Chapter 4: Restaurant, talks with mum and Edward missing.

Elena's POV (Opening thoughts):

Well my first day couldn't have got any worse... I hope. Edward was pretty harsh and now I am going to dinner with Bella and my dad.

We are now sitting in the restaurant and the waitress has just brought dad over a plate full of steak and chips, and Bella and I a burger and fries.

How does dad not have serious health issues I do not know.

"I just can't over how grown up you two are," the waitress tells us and I smile at her. "And both so gorgeous."

As she places my dads plate down in front of him a man approaches our table and smiles at Bella and I.

"Hey, Bella, Elena," he greets us both and I also give him a smile. "You two remember me?"

Bella and I both glance at Dad and then I shake my head at the man. "Sorry we don't."

"I played Santa one year," he informs us.

"Yeah," dad glances at us before back at him. "Waylon they haven't had a Christmas here since they were four."

"I bet I made an impression though, didn't I?" He asks making me smile.

"You always do," Charlie tells him while glancing at us.

"Butt-crack Santa," the waitress says making all five of us laugh.

"Hey kids love those little bottles though," Waylon says and Bella and I share a look.

"All right," the waitress says pushing him back gently. "Let the girls eat their garden burgers Waylon. And as soon as you two are done I'll bring you both your favorites. Berry Cobbler, remember?"

I nod. "Still love it."

"You and your dad are a lot a like then," she tells me and my dad smiles. "He still has it every Thursday."

"Thank you," Bella says smirking at me. "That'd be great."

Bella and my dad go to reach for the tomato ketchup at the same time. I chuckle and grab the mustard. I like ketchup and mustard so I take it in turns which one I have.

"Here," Charlie says passing the bottle to Bella.

Those two are a lot alike.

We look up as some people ordering laugh really loudly. I then pick up my burger and begin to eat my food.

Mum has rang Bella and I. Bella is holding the phone as I sit at the desk doing my homework. But she is on speaker so we can both hear her.

"Hey, babiesso listen," she begins and I pause in typing to listen to her. "So listen if spring training goes well, we could be moving to Florida."

An automated voice speaks over the line. "Please insert $1.25. for an additional three minutes."

I turn around in my chair. "Mum where is your cell?"

"Okay don't laugh," she tells us as she inserts more coins so we can talk for a few more minutes. "I didn't lose my power cord. It ran away," I could not help it I started chuckling and I notice that Bella is also trying to hold back her laugh. "Screaming. I literally repel technology now."

"I miss you," Bella tells her.

"Me too," I agree and I really do.

"Oh babies, I miss you too," she says and we can hear how much she misses us in her voice. "But come on tell me more about your school," as she says this I freeze, thinking about Edward. "Now, what are the kids like? Are there any cute guys? Are they being nice to you?"

"Well," Bella tells her. "I've made plenty of friends. Elena?"

I glare at my twin. She knows I had problems at school. "Well, they're all very welcoming."

"Uh-oh El," mum says using her nickname for me. "Tell me all about it."

I shake my head and stand up, closing my book.

"It doesn't even matter," I tell her not wanting to talk about it.

"Yes it does honey," she informs me. "We have homework to do. I'll talk later."

"Okay I love you both," she says and I smile.

"You too," I tell her.

"Love you too," Bella replies before we end the conversation.

"Look," my twin says coming over and sitting besides me on my bed. "Ignore Edward. From what Jess tells me he's not the most welcoming of people."

"I don't care," I tell her as I prepare for bed. "Tomorrow I will be talking to him."

Bella and I are stood outside the school, next to our car.I plan to confront him, and demand to know what his problem is.

I see the Cullen's appear in a truck with Emmett sat on top, nearly. But they seem to be missing someone. Edward never showed.

"Maybe he's sick?" Bella suggests trying to make me feel better.

"And maybe he's avoiding me," I counter.

I feel something hit my back and Bella and I turn to see Tyler was trying to get our attention. Mike, Jess and the others are with him as well. I motioned to my study book. I turn back around before looking towards the Cullen's to see both Alice and Jasper staring at me.

Even when dinner came he wasn't there. This made me feel better when I got to biology and he wasn't there. And the next day another no-show. Bella got her hopes up that he had moved cities. She didn't like him because of the way he acted around me. Even at dinner I glance at the Cullen table part angry/part happy of his absence.

More days passed and he still did not appear and things were getting a little strange.
