It was a hard trade for her but she had someone on her side, she needed someone on her side. Hamish kissed her on the lips again. "Vera, would it be rude to say I want to get some work done on my desk right now."

"I can go if you need to get back to…"

Hamish Picked her up and set her down on the desk with a little smirk, "Vera, you are the work I need to do on the desk."

"Oh." She leaned into him and kissed him, running her fingers through his hair.

"Wait, do you need to get back to Theo or the administrator's office?"

"No, Gabrielle and Randal have Theo right now and I did my meetings this morning."

"Good." He pushed her down on the desk and grabbed one of her legs holding it at his side as he kissed her down her neck and onto her shoulder.

"Oh, okay we are really doing this?" Vera asked scooting around under him a little as he triggered her more ticklish nature.

Hamish stopped looking back at her, "Do you not want to? If you don't want to we can stop."

"No, it's fine I just wasn't sure."

Hamish undid his tie and leaned over her again. "It's been seven months Vera, I really really miss this."

"I know." She felt a little guilty because she hadn't been in much of a mood. Mostly due to being tired and also after having a baby she hadn't felt physically well.

"You are so beautiful Vera." Hamish kissed her down to her stomach and unzipped her pants. "Do you even remember how to do this?" Hamish laughed kissing the inside of her thigh.

"I don't know, maybe I need a…" Vera flinched feeling his fingers slip under her underwear. "Oh." Hamish tried not to laugh at her cute little reaction. He got up on the table again watching her flinch and squirm. Her expressions were too cute, her sharp breaths and little gasps along with the little flutter of her eyelids.

"You okay Vera?" She leaned her head back trying to nod yes. Hamish smirked, "I love you Vera."

She groaned holding her hand up to her mouth, "I can tell." Slipping his hand out from her underwear Hamish slipped her pants down from her hips as Vera sat up and unbuttoned his shirt. She pressed her lips into his making Hamish pause for a moment and resting his hands on her sides. Vera pulled down on Hamish's pants as he pulled her up onto his lap. "Hamish." Vera sounded a bit breathy as he pulled her down onto him.

"Yes Vera?" Vera rocked her hips into him making him tighten his grip on her sides.

"Marry me."

Hamish felt like he'd been hit in the head, "Well, Vera, I didn't think it was that good, we are both a bit rusty I get that but…"

"I'm being serious."

Well she picked an interesting time to bring this up, it wasn't surprising really, when did Vera ever pick a convenient time to do anything? She decided the best time to get pregnant was only three months after they had started sleeping together, she decided to not keep the baby when he was already struggling with the wolves falling apart around him, she decided to piss off his mother ON Christmas, and then she decided or really it just so happened she had Theo early so he could panic over it. Now she was just out of nowhere asking him to marry her, while they were getting freaky, on their desk. "Why?"

Vera kissed him, Hamish's hand moving into the middle of her back. "I love you."

"I know but you don't believe in marriage."

Vera kissed him again, "I don't."

"This makes sense."

"But, I think I want to spend my life with you."

"Think?"

"Okay, I know I'm going to spend my life with you." Hamish smiled at her and kissed her back.

There was something about just not bothering Vera about something, she had to make up her own mind, if she felt like you were in charge of her life then you would get nothing but resistance from her. "I told you Vera Duke was a pretty name." This was not how he expected their engagement to go, he was going to have to do better than this. No, Hamish couldn't have this moment just be this in her memory forever, he wanted it to be the most...maybe not, the second most magical day of her life.
