Aang's Prologue
Aang was enjoying a game air-ball with his other air bending buddies when he spotted his mentor Gyatso and the head monks of the Southern Air Temple approach him. "Aang we need to tell you something important, come with us" Gyatso ushered Aang come with him.
"Ok" Aang said with a nervous smile. "Shit did they did they find out what I did yesterday". He put his thoughts to the side and jumped of the pillar he was standing on and used his airbending to cushion his fall. Aang walked up to the now retreating monks "what do you need to talk to about?" Aang said to Gyatso hoping it wasn't about what he did yesterday.
"All will be told in the council room, young one" Gyatso said with a serious manner. Aang was getting more nervous after hearing his usually laid back and fun-loving mentor getting all serious. "The only time he gets serious with me is when their it something important is happening or when he disappointed in me, Fuck it's probably the second one". Aang thought to himself. Aang and the other monks reach the main hall and sit in their respective seats while he sat down in lotus position facing towards them.
The older monks look each over and nodded signalling that they were ready tell the young airbender his future "Aang do you know why we summoned you" one of the head monks said emotionlessly. Aang's body stiffened, "they know I am screwed"
"Aang yo-"
"I'm the one that put the possum-skunk underneath monk Xing's bed!" Aang blurted out cutting off Gyatso. The other monks in the room had surprised and confused looks on their faces of what the young Airbenders just told them. Aang looked to see his mentor trying to hold back from giggling from what he just said. "No-no Aang that not what were here to talk about, but we will talk about your little prank later". Aang cheeks started burning bright red from the embarrassment he was feeling.
Gyatso's face went back to a serious look and went back to what he was originally going to say. "Aang you are aware what the avatar is" Aang gave confused look to Gyatso, "Yes" was Aang could say.
"Aang you are the Avatar" After hearing this Aang's body felt numb and suddenly felt distance like he was in trapped in the world of his thoughts "no can't be the avatar, I don't want to be" the airbender pulled himself out of his thoughts of denial and spoke "h-how can you know it's me? you must be making a mistake" Aang said wishing his words were true, but he knew they weren't.
"Aang I know this is hard for you to understand but we have known it was you since you were at the young age of five" head monk Shiatsu informed the avatar. "But how can you know it me" the young air nomad questioned the older monks. "we thought you might ask that question" then Shiatsu pulled out something wrapped in clean white cloth out of his robes and air bended it towards Aang landing right in front of him, the cloth unfolded itself revealing Aangs' early childhood toys.
The newly found Avatar looked at the relics from his early years of his life "how do my old toys tell you I'm the avatar".
"these toys represented the past avatars and you young one chose them amongst thousands of others" Shiatsu told the young avatar. Aang who was still in disbelief of what he had been told, was struggling to come to accept the fact that he was the avatar. "Shit why did it have to be me, why can I just live normal life" Aang was pulled out of his thoughts when he heard Gyatso call his name in a soft voice. "Aang" the young Airbender looked to face his mentor "I am sorry young one I know you didn't want this, but it is your destiny to keep balance to the four nations" Gyatso's ended his short speech for it to be continued by Abbot monk Rotsu "listen young avatar we have been seeing troubling signs, that a storm is coming, so your training will begin immediately" After hearing the monks words, Aang led out an audible sigh "maybe it won't be that bad" Aang thought to himself trying to be optimistic about his current situation. Unaware of how wrong he was.
…..…..…..…..…..…..…..…..…..…..…..
The announcement of Aang being the avatar was spreading like wildfire through The Southern Air Temple. This affected the young airbender's social making everyone in the air temple treat him like he was royalty and the tall goofy kid with a bubbly personality that they grew to know. Thus, leading to being excluded from any games air-ball because he had 'an unfair advantage'
In the next couple months, the young airbender's life was consisted of intense airbending training and monks just kept saying the same thing. "Aang you need to accept your role and that your life will be different from a normal person's life". The only person who was stopping Aang from falling into a depression was Gyatso who always managed to put a smile on his face, the one who would always cheat in a game of pai sho with him. Unfortunately, Aangs time would be cut short because Aang needed to train despite already mastering air bending at the age twelve.
….
Aang burst right into his room and leant his back against the now closed door, waves of panicked started to fill his mind after overhearing the head monks talking about transferring him to the Northern Air Temple. Aang unconsciously started packing belongings which didn't take long since Air Nomads don't own many earthly attachments. Soon the air nomad had everything he needed for his 'short' journey. "I just need get away from here for a bit… but where do I go, fuck maybe I can go stay with Kuzon in the Fire Nation" with his plan in play he quickly wrote a letter saying that he was going to be leaving for a month or two.
Aang swiftly bolted out of his room and used his air bending to quickly and quietly sneak to the sky bison stables, once he reached the stables doors, he opened the heavy wooden doors a quietly as possible trying not to wake up the sleeping bison. Aang reached Appa who was fast asleep when the bison was suddenly woken up by his master. Appa gave tired grunt to his master, Aang knowing what he meant explained to him what was happening "shhhhhh I know your tired buddy, but we have leave now" Aang whispered to the 10-ton beast. Aang grabbed Appa's reigns leading him outside of the stables into the night sky that was covered by storm clouds. Aang air bended himself onto Appa's furry neck and pulled on Appa's reigns while saying "Yip-Yip" making Appa's tail start to flap creating a huge gust of wind as the 10-ton beast became airborne. Aang guided Appa towards the fire nation while taking one more look at the southern air temple
"I will come back Gyatso I promise"
….
Katara walked down the pristine halls of the southern water empire palace that were filled with expensive furniture and paintings and katara was wondering why her father had wanted her to meet him his throne room. Katara was praying to the spirits hoping her father wasn't going put more restrictions on her life.
Ever Since katara mother died when she was 12, ever since Katara father Hakoda the chief of the Southern water empire had put orders the she has to be guarded twenty-four seven and had restriction on what she could and were she could go. Katara was thought this was unfair because her Brother Sokka was able to do whatever he wanted. What frustrated katara even more is that she wasn't allowed to be taught any kind of water bending but that didn't stop the princess from practicing with icicles outside out on her balcony.
Ever since Katara's mother died she started feeling depressed and closed herself of from everyone else, just the thought of her mom made tears swell in her eyes. All the palace staff would always give her looks of pity knowing exactly why she was depressed.
Katara walked into the throne room. The room that was filled with paintings and patterns that ran across the wall, with high ceiling that were supported by pillars that held everything together, all of this was finished with the main part of the room the throne that was a glamorous gold and had a huge waterfall the went down behind the main throne. (I am not the best at explaining shit so bear with me) Katara looked at her father sitting down his thrown and then glanced at her brother was standing up next to her father. They both appeared to be in a deep conversation with other, the young water bender couldn't make out what they were saying except for "…are you sure…" and "…this needs to be done…". Katara decided she needed to make her presence noticed by clearing her throat, this immediately pulled both of the royal family members out of their conversation.
The room fell quiet for a few seconds before Katara decided to speak. "You called me father". Hakoda looked at her daughter, the chief was hesitant knowing the state that katara has been in the last few years about what he but knowing it was best for the empire.
Hakoda finally decided to speak. "Katara made arrangements for you" the chief said in the gentlest tone he could knowing that his daughter would probably not except this.
"What kind arrangements?" Katara spoke suspicious of what these arrangements were.
"I have set you and a noble from the northern water empire up for marriage". Katara was in shock after hearing these words, of course she knew that this would eventually here those words. But after hearing these she felt mixed emotions but mainly anger.
"WHAT!" the water bender could be heard throughout the Palace. She saw both her father and brother wince. The now angered princess gave both glares while she waited for them to speak and to her surprise Sokka was the first one to speak.
"Katara you know that this has been a tradition in are empire for thousands of year" Sokka tried to put some sense into her sister but had showed no a affect, showing that Katara was fuming with anger.
"DON'T YOU DARE TELL ME ABOUT ARE FUCKING STUPID TRADITIONS SOKKA!". Katara screamed at her brother giving him a frightful look. All the ice in the room started to crack due to Katara anger and not being able to control her water bending.
"Katara please you have to understand that we are doing this for your own good" Hakoda tried to reassure the raging Katara. Katara slowed breathing down and relaxing her body she started to wonder who her soon to be husband was.
"who" Katara said in low voice while she looked at the floor in front.
Hakoda now relieved that her daughter had finally calmed and decided it was better for her to know who she was going to be betrothed to. "You will be marrying Solum and he is chief Arnooks nephew and you met him once"
Katara stopped listening after hearing the name Solum, that name brought horrible memories back memories that the water bender refused to remember.
Before any other word could be slipped out, Katara spun around hiding her face that was now had tears trickling down the young women's sides and sprinted out of the throne room. Leaving the other two shocked at her sudden action. Sokka was about to follow his sister until he was stopped by Hakoda, the prince gave his father a confused look.
"Leave her" Hakoda ordered the ponytailed warrior.
"But didn't see her dad she needs our help" Sokka said while trying to escape his father's grip.
The chief grew frustrated at his son disobeying him "I SAID LEAVE HER!" Sokka was shocked at his dads raise in voice and then sighed in defeat, succumbing into the older man's orders.
Katara threw herself on her king-size bed and preceded to bury her face into the lavish pillows muffling the sobs that were coming from the young water benders face. After hours of crying, Katara got off her bed still trying to stifle back her tears as she walked on to her balcony. The arctic winds of the South Pole touched her skin but living in the South Pole her life gave her immunity from the cold. Looked at the bustling capital city in the distance then looked at the sky that would soon turn dark. "Mum what I'm scared what do I do? The young women whispered hoping something would happen but to her disappointment everything remained the same. Katara slumped back into her room, the water bender sighed their was nothing she could do about it decided it was time to go to Bed she slipped out her clothes and replaced them with a baby blue night gown and climbed into bed and fell into an immediate nightmare.
….
Katara felt strange hands moving up her body and stopping at her breast, Katara fear raised as the hands started to squeeze her clothed breast, Katara tried to fight back but to no avail, the hands stayed firmly where they were. Streams of tears appeared on the water benders face as she begged for the man to stop. "PLEASE STOP" Katara cried out, but the man didn't stop.
"Shhhh you will love me after were finished" the man's whispered in a soft yet creepy voice. Katara's victor showed his face revealing two blue orbs. Katara thought her fears couldn't get yet it doubled as she realized who it was "Solum" katara said with fear in her voice".
Solum smiled "that's right my love" The deluded man was about rip off his 'lovers' when a large gust blew the water tribe man off Katara's body and falling unconcise after smacking his head into the ground with a deafening thud. Katara looked to see what knocked her worst fear off her there was nothing around except for two light Gray orbs that were eyes looking at her not a predatory way but in a caring way. A deep youth Voice was heard that the water bender could only assumed belonged to the owner of the unique eyes. "Katara you need to leave the south pole and go to the fire nation that is were your destiny lies".
…..
Katara was pulled out her dream and brought back to reality making her jump out of her bed and without thinking grabbed a small satchel and started filling it with extra clothes, but before she could continue, she stopped herself. "what am I doing?" Katara thought to herself, then memories of the dream came back of how real it felt and that she felt the she needed follow to mysterious man's voice. The water bender unconsciously started to go back to her packing not knowing exactly how she was going to get to the fire nation let alone escaping the palace. After packing everything the she fought was essential she open the door to the balcony and looked down, knowing that her room was on the fourth floor of the palace it was at least 10 metres from the ground, but fortunately for katara the southern capital had a blizzard couple days ago. Now there was 2 metres of fresh powder on the palace grounds. Katara used what little skills she had in her water bending to form a small mountain of soft snow. With one deep breath katara leaped off the balcony and landed softly in man-made pile of snow.
"Fuck me I am not doing that again" Katara muttered to herself as she got to the outskirts of the palace reaching the walls.
"Spirits how am I going to get across this?" the teenager questioned herself as she looked up the white stoned walls that stood 4 metres tall. Katara remembered watching other water benders use water to lift themselves up, she would always study master water benders very closely on how they preformed each move so she could practice the same moves in secret but because there was no one their to help point out her mistakes she would never get the form fully right.
The blue eyed teen focused her breathing started to concentrate all the water below her feet creating a vortex, Katara lifted her hands making the water below her start to push against gravity and started to lift the teen above the ground and she now was above and over the palaces walls and managed land on the side of the wall with a some-what smooth landing. Katara who still couldn't believe what she had just did, started to run towards the city's harbour hoping she could sneak on a cargo ship that was going to land that was controlled by water empire in the earth kingdom.
Katara looked back at the palace she called home with a pang of guilt knowing that she was running away from family. "Please forgive dad, I just need to find myself"
