Rin and Sesshomaru stared at each other for a couple minutes when she asked about her choices. He stayed silent, and she was getting tired enough of just standing and waiting.
She had done her waiting. Always waiting for him, to hear from him, to see him, to hear his name in a story Kagome told her. Rin was tired of waiting for answers she would never get, so she closed her eyes, shutting off her brain for a moment as she turned away from him. Sesshomaru watched her walk farther and farther away from him. He had no answers for her. He didn't know what other choices she would have, maybe there would be a batter human to come for her. Maybe while he had loved and expected so much from her, she wanted someone else. Or something else.
A human would be her perfect match. Someone who might keep her safe always, not a Demon who might put her in harms way every time she ventures for food. He got a last look at her before he sent himself away. High in the clouds, heading home. Once he landed there, he could hear Jacken. He was fretting about a small stain, and as Sesshomaru walked through he seemed beside himself with asking where Rin was, if she was waiting outside, if she was looking for him, if she was heading here herself, if she was late, if she wasn't here at all.
"She does not wish to come home, but go to her Jaken. See her as long as you like. I will remain here." He told the little demon and Jaken was worried about leaving him, but he stayed silent until his fretting was done. "See her Jaken. See if she will come back with you rather than staying away from me."
"Yes Lord Sesshomaru." He bowed and before too long he was on the back of Oh and Ah and heading her way. He would wait here, see what his servant would do for him when it came to his mate. He just hoped she would be home soon. Where she belonged.
Rin stood there, after hearing him take off. She stood there knowing he would rather leave than to talk like people. But then... he wasn't a person. He was a demon who always got what he want, he must have realized she wasn't worth fighting for. She went back to the hut, sat and heard more about Songo and her brother reuniting. He had been traveling the world as well. Seeing what he must. She heard of her and Myroku's wedding. About how they wanted babies. She added in that Kagome and InuYasha might be getting married soon as well.
Rin was almost tired of seeing the happiness around her, so instead of getting sick of it, she moved right to the exit of the hut and went on a walk. She could tell that he wasn't around, that he wasn't waiting on her any longer.
But she was surprised to see a familiar creature coming her way. She moved to the hill quickly as Oh and Ah got closer and she could hear Master Jaken talking about how he was so excited to see her, that he couldn't wait to hear about her stories.
"Master Jaken." He hadn't seemed to recognize her as he said he would find her in the village and almost rode right past her.
"Rin? Is that you? All grown up." He made his large jump down to the ground and looked at her fully.
"It's me Master Jaken, all grown up. How have you been all these years without me?" I asked and he started talking about all the walking, the traveling, the fighting.
"But even doing normal things like that, like what we did before you were around, it was not the same. It was not better young Rin. It was hard."
"Hard? Did demons come for you instead of you finding them in the way?" I asked him and he shook his head and his hands at me right away.
"No no Rin, it was hard because Lord Sesshomaru did not have a heart any longer. He cut down anyone who would no move for five years. He traveled these lands waiting for you to return, he did not think it would take so long." He shook his finger at me like it was my fault.
"Now Master Jaken, you know he sent me away without a second thought to what I wanted. I would have been pleased to stay here, to live here, but he made Ms. Kagome take me to the future, made me stay there until I could properly defend myself." He huffed like I was only rehashing what has been said many times.
This time... he stayed a bit quiet and Rin crouched down so she was more at his level. She almost missed being a little girl. "Now, Master Jaken, tell me what you have been doing with your free time."
"Free time? I have been fussing over your rooms. I have been preparing to have food for you for weeks before I got the terrible news that you would not come. I was so disappointed when Lord Sesshomaru came home and told me you would not return. I left all your presents behind. I wished to see you open them, but if you are to stay here maybe one day I can bring them back for you." He kept jabbing on and Rin had to admit she wanted to see all he had prepare for her.
She wanted to see him happy, to see all of Jakens hard work. If he kept pestering her about it she would eventually cave in. She didn't like disappointing him, and he really could nag her about things. Rin listened to him for hours. She had made her own little fire outside as he talked about their adventures. She fell asleep like she did as a child. Hearing him talk, warmed by only the fire, feeling protected even in her sleep.
Her choice to leave this life was taken from her before... and now in the morning she made up her mind to make her own. To make her own life. To make her own choices. She was a woman, and she was going to be deciding what was best for herself. Even if that might look like doing something for other people.
