Heyo! Just going to say a few things before you read the story If you are reading, that is. Anyways so first, obligatory, I DO NOT OWN THE RISING OF THE SHIELD HERO. IF I DID I WOULDN'T BE WRITING FANFICTION ABOUT IT.
Now that that's done the obligatory "Quotations do be speaking." I'm just going to create a system where im going to go at my own pace, unless i get a PM or review asking me to continue in which I'll suck it up and start writing some more. (dont spam tho please)
Now its the story (finally)

"Welcome heroes! This is our kingdom! And I'm afraid I must ask that you come with us to visit the king." This seems to be a dark room, and there are a few… priests, I think, bowing their heads.

All four of us seem to share a glance and then the one with the sword says, "Fine. But don't dare try to attack or I'll slice you to bits." The priests seem to wave it off as a joke, "We wouldn't dare hurt the only way to save our world from the waves!"

I almost blurted right there and then to ask what the waves we're but I really didn't want to deal with any attention. Honestly it sucks that out of a Bow, Spear, Shield, and Sword I was the one stuck with the shield. Well, beggars can't be choosers I suppose.

After some walking we end up at the throne room. There are two thrones, but the one where a queen would sit is vacant. Odd. Where is she?
"Cardinal Heroes! Introduce Yourself." The king, Aulticray, orders.

The sword hero walks up, "I am Ren Amaki, 16 years old, In High School and the Sword Hero."

The bow hero is next, "I am Itsuki Kawasumi, 17 years old in high school and the Bow Hero."

Of course, the spear was next, "Motoyasu Kitamura, College student 21 years old and at your service!" Then he winked at a lady nearby. He thinks with his crotch doesn't he...

Then, I go last, "I am Naofumi Iwatani 20 ye-"

The king interrupts me there, rather rude if you ask me. "My country, Melromarc is at the brink of destruction to these waves of destruction, which essentially are waves of monsters that destroy the world piece by piece, and get stronger and stronger."
"Either way, king, don't expect us to do this for nothing." Says the sword hero.

"Obviously you will be rewarded handsomely for your efforts." The king offers.

"Very well." The sword answers. He seems very high and mighty. Annoying, but it's still so cool that I got sent to another world!

"So us four will be grinding for the rest of the day then?" Naofumi asks.

"Wrong." The king replies, "The legendary weapons seem to all repel each other, giving less EXP and hindering over all growth."

Later, We find out that our worlds are different, though I definitely have to speak a word with Ren. I need to ask him a few questions next time I get one.

The next day, adventurers line up with which hero they wish to party with, which is all great but...

"WHAT? WHERE'S MY ADVENTURERS?" I exclaim. Well maybe I didn't need to yell but my attack stat is one for god's sake I need a party member! How can I attack? How can I level? I'm going to be stuck in a terrible loop and just die in the first wave!

"This is quite unfortunate." The king said, "Are any adventurers willing to go with the shield hero?"
Of course, just my luck nobody is willing to go party with m-
"I'll do it." A red haired lady walks out of Motoyasu's line and raises her hand.

Words do not even begin to describe the amount of relief that I just felt about getting a party member.

The rest of the day progressed normally, I learned her name was Myne Suphia and then we grinded a little bit, but I'm glad I checked the help menu, otherwise I wouldn't have invited Myne to my party for exp. We went into a man's shop, the man later, we learned, was named Erhard and seemed quite friendly.

"OW!" And that's how I learned that I can't wield other weapons with the intent to fight.

I ended up at an inn with Myne later, and we had a chat. "Sir Shield Hero, would you like to have a drink with me?" Myne raises her glass in a fashion as you would do if you would toast. "Sorry Myne, but I was never a drinker, I just don't much care for the taste."

Yes, I had drank wine before, College parties always had some for the tasting. I never enjoyed them, I just tried a sip of each to see if any appealed to me.

"Rather bold of you to reject a drink from a woman Sir Shield Hero." She says with a smirk.

"Why is that?" Naofumi inquired.

"Well you see, Sir Shield, Melromarc is a matriarchy, no normal man would reject a drink from a woman." She informs me.

"Ah, thanks for the information. I'd keep talking but I'm feeling rather tired, so I'm going to rest for grinding tomorrow.

On the way, I saw Ren heading down somewhere, and I decided now might be a good time to start talking to him.

"Hey, Ren! Hold on a second!" I asked.

"What do you want, Naofumi? I don't have time to waste on non-sense or some random question when I could be getting rest to grind tomorrow." He told me.

"That VRMOO you mentioned, Brave Star Online right?" I confirmed

"What about it?" Ren asked

"It's in my world too. Ren."

And scene because I want to see any response before I decide to just keep writing. And before you tell me, Yes I know this is super short, and not a great first chapter. But I thought it'd be nice to end on a cliffhanger like that to introduce the 'twist' of this fic.
