If the World was Ending

By: Nimmevh

Chapter One

I was distracted and in traffic

I didn't feel it when the earthquake happened

But it really got me thinkin', were you out drinkin'?

Were you in the living room, chillin', watchin' television?

It's been a year now, think I've figured out how

How to let you go and let communication die out

Harry drummed his fingers on the car wheel, trying to contain his ADHD enough to not burst out the window. It was bad enough that the quakes were shaking LA all over, but rain and stuck in traffic just made the day 10 times worse. Harry bounced in his seat, feeling the urge to go do something active. Instead, he turned on the radio, trying to find a decent station to listen to.

"We just got a report from NASA that the earthquakes plaguing the Earth are now proving to be more deadly than expected. Many of the quakes are actually tearing apart the earth at its center. Be prepared for the world to end soon."

Harry turned off the radio. He had kinda been expecting this report for a while, and although Sirius said to prepare for it, he had been putting it off, not really believing that the world was going to end. He unlocked his phone, scrolling through his contacts. His finger hovered over David's name, debated on whether to click it. His ex-boyfriend of now 2 days was probably with the guy he caught him cheating with, so he swiped right, thinking he would invite Hermione or Ron over. But as the screen moved, he caught a glimpse of his name: Draco. He stopped, staring at the screen. Draco was his ex he never moved past. He was his other half, his best friend, and when they broke up, his heart shattered. They had been together for 3 years, but the fights were getting out of hand and they were struggling with communication issues. But he eventually gave up hope, knowing that they were better as friends. He clicked on the name, scrolling through the 3 years of text messages between them, reading between the i love yous and the fuck offs. As he reached the end of the list, he looked at the last texts between them.

Draco: We both know we aren't meant for each other

Harry: its fine

But it hadn't been fine and it had taken him a full 3 months with lots of empty beer bottles to realize that he was never coming back. Draco had moved on and he hadn't. Every day after they had broken up, Harry was tempted to call Draco, but he stopped himself. It had gotten so out of hand that he had Ron take his phone for a week. Later, he had tried to drown his sorrows with work and wine, and eventually, he figured out how to stop communication between them. After, he had met David and thought his heart was healed again. David was nice and kind, and a great companion, but something was still wrong. He just didn't feel the same spark he had with Draco. Nevertheless, Harry had asked David out, and the rest was history. When Harry had caught David cheating on him (in his own flat, never mind him), he didn't really feel mad or sad; he just felt hollow, an empty shell of his former self. After kicking David out, Harry had slumped on the couch, beer in hand, staring at the wall. Was Harry really in love with David? Or was he just lying to himself? Harry didn't know anymore. He was tired of life. Maybe this end of the world was a blessing in disguise. At least this way, Harry didn't have to pretend anymore.

A honk wretched Harry from his own thoughts. He wondered what Dray was doing right now. Was he out drinking? Or was he chilling in the living room? Harry glanced over towards the road. The cars in front of him hadn't been moving for a while. Shit, Harry muttered. He grabbed his phone and wallet and ran for his flat.

Draco had been staring at his phone for a while now. After seeing the news report on TV and deciding that the world was going to end, he had wanted to call Seamus over. But his finger hesitated over his name. Draco and Seamus had been getting into more and more fights and lately, Draco had been wanting to break up. He just didn't feel the same around him when he felt with Harry. Harry made him laugh and was easygoing and kind. Seamus was serious and a total workaholic. When Harry and Draco had broken up, he was destroyed. He had loved Harry, but between the fights and communication issues, they just were not working. They had agreed they were better off as friends, but Dray still felt heartbroken. Harry was his other half, his best friend and he was devastated when they split. Maybe a part of him still loved Harry, after almost 2 years.

Draco directed his attention to the screen in his hands, pulling himself out of his thoughts. He was still hesitant about inviting Seamus over. Just as he was about to click the name, a text went through.

Harry? Draco thought. Harry texted me? Draco pulled up the text to see what he had texted

Harry: Hey how r u?

Draco started at the text. It had been a while since he had seen him or even heard from him. He had forgotten how bad at spelling he was. Draco had heard from Blaise that Harry had gotten a new boyfriend, David, but he had yet to meet him. But why was Harry texting him instead of David? And why was Draco going to answer? Draco stared at the bright screen, opened the text and started typing.

I know, you know, we know

You weren't done for forever and its fine

I know, you know, we know

We weren't meant for each other and its fine

But if the world was ending

You'd come over, right?

Harry couldn't believe that he answered. When Harry saw the texts exchanged between them, his fingers started moving on their own and suddenly he found himself sending a text to his longtime ex. But what amazed him even more was that he responded. Harry opened the text and read it quickly.

Draco: Good

Draco: its been a while huh?

Harry: yeh

Harry mentally face palmed himself. Yeah? That's all he could think of? Really, it was amazing that he had found someone other than Draco to put up with him.

Harry: we shuld meet up

Harry: i mean if u want 2

Harry: sry im rlly bad at this

Harry: arrgggggg

Harry: wat im trying to say is i kinda miss u

Harry: and want 2 meet up

Draco could almost see his sheepish grin as he read his texts. He had forgotten how much he missed just texting him and seeing all his silly messages as he opened up his phone every day.

Draco: don't you have a boyfriend?

Harry: u mean david? Nope he cheated

Harry: and i broke up w him

Draco: sorry about that

Harry: naw its all good

Harry: i didnt rlly like him that much anyways

Harry and David? Draco tried to remember what Blaise had said about him. Although he was really nice and kind, he was always concentrating on work, a lot like Seamus. Draco felt relieved when he realized they had broken up. And then he felt mad at himself for feeling relieved.

Harry's text pinged through

Harry: just for old times?

Harry: we can meet at my place?

Draco's mind scrambled to place where this was going. Why did he want to meet up? Did he want him back because David cheated on him? Or did he just want to meet up as friends? Or, on a completely unrelated topic, did Harry want to meet up because of the quakes? Draco had no clue what to think of the completely irrational text. One part of him said no. They had broken up, a long time ago, and Draco didn't want to relive old memories. On the other hand, though, the world was ending, Draco's boyfriend was at work, and Harry texted him. Why not? Why should Draco not go over? After a few seconds thought, Draco grabbed his coat, a bottle of wine, and his keys.

A/N: That's it! Chapter one everybody! Thanks for being patient with me, as this is my first fanfic, but I hope you enjoyed it! Review please! Any criticism -good or bad- is welcome, because it can help me improve (you can check out my A/N at the beginning also for more on reviewing, I wrote a whole spiel there). I don't have an updating schedule right now, but I hope that the more people review and read, the more I should be able to update. I will try to update at least once a week, but again this is just a test run. If people are reading and reviewing, I will consider continuing this, but for right now, this is just a single chapter. Hope you enjoyed this and stay safe!
