"Jake, c'mon, hurry up," Fin called out behind him, watching his surroundings carefully. They, for some glob-forsaken reason, were in one of the worst places to be in the kingdom. Granted, it wasn't the worst place the two had ever been, but it was fairly creepy and did not exactly had the friendliest things. The only reason they were here was because Fin had gotten bored to the point of bugging Bonnie and Marceline offer to go to this exact spot to fight monsters if he was so bored.
Of course, they did not actually suspect him to have actually gone, despite knowing that this was Fin they were talking about. So, of course, once they said something about a possible treasure hidden somewhere in the area, he grabbed Jake and they quickly went to the very place they were in. It was dark, creepy, filled with all sorts of creatures, a little smelly, and on the rating scale from "Eh, not that bad" to "HOLY SHIT LETS GET OUTTA HERE!"- the place so far seemed to be "Welp, we done goofed coming here."
"Fin, did the girls even tell you where that treasure was hidden?" Jake asked, having finished beating up a sort of big dog-cat-bear-like monster that oozed green instead of blood. "Said it was in one of these caves," he said, gesturing to about fifty different caves near them. "Yeah, cuz that's specific," he responded, glaring. "Whatever, just choose the one with the most skeletons," he said, already moving around to check them.
Soon, they finally found a cave that they deemed was possibly the right one. Walking in, hoping there wasn't going to right away be a fight, they stayed alert. stalagmites and stalactites littered the cave, numerous tunnels beginning to show the deeper they went into the large cavern. Pulling out a lantern from his bag, Fin quickly lit it and let the cave be filled with light, disrupting some bats and causing the shadows to come alive.
"Yo, Fin, check it," Jake said, pointing at something on the ground a few feet ahead. Moving over to shine the light on it, it was revealed that the yellow, stretchy dog had found a footprint of sorts. "Pfft, it's probably Marceline's prints. She's probably trying to play with us," the human said, beginning to move away and deeper into the cave. "But... Marceline floats," he points out, causing his human brother to halt in consideration. "J-just c'mon and lets get the treasure," he said, continuing to move on. As he did so, he tried to avoid looking at something out of the corner of his eyes, already knowing that it was a corpse of some sort of monster that was fresh from the stench.
Unfortunately, that became a more difficult task. As they continued to walk through the cave, more and more monster corpses filled the cave, which verified that they weren't alone. Not only that, but their wounds were... odd. Some had sword-inflicted gashes, others only had a few, small hole-shaped wounds still gushing green ooze for blood in certain places such as the head, heart area and lungs. Some had both. And it didn't seem that whomever had done the damage was injured, since there was nothing but the ooze of the monsters littering the cave.
"Huh, that other guy's smell... it's weird." "Y'know, they could be a girl," Fin said, stepping over another corpse. "Yeah, I know... but seriously, their scent's weird." "Weird how?" "Well, it kinda reminds me of humans... but something's different. I can't tell how, but the dude's not candy, vamp, or any other thing I've ever smelt before. Only thing I can think they could be is human." "How bout human?" "Nope, they don't smell like they've been livin' in water," he said, continuing to sniff the air. "Yo, Jake, look," Fin said, stopping suddenly. Kneeling down, he placed his sword down and picked up a long, light blue feather.
"What, are there bird monsters now?!" Jake asked, starting to get scared. "In a cave? C'mon, man, that ain't logic. Not only that, but if there were there'd be more feathers," he said, placing the feather in his bag before picking up his sword and continuing on. "At least we won't leave empty handed if there ain't any treasure." "And if we make it out alive," the yellow dog added, beginning to get frightened.
"Get the hell back, you freaky bastards! I'm taking this shit, and that's final!"
An unfamiliar voice, female from what they could hear, could be heard deeper in, along with roaring, slashing, crashing, and short, sharp blasts that almost reminded Fin of cannons, but was too different to be so. Giving a look to Jake and earning a mutual nod, they ran. When they arrived at the source of the sounds, they were greeted by a room lit with torches, with creatures even bigger than all the rest they've seen up to this point and an altar in the center on top of several stairs with a chest. And, to top it off, there was a girl that was probably the same age as Fin kicking their asses.
The girl herself wasn't even fighting on the ground. Leaping back and forth on their large shoulders and heads, her short, cobalt blue hair wild and being tossed around as she leapt, indigo eyes glaring so strongly that they'd probably fire daggers if they could. Her skin was odd, almost ash grey but still looked somewhat like a fair pale. She did, despite her slight inhuman traits, like a human. Even as she used a sword that appeared to be made out of some black ore with an even more black hilt with what looked to be rubies encrusted in it. She wore a black hoodie with a dep, dark sapphire blue hood and the rims of the sleeves and bottom, with dark ripped jeans covering her legs, with black industrial combat boots with several buckles covering half her calves, giving her a sort of badass look. However, at some point, while doing a backflip, she pulled something small and black out of a holster on her right thigh, switched her sword to her left hand, and aimed it at the monsters. Several sharp blasts filled the chamber, and the green ooze shot out of the creatures heads and shoulders, stumbling back before falling to the floor, limp. Growling, she delivered a painful-looking kick to one without even looking.
"Woah, who're you?!" Fin asked, causing the girl to glare in their direction. Looking shocked at them for a split second, she aimed what they now realized was some sort of gun at Fin. Before he could even protest and say he didn't mean harm, she fired several times, missing him with each one. Before he could remark she missed, he heard a thunk behind him and Jake. "This place isn't for armatures, so get out," the girl stated as she resumed fighting, having saved them from another monster. "Amatures?! Lady, do you know who we are?!" Jake yelled, joining the fight with Fin. The girl used a moment of holding back some claws with her sword to look them over, her eyes widening in realization.
"You're him, right? Fin the human?! So those rumors all over Ooo were true," she said, giving a war cry a she pushed the beast back and slashed mercilessly at it, while Fin took one that was coming for her from behind with one thrust of his sword through his chest. "Ding-ding, you win a prize, sista," he said, smirking as he removed the sword and kicked another creature in her direction. "Thanks, it's just what I wanted!" she grunted, jumping up and kicking it into another, driving her sword into both of them at once before letting them topple down.
"So, uh, you here for the treasure, too?" Jake asked, having crushed a few together by winding around them. "Yup, need it. And I have no intentions of sharing," she said, grunting as marring a blow ended up with her and Fin back-to-back. "Well, if that's how you feel, guess we'll have to take it first!" he said, giving a war cry as he lifted her over his shoulders and at the monsters. It barely phased her, with her only actions being of slicing ad firing her gun rapidly a few more times. With that, Fin made a run to the chest, noticing an opening in the ceiling above it as he lifted the heavy thing.
"Jake, time to go!" "Oh, no you don't!"
To his surprise, a flash of black and light blue launched itself at him. Fin realized that, from wisps of magic light, light blue wings had appeared on the girl, her feet against his stomach and her hands just above his on the chest, trying desperately to pry it away from him.
"Hands off, bastard, I was here first!" "Oh, then that explains how I got to the chest first!" "You wouldn't have gotten this far if I hadn't taken out all the monsters first, so you technically owe me!" "No way! I grabbed it first!" "Tough luck, the world isn't fair!" "Fin, just grab it and go!" "I'm trying!" "Pathetically! I've fought squids with tighter grips!"
With that said, and Fin's anger boiling, she took advantage and stomped her feet into his stomach, forcing him to fall down the stairs with the chest in her hands. Not hesitating, she flew quickly up to the opening in the ceiling, not looking back. And as if reading Fin's mind, Jake grabbed him and quickly extended out the hole, placing Fin down and letting the lower portion of his body follow. Not allowing himself to catch his breath, he extended his arms, catching the mysterious girl off-guard as he gripped and tugged her legs downward, causing her to yelp as she fell to the ground, falling with the chest a short distance away, on her back which had her sheathed sword, and gun in her holster, wings fading away in the same flash of light as before.
"Alright, you put up a hell of a fight, now talk. Who are you and why were you so desperate to steal our treasure," Fin said as she propped herself on her elbows, groaning as he held her at gunpoint, fairly scratched from the fall. "It's not yours, you didn't earn it. I cleared out most of those things after all. You just took advantage of my presence and stole what's supposed to be mine," she spat, glaring even stronger than before. "Yeah, yeah, whatever, we'll deal with that later, Fin. Hey, girlie, what's your name? We've never seen you before and your scent's funky," Jake said, stretching to have his face inches from hers. The last comment seemed to make her blush lightly and make her furious.
"Well, excuse me, but neither of you exactly smell like roses and lavender either, Fido," she spat back, earning a growl from Jake. "His name's Jake, actually. Now c'mon, what's your name?" Fin added, loosening his sword's stance but not letting his guard down in the slightest. "Why should I tell you?" she asked, continuing to glare as they let her stand up and brush her jeans off and adjust her hoodie, flicking a piece of grass out of the bangs of her chin-length hair. "Tell us... and we'll give you 60% of the loot," he negotiated, earning a baffled look and a noise of protest from Jake. The girl stood there, silent and not looking in their direction, contemplating her options of complying or escaping empty-handed.
"Nothin' special, just Cammi," she shrugged, dusting off some dirt from her sleeve. "Just Cammi? No title?" "How about Cammi the Nobody? Or Cammi the Drifter? Or how about Cammi the I'll stick my sword right up your-""Okay, okay, I get it," Fin said, growing nervous. Looking her over more properly, the girl had a proud stance to her, shoulders back and everything, but about a few inches shorter than him, minus the slight elevation of her boots. "Welp, now that we have that taken care of, time to open the chest," Jake said, seeming satisfied enough as he walked to the chest and began picking the lock.
"Sooo... why do you need money that badly, Cammi?" Fin asked, nervous as they waited, with her glaring at the time it was taking. "Like I said, I'm a drifter. I gotta base camp nearby somewhere and I'm running out of provisions, so I need money to stock up and some extra supplies before I ship off again," she said, making sure to be vauge about her base's location. "Huh. So you've been all over Ooo?" "Yeah... Don't exactly have a place I call home," she said as Jake called them as he opened the chest. "Finally," she said, walking over and beginning to pull a satchel out from behind her sword sheath, pulling out the strap and beginning to stuff her larger share of the gold and jewels.
"Well. This was fun, but I should be going," she said, moving to stand up. However, she suddenly clutched her head, groaning loudly in pain as well as gripping the right side of her ribcage, falling back to her knees. "Woah, you okay, Cammi?" Fin asked, kneeling beside her in concern. "Fine, just... in a bit of... PAIN!" she yelled, groaning again as she clutched her ribcage even tighter, beginning to sway as well.
"Jake, think you can give us a smooth ride to Bubblegum's castle?" Fin asked, already beginning to help the girl up as Jake flattened himself to make boarding easier as Fin laid her down. "No problem, man." "Yes, problem! I'm fine, I don't need-" Cammi cut herself off by another burst of pain. "Not a debate, we're going," Fin said, glaring as Jake began to lift them up and move in the direction of the castle.
"Why... why are you helping me? I don't need-""Shut up, you're in pain and probably have damage to your brain game. Our friend Princess Bubblegum will fix you up no problem," he said. "Princess...?" she said, seeming to tense and concerned. Fin decided to pretend he didn't hear or notice, and instead began encouraging her to relax. "Maybe you should take a nap. You probably got a bit banged up before we came along," he said, smiling as he watched the land pass them smoothly. The mysterious girl did not respond, only taking to watching the stars move pass and not letting her guard down.
