All Nightmare Long
Chapter 583
Author's Note: Another chapter! What? Yes, I am on a roll, plus I love this episode with Jewel and Rick. Lot's of Jick's time. So please review, it means a lot!
Rick and Jewel POV:
Rick jumped back as he saw the front half of a walker stuck in the car's windshield, the walker growling at him. He went around to the front, and started to pull on the walker, causing a foot to fall off. He finally managed to pull the walker out of the car, breaking the windshield. Rick managed to get into the front seat, but found no keys, so he started to push the car. He glanced back as Jewel joined him by pushing the back. "You got your eight walkers, I can push," he told her.
Jewel grinned at him. "That got my adrenaline running, so I can help push," she said. "Keep your eyes straight, you're the one steering."
Rick jumped in the car and started to steer. "Shit! The breaks don't work!" he yelled back at her.
Jewel sighed as she let go of the car. "Well get out!" she yelled at him as the sound of gun fire made her duck. She looked over in the direction of a walker in soldier gear being held up by stakes, his gun going off as he moved. "Well, that's new," she said as she ran toward the car jumping into the trunk closing it.
Rick managed to get the car stopped, keeping down. "Jewel you OK?"
"I'm stuck in the trunk of a car, walkers are surrounding us, I'm just peachy. You?" Jewel asked.
"Yeah, I think we overshot it," Rick told her.
"I know we overshot it," Jewel pointed out.
"It was a good plan," Rick stated.
"It was a great plan, but a horrible car," Jewel answered. "I don't plan to die in a car trunk, so you got any idea on how to get out of here?"
Rick looked up to the sunroof. "Can you push down the backseat?"
"I think so," Jewel told him.
"I'm going to push out the sunroof, climb out, you follow. Clear?" Rick asked.
"Crystal," Jewel responded, as she worked on kicking the seat down as she heard Rick on top of the car. She managed to get the seat down, climbing on top of the car with him, walking down the front of the car, stabbing a walker near her and jumping over the gate that held the ferries wheel, Rick following her. "Best spot as any right?" she asked as she took out her weapons.
"Right," Rick stated as they started taking down walkers.
"Hell's Bell's, it's going to give way," Jewel stated.
Rick moved back as the gate fell. "There it goes!" he said as they both started running. They both headed for the strength sign, pushing it down, causing a barrier.
Jewel glanced at the stuffed animals. "I'm coming back for a couple of those for the girls!" she told them as she took out a walker and Rick did the same. "That's not going to hold! We need to separate them, break them into smaller groups, the barriers may just hold," she stated.
"You take the slide, I take the Ferris wheel," Rick suggested. "Or we could just go," he stated.
"You want to go now? Now? Mr. Grimes, you better tell me your joking," Jewel told him.
Rick grinned. "I'm joking, we can do this, Mrs. Grimes," he said as they started running in opposite directions.
"Damn straight," Jewel yelled back leading walkers away. Jewel got behind her barrier raising a knife in one hand, and the hook in another, listening for Rick's sign. She started taking out walkers' as Rick took out walkers' at the ferris wheel.
Rick looked over. "How you doing?" he yelled at her.
"Eight more! What about you?" Jewel questioned.
Rick counted the walkers. "Ten," he called back. He glanced over and spotted a deer, climbing on top of the ferris wheel, taking out his colt python, aiming it, before seeing more walkers approach. He lowered his gun, to start climbing down but a piece broke, making him fall.
Jewel raised her head up, hearing the crash. "Rick!" she yelled. She jumped over the gate and ran toward where he fell. She heard gun shots and ran toward them. "Rick!" she yelled as she caught a glance of him shooting walkers. She took off the rifle she had in her bag and started firing. She caught sight of walkers eating something. "NO!" she yelled as she turned her attention to them and firing, missing her shot at the closest ones as she was in shock. The walkers' turned and moved closer to her as she moved back, before she fired at the one closer to her, determined that her children wouldn't lose both of there parents. She snapped her head as she saw Rick come out of a box, killing walkers'. "Rick!" she screamed as she killed walkers' then moved closer to him as she passed him the hook and both of them fought together. When the walkers' were defeated, she turned and looked at him before rushing into his arms.
"I'm OK," he said as he kissed the side of her head. "I'm OK," he reassured her.
"I had no doubt," Jewel said as she kissed him. "We should….," she said as she hugged him again.
"We're OK," Rick assured her. "And we should gather the weapons, then head home. Not before we grab a few of those stuffed animals," he said as he kissed her again. They started gathering the weapons, before loading them in the truck. He ran over to where the stuffed animals were and grabbed a handful. "Ready?"
"Yeah," Jewel answered as she took the stuffed animals out of his hand as she got in the passenger side. She squeezed his hand as he started to drive but didn't say anything.
Rick glanced over at her a few times before stopping the truck. "I could have gone a couple more days, I would have liked that," he told her as she looked at him. "You said I'd talk when I was ready too. I think I'm ready," he told her.
Jewel adjusted her body toward him. "I'm ready to listen," she told him.
"As you know, I haven't been sleeping," Rick told her. "I've been thinking about what we lost, thinking about our friends. Glenn saved me, right at the start and I couldn't save him. It's normal, I know that, being stuck on it. We went through something. This," he said nodding toward the weapons and food, "this doesn't cure it."
Jewel leaned over and kissed him, leaning her head on his. "I know saying sorry or that it wasn't your fault, it's not going to make it better, I wish it would, but I know it won't."
Rick kissed her again. "We're going to fight them, that's what happens next. And we're going to lose people, maybe a lot of them, maybe even each other. I saw how you reacted out there, you missed a shot, an easy shot, because you thought I was gone. Hey, look at me," he said as she moved her head away. "But even then, it'll be worth it."
Jewel looked at him. "There was a minute there, that I thought you were gone, and I froze, I did. I could have just let the walkers' take me over," she said as she fought back the tears, "but then I thought about Carl, Summer, Mika, Hope and Judy…and I knew they couldn't do without both of us, and I regained focus. I don't want to think that either one of us going to die, but I know the risks, and I knew it when I fell in love with you. I don't want to live without you, but if….if either one of us goes, the other one has to live on to take care of the kids. And, I know that's harder than it sounds, I know that."
"You said we didn't have to live under Negan's thumb, and I didn't want to fight because it might have meant losing you, and I can't live with the thought of that either. But that wasn't living, what we did back there, what we're doing now, making a future for Judith, Hope, Carl, Mika, Summer, Mitch, Glenn and Maggie's baby, fighting, that's living. You showed me that. You can lose me," he said as he kissed her. "I can lose you, we can lose our friends, people we love, it's not about us anymore. It's about a future, their future. And if it's me that doesn't make it, you're going to have to lead the others forward, because you're the one that can. You won't be alone, you'll have Daryl, Carl, Maggie, Mar, Michonne, everyone. I know you know that."
Jewel looked at him. "That's why I volunteered, in the line up…because I knew if Negan killed me, you would stop at nothing to avenge me. It would have given you the reason to fight. I didn't want to die, I didn't want to leave you and the kids, but I knew if he killed me, you would have fought."
Rick nodded as he kissed her. "It just took me longer to see that. We keep fighting no matter what?"
"No matter what," Jewel said as she looked at him.
