Chapter 491
Author's Note: The least I can do is get to the line up before season 9 starts huh? I am not looking forward to writing the first half of season 7. Then Carl's death. I may end it when Rick 'dies' but have him live and they get there happy ending. I'm not sure yet. Please review.
Sasha, Lexi and Abraham POV:
Sasha looked at Lexi and gave a small, tired smile. "I'm not looking down on you that much now a days," she told her younger sister. "You don't have to do this. Eugene can handle it on his own," she told her.
"He can, but he doesn't have to. You're all needed to get Maggie to the Hilltop. We don't do things alone, and Eugene is one of us," Lexi told her.
"He sure the hell is," Abraham agreed. "You stay in front with him, you two rely on each other, protect each other. I expect you both to come back alive and all limbs attached. Got it?"
Lexi nodded. "I got it. Same goes to all of you," she told them.
Sasha hugged her. "I don't like you doing this but I know why you have too. I'm proud of you, Ty would be too."
"I think that's the first time you've mentioned Ty in a while," Lexi told Sasha.
"Repeat the plan," Abraham told her.
"Abraham, I know the plan. I could tell you the plan backwards and forwards. I'm not driving, Eugene is. My job is to watch Eugene's back," Lexi told him.
"You know what that means?" Abraham asked.
"By any means necessary. I got it, I got two guns, I got knives, and one in my boot, Eugene has a gun and a hatchet. We aren't going to stop, we make them think that they have us just where they want us. You get Maggie to the Hilltop, that's your job," Lexi said. "I'll kill them if need be, to keep Eugene safe, to make sure that you all have a chance, I won't hesitate."
"Let's hope it doesn't come to that," Sasha said.
"But it might, and I'm ready," Lexi said. "Time to go," she said.
Abraham looked after her. "She's a strong kid."
"She's not a kid, hasn't been in a long time," Sasha said sadly.
Eugene, Jewel and Rick's POV:
Rick and Jewel walked over to Eugene as Rick carried the empty gas can. "That's the last of it. If you see a car try to syphon the gas, other than that, you keep moving," Rick told him.
"I'll have them thinking that we're playing there game. All phases of the turn, level after level, move after move. I'll keep them spinning, I assure you I will," Eugene said.
"You've got Lexi with you, she's a good shot, she'll keep an eye out," Jewel told him.
"I'd rather go alone, put no one else at risk," Eugene said.
"Well that's not going to happen," Jewel simply said.
"I got something for you," Eugene said as he pulled something out of his pocket. It's a recipe, it aint gisaspho. How to build bullets 101, Abraham can show you where just in case," he told Rick as he handed him the paper.
Rick and Jewel looked at each other than Rick looked at Eugene. "Thank you," he said. "For this, for all of it. We're lucky you're here," Rick said.
"I won't argue with that," Eugene said.
Jewel gave a small laugh and hugged him. "Keep safe, keep Lexi safe. I want you both back," she said as he hugged her back.
"I will do my very best," Eugene said as Rick clasped his shoulder and he walked away with Jewel.
Abraham walked over. "Lexi is getting ready. You go steady on the peddle. You don't make that thing go," he said as he pointed his finger at Abraham.
"How come you never let me drive the truck?" Eugene asked.
"I didn't think you could do it," Abraham answered. "I was wrong. You're a survivor, you always were, we just didn't know it," he told the other man. "Me and you both," he said as he held out his hand.
Eugene didn't say anything before reaching out and hugging him, and Abraham hugged him back. Eugene pulled back and gave a nod before Abraham walked away.
"You ready?" Lexi questioned.
"I am, are you?" Eugene asked.
"I am," Lexi responded as her and Eugene walked over to Maggie being carried on a stretcher.
Maggie looked at them. "Thank you," she said.
Eugene nodded as Lexi bent down and kissed the top of her head. "You know Alexandra Eugenia is a good name for a girl," she teased with a small smile. She nodded at Rick before she went to the RV, Eugene doing the same.
Eugene sat down and looked at the group before starting up the RV. He and Lexi exchanged glances before starting to leave.
Maggie group POV:
The sound of a walker growling coming toward the group with a tree branch coming out of its stomach as Carl runs at it cutting him down with an ax.
"Aaron please, just let me walk," Maggie said softly from the makeshift gurney.
"Just relax, just a few more miles," Aaron said.
Jewel gave her a small smile. "Now you know how I felt when all of you made me stay put when I was pregnant with Hope. I'll keep you company and bring you peanut butter, it's just fair payback," she said as she looked around nervously.
"I heard what you told her, when we were leaving," Carl said. "We can do anything, so we'll do anything we need to do. We have and we will," he said. "What happened to Denise, I'm not going to let anybody die like that again," he said.
"Son," Rick started to say.
"Carl, you're not going to do anything stupid. I've already got one kid out there that I can't stop thinking about what's happening to her. Or Daryl, or Michonne. You are here, and you are going to do exactly what we say," Jewel said as she started hearing one whistle then another.
The group looked around and saw people coming closer.
"Go!" Rick barked. "Go!"
"Carl back beside me now!" Jewel yelled as they started running. Carl bent down and went through a clearing with the rest of them as head lights blinded them. "Hell's Bell's," she said softly.
The group turned in several directions being cut off and surrounded, the RV being parked in front of them.
Jewel closed her eyes and took several breaths to calm herself down and block the whistling. "Cockroaches," she mumbled. She looked at Rick who looked as terrified as she felt.
Rick looked over seeing Eugene and Lexi both being on there knees, Eugene looking like he had been beat up.
"Good, you made it," the man from the road said. "Welcome to where you're going. We'll take your weapons. Now," he said as he pointed his gun at Carl.
Jewel made a move to stand in front of him. "Mom," Carl said as she did so.
"We can talk about it," Rick said in a shaky voice.
"We're done talking," the man said. "Time to listen," he said moving closer. A group of savior's comes closer and starts to disarm them. The man looked at Carl then the gun. "That's yours right?"
"Don't talk to him!" Jewel hissed.
"Don't worry, I'm not going to hurt him. Yeah, this is yours," the man said as he flipped his hat.
"Don't touch him!" Jewel yelled as she started to move being grabbed.
The man stood up. "He called you mom, seems like he's already been hurt so I understand why you'd want to protect him. But you need to calm down."
"You need to stop touching my son," Jewel hissed trying to not show her fear. "Where's my daughter? I know you have her, you left souvenirs," she said as she glared at the man.
"All will be answered in a timely fashion. OK let's get her down and get you all on your knees. Lots to cover," the man said.
Other men came over to start to take Maggie. Jewel turned to protect her.
"Hold up, we got it," Abraham hissed.
"Sure, sure," the man said as he held up his hand.
Rick, Aaron, Sasha and Abraham put the gurney on the ground, and Rick and Abraham helped Maggie off and over. A man grabbed Eugene and Lexi and pulled them over. Rick looked at them.
"Gonna need you on your knees," the man said to Rick.
"Let her come by me, please," Sasha said as she looked at Lexi.
"She your kid?" the man asked.
"My sister," Sasha said.
"Go," the man said as Lexi pulled out of the man's grip and rushed to Sasha.
"You OK?" Sasha asked as she wrapped her arms around her.
"I tried…." Lexi said as she cried a little.
Jewel stood next to Carl and they all looked at Rick as he got on his knees, putting his hand on his head. The others followed him.
Sasha kept Lexi's hand in hers as they got on their knees.
"Dwight," the man yelled.
"Yeah?" Dwight answered.
"Chop chop," the man said.
Dwight looked at the group then went to the van and opened the door. "Come on," he said. "Got people to meet," he said as he grabbed Daryl, the Michonne, Joey, Beth, Glenn, and Summer.
"Maggie?" Glenn asked as he was put on his knees trying to get to her.
"On your knees," a man said as he pushed Glenn, Maggie crying softly.
"This one yours momma bear?" the man asked nodding to Summer.
Jewel glared at him. "Yes," she answered.
"Samson take her over to be by her mother," the man ordered.
"Come on," Samson said as he held her elbow putting her down beside Jewel. Jewel was sitting in the middle of her two children.
Jewel glanced at her hand then at Summer. Summer shook her head mouthing I'm OK. She glanced at Daryl who looked like he was going to pass out.
