Q&A
Do I have to make a Q&A? 'Cause I will make a Q&A! Don't you make me make a Q&A!
…
That was a bit. I honestly don't mind making a Q&A at all, especially if people are confused because I didn't convey something right.
…
Gundam-Knight-Chris - Is the 8th DigiDestined going to be Penny or Oscar? I'm thinking Oscar. Because the only other Crest I could think of that might work would be Miracles if the 8th one is Oscar.
If it is Oscar, his Digimon partner should be Dorumon.
cody8808 - No, neither Penny nor Oscar are the eighth DigiDestined, though making Dorumon Oscar's Digimon partner isn't a bad idea at all…
Except...I don't exactly know how it would work; in this fanfic, the bond between Tamer and Digimon is a little deeper, sorta like a soul-to-soul kind of bond as well as a friendship sort of thing. I have no idea if Ozpin coming in like a ghost-parasite would make it possible for Oscar to get a Digimon or not. It's something I need to seriously think about…
…
EvaShinobiKaiserKnight - after reading all of this the fact you didn't make Ruby a Digi-Destined turned me off from it. This is going to be another Jaune centered fic so I will respectfully leave it. jeez what a let down.
cody8808 - I'm sorry that you feel that way, but as I've told people before, this fic is just starting out. Just give it some time. And if I was going to make a Jaune-centric story, you would know, believe me.
…
ranjira1998 - umm ... they make it a plot point to state it's the Digidestined and ONLY the Digidestined that can save the day. you leaving Ruby out because " Light isn't a virtue" is a rather flimsy reason at best as you were perfectly willing to change things as drastically as altering the number of digidestined there' wa nos reason you couldn't have replaced "light" with something else. instead you left one out entirely ... and Ruby along with it. (no digivolution beyond champion for non crest holders if i recall correctly so Ruby won't even be help against ultimate or mega bad guys ... thus sidelining her ) ...my question is Why? wass choosing a replacement virtue too hard or... was there another reason? it just seems odd to me(and this is just how it seems to me personally) you have let everyone keep their protagonist card EXCEPT Ruby since SHE ALONE out of all members of the Beacon 8 is not a digidestined despite the fact there was supposed to have been a Digivice and Crest for her as well
...look it's your story you can do what you want just... why?
cody8808 - In this fanfic, that is not how either being DigiDestined means or how the Crests work. As you have said, I am willing to drastically change things, such as:
The Crests do not allow Digimon to go past the Champion level. That honestly made no sense to me as a kid, so any Digimon with a Tamer can digivolve (via DV-Scroll) to the Ultimate or Mega level, given enough time, training, and experience.
The Crests serve a completely different function here, but despite that, Ruby will NOT be sidelined. Everyone will get a chance to shine, as per Digimon tradition. In fact, she might be a little op in this… I'll figure it out as I write it. And when I meant that 'light is not a virtue,' I meant that literally. As in her silver eyes. As in the inner holy power that can destroy/petrify dark power and evil beings. Ruby doesn't HAVE a Crest because she doesn't NEED one. And do not worry, Ruby WILL get a Digimon, but it won't happen until, like, RIGHT before Vol 3 starts.
There is an eighth DigiDestined- the DigiDestined of...Destiny. Yeah, there isn't a better way to say that, lol. And no, Ruby will not become the eighth DigiDestined… I have special plans for that particular person… MWA-HA-HA-HA!
…
GXY-2013 - I can tell where this is going, in the next chapter. Can't wait.
It seems everyone is upset that you didn't make Ruby into a DigiDestined, and gave her own Digimon, besides Calumon. I too was a little upset, but I already gotten over it.
And I still find your story quite enjoyable, reminds me of a previous story that was already gone now. It was Digital Destiny, an RWBY x Digimon crossover by... I forgot who the author was.
For the Digivolutions, you can use the Digimon Adventure tri. version, and the song will be Brave Heart tri. version, sung by Ayumi Miyazaki. Or maybe use the Digimon ReArise version.
Now I am hoping that Team CFVY could become Tamers in the future, and get their own Digimon as well, some point after their... failed mission. Well, if you want to.
P.S. If a pack of Numemon will appear later on, how would Team RWBY & JNPR with their Digimon deal with them?
cody8808 - Yes, it seems that a lot of people are upset *sits in a big chair and reads the reviews, eating popcorn and laughing all the while* lmao, and thank you for your patience.
As for Digivolution music, I'd have to go for the dub Digimon theme, because nostalgia. I'll be honest, Brave Heart didn't click with me at first, but after hearing it a few times, it began to grow on me. So, instead of using Brave Heart for the regular Digivolution scenes, I'm gonna suggest listening to Brave Heart (Adventure tri version or whichever you prefer) during the irregular Digivolution scenes. No, I will not elaborate by what I mean by 'regular' or 'irregular' Digivolutions…'cause that would be spoiling it.
I tried to look for a rock cover of Brave Heart, but the only thing that I could find was a cover by Sanaka Mepa...which is still a decent cover, imo.
But then again, you could completely ignore me and listen to Brave Heart throughout the entire thing. It's not like I can stop you or anything.
It's funny; I was going to rename this fic as "RWBY: Digital Destiny," but I guess I can't now, huh? Or can I? Screw it, I'm gonna do it anyway.
I have an idea for Coco and Velvet's partner Digimon, but showing that would only happen in an omake set during After the Fall/Before the Dawn...which reminds me, I should probably read those books sometime, huh?
As for the swarm of Numemon, that sounds like it could be a fun, comedic chapter… MWA-HA-HA-HA!
…
X3runner - I would have thought based on the original shows evolution line jaune's would fit Nora a bit more big hammer smashing thunder buddies but. I mean I couldn't really think of any Digimon line that would fit him I mean I'd think DemiDevimon since Jaune had the gall to create fake transcripts that would either A fool goodwitch enough to keep her from knowing or be be so insane that ozpin would let him in for shits and giggles and what's more French than a Pierrot which Piedmon was based after.
cody8808 - You're thinking of Bukamon digivolving into Gomamon from Adventure. Bukamon are also able to digivolve into Betamon, one of which is Jaune's partner Digimon. I chose Betamon (and thus Seadramon) as a reference to Gargouille, an aquatic dragon that terrorized France but was slain by a bishop.
Though the idea of Jaune getting DemiDevimon did make me lol. The character that was inspired by a woman who claimed to hear the voice of God getting a demon as a partner is really funny to me.
…
SpeedMaster642 - Maybe you can bring in a Tamer or two from Earth to help them out in future chapters. If it's one tamer then you can give them Herissmon from DigimonReA game. If you go with two, you can give the second person Lopmon. Just something to think about.
cody8808 - Digimon talking about Earth is going to be a meta joke in this fanfic (and any other RWBY x Digimon fanfics that I may or may not make) and the whole thing is a reference to how there are multiple different Digital Worlds along with other universes (like the Digital World: Iliad & Witchelny); so why wouldn't the Digimon in a Digital World 'know' about more than one Real World? Other than that, Earth, or its local Tamers and/or DigiDestined, will not have any part of this fanfic, just fyi.
Unless it's for a neat non-canon crossover story or something, idk. We'll see what happens.
I also have something planned for Lopmon…
…
Fleece Johnson - You really have to give a Digimon to Jaune, the loser boy who wants to draw attention that FALSIFIED the registration papers to one of the academies for DEADLY COMBAT The same boy who for four / five seasons has not told anyone but about the fraud he did, not even his "team", due to the convenience of the plot he did not suffer any consequences for committing a crime like that.
Ruby must be part of the group, who should be excluded is Jaune but of course you decide to favor him like the canon does ... it should give you shame. And how dare you compare Joe with Jaune, Joe is much better character than that scammer and falsify documents
cody8808 - ...Let us 'unpack' this, shall we?
Yes, Jaune falsifying his registration papers was dumb, but that doesn't exactly make him a loser. A loser would be someone like Cardin, a turd that picks on other people to make himself feel superior.
Jaune had told someone- which was Pyrrha, no less- leading to Jaunedice and Forever Fall happening to begin with. And I think we can all agree that being Cardin's errand boy for two- TWO!- weeks is punishment enough. Even if he did tell his friends (which we have no idea whether he did or not), it would be pretty obvious that no one would care. Like how I don't care.
Ruby WILL be a Tamer, give it time.
I am not favoring Jaune. Everyone will get their moment to shine. Give it time. And there are a LOT of things that I'm ashamed of, but Jaune will never be one. Why would it? He's fictional.
First, I did not make the comparison, THOR Alter: Digital Story (which I recommend, btw) did, which I happened to somewhat agree with. Second, it wasn't even a direct comparison, just that Jaune takes over Joe's role in the story, since it is basically a retelling of Digimon Adventure, but with RWBY characters and Jaune gets both Gomamon and the Crest of Reliability. And third...oh, I do dare. I dare with flare like I'm some sort of literary Solaire, feeling like I'm walking on air without a care or a hint of despair. *mic drop*
…
Shadowwolf of Phantoms - To Fleece Johnson,
If you don't like how something is in the story then why are you reading it?
cody8808 - Thank you, kind sir, for defending my honor. Rest assured that I have heard way worse (meaner?) reviews than this… Just check out the ones in RWBY: Saiyan's Rise. ...Yikes.
…
Nanairo the Keyblade Samurai - Well, that comment on Nora answered my unspoken question on which route Dracomon's Digivolution line would go through. I had a feeling it would be the Blue line and not the Green, but Nora isn't exactly predictable, so I wasn't sure. (Plus, I could easily imagine her controlling Breakdramon to smash through tons of enemies[Digimon, Grimm, or otherwise].) Judging by how you describe the Digimon and the attacks, I take it your Digimon Analyzer was influenced by Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth. Still, despite not having a partner, I can easily imagine Ruby befriending several non-partnered Digimon. Looking forward to what happens next.
cody8808 - The Cyber Sleuth games were more of a secondary source; I mainly used the Digimon Wiki for info. Actually, now that you've mentioned that, there is something important I wanted to explain to everyone: how the Digimon Analyzer and how Digimon in this fic in general are going to work…
!IMPORTANT!
Digimon will, for the most part, have their English/American names. Unless they are really, really bad, such as Dragomon, Beastmon, SkullScorpiomon, and Scorpiomon, whose names will be their original Japanese versions (Dagomon, Bastemon, Scorpiomon, and Anomalocarimon, respectively).
Digimon Types will be whatever fits the Digimon the best, whether that will be the Japanese or English/American version. For example, Seadramon will keep his original Japanese Type (Aquatic) while Ebidramon will keep his English/American Type (Crustacean), because I feel like that there are already plenty of Aquatic Type Digimon, but having some of them be Crustacean diversifies things, y'know?
Digimon attacks...oh boy, this one's gonna be a doozy…
In my headcanon, all Digimon- Rookie level and up- should at least have three attacks, if only for variety's sake.
Some Digimon don't have three attacks. In that case, I'll either use one of the generic attacks from the Cyber Sleuth games or make up an attack that fits the corresponding Digimon the best.
And some Digimon have two attacks that are basically the same thing, but with different names. In that case, it'll get replaced.
Sometimes, though, a Digimon's attack's name is so dumb that I just have to change it. I just have to.
Example A: Cherubimon (Good) has two attacks- Spear Lightning and Heaven's Judgement. In this fanfic, Cherubimon (Good) also gets Holy Light, an attack from the Cyber Sleuth games that Cherubimon (Good) is able to learn.
Example B: Hookmon has two attacks that are basically just him blasting an opponent with his arm-cannon. I replaced one with an attack that is a trait in Digimon Story: Lost Evolution- Mist Cape.
Example C: MegaGargomon has two attacks- Gargo Missile and Gargo Missiles. What?! The former is just MegaGargomon firing the two missiles on his shoulders and the former is him firing ALL of his weapons, all at once, destroying everything around him.
Am I the only one that thinks that's weird?
I decided to rename 'Gargo Missile' to 'Gargo Missiles,' since he's using two missiles, and as such, gets the plural. I renamed the original 'Gargo Missiles' to 'Gargo Destroyer,' something that I hope is a little more appropriate for such an over-the-top, kick-ass attack.
…
And now, I'm done explaining. Now, let's get on with the SHOOOOOW!
Chapter 5: Digivolution - Part 2
After the Grimm Studies class, the conversation continued as they walked down the hallway, trying to get to the next class. They were still answering questions, probably because the Digimon still couldn't wrap their heads around a couple of subjects…
"But what is Aura?" Tokomon asked for what must've been for the fourth time, but instead of getting frustrated, the Hunters-in-training tried to explain it the best that they could.
"Aura is the manifestation of one's soul-" Pyrrha began, but was interrupted.
"Yeah, but what does that mean?" Babydmon countered. "Is it like what I can do?" Then the little draconic Digimon sucked in a big breath and unleashed his attack, "Hot Steam!" and a plume of steam and sparkly spices shot out from Babydmon's mouth before dissipating harmlessly into the air.
The students, the Tamers and the rest of the student body, blinked at the little Digimon, but the other students rushed off to their next class when Yang gave them a warning glare.
"Well…" Pyrrha tried to figure out what to say, "Not exactly. Aura is used for-" Jaune interrupted his partner, patting his hand on her shoulder and giving her a confident look.
"Pyrrha, I've got this." The group stopped in the hall as the blonde knight stepped in front and faced them. He held his hands in front of him dramatically, like he was some sort of guru that was about to impart some great wisdom. "Aura...is like a force field." Bukamon looked down at him with a raised brow as he sat on his Tamer's shoulder.
…
The students and their Digimon blinked at him for a couple of seconds before…
Weiss groaned more to herself as she pinched her nose from his oversimplified explanation. Ruby and Yang tried to hold in their laughter while the rest gave him blank looks. The Digimon on the other hand…
"OOOoooh!" they simultaneously said, as it finally clicked in their heads. Their respective Tamers looked at them somewhat incredulously.
"You know what a force field is?!" Weiss asked Minomon, who answered her by nodding.
"Yup! It's all, like zhwa! and zwoop! around you and nothing can hurt you," Minomon added, making the sound effects herself, and all of the other Digimon nodded in agreement. The others could only blink at their Digimon as one of the heiress' eyes twitched.
Poromon, in the meantime, had a thoughtful look on her face. But with sudden realization, she jumped in Pyrrha's arms and flapped her wings, drawing everyone's attention.
"Oooh!" she said excitedly, "A 'soul' is like a DigiCore!" While the Digimon tilted their heads, thinking the comparison over in their heads, the Hunters-in-training could only stare at her blankly.
"Okay," Blake finally asked, "what is a DigiCore?"
"A DigiCore is the source of a Digimon's being," Bukamon answered her, matter of factly. "It's where the energy for our attacks and Digivolution comes from. It's also where we keep the data that we absorb."
"Data?" asked Ren, to which Tokomon grinned widely, his pointy teeth showing.
"Yup-yup! When Digimon are defeated, they release the data it had absorbed, which other Digimon absorb, making them stronger!"
"So you need to fight to make yourselves stronger?" asked Yang, but Gummymon shook his head.
"Nah, we absorb data overtime, from the energy in our surroundings and a little bit from the energy in the food we eat, but fighting to get data is a lot faster."
"One more question," Jaune began, "how do you guys know all of that? You just hatched yesterday!" The Digimon all looked at each other, but they all shrugged.
"Dunno," Gummymon answered him, "we just do." They stood there in silence, letting that sink in, until Weiss' DV-Scroll rang. Pulling it out and opening it, the white-haired girl's eyes bulged as she saw what time it was.
"We're going to be late for our next class!" she yelled and ran for the amphitheater, Minomon hanging onto her Tamer's arm with her head-vine and dangling behind the heiress as she ran. The others looked at each other for a moment before running after her, remembering who's class that they had next.
They did not want to be late for her class…
/~/
Teams RWBY and JNPR, along with their Digimon, shrank under Goodwitch's glare. They had been three minutes- three minutes- late to their Combat class, but they were still tardy. And Professor Goodwitch did not tolerate tardiness…
All sixteen of them began to sweat bullets as Goodwitch's eyes narrowed at them, her glare intensifying.
"And why are you late...Miss Rose?" The poor girl in question flinched at being singled out, but answered the deputy headmistress.
"Uh… We were answering the Digimon's questions, since, well… They-wanted-to-know-what-a-Grimm-was-which-surprised-us-since-everyone-already-knows-what-Grimm-are-but-I-guess-Digimon-don't-so-we-answered-them-but-then-they-got-scared-and..."
Ruby continued to nervously ramble on for a good minute, seemingly without taking a breath, making everyone sweatdrop.
"How can she do that..." Budmon wondered.
"I'm still trying to figure that out..." Yang deadpanned. The corner of Goodwitch's eye twitched in annoyance, so she clicked her heel loudly, silencing the red-hooded student.
She looked among the Digimon, to which some of them even gulped under her scrutiny. Goodwitch's face seemed to soften slightly as she thought it over. Slightly.
"Do not be tardy again," she curtly said as she walked towards the center of the amphitheater, much to their equal nervousness (at the implied threat in her tone) and relief (since they weren't in trouble). They quickly found spots to sit before they could get into any actual trouble.
After she entered the center of the arena and turned around, Goodwitch \addressed the class, "Since the Vytal Festival is not far from now, we are going to practice unarmed hand-to-hand combat."
Both Ruby and Weiss sagged at hearing that (though the heiress was much more discreet about it...), since the both of them were atrocious at unarmed combat- even Jaune could connect a good right hook now and then! "While, yes, it is idiotic to fight the Creatures of Grimm without Dust or a weapon, the same cannot be said about non-Grimm opponents. Being able to defend yourself unarmed could mean the difference between life and death."
"The first match today will be: Yang Xiao Long..." The whole class (minus one) held their breath, praying that they wouldn't be up against Yang in a close range one-on-one fight. "And Cardin Winchester."
A ghost of a smile appeared on Goodwitch's face when she looked over and saw the brown-haired boy's expression- who had been sneering condescendingly at Team RWBY and JNPR possibly getting into trouble- turning pale as the blood drained from his face. He glanced over to his right and saw the blondezerker shoot him a downright sadistic grin.
Yang gently cupped Gummymon and moved him from her shoulder to the desk in front of her. When he looked up curiously at her, she responded with a nicer grin.
"Watch closely; you don't want to miss this," Yang told her Digimon partner, before walking to the changing rooms to get ready.
Both Gummymon and Budmon glanced up at her Huntress partner, the Plant Digimon asking, "What does she mean by that?" Blake glanced down at the two, giving them a knowing smirk.
"Yang specializes in one-one-one fights," the cat-eared Faunus answered, looking back at the arena where Goodwitch was standing. "And close quarters melee." The two Digimon looked at each other before they, too, looked down at the arena, waiting for the pugilist to come back out.
…
And like Ruby before, Yang hadn't taken long and walked out of the changing rooms in her full Huntress outfit, getting a couple of good stretches in before delivering Cardin's probably-deserved pounding. Speaking of Cardin, he was on the other end of the arena, in his armor and honestly feeling a little naked without his weapon, the Executioner, in his hands…
As Yang stretched, Cardin fought very hard not to stare and drool at her figure, since that would only make this hurt even more.
Finished, the blonde girl took a classic boxing stance and grinned towards the bully, who reluctantly got into his own stance, though it was sloppier in comparison to Yang's.
Goodwitch looked between the two, before saying out loud, "Begin!"
The armored boy rushed forward far faster than a teenager as muscled and armored as he was should have been able to. Cardin yelled as he threw a haymaker towards her, in an attempt to gain the upper hand first, except… Yang caught his fist easily in her left hand, then began to apply pressure, making the jerk drop to one of his knees from the pain.
The brawler gave her opponent the same sadistic grin she did before, to which made him gulp and squeak, "...Mommy..."
The Digimon could only wince everytime Yang pummeled Cardin, as each hit seemed brutal to them. The humans and Faunus didn't really bat an eye, since one: they were far more used to Yang's 'punch 'em until they're KO'ed' strategy, and two: it was Cardin who was getting beat up. None of them held any sympathies for him.
Calumon looked down at the display, growing more concerned by the moment, "Is she always like this?"
"Only when she isn't taking the fight seriously," Weiss huffed in annoyance.
"Kidney shot! Kidney shot! Kidney shot!..." The Digimon winced as Yang delivered her punches, before… "Stomach punch!" That last one drew a wince from some of the students in the class.
Nora hummed to herself, "I should've brought popcorn..." Ren turned towards his partner with a raised eyebrow.
"Isn't it unhealthy to eat popcorn in the morning?"
The energetic girl merely shrugged innocently, "Well, this is pretty entertaining, so why shouldn't we have some while we watch?" Ren could only nod to the side at her strangely sound logic.
"You're not wrong..."
"Oh gods, everything's on fire! ESPECIALLY THE THINGS THAT SHOULDN'T BE ON FIRE!" Cardin managed to yell out before Yang made him groan from another punch.
"That's your partner…?" Budmon managed to ask her Tamer, who just shrugged.
"Yang's a nice person; loud, annoying, and her jokes are terrible-"
"Hey!"
"-But she's a nice person." Gummymon, instead of wincing, looked on in amazement.
Here was his Tamer, trouncing a guy that was bigger, more muscled, and actually armored. If it was a Digimon fight, it would be obvious that the bigger Digital Monster would be winning, but that wasn't the case now. And she fought to save people from those Grimm creatures! He couldn't help but feel pride that he was her Digimon partner.
Cardin yelled again as he skipped across the arena, like a stone across a pond, before slamming into the arena's hardlight barrier and slid down it, groaning in pain. Yang, smirking, clapped any dust off of her hands, having finished the 'fight' by tossing the boy with a spin.
"That was an okay workout..." the blonde bruiser said before looking towards her friends and the Digimon. Giving them a wide smile and a thumb's up. "See? Piece of cake!" The Digimon looked at her with awe, if not a healthy amount of respect, but none more than Gummymon.
To their surprise, he jumped up a couple of times in excitement, proclaiming, "That was AWESOME! I have the coolest Tamer ever!" That caused the other Digimon to glare at him in annoyance at the insinuation that their Tamers weren't cool, but they all froze as they heard a sharp and commanding cough.
They looked over and spotted Goodwitch giving them a glare, making them sweat again. Gummymon shrunk before giving, "Sorry, ma'am," and trying not to get into trouble with the 'angry librarian lady.'
Satisfied, Goodwitch turned away from them, saying, "Yang Xiao Long wins the match..." She would normally give a piece of advice as to how the both of them could improve, but it was plain as day: Cardin needed to learn how to fight with his fists and Yang really didn't have anything to learn from this fight. Yes, she needed to learn to take fights more seriously, but the pugilist had ended this one quickly and efficiently, without giving Cardin any opportunity to retaliate...so Goodwitch decided to move on with the next match.
"The next match will be...Duke Crimson against Drake LeBlanc," called out the combat instructor, prompting Yang to leave the arena. "Also, could the rest of Team CRDL remove Mister Winchester from the arena."
The blonde girl could only smirk and shake her head at the Digimon's antics as she headed towards the changing rooms, while wondering to herself how crazy things were going to get from now on…
/~/
The next class was Professor Peach's class, but today was a Farm day. The 'Farm,' so dubbed by the student body, was a small area for animal husbandry (mostly chickens, ducks, goats, and one cow named Bessie and a pig named Wilbur) and vegetable and herb gardening. While yes, the school got most of its food supplies from the nearby farms and butchers, Ozpin had thought it would be a good idea to teach students how to grow and harvest their own. You never knew, with being a Hunter…
The students went around the area, either feeding the animals, cleaning their enclosures, or weeding and watering the gardens and the plants in the greenhouse.
Peach could only look at the Digimon in wonder as they tried to help out- to various degrees of success- but none more so than Budmon. The small, pink-haired bumblebee Faunus' wings buzzed behind her as she looked over the thorny Digimon in Blake's arms in obvious interest.
Budmon didn't worry about it; she was too busy enjoying the humidity and heat of the greenhouse to care. Outside, they heard a commotion…
Blake, Peach, along with Ruby and Calumon, glanced at the entrance and saw a white rooster run just beyond the greenhouse's open entrance. The fowl was then followed by Tokomon, fangs bared and a bulging vein on his head-body to symbolize just how ticked off at the bird he was, himself being chased by Nora (who was cheering the Lesser Digimon on) and Ren, (who was trying to stop the both of them).
"Seems like Charlie finally pecked off more than he should've," idly remarked the professor.
"What was that?!" Calumon asked excitedly, having instantly fallen in love with the Farm as soon as he saw it.
"A rooster," Peach answered him, before returning to Budmon. "These thorns...I'm guessing that they have some kind of poison to them, from their coloration?"
Budmon nodded, "Yup. I can also shoot them at bad guys." Peach rubbed her chin, thinking.
"Fascinating..." Blake could only admire the older Faunus' fascination; only she could've been this interested in horticulture. She was kinda like Oobleck, but for gardening, and that she was more outwardly friendlier than her colleague.
"Why do you keep so many animals here?" asked Calumon.
"To teach us how to grow and raise our own food, just in case we need to," answered the amber-eyed girl, which made the little Digimon tilt his head in confusion.
"Food? What about the animals?" The three non-Digimon suddenly began to feel uncomfortable at the question…
"Well," Ruby began, scratching the back of her head, "the thing is..." She didn't want to upset her friend, but he had to know… "We-kinda-sorta-eat-them-too…"
"Why would you do something so mean?!" Calumon gasped at all of them in horror. Blake blinked at him in confusion.
"Then what do Digimon eat for protein?" she asked, but Budmon answered her.
"Meat apples." The two Faunus and sole human gave her blank looks. "What?"
"Meat...apples?" Peach dared to ask, finding her words.
"Yup! They're apples that taste like meat, though you need to cook them first."
"There's also the Digi-Cabbage," Calumon added, who also got his own share of blank looks.
"Digi-Cabbage," Blake deadpanned, to which the white and purple Digimon nodded.
"It's a special cabbage that grows into different flavors; you never know what each one will taste like!" Calumon then looked up, wondering… "Actually, the 'pizza' stuff we had yesterday sorta tasted like some Digi-Cabbage that I've had before..." The three just stared at him, unsure of what to say. Pizza-flavored cabbage?
Blake merely huffed, shaking her head, "The Digital World is weird..."
And just then, the rowdy group outside came back for another pass outside the greenhouse…
"Bu-bukok!"
"Get back here, you bird-brain!"
"Tokomon, no!"
"Tokomon, YES!"
/~/
Lunchtime finally rolled around, but instead of staying in the cafeteria and repeating what had happened during breakfast, they had decided to eat outside again, since the weather had continued to stay pleasant. They all sat under the tree that they ate under yesterday, each carrying their own foodstuffs and their Digimon's pile of food. Sometimes making two trips.
They could pack a lot of it away…
"Y'know Snowflake," Yang began with a cheeky grin, "you could eat and work on your tan at the same time!"
Weiss glared at the brawler before huffing indignantly, "For your information, I am perfectly fine with my complexion."
"Just thought you wouldn't want a repeat of what happened last time~"
But before the blanchette could retort, Minomon looked up at her Tamer and asked, "What happened last time?"
Before she could give a quick and dismissive answer, Blake answered, "She got sunburned," and bit into one of her two tuna sandwiches.
"It was really bad!" Nora chipped in. "Her back and shoulders were as red as a tomato!" Several of the Digimon flinched at that… They couldn't really get sunburned, but for someone as pale as Weiss Schnee to be that red? Ouch.
"She was shedding dead skin for a week!" Yang continued, only to dodge a piece of Glyph-launched food, making her laugh.
"Can we NOT talk about this?!" whined the heiress, blushing in embarrassment. "It's not my fault that I'm much more accustomed to Atlas' colder and cloudier climate."
"What's an 'Atlas?'" asked Tokomon, still chewing some tater tots. The teenagers looked at each other and silently agreed to inform the Digimon about where they were, exactly.
"There are four Kingdoms," Pyrrha began, "Atlas, Vacuo, Mistral, and the one that we're in now is Vale."
"There is also Menagerie, but it isn't considered a Kingdom, not officially," Blake cut in.
"Why not?" asked Budmon, in her lap. Blake, along with the other Hunters-in-training, grimaced a little.
"Let's just say, that there are humans that don't like Faunus very much..." The Digimon looked at each other, concerned, but decided to not go further into it if it made their Tamers uncomfortable, even if they didn't know why.
"If you're from Atlas," Gummymon began, looking at Weiss and chewing on some fried chicken, "then why are you here?"
The fencer smiled down at him with a little pride. "To attend Beacon and become a Huntress," she simply put.
"Renny, P-Money, and me are from Mistral," said Nora, pointing at her two friends and herself.
"I'm from Kuo Kuana, in Menagerie," added Blake, much to the Digimon's surprise.
"Why did you come all the way here if you're not from Vale?" Bukamon asked. "Wouldn't it be easier to go to a school that's closer instead?"
"Well, Beacon is considered the best Huntsman Academy, compared to the others," Ren replied. "Choosing the most reputable school with the best teachers and resources seemed like the best idea." The others nodded, agreeing with him. Bukamon tilted his head, accepting the answer before digging back into his lasagna.
Calumon, on the other hand, looked down at his pizza slices thoughtfully. Ruby, noticing that he wasn't eating, asked, "What's wrong?" Calumon looked up at her, but shook his head.
"Just thinking… Four Kindoms and Menagerie," he said. "It reminds me of the Five Sovereigns."
"In what way?" asked Blake.
"Azulongmon, Baihumon, Zhuqiaomon, and Ebonwumon basically watch over the four Terminal Continents and keep order over the entire Digital World, kinda like the Kingdoms."
Thinking a bit to herself, Yang asked, "What about the fifth Sovereign?" which made Calumon shiver.
"He sleeps in the Central Temple, in the North Pole. Nobody wakes Huanglongmon unless things are very bad… Like, the 'Digital World is about to be destroyed and the only thing we can do is wake Huanglongmon up' bad…" The silence was definitely noticeable…
"...He's that scary?" asked Ruby.
"He's the most powerful Sovereign and the most unpredictable," Calumon answered.
Yang chuckled, "I'd be pretty mad if I had to live in the North Pole, too."
Calumon tilted his head to the side and asked, "What do you mean?" The pugilist just blinked at him.
"...'Cause it's really cold?"
"Wisemon said that it was sunny and dry there…" But before anyone could ask a follow up question, they all heard a voice call out to them jokingly.
"Well, it seems like the freshmen finally figured out that they don't have to eat in the cafeteria." They all turned to see Team CFVY, in their school uniforms, strolling up to them. Coco Adel, wearing her signature shades and beret (and instead of wearing the typical Beacon uniform skirt, she wore pants), gave them a sly grin. "'Sup?"
Velvet Scarlatina, the brown haired, rabbit-eared Faunus, gave the group a small wave and greeted them, "Hi guys."
Ruby, excited to see their sophomore friends, zipped right up and glomped Scarlet, nearly toppling her over. "You're back!" she said happily, causing the rest of the team to chuckle and grin.
Weiss walked up to them, carrying Minomon, and said, "Where have you been?! Your mission was supposed to be over nearly a week ago!"
"It was a mess out there," Alistair Fox, a dark-skinned and scarred boy, tried to explain. "There were a lot more Grimm than there should've been."
"We actually came back last night-" Yatsuhashi Daichi, an incredibly tall and well built Mistralian boy, had begun, but was interrupted by Alistair.
"We were so tired that we just collapsed in our beds, like immediately."
"But more importantly," Coco could only comment, her eyes peeking over her sunglasses and pointing towards Minomon with an upturned hand, "it seems like the rumors were true." Her teammates looked from the bagworm-like Digimon to the others, somewhat surprised.
Jaune groaned as he fell backwards against the tree. "There are rumors about us now?!"
"With how everyone was looking at us today, it was inevitable," commented Ren.
"Everything from anti-Grimm bioweapons, stuffed toys brought to life with magic, and alien invaders," Scarlet explained.
"That's just ridiculous," Yang huffed, though Blake did give her a slightly sarcastic look…as if the current situation wasn't already ridiculous… Calumon flew from the grass-covered ground and landed on the red-hooded girl's shoulder, both curious and a little nervous… But if they're Ruby's friends, too, then he shouldn't be afraid of them, right?
"Ruby, what's an alien?" Calumon kinda-whispered to the younger girl.
"Aren't you adorable! You'd look good in a little beret…" Coco cooed, already thinking of how to dress the little Digimon in accessories, making her team, and the other non-Digimon, sweatdrop.
"What's a beret?" Ruby pointed to Coco's hat. "Oh."
…
After a few minutes of explaining, Team CFVY had been brought up to speed on what exactly had been happening before they came back.
"That is...disconcerting," Yatsuhashi said holding his chin in his hand thoughtfully, after a moment or two. His partner sat behind him, gently rubbing Calumon's ears. Velvet knew that she always liked her ears gently rubbed after a long day, and apparently so did Calmumon.
"I know what you mean," she said. "Warlords from another dimension, coming here to Remnant?"
"It's almost enough to make you want to deal with just the Grimm and bandits," added Alistair, scratching the back of his head. Coco looked between the Tamers with a worried expression. They may not have been her teammates, but the fashionista liked to think of them as her trainees, in both kicking ass and looking good while doing it.
"And you guys are smack dab in the middle of it. How are you holding up?"
"Oh, you know," Jaune began to answer sarcastically, "the fate of two worlds on our shoulders. No pressure or anything." The answer made the older girl snort in amusement.
"I think we're handling it step-by-step," answered Blake. To be honest, that was all that they could do. It wasn't like there was someone to tell them how to raise Digimon and have them fight other Digimon.
The others could only nod in agreement, with Ruby speaking up, "We'll do what we always do; we'll train and work together to get through this, no matter what." The others could only smile at the younger girl's determination.
Weiss' DV-Scroll suddenly rang, drawing their attention towards her while deflating Ruby a little bit, ruining the moment. Weiss looked at the caller ID with confusion before answering, "Winter? What are-"
["Weiss! You need to leave now! A giant red beetle was just-"]
"Slow down! What do you-" The blanchette suddenly stopped, understanding what she was just told.
"Weiss?" Minomon asked, growing nervous from her expression. But before anything could have been said, the two Faunus perked their animal ears as they heard buzzing…
"What is that?" Velvet asked, looking in multiple directions to find where the noise was coming from.
Blake scrunched her face and replied, "I don't know, but whatever it is, it sounds like it's getting closer..." And a couple of seconds later, the humans began to hear the buzzing, too.
"What the hell is that?" Yang said aloud, trying to make sure she was heard above the buzzing. Before she could be answered, a rocket-locker touched down not far from them. Weiss purposefully walked towards it, retrieving her weapon and checking the Dust vials with a quick spin.
Answering their confused looks, she said, "Digimon."
The others looked at her for a moment before their eyes grew wide in realization. But before they could call their own rocket-lockers, a large figure slammed into the ground several meters away from them, kicking up the dust.
A gentle breeze managed to clear it away, revealing a towering Digimon.
It was a giant, bipedal beetle that was covered in a red exoskeleton with greyish muscles bulging in places. It was turned away from them, so they couldn't tell what it's head looked like, but the claws on it's two pairs of arms didn't exactly give them confidence…
"[Digimon Analysis: Complete]"
The DV-Scroll said aloud, drawing the creature's attention towards the group.
"[Kuwagamon / Level: Champion / Type: Insect / Attribute: Virus / Family: Jungle Troopers / Memory Size: 7G]"
"[Description: A Champion level Insect Digimon. A ferocious Insect Digimon that uses the powerful pincers on its head to clamp onto enemies until they are cut in half. It has a rivalry with the Vaccine-Attributed Kabuterimon.]"
"[Attacks: Scissor Claw - Clamps and cuts the enemy with its pincers / Shadow Slash - Slashes at the enemy at high-speed / Crunch Arm - Crushes the enemy with its hands]"
Now fully facing them, the Hunters-in-training could only gawk at what Kuwagamon's head looked like. It too was covered in a red carapace, but he also had black markings decorated where the Digimon's eyes should've been. In between the large pair of pincers was an impossibly wide mouth, the top and bottom jaws were lined with white, pointed teeth, and it was seemingly constantly open.
If there was one word to describe Kuwagamon, it would be 'terrifying.'
As they looked at each other, everyone all had one thought cross their minds, but Tokomon was the one who managed to voice it out loud.
"Well, poop."
And like that, the red-armored Digimon roared loudly, shocking the group before lunging towards them.
...To be continued.

The dreaded cliffhanger.
Why yes, I am an asshole. Why do you ask?
Ha-haa! Sorry, but I just thought that this chapter was getting a tad too long and that you would appreciate something to tide you over until Part 3 gets posted, since I didn't post anything last time. Also, I wanted to give the fight scene against Kuwagamon the time and attention it deserves, to make it worth the wait, so hang on tight!
I hope that you liked Cardin getting beat up (no, he will not be show up again after this), at least!
Constructive criticism is always welcome.
Do NOT repost or steal. That is rude!
