All Nightmare Long
Chapter 548
Author's Note: I need to get everyone heading to Hilltop soon! I need my babies all together. I still need to get Tara and Quinn back home and find about Denise. And I want Quinn there when Spencer dies. I got other things to do too, like get Daryl free. I've got plans for that. I want to set in motion Summer being elected leader of Hilltop, which was always my plan even before Maggie left and Jesus died. Please review.
Maggie and Summer's POV:
Summer climbed up to join Maggie on the gate tower. "You should rest," Summer told Maggie.
"So should you," Maggie told her.
"I'm not cooking a human," Summer teased her. "I think I'll head back to Alexandria in a couple days, the hand can heal back there as well as it does here. I want to check on mom, dad, Carl, the girls," she explained.
"And Joey," Maggie added.
"Yeah and Joey," Summer admitted. "I need to apologize to dad, you know for the comment I made."
Maggie put her hand on Summer's shoulder. "He knows you didn't mean it. We all know you didn't mean it," she assured her.
Summer was going to respond before they heard Gregory's voice. "Maggie, ah I know people are saying things, nice things, about you, Summer, Beth and um Sasha."
"They are?" Maggie asked as she looked down at him.
"They are, about the other night, about how they think that you saved the place," Gregory stated.
"Um, we did save the place," Summer corrected him.
Gregory looked at her. "I know it may seem that way, but we would have handled it."
"If you mean staying behind the door and waiting for someone else to save your sorry excuse for a behind, handling it, then you handled it just fine. Or waiting for the savior's to come bail you out. How many people would have died if we weren't here? Maybe you should start thinking what's best for your people and not yourself," Summer told him.
Gregory looked at her. "You know, I was talking to Maggie, not you."
"If you have something to say to me, you can say it to Summer too," Maggie told him.
Gregory cleared his throat. "As I was saying, how they think you saved the place, don't let it go to your head."
"Well, don't let it bother you," Maggie told him. "It seems like it bothers you."
Gregory rubs the apple onto his coat not saying anything as he gives a small smile.
"Oh it definitely bothers him," Summer said as she turned her back to him.
"What are you doing up there?" Gregory asked.
Maggie shared a look with Summer before turning back around and leaning over the gate. "You gonna eat that?"
"Yes," Gregory answered as he went to take a bite.
"Dude, you know she's pregnant," Eduardo said from the other side of the gate.
"And there's plenty of other things for you to eat other than that apple that the pregnant lady wants. Hand it over," Summer told him.
Gregory looked at both of them before throwing it up, Maggie catching it. She smiled and took a bite.
"I'm going to go down, call me if you need anything," Summer said
Lexi and Beth's POV:
Lexi walked into the stable and saw Beth working with the horses along side Archie. "Hey can I speak to the two of you?"
Archie looked up from what he was doing. "What's up lassie?"
"Is Maggie OK? Sasha? Summer?" Beth asked.
"They're fine," Lexi assured her. "Look, I haven't been here long and I don't know Gregory real well, but I guess what I'm asking is are you sure he's the right person to be leading Hilltop?"
"That's a question for you, Archie, I'm just here for Maggie and Summer," Beth stated.
"You know how I feel about Gregory, lass. He's a no good for nothing coward, and shouldn't be leading a herd of cats," Archie stated as he turned to Lexi. "Why are you asking?"
"I've heard what other people are saying about what Maggie, Summer, Beth and Sasha did the other night, along with you and Jesus. They're impressed," Lexi said.
"As they should be, these lassies showed a lot more courage than we've seen from Gregory," Archie stated.
"Lex, what are you getting at?" Beth asked.
"From talking to people, it sounds like you didn't have a choice in Gregory being the leader, that no one else wanted it, and he just fell into it," Lexi said.
"He literally took it over from his brother after he died, thought it was his by right or something," Archie answered. "We didn't really put up much of a fight, because no one else wanted it."
"But what if you have a choice now?" Lexi asked.
"You aren't talking about Maggie are you?" Beth asked.
"Maggie and Summer, or just Maggie or just Summer. Summer is the daughter of two leaders, she's not going to hesitate on anything, and she isn't afraid to stand up for what's right for her people," Lexi said.
"She has put Gregory in his spot a few times already, quite funny to watch," Archie admitted.
"Hold on, have you talked to Summer about this? Or Maggie?" Beth asked.
"Not yet, I wanted to see how Hilltop felt. And I don't want to put pressure on Maggie because of the baby," Lexi informed them.
"I think you're forgetting an important factor, Lexi, they don't live here, there homes aren't here, it's in Alexandria," Beth pointed out.
"But it could be," both Archie and Lexi said at the same time.
"Or it could be just a temporary thing, and Hilltop would have be an ally to Alexandria, and Gregory isn't going to be that, not now, not after Negan's man came to put pressure on him," Archie informed them.
Beth gave a small laugh. "You know Glenn nominated Jewel as Rick's second back at the farm, she didn't want it. It was before they got together."
"And now look at her," Lexi said. "Look, Beth and I can't go talk to people like you can, Archie, not for something like this. You know these people," she told him.
"I'll talk with them lassie, not make it to obvious," he assured her.
Summer's POV:
Summer followed Gregory and grabbed his shoulder. "You want to tell me what all that was about back there?"
"As I said before, I was talking to Maggie," Gregory answered as he turned back around.
"And as she said, you were talking to both of us. You know right before your little visit to the gate, I was telling Maggie how I was planning on going home in a few days," Summer said.
"Well we'll miss you," Gregory informed her.
Summer smirked. "I think you misunderstood me, I was planning on going home that is until you showed up. You're scared."
"Scared? Of what? Of who?" Gregory asked.
"Of Maggie. Of Sasha. Of Beth. Of me," Summer said. "So get used to seeing me around, Gregory," she said as she walked away with a smirk.
