All Nightmare Long
Chapter 580
Author's Note: I've been excited to do Say Yes since I saw the episode. I already knew how Jewel was going to take over from Michonne. Jewel is different then Michonne, so things and words that Michonne say and do isn't necessarily what Jewel will say and do. Shaw is based on many men that I served under 25 years ago (and I just dated myself). Not all military officials are like this, and I don't know if it changed since then, but this is combination of several men I knew. Please review it means a lot.
Jewel's POV:
Jewel put her bag in the van and turned and came face to face with Shaw. "You need to step back, I'm big on personal space."
"You both are leaving," Shaw stated with his arms crossed.
"You sound surprised, even though we told you yesterday that we were going out scavenging," Jewel said as she started to walk past him.
"Do you think the two leaders should be out of the same time? Is that the smartest thing for Alexandria?" Shaw questioned as he lit his cigar.
Jewel turned and slightly turned. "The only thing you have to worry about is going back to your people, get the weapons we agreed to, and get your people ready to fight this war. Leave what's best to Alexandria to Rick and me," she said as she started to walk back.
"I understand that you'd want some time away from the household of kids you have, which is a liability by the way," Shaw said as he puffed on his cigar.
Jewel turned and took a step toward him. "Excuse me?" She held up a hand before he could answer. "You know what, it's safer if you don't repeat calling my children liability. Rick and I are better together, and both of us know each other better then anyone else. That's why we are going out, together. We are doing it for our kids, for all the kids here, for everyone that is depending on us. Now, you need to get out of my sight, before I may do something I'll regret."
Rick stepped outside with Michonne, him holding Judith. "Everything OK?" he asked.
"Yeah, everything's fine. You ready?" Jewel asked as she went up and kissed Judith. "We'll be back soon little one. Let's go," she said as Rick handed Judith to Michonne. "Thank you," she told Michonne.
"Anytime, you know that," Michonne said as Rick and Jewel went to the van.
Rick nodded at Shaw as he put his bag in the van getting in, starting the van. "You OK?" he questioned his wife.
"I'm OK," Jewel responded as she squeezed his hand.
Next morning:
Jewel came and sat down beside Rick as he drank a cup of coffee, leaning her head on his shoulder. "I think I slept most of the night, thanks for taking watch."
Rick gave a small smile. "It's nothing, I like it," he said. He gave a small smirk as Jewel looked at him. "You can take watch tonight."
"I was planning on it," Jewel told him as she took a sip of his coffee. "We got a little lucky yesterday on supplies, do you think we'll get luckier today?"
"Oh yeah," Rick said as he kissed the top of her head. "We're going to need batteries for that walkie too, get it working again."
"Getting any prospects on the map?" Jewel asked as she looked over his shoulder.
"A few, we may be out for a few more days," Rick informed her.
"I don't mind a few more days," Jewel said. "We need this time together to regroup, recharge, reconnect. Things got rough for a while and last night was the first time in a long time we didn't have to worry about the kids, or Alexandria, or Negan. We need this," she told him as she kissed him.
"So, you don't mind a repeat of last night then?" Rick teased.
"I'd be disappointed if we didn't have a repeat of last night," Jewel answered. "We should get going," she said as she stood up.
Rick grabbed her hand and squeezed it. "We're going to find things today."
Jewel smiled. "I know, we can do anything."
Tara and Quinn's POV:
Quinn walked up to Tara as she was leaving Rosita's. "We need to talk," Quinn said.
Tara looked at her as she walked next to her. "You want to tell them about Oceanside?"
"Don't you?" Quinn questioned.
"We promised Cyndie," Tara said.
"I know, and I've been thinking about that too. But that was before we came back and found out that Negan had taken all our weapons, before we made a deal with this other group. If we keep this to ourselves, and something happens," Quinn said as she stopped herself.
"That we would be responsible," Tara told her.
"I was thinking more of feeling guilty," Quinn told her. "But we would be responsible too."
"Aren't we responsible for Cyndie too? If she hadn't went against her grandmother wishes, we may not have made it home," Tara told her.
"Yeah, we'd be dead because her grandmother wanted us dead. I get it, Tara. You don't want to break your word to Cyndie, neither do I. But we also have a responsibility to everyone here," Quinn told her. "It has to be a decision that we make together, we have to be united."
Tara nodded. "I agree with that," she said.
"Rick and Jewel won't be back for a few days, we'll talk after they get back," Quinn said as she squeezed her arm, walking away.
Tara sighed as she walked into the Grimes house and sat down.
Rick and Jewel POV:
Rick glanced at Jewel as they walked. "What's up with that smile? A couple days out and all we have to show is two guns, couple can of dented beans and a couple football jerseys, pretty much. "
Jewel smiled. "It's better than we had a couple days ago."
"It's still not enough," Rick said.
"Maybe, maybe not, but we're not sitting on our asses letting Negan walk all over us. We're out here, we're together, we're not letting Glenn and Abraham die for nothing. We're fighting, and that's enough for now," Jewel said as she squeezed Rick's hand. "As long as we're out here, we're living, we're remembering those who we lost, we're doing what needs to be done," she said with a smile.
