A/N: You know that JKR lady? The richest author in the world? Well I'm not her. What I am is yet another dude messing about in the world she created.
This story was written for the wacky au event in the HMS Harmony Discord Server (link on my bio).
Prompt:
Muggle Harmony. Hermione is Teddy's Kindergarten teacher.
"Harry you really need to go on this date. You're lonely and you know it."
"For the last time Ron. No I am not. I have Teddy and he is my priority right now. I need to make him dinner and then help him with his homework. I've told you ready I don't have time for dating."
"What about Teddy then. Do it for him. He needs a mother figure in his life. And you never know. She just might be the one."
"Me and Teddy are just fine by ourselves. Teddy doesn't need a mother. Besides, if I were looking for the one, she would have to be more than just pretty. She would need to be smart and kind and fun, but above all she would treat Teddy like her own son. She's not going to be one of these women you meet at the bar."
The rest of the conversation was muffled as Harry shut the door to his study. Little Teddy sitting in the living room put down his toys. Unbeknownst to the two men in the neighbouring room he had been listening to their conversation. While Teddy agreed with Daddy that he didn't want a Mommy and that the two of them were just fine, Teddy also agreed with Uncle Ron that Daddy needed a Mommy so he wouldn't be lonely all the time. With the task in mind he started to compare all the women he had ever known with the requirements his Daddy had given him. There was Aunt Cho. She was pretty. But she wasn't smart. She wouldn't do. There was Aunt Ginny. She was pretty too. And sort of smart. But she broke up with Daddy because she didn't want to raise him. Nope she was the b word Teddy wasn't allowed to say. Not her. Then who? And then it occurred to Teddy. Of course. Miss Hermione. His class teacher. She was really smart. The smartest person Teddy knew. She was really pretty. She was very kind and treated Teddy like a son upon hearing that his mother had died. Yes she would do. Teddy would ask her tomorrow.
The next day at school Teddy stayed behind after class to talk to Miss Hermione.
"Yes Teddy dear. Do you want anything?"
"Do you like my Daddy Miss Hermione?"
"That's an odd question. I suppose so yes." From her interactions with her she knew that he was a very sweet and selfless person. Always going out of his way to help around in her class, volunteering for every activity. She knew that he was a great father to Teddy. And she had tasted his baking when he had baked brownies for Teddy's whole class last year. Those were heavenly. Didn't hurt that he was quite nice to look at with his lopsided grin and those oh so dreamy Tsavorite eyes. (Suck it Emerald eyes.)
"So will you come our house at 9:00 pm today?"
"Why do you want me to come to your house? Does your father need help with anything."
And without a beat Teddy replied, "Yes." His Daddy needed help not being lonely anymore.
8:30 pm, Potter residence.
"Daddy come on. Let's play a game."
"What game Teddy?"
"Let's play dress up. And have one of those tea parties that Aunt Ginny took you to."
"Those are balls Teddy. You want me to host a ball? Sure thing. Whatever you want little man."
Ding dong*
"Huh I wonder who that could be."
"That's your date to the ball."
"WHAT? TEDDY! WHAT DID YOU DO?"
"You told Uncle Ron that day what you were looking for in a Mommy. I found one for you. Now you won't be lonely anymore."
"Oh Teddy. Who did you invite?"
He heard a gasp and opened the door to see whoever it was.
"Me. So that's why you called me to your house."
Harry looked to see he who was standing at his porch. It was Hermione. She was wearing some black khaki's that fit her snugly accompanied by a white top that hugged her figure. Her bushy brown hair fell in curls around her face. And her expressive brown eyes were looking towards the father son scene with tears in them. And Harry thought to himself, she looked pretty without trying. He remembered the time when he had fallen sick and she had come over with some soup and told him to rest while she looked after Teddy. She was really kind and treated Teddy like her own son. "Ummm. Sorry about Teddy."
"Oh it's no matter. I think it's adorable. Well I must be off", Hermione said shuffling awkwardly.
"No wait. Since you're here already, why don't you come in? Would you like to stay for dinner? I would hate to send you back just like that when you've come all this way."
"Oh I don't know. I don't mean to intrude. I only came here because Teddy said you needed help."
"No no. I insist. We'd like you to stay. Besides. I prepared quite the feast. We're certainly not going to be able to eat it all."
"Well if you insist."
The trio settled down for the meal and as Hermione spouted off interesting facts throughout dinner, Harry thought to himself 'She's really smart.' Later, as he twirled her around their ballroom, he couldn't help but think that Teddy had found him a really good Mommy. Suddenly Harry wasn't mad at Teddy anymore. Suddenly Harry wasn't lonely anymore.
The End.
