All Nightmare Long

Chapter 527

Author's Note: Let's go check on our other babies now, shall we? I think of Gregory and Summer's relationship like Jewel and Shane's. They just love to hate each other. Please review.

Beth, Summer, Sasha, Maggie and Jesus POV:

Beth helped Sasha spread covers on the couch, while Beth had found an old sleeping bag for her to sleep in.

"Are you sure I can't talk you into taking the extra room at Barrington house?" Jesus asked them.

Sasha and Beth glanced at each other, Sasha not saying a word. "I don't think Gregory would appreciate it," Beth answered. "Summer's going to stay in the medical tent for tonight anyway, since Gregory wants us gone."

Sasha huffed as she made the couch.

"For what it's worth, I'm glad you're here, both of you," Jesus told them.

"Then make Gregory change his mind," Sasha told him.

"I'm going to try," Jesus told them.

"That's not good enough," Sasha said.

"Maggie needs to stay here, for the baby," Beth reminded him.

"It's not, but the people here need me, if it was just Gregory, it'd be worse," Jesus told them.

Summer came in and stood by the door as Sasha looked at him. "Then why aren't you in charge?"

"It's not me, I'm not a leader," Jesus answered.

"Neither is Gregory," Beth pointed out.

"He's a coward, and he's going to get everyone here, including you, slaughtered," Summer told him.

"What if I leave? Summer too? If Maggie can stay, and Beth with her, I'll scavenge for Hilltop. Summer?" Sasha asked looking at the younger woman.

"I'll go back to Alexandria, won't say a word to Negan about this deal," Summer reasoned.

"I can go scavenging with Sasha," Beth added.

"We'll pay her way, if you just keep Maggie safe. He'd be getting rid of Summer, and we'd be bringing things in for Gregory, for the Hilltop," Sasha said. "Would Gregory go for that?"

Jesus looks down at his hands. "Maybe. But I don't want that," he told them.

"What do you want Jesus?" Sasha asked appalled. "What do you want this place to be?

"He wants to keep everyone happy. Sometimes that's not possible," Summer told him.

"I just…I just try to help," Jesus told them.

"Maybe you got to do more," Sasha said.

"We appreciate you fighting for us out there," Beth told him.

"Yeah, we do," Summer added.

Jesus sighed as he reached into his pocket getting out a necklace. "This was Abraham's," he said as he handed it to Sasha. "I found it here," he told her. Sasha looked down at it as Beth squeezed her hand. "I'm sorry. I liked him, he was one of the only people that could say things that make you smile and wince at the same time," he told her.

Beth and Summer exchanged soft smiles as a knock came on the door. Summer went to answer it. "Maggie," she said as she let her in.

Jesus stood up. "I made the bed for you, and laid out some clothes. They're mine, so they're more for comfort then utility," he told her.

"It's OK," Maggie told him as she squeezed Summer's arm. "We won't be here much longer."

"Maggie," Summer and Beth both said as they looked at her.

"I'm sorry for all of it, I'm going to see what I can do," Jesus told them.

"Mm," she acknowledged. "Why do you burn your dead?" Maggie asked.

"The idea was just to keep going," Jesus told them.

"You should only burn the ones you don't know, but people part of your group, they mean something, meant something, people should have a place to go talk with them," Summer said as she leaned against the door.

Maggie nodded. "What do you have to remember them by?"

"Us," Jesus said. "I'll see you in the morning."

"I'll come with you," Summer told him. "Love you," she said as she hugged Maggie.

"Love you too," Maggie told her.

"Are you sure you'll be OK by yourself in the infirmary?" Beth asked.

"I'll be fine," Summer assured her. "Come get me if you need me," she told them as she walked out the door.

Sasha and Beth both got up and sat across from Maggie.

"Now what?" Maggie asked.

"Maybe we stay, what can Gregory do?" Sasha questioned with a laugh.

"He's in charge," Maggie reminded her with a shake of her head.

"He's an idiot," Sasha told her.

"He's a coward, they're more dangerous," Maggie told them. "We have the night, let's think on it."

"I'll talk with him tomorrow, I'll take a gentler approach then Summer," Beth told her.

"I don't want you anywhere near him," Maggie told her.

"You don't have a choice in this Maggie, between the three of us we're going to convince him to let you stay," Beth said as she squeezed her hand. "Now go to sleep, you need it. Things will be clearer in the morning," she told the other two women.

Summer and Jesus POV:

Summer looked up at Jesus. "You didn't have to walk me to the infirmary, I could have found my way back. It's not a big place and I've been tracking since I was little."

"I know. I wanted to say sorry to you too, about your Uncle," Jesus told her.

"He's not dead!" Summer yelled at him.

"I know, but Sasha said he was shot," Jesus told her.

"He was, but Negan wants to torture him, he'll keep him alive. Do you think you can convince Gregory?" Summer asked.

"I'll talk to him, I'm not sure if he'll listen," Jesus told her.

"A shot to the knee cap may make him more apt to agree," Summer answered.

"Violence isn't always the answer, Summer" Jesus told her.

"When it comes to protecting my family, it's the only answer," Summer told him. "Maggie's going to stay, with or without Gregory's say so. Good night, Jesus," she said as she went into the infirmary.

Jesus sighed as he went toward the house.

Two hours later:

Summer sat with her legs crossed on the infirmary table and looked down at her hand. She caught a glimpse of something out the window, jumping off the table looking out the window, seeing fires and hearing music, immediately grabbing for her bow and grimacing as she grabbed knives and a gun before heading out the door.

In the other trailer, Sasha, Beth and Maggie all sat up. "What is that?" Maggie asked hearing music.

Sasha ran to the door, looking out the window. "The gates are open, there's fires, the music is coming from a car."

"The noise is attracting walkers right to the gate," Beth said as she tried the window and Sasha tried the door.

"I have to turn that thing off," Maggie said as she put a chair on the table.

"Maggie! You can't," Beth told her as she ran to help her with the chair.

"Dr. Carson said to stay off your feet," Sasha told her.

"I can't let you do this by yourself," Maggie told her.

"She isn't by herself," Beth told her. "Plus Summer's out there. Sit."
