Elena's POV: (Opening thoughts)
I know that the Cullen's are hiding something. I know that Jacob's ancestors knew what it was. Hopefully when I go to the book store in Port Angeles, I will find out what it is.
The next day I am at school. The weather is unusually sunny. I am hoping to speak to Edward. At dinner the Cullen's seem to be running late as I sit next to Bella, for the first time at a table outside. Jessica is sat on top of the table, leaning back with her eyes closed. I love how she's trying to soak up as much of the sun as she can before Forks returns to its usual rainy weather.
I glance at everyone else who's enjoying the sun.
"Are you still looking for Edward?" Bella asks and I glance at her before nodding.
"Well he's not here," Jessica explains and I look up at her and she sends me a look. "Whenever the weathers nice the Cullen's disappear."
"What do they just ditch?" Bella asks.
"Surely the school tells their parents!" I point out a little annoyed I will not see Edward.
"They know," she explains and my mouth drops open in shock. "Both Dr and Mrs Cullen yank them out for like hiking and camping and stuff. I tried that out on my parents. Not even close."
Bella smiles at me. "Can you imagine asking Charlie?"
"Yeah unless it was fishing... or baseball... we would be screwed!" I say and we chuckle.
"Guys," Angela says appearing next to us and sitting down next to Bella. "I'm going to prom with Eric. I just asked him. I took control."
I hug her as Bella speaks. "I told you that would happen."
She then hugs Bella. I'm glad that she found someone to go with.
"Are you sure you have to go out of town?" Angela asks clearly wanting us to go.
I glance at Bella and I can see she is in two minds. Maybe she's thinking about Jacob.
"Oh yeah," I say trying to cover up my smirk. "It's a little family thing."
"Okay," Jessica says. "We should go shopping in Port Angeles before all the good dresses get cleaned out."
I look up and then glance at Bella before saying. "Port Angeles... do you mind if I come? Bella want to tag along?"
Bella nods and Angela scoffs. "Uh yeah I need both of your two's opinions."
Bella, for some reason is looking at dresses and so are Jess and Angela.
"I like this," Jessica tells us holding a pink dress in front of her. "But I like don't know about the one shoulder thing."
I am barely paying attention till I hear a tapping on the window. Some guys have gone buy staring at the other three girls.
"That is uncomfortable," Jess says while Bella makes a face of disgust.
"That's disgusting," both Bella and I say at the same time and then we smile.
After a moment of the girls discussing their dresses Jessica speaks to me. "Elena what do you think?"
I look up at the pink dress that she is wearing. Then I glance at the other two. They all look nice but this is really not my thing.
"That looks great," I tell her not wanting to hurt her feelings.
"You said that about like the last five dresses though," Jess points out to me.
"I thought they were all pretty good though," I tell them.
"You're not really into this are you?" Angela asks.
I know that I need to pop to the book shop so I stand up and begin to speak to the girls. "I actually just really want to go to this book store. I'll meet you guys at the restaurant?"
"Are you sure?" Bella asks not wanting to leave me alone but I can tell she's having fun.
"Yeah, yeah I'll see you in a minute," I tell her and as they all agree I leave.
The book shop is a lot further then I thought and by the time I get there and leave its dark.
"Have a good night," the book shop owner says as I leave.
"Thank you," I say to him.
I head out the door and glance down at the book that I just brought. I hope to god that this has the answers I need.
I begin to make my way to the restaurant that I am meeting my twin and the others at.
I head down an alley without thinking about it. But then I spot two boys at the end of the alley and they stop and stare at me. I turn around and head back the way I came.
I really need to pay attention. I glance back and unless I am becoming paranoid the two guys are following me. I decide to try and ignore them.
"Saw you in the dress store," I hear one of them say but I ignore them.
"Hey," the other yells and I glance back and still see them there. "Where are you running to?"
But then I see three more guys coming my way in front. They seem to be with the other two which means... I am in trouble.
"There she is," one in front of me says.
"Whats up-"/"It's my girl!"/ "How you guys doing?"/ "Look what we found?!"
These are some of the lines I hear as all four boys surround me.
I try to get around them but the four of them block me in and one says. "Whoa where you going?"
They begin saying more but I do not say anything until I feel one of there hands touching me and I snap at them.
"Don't touch me!" I tell them.
What I would do to not be alone... or for that weird barrier... if it's real... to come back.
One goes to touch me in a more intimate place but I knee him where the sun does not shine. Maybe the barrier is not real.
As the guy stumbles away from me a silver Volvo comes speeding around the corner. IT COULDN'T BE!
The car goes to hit the boys but stops just short of hitting the one who I kneed.
Edward Cullen gets out and without even looking at me and I hear him say. "Get in the car."
I don't even hesitate as I climb into the passengers seat.
"That was a very dangerous manoveour," One of them says as Edward steps towards them.
But then for some reason the guys seem to be frightened of Edward. But Edward did not seem to do anything from what I can see.
What about that guy makes people scared... not that I am complaining right now.
Edward keeps his glare on them as he walks backwards and climbs into the drivers seat besides me. I am frightened by the look on his face.
It's pure anger. He revs the engine and goes to hit them but stops again just before. As they take a few more steps back he reverses out of there.
We are now speeding down the road. He still looks like he is ready to kill someone. I am worried with the speed this car is going we are going to crash.
He drives like a maniac!
"I should go back there and rip those guys heads off," Edward tells me.
I shake my head. "Uh no you shouldn't."
"You don't know the vile repulsive things they were thinking," he tells me.
Oh he's truthful when he's pissed.
"And you do?" I ask him.
He seems to realise that he should not have said that.
"It's not hard to guess," he says slowly and I scoff. "Can you talk about something else? Distract me so I don't turn around!"
I look around for a change of topic and notice something. "You should put your seat-belt on!"
He laughs like he has no need to put his seat belt on.
"You should put your seat belt on," he retaliates and I realise he is right I am not wearing mine either.
We arrive at the restaurant to see Bella, Jessica and Angela just leaving, discussing the food.
I walked towards them and all three stop. "You guys I'm sorry-"
I get cut off as Bella hugs me, clearly she was worried.
"Where were you?" She asks sounding a little angry now.
"We left messages," Angela tells us.
"Yeah we waited," Jessica continues but they all are looking guilty. "But we were starving so..."
She cuts off as Edward appears at my side. Bella's eyes widen and the others look pure shocked. Especially when he begins to speak.
"Hi," I say and I glance at him and he has a smile on his face. "I'm sorry I kept Elena from dinner. We just sort of ran into each other and we got talking."
Bella smirks and the other two smile.
"No," Jess says clearly shocked but happy that he is talking to her. "No we totally understand... I mean, that happens right?"
"Just next time phone," Bella says nudging me. "You nearly gave me a heart attack."
I nod and they move towards the car. Edward seems to make a decision as I go to follow.
"I think I should make sure Elena gets something to eat," he tells my sister and friends and they mainly stare at me as Edward looks only at me. "If you'd like. I'll drive you home myself."
Maybe this is the time to get answers.
I turn to my sister and I see she looks unsure.
"It's fine Bells," I tell her and nod at him.
"That's so thoughtful," Angela says and we share a look.
"Yeah," Jessica agrees.
Obvious much.
I speak up now. "Yeah I should eat."
"Okay we'll see you tomorrow," Jess confirms and I nod.
"And we will speak later," Bella says and I can hear the double meaning in her voice.
I do not glance back as Edward and I head up the stairs into the restaurant. This should be interesting.
"All right," our waitress says bringing over my meal but she keeps her eyes on Edward. Who surprise surprise hadn't ordered a thing to eat. "One mushroom ravioli,"
"Thanks," I say as she places the plate down in front of me.
"No problem," she says before turning to Edward. "So are you sure there isn't anything I can get you?"
Even as she stares at Edward he keeps his eyes on me. "No, no thank you."
I have never seen him eat. I think to myself.
"Let me know," she says to him still staring at him as she walks off.
I roll my eyes.
I reach for my fork and glance at him. "You're really not gonna eat."
"No I'm on a special diet," he tells me and I smile a little.
I sigh before deciding to just be blunt.
"You gotta give me some answers," I inform him as I pause without putting my food onto my fork.
"Mm," he begins before he begins to give me random answers. "Yes, no. To get to the other side. 1.77245-"
"I don't wanna know what the square root of Pi is," I tell him getting annoyed at his dodging of the subject.
He looks shocked. "You knew this?"
I ignore his question and throw him one of my own. I beg he stops dodging otherwise I am leaving.
"How did you know where I was?" I asked him as even though I was grateful... it wasn't right how he just found me.
"I didn't," he says,
I am not putting up with this. "All right."
I begin to get to my feet to leave.
"What?Wait.." he begins when he realizes what I was doing and I hesitate. "Don't leave. I..."
Oh what the heck. I sit back down.
"Did you follow me?" I ask hoping that he gives me the truth.
"I... I feel very protective of you," he tells me. Oh sweet.
"So you followed me?" I clarify again.
He nods and speaks again in almost a whisper so I am the only one who hears. "I was trying to keep a distance unless you needed my help, and then I heard what those lowlifes were thinking-"
"Wait," I cut him off as I am confused by what he said. "You said you heard what they were thinking?"
He sighs. Oh he realizes how much he just screwed up.
"So, what," I continue on choosing my words. "So... you read minds?"
He seems to decide that there is no point lying anymore. He begins to look around to room at everyone as he speaks.
"I can read in this room, apart from yours," he tells me and I wonder why as he tells me what occupants of the room are thinking. "There's money, sex, money, sex, cat. And then you nothing. Same with your sister. But for you it's frustrating."
I bite my tongue before asking worriedly. "Is there something wrong with me?"
He shakes his head and chuckles.
"See I tell you I can read minds," he points out. "And you think there's something wrong with you!"
He continues to chuckle. Then he sighs.
What now? "What is it?"
"I don't have the strength to stay away from you anymore," he tells me and I fight back a smile.
"Then don't," I tell him. I really do not want him to.
For a few intense seconds we stare into each others eyes. Then he blinks and looks down.
QUEENC2020:
Sorry it took so long.
