All Nightmare Long
Chapter 511
Author's Note: Furlough is over (for at least 3 weeks) and being pay roll keeper sucks. So, brain dead. Not much to say. Please review.
Dwight, Negan and Sylvie POV:
Negan crossed his arms as the two of them walked up the stairs. "I don't see a truck and I don't see a Gordon. What I do see is the two of you pushing bikes and injured as hell."
"Gordon used the truck as a weapon, backed up, caused me to wreck, then went straight at Dwight. We caught up to him, he ran at me with a gun, Dwight had to take him out. The biters came at the sounds of the gun shots, but we took care of them, brought him back. He's on the fence," Sylvie answered him. She also knew that he would never think she was lying to him.
"That what happen, D?" Negan asked.
Dwight nodded. "Just like she said. She did good out there, had my back," he told him.
Negan grinned. "Well, that's what I like to hear. You coming around to my way of thinking Syl?"
Sylvie looked at him. "Let's not go that far. But Dwight reminded me, I don't just have myself to worry about. I do something dumb, you won't call me on it, you'll call Sampson on it. I kind of like his face the way it is," she said. "But, you'd find me boring if I didn't call you out on your shit once in a while."
Negan laughed. "Yeah, I would! Now, where's my truck?"
"It's on the side of the road, in a tree. We tried to move it, but must have done something to the engine. We stuck what we could in our bags, brought it back," Dwight said.
"Your guy tried to escape while you were gone," Negan told him.
"Daryl?" both Sylvie and Dwight asked.
"Yeah, Daryl. Who the hell else do you think I'm talking about? I had Fat Joey leave the door unlocked, figured maybe he was smart enough to stay put. But no, he tried to escape," Negan explained.
Sylvie and Dwight exchanged glances. "Is he still alive?" Sylvie asked.
"Yes, he's still alive. He just needs a little bit more push. Right Dwight?" Negan asked.
"Yeah, I'll work harder on him, give him a push in the right direction," Dwight assured him.
"I know you will D. I'm counting on you. Go get cleaned up. Sylvie," he started to say.
"Yeah?" she asked.
"Hold up, I want to talk to you," Negan said.
Sylvie glanced at Dwight as he walked away. "What is it?"
"I asked him to watch you out there, handle all the heavy stuff," Negan told her.
"This wasn't his fault," Sylvie told him. "There was nothing he could have done differently, nothing that we could have done differently."
"You think D can handle Daryl? I really want to see the prick's face when I show up with him on my side," Negan said with a grin.
"He'll do what he can, he knows what a big job this is. I'm not going to be part of it, you breaking him. I'll go out on retrievals, I'll go on this run, but I'm not ever going to be your enforcer. And if you even care about my sister the way you claim, you won't ask," Sylvie said.
Negan laughed. "You keep me honest, Sylvie. You remind me a lot of Lucille that way. Not afraid to speak back."
"Is that why you find Daryl's sister so intriguing?" Sylvie asked as she crossed her arms.
"She's refreshing, man like Rick doesn't deserve her," Negan said.
"So why is Daryl here instead of her?" Sylvie questioned.
"She'd chew me up and spit me out. She's got fire, couldn't break her," Negan told her. "Go clean up, come have lunch with me," he instructed.
"Ok, see you in a bit," Sylvie answered as she took a breath as she left.
Dwight and Daryl's POV:
Dwight opened up Daryl's cell and held out the sandwich to him, throwing it down when he didn't take it. "Eat," he instructed. Dwight shook his head. "Heard you tried to run. That was dumb, almost as dumb as what you did out in that field. You got your friend killed. It could have been your sister, or your niece, or any of them. I got Tina killed, I could have gotten Sherry killed, or Sylvie. And don't pretend that you don't know the score," he told him.
Daryl picked up the sandwich and threw it at Dwight.
Dwight took a breath as he bent down. "You should be dead, but Negan's taken a shine to you. You're lucky, don't forget it," he said as he dug into his pocket and took out the picture of Glenn with his head bashed in and taped it to the wall. "Bon appetite," he told Daryl as he left and closed the door. He stood at the door listening to Daryl breakdown. He waited for a few minutes and reopened the door as he saw him laying on the floor crying and having thrown up. "Come on, time to go see Negan."
Daryl looked up at him and stood up.
Negan, Sylvie, Dwight and Daryl's POV:
Sylvie looked at Negan as she sat at the table, him sitting in the chair across. "Why am I here Negan? I told you that I didn't want any part of breaking him, or anyone else for that matter."
Negan laughed. "I'm not going to have you do anything. Geez, Syl, a little trust now and then would be nice. I like having you around. Just sit, eat, let me handle business and I'll come join you," he said as he heard the door open.
"Step in," Dwight instructed.
Sylvie glanced over her shoulder as she saw Daryl walk in, taking in how bad he looked.
Negan laughed as he stood up. "Oh geeze, you look awful," he said as he picked up his glass. "Don't you worry, we'll have Carson fix you all up," he said. "Sylvie here is good at scrapes and stuff, but those look worse than scrapes. You thirsty?" he asked as he held up his glass.
Sylvie stood up. "Negan, I'll come back later," she said, not being able to stand what he was doing.
"This won't take long, sit down," Negan instructed. "Just having lunch with my sister in law. But you know that don't you?" he asked Daryl. "Here," he said as he handed Daryl the glass. "Ah hell, I forgot, your mouth is all, puffed up like a bamboon's ass. You need a straw? D, get him a straw. What's wrong with you?" he asked.
Sylvie shared a glance with Dwight as he passed him as he went to get the straw.
"See that guy? He hustles. I like hustle," he said as Dwight came back and put a straw in Daryl's glass. "But believe it or not, things weren't always cool between us. D here, he worked for points. Him and his super-hot wife, and her super-hot sister," he said as Dwight grabbed the glass out of Dwight's hand. "But see sis, she needed meds. And that shit is hard to savage, so it cost more. Sis fell behind on points, so I asked her to marry me. Told her that I would take care of her, in sickness and in health, blah blah blah, because I am a stand-up guy," he said as Sylvie bit her lip from saying something. She glanced at Dwight, who was keeping his head down. "She tells me that she's going to think about it, and the next thing you know, I'm dealing with an Orange situation. Dwightey boy here stole all the medication, and took off with my sister in law Sylvie here, his super-hot wife, and my super-hot maybe soon to be fiancée," he said as he pounded Lucille on the floor. So I had to send my guys after them, because I can't let something like that stand," he said as he brandished Lucille around, causing Daryl to flinch. "There are rules. Sylvie here, she came back on her own. I can't really hold a thing like that against her, I know that Tina or D gave her a sob story to get her to come along. But it cost me an arm and a leg going after the other him. And you know what, Dwighty boy still got away. But here's the thing, D he saw the light, he manned up, he came back, he asked for my forgiveness," he said. "I liked that, made me take notice," he told him as both Dwight and Sylvie looked at him. "But Lucille," he said as he walked back over causing Daryl to jump again, "well you know how she is. She is a stickler for the rules. So Dwight, he begged me not to kill Sherry, which I thought was kind of cute, so I was just going to kill him. But then Sherry says she will marry me if I let Dwight live, which if you think about it, that's a pretty screwed up deal, cause I was gonna marry her sister until she wound up dead but Sherry is super-hot. Anyways, it was a start, but it wasn't enough. I mean, I still had to deal with the fact that he got Syl involved with all this shit. So Dwight got the iron, and then I married his super-hot wife," he said with a grin toward Dwight. "Ex-wife. And then still after that he still got on board. And now look at him! Pow! One of my top guys. And we are totally cool. The point being, I think you can be that guy. I think you are ready to be that guy. Look around here, this well, it can all be yours. All you got to do is answer one simple question. Who are you?"
Sylvie stood by the table and looked between the two of them.
"What the cat got your tongue? You're just overwhelmed by the awesomeness of this. I'm going to ask you one more time. Who are you?" Negan asked.
"Daryl," Daryl answered after a few moments.
Sylvie let out a silent breath she was holding.
"Oh this is the only…" Dwight started to say.
"Hey. Sst, sst. It's cool, D," Negan said with a grin. "He made his choice. Aint my problem if he made a dumb ass one. Get him out of my sight," he told Dwight. "So guess we can have that lunch now," he told Sylvie as they walked out of the room.
Sylvie looked at him. "I lost my appetite," she said as she walked to the door. "You didn't make me lift a hand, but you had me here to emphasize a point. You threatened his sister, without even mentioning it! You can't ever do anything nice, there always has to be some kind of ulterior motive. And, I don't even know if you know that you are doing it!" she said as she walked out of the room, slamming the door.
Dwight and Daryl's POV:
Dwight pushed Daryl in the cell and looked at him. "You're gonna wind up in that room or hanging on the fence!" he yelled at him.
"I get why you did it," Daryl told him. "Why you took it. You were thinking about someone else. That's why I can't."
Dwight shut the door and went towards the outside railing, toward the moaning. He glanced over at Sylvie, who was already there. They both stood and started at the biter formally known as Gordon.
