All Nightmare Long
Chapter 468
Author's Note: I plan to show Negan and the warrior's finding out at the outpost before Dwight corners them and kills Denise. I have to get our people to where they need to be first. And they are just not talking to me. Well Jes is, so let's go check on her first. Please review, it keeps me motivated.
Jes, Joey, and Summer's POV:
Jes kept Summer and Joey's in her peripheral vision while she moved around the front of the house and looked through open doors. "I count nineteen used cots in four rooms, so where are the seven others?" she asked as she crossed her arms and looked at Garza.
"You don't miss anything, do you?" Garza asked.
"It's what made me top of the class. Where are the seven other people?" Jes questioned.
"Four are at the fort, two are on a supply run and we lost one recently," Garza explained.
"Garza, you don't need to be telling civilians our workings," Shaw ordered as he walked over to them.
"Civilians?" Summer asked as she glanced at Jes.
"Yes, civilians, someone whose never served a day in there life. And I don't know this one, but since she's with you two, I could guess she deserted her duty station," Shaw barked.
"Don't talk to her like that, you don't know anything about her, or anything about us," Joey warned as he stood up.
"Sit back down kid," Harris warned him as he stood in front of him.
"It's OK, Joey, I've got this," Jes said as she looked at Shaw. "In case you haven't noticed, you have civilians in here. Guess because most of them have some sort of experience in law enforcement, you deemed them worthy is that it?"
"Like the kid said, you don't know me," Shaw informed her as he lit up a cigar.
"Oh, I don't need to actually know you, but I know the type of man you are. If you haven't figured it out, there are no civilians or soldiers any more Shaw, we're all the same," Jes told him.
"Jes, you may want to," Garza started to say.
"Shut up, Garza. This is between Shaw and me. Yes, I deserted, I bet a lot of your men did too, right? Wanted to get home to families? Most people were smart enough to figure out we were fighting a losing battle. I don't appreciate you talking to Summer and Joey that way, they are just as capable as any man or woman I have ever trained," Jes said as she took a step closer to him.
"Beck of Lt. Sanchez," Shaw warned.
"I don't take orders from you,Shaw. There are no ranks anymore. Every one that has made it this far, is a soldier," Sanchez said
"It works for us, and you're in our house now," Lawson pointed out.
"We will leave, we won't tell anyone that you are here, you can keep living in your own little world," Summer told him.
"Nolen, let them go, they didn't know we were here," Malilia suggested.
"Not until we find out who this Negan is and why they are willing to desecrate a cemetery," Shaw snapped.
"We need to be prepared, just the same as you," Garza told Sanchez.
Summer stood up. "I'll tell you, I am the only one that has actually seen him," she said as she approached Shaw. "You let us leave, with our weapons, after."
"We'll give you some of them, you don't need all of them," Shaw told her as he blew smoke from his cigar in her face.
"All of them. We were the ones that worked for them. We were the ones out there, risking our lives. You are living in and around a Fort. You don't look like you are are suffering for any weapons," Summer said as she looked at him. Summer glanced over to the area where the dogs were kept. "And we'll take one of the younger dogs, and K-9 over there will teach me commands," Summer told him.
Shaw let out a laugh. "Now why would I do that, little girl?"
"Because any other way isn't going to end good for you," Joey said.
Shaw turned to Jes. "What is she talking about?"
Jes shrugged. "She can speak for herself," she said.
"We can all sit down and talk about this, we're all on the same side," Garza offered.
Shaw turned and looked at Summer. "Explain."
"My mother knows where we are, if we aren't back when she is expecting us, she's going to come looking for us, for me. And I wouldn't want to be the person to tell her that something happened to her daughter, n=and put that on top of something happening to two other members of her family. Your friends can bury you over in the cemetery that is if she leaves anything to be buried,"Summer warned.
"She's not exaggerating," Jes told him.
"Even if you let us walk out of here without everything we came in with, you won't be getting any information about Negan, or what he is capable of. And believe me, you won't be prepared, we weren't prepared. So, you can get that nasty cigar out of my face, sit down, and we can share information so that maybe we can both save lives, or you can act like an idiot and see some of these people die. What kind of leader would that make you if you didn't prepare for a possible battle?"
K-9 looked at Joey. "Does she have a boyfriend?"
Joey glared at him. "Yes she does, it's me," he hissed.
Jes crossed her arms and looked at Shaw. "Her mother makes Patton look like a pomeranian puppy."
"I think we can all agree that they didn't mean to intrude, Shaw. Sounds like they were trying to prepare for a threat and that they are just trying to get ahead of the danger," Palmer offered.
"It's something you would do, something you have done," Garza told him.
"It's a smart play,, and you know it," Malila told him.
Jes looked at him. "A good leader listens to suggestions and your people are suggesting that you listen to us," she said.
"I don't like threats," Shaw told her as he turned his attention back to Summer. "And especially not an idle threat about a mother coming and tearing me apart."
Summer smirked. "Yeah keep thinking that it was just an idle threat. People have made that mistake before, and they aren't alive anymore."
"What harm is it if we just listen to them?" Vieta questioned.
"Come on Shaw, it isn't going to hurt for us to listen, it may give us a tactical advantage," Garza said.
Beth, Rosita and Daryl's POV:
Beth watched as Spenser left Rosita and walked over to her. "So you and SPenser?"
"There is no Spenser and me," Rosita said.
"Is it like a rebound thing?" Beth asked.
Rosita looked at her. "No, it's nothing like that, Beth," Rosita said as they got to the infirmary.
Denise came out. "I didn't hear anything you two were talking about," she assured her.
"Good," Rosita said. "Today's lesson will be in the culda sac," she told her.
"Actually can we do something else?" Denise asked.
Beth looked at Denise then Rosita. "What do you have in mind?"
Denise closed the infirmary door and walked out to the porch with them, seeing Daryl working on his bike. "Come on, I'll explain."
Rosita and Beth shared a look as they walked across the street. "This is going to be interesting," Beth commented.
"Daryl?" Denise questioned.
Daryl looked up and stood up. "Yeah?"
"After I got out of DC, I just drove. I remember seeing it right when I realized I had no idea where I was going. Edison's Apathacary and boutique. It's just this little gift shop in a strip mall but if it's really an apathacary, they had drugs," Denise explained.
"How do you know they still got them?" Daryl questioned.
"It isn't that far, I just want to check. And you , Rosita and Beth aren't out scavenging or pulling shifts," Denise explained.
"We'll go,"Daryl said.
"I wanted to check, I just wanted to help," Denise told them.
"You are helping, you're the doctor," Beth assured her.
"How much time have you spent out there?" Daryl questioned.
"None," Denise admitted.
"Forget it," Daryl told her.
"I can ID the meds. I know how to usea machete now, I've seen roamers up close. "I'm ready," Denise assured them.
"You good with this?" Daryl asked Rosita and Beth.
No," Rosita said.
Beth sighed. Ihad to learn somehow, so does she," Beth said.
"I'll go alone if I have too," Denise told them.
"You'll die alone," Daryl told her.
"I'm asking you to make sure I don't," Denise told them.
Daryl looked at Roista. "I'm not baby sitting her by myself," Rosita answered.
"You won't have too, I'll go," Beth said.
Daryl nodded. "I'll go with you."
