All Nightmare Long
Chapter 484
Author's Note: Jewel and Rick (Jicks) needs their own chapter before all the crap happens. Not sure how long it will be, but our OTP is in a car together. And I wholeheartedly believe in mother's intuition. I am a mother and knew when my son broke his arm. Please review.
Jewel glanced out of the window then at Rick as he held her hand as he drove. "Morgan was right, we started something."
"You were right too, when you said we finish it, we always do," Rick assured her as he kissed her hand.
"We always finished it because someone else started it. Do you remember how pissed off we were when the Governor attacked and killed some people. Then he did it again and we lost the prison. Now we are the ones who made the first move, and they are getting ready," Jewel warned him.
"They made the first move when they stopped Jes, Abraham, Sasha and Daryl on the road. They made the second move when this Negan left four people to take Summer back to his compound," Rick reminded him. "And yesterday, his people attacked again, and killed Denise."
"They were close, those savior's, to Alexandria. They are closing in," Jewel told him.
"That's why we are going home, getting ready," Rick told her. "Jes will have found Summer and Joey and brought them back and you can yell at her for being reckless."
"Can I yell at Daryl and the others too? Taking off like that, when this is going on," Jewel said.
"You can do whatever makes you feel better, Mrs. Grimes," Rick told her as he kissed her hand again. "We'll be OK."
"I know, Mr. Grimes," Jewel told him.
"You don't sound very convincing," Rick told her.
"Something's wrong, I can feel it," Jewel told him as she looked at him. "Mother's intuition. Didn't Lori ever know when something was wrong with Carl?"
"You knew Lori, what do you think?" Rick asked.
Jewel sighed. "You're right. When Summer was seven, I was working at the clinic, and I had a night shift at the hospital later. It was 3PM and I was working with a patient and all of a sudden I felt this pain in my chest and I knew something was wrong with her. A half an hour later, she came in, with scratches and a broken arm. Merle had picked her up, drunk or high, crashed his motorcycle and my child knew to come find me. She knew where I was and it wasn't far from the clinic since that's where they were going. But I knew she was hurt and she was. I mean I know with the world the way it is, I should be having those feelings 24-7, but she hasn't really been hurt or injured. I'm telling you something's happened," she told him.
"Do you want to go look for her? We can," Rick told her.
"I don't know if it's Summer though, it was easier with only one kid," Jewel said. "We can't leave Alexandria anymore vulnerable then it is. If Carl, Hope, Mika and Judy are ok, and if they aren't back, we'll make plans to go out. But we need to wait for Glenn, Michonne, Rosita, Beth and Daryl to return. We can't have all our heavy hitters out at one time. Not when the savior's that close."
"It's killing you to say that, isn't it?" Rick asked as he squeezed her hand.
"I'm not only a mother, Rick, just like you aren't just a father. We have responsibility to everyone in Alexandria, and half of them aren't prepared for what's coming. I'm not even sure we are. I mean from what Summer saw, and Daryl and the other's, and how many people you all took out at the outpost, they're like cockroaches. You kill one and five more come out of the woodwork," Jewel murmured.
"Are you still with me?" Rick questioned.
Jewel looked at him. "Yes," she answered as she kissed his cheek. "I may be having my doubts, but I am still with you, always have, always will."
Rick let out a breath he didn't know he was holding. "I am so glad to hear you say that," he told her.
"Rick, just because I'm having second thoughts, it doesn't mean that I am not with you. Can you seriously say that if you knew what we know now, you wouldn't have handled this differently? Because I know I sure would. We had just came out of a major adrenaline rush with winning against the Wolves and the walkers', we were confident. Summer tried to reason with us," Jewel stated.
"At times, I still see her as that fifteen year old from camp," Rick told her.
"I know, I see her as my baby," Jewel admitted. "But we both know that she is smart, and that if she feels strongly about it, enough to argue with us, we should have made a better effort to listen. I think we both knew that, but I think we both felt like we needed to do it. And Quinn agreed with us. But Morgan was right, I didn't go because something in me told me it was wrong. I didn't want to be part of the killing. I think I know what Carol feels like, maybe not as much but a little. But I'm just as responsible for those deaths as you are. And, knowing how close those savior's were from Alexandria, if Carol hadn't left, then they might have been there already. So once again, she saved us. We can't thank that woman enough," she told him.
"No we can't, that's why we were out there," Rick told her. "Cockroaches huh?" he asked with a slight laugh.
"Oh come on, you're from Georgia. You see one and you know there's about a hundred more you can't see. You shut out the light, and then they all come out. You get rid of one, there's more. That's how I'm feeling about these savior's," Jewel told him.
Rick laughed as Abraham opened the gate for them. "I love you Mrs. Grimes."
"I love you Mr. Grimes," she told him.
