Since last chapter we got to see things from Dawn's perspective, this chapter we will see things from Lucas' perspective. Enjoy!

Chapter 2: His First Day

The boy felt a slight tapping at his shoulder followed by, "Lucas, it's time to get up."

The boy known as Lucas shifted his position in his bed and pulled the comforter over himself. It was the first time he had been woken up this early to go to school since he had been homeschooled and the schedule was quite different.

Recently his parents had thought that sending him to a trainer's school would be a good idea as it would help the boy socialize with kids his age instead of being cooped up inside his house all the time. Lucas was not opposed to the idea, but he was still afraid of making a fool of himself in front of everyone. He had never been the most social person after all as he mainly interacted with the housekeepers in his home and although he got along well with them, his parents thought that meeting people from all walks of life would be beneficial to him.

He heard a sigh followed by more tapping on his shoulder. He lost the battle against one his housekeeper, Alice, as Lucas lifted his head out of the comforter to be greeted with her familiar presence.

As always Alice was wearing the standard housekeeper uniform which consisted of a simple long-sleeved dress shirt, a black knee length dress and black shoes. She was a woman that was in her late twenties and she said that she had looked over Lucas ever since he had been born. Honestly, Lucas considered her to be his second mother.

"Oh, great you're up Lucas. I laid out your clothes for you so get changed as soon as you are ready. Alfred is making you a delicious meal," she said in a cheery tone.

Lucas managed a groggy nod. He sat up on his bed, ridding his eyes of the remaining shards of sleep. After another minute he got up and begun to get dressed. Alice had set out for him his usual attire of a white long sleeve button up shirt, a black tie, black shorts, a navy-blue sleeveless sweater and black shoes and socks. He was sure it was fine to wear these clothes at his school since it did not violate any dress code guidelines. He had often found himself being dressed in similar manner to his father.

Part of this came from the fact that his old teacher was quite strict when it came to dress code and she always wanted the boy to wear formal attire when she taught him. Another reason came from the fact that the young boy viewed his father as a role model. The boy greatly admired his father's charisma, warm personality and outstanding charm, but Lucas did however wish that he could spend more time with father. He could barely recall the last time he and his father had their signature 'father son day'.

The most recent time that the boy could recall having alone time with his father was over a year he had been taken to Sunyshore city where they explored the many attractions the city had. Lucas knew that his father had taken him along so he could see all the new innovations and technologies the city was developing along to "get some business done", but he didn't let it bother him. He was glad that he had got to spend time with him.

He snapped out of the trance to enter his bathroom where he would brush his teeth, comb his hair, and wash his face.

When he was done, he headed towards the dining room. This home was much smaller than what he was accustomed to. His parents had originally planned to send him to the trainer school in the city his old home was in, but they decided against it since it was a huge city, and the people may overwhelm the reserved boy. So instead, it was decided he would attend school in the small town of Twinleaf since it was much quieter and friendlier.

Because of this, his father had sent out for this house to be built in preparation of Lucas's school attendance. It was designed to fit nicely into the town while also having special buildings constructed that would not only remind Lucas of his old home but also benefit everyone living in the home. This included the addition of solar panels to the roof, windmills, a greenhouse, a barn and plants that grew from around the region. The home was also outfitted with a variety of gardens and pokemon statues. Because the home was quite large, Lucas had been accompanied by some of the staff his old home, this included the housekeepers Alice and Liam, and the head chef Alfred. The remaining workers were recently hired from the town and they tended mainly to the outside of the home such as the greenhouse, gardens, pokemon and barn.

Lucas got a laugh imagining his father frantically and meticulously drawing out the designs for the home and the surrounding property. His father wanted to make sure that the home was perfect for the arrival of Lucas and as soon as finished the designs, construction had started mere minutes later.

He made his way to the dining room where he noticed Alfred finished setting up his meal. Alfred was a jolly old portly man that had worked as the head chef of Lucas' old home since the time of Lucas' grandfather. He always had a positive attitude and made everyone around him cheer up.

The table was large enough to sit six people, yet he would be the only one seated there as his parents were always away and it was considered customary for the staff to eat after the home's master. It had been quite a while since he had at least had a meal with one of his parents. Sometimes the boy would invite the staff to enjoy a meal with him, so he did not feel lonely.

"Oh, good morning Lucas, how are you today?" Alfred asked. He had just finished placing the last food items on the table.

"Oh I'm doing just great Alfred. As always thanks for the meal." Lucas bowed giving his thanks to the chef.

"Oh no need to be so modest my boy. Come on sit and enjoy. If you need anything don't hesitate to call me over."

Lucas nodded and took his seat at the head of the table. As opposed to his old home where the dining table was lined with intricate golden candlesticks and a large crystal chandelier hanged above the table, this table's only decoration was the floral base in the center and a couple of candles.

As Lucas was eating, Alice had come in to deliver two letters to him along with two small boxes. Lucas accepted the letters and waited until he was done eating to open them.

Alfred had come back in a couple minutes later and asked the boy if he wanted seconds and Lucas said he was feeling full. He was never really big eater after all. After a couple more seconds, Alfred cleared the table, so Lucas got to reading the first letter.

Even though cell phones existed, Lucas preferred receiving letters since he thought they were more personal than receiving text messages from his parents. Contrary to popular belief, letters could be delivered in a matter of seconds through the Sinnoh Region Post Service. To achieve this speed, psychic pokemon used teleport to send correspondence to the mailboxes of any home. The old method of using Staraptor and Pelipper to deliver correspondence was still around, but it was not as widespread as it used to be.

He opened the first white envelope and Lucas got to reading the handwritten letter. It read:

Dear Lucas:

I'm sorry that I won't be able to see you off to school today. I really wanted to but sometimes as you know work can just be overwhelming. Again, I'm sorry I won't see you today but I hope that soon we can have a father son day. I have also sent Tyr in his pokeball so he can keep you some company if you feel down.

There's also a gift from me. As you may know we have been developing bags for trainers so that they can carry larger amounts of items and I'm glad to say that the technology has been perfected. I have sent two backpacks and your mother was able to pack them with all the items she thought you would need so just pick your favorite. As always, I hope you have a great first day and I hope to see you soon.

Sincerely

Your father, Daniel Diamond

P.S: As always make sure you dress nice and make a great first impression. As I always say, 'A Gentleman should always be presentable.' Your mother has also packed too many items in the bags but don't worry about the weight as the backpacks will feel as light as a feather. Also, how are you enjoying the new house? Pretty nice huh? I think I outdid myself this time.

Lucas cracked a small smile at the last part but then let out a sigh. He picked out the small box that came with the letter. He opened it up to reveal the shape of a pokeball. Lucas grabbed it and allowed the pokemon inside to materialize. Once the pokemon was done materializing, the boy came face to face with a pokemon he was quite familiar with. The pokemon in question was one that his family was well regarded for raising for generations. Whenever, his dad came to visit, the Lucario would leave his pokeball to greet the boy.

The Lucario looked at the young boy before placing a paw on his chest and offering a courteous bow. It was like his is way of saying that he would in the boy's hands from now on.

"It's nice to see you too Tyr," Lucas said in a kind voice. He walked over the pokemon, who was taller than the boy, and offered the pokemon a soft pat on the head. The pokemon bowed again before Lucas returned his attention back to the second letter and the other items.

Lucas opened the second letter to reveal that it carried a similar message to the first. Just like the first it was handwritten. It read:

Dear Lucas

I'm so sorry Honey that I won't be able to see you off to school today. Work just has me beaten up and after yesterday's victory I will have to train even more if I even want a shot at winning the Grand Festival. Don't worry though, as soon as I find some free time, I will rush straight home so we can spend some time together. Your father and I both agreed to send you some of our pokemon to keep you company. Make sure to treat Faith and Cupid nicely now and don't be mean to them! As always, I love you!

Sincerely

Your Mother, Maria Diamond

P.S: If it's chilly then don't hesitate to take a jacket with you. Also dress nicely. Also make sure you eat a good meal; you wouldn't want to feel hungry throughout the day now would you. Make sure your hair is completely dry before going outside. Oh, and don't walk around barefoot. Bye, I love you Sweetie!

He crumbed the letter in his hand, upset that the promise his mother mentioned a week prior could not be fulfilled. Tyr looked at the boy with a worried expression before Lucas let out another loud sigh. He shook his head and rationalized that it was his own fault for getting his hopes up. After all, when your parents are always busy, they do not always have time to spend with family.

His attention was then directed to the second box that revealed the shape of two pokeballs once it was opened. He grabbed the one on the right to release the graceful form of Gardevoir, who like Tyr before her, offered her own greeting by doing a curtsy.

Lucas offered a smile and a small hand waving gesture at the pokemon, then directed his attention to the second pokemon. The pokemon materialized, revealing the form of the playful Togekiss that the boy would sometimes see on his mother's television appearances.

The pokemon didn't hesitate to lunge at the boy and catch him a tight hug as well as offering a tickle attack. The boy was laughing loudly at the sudden attack, struggling to keep his laughter from being too loud.

"Ah! Cupid stop!" he yelled out through his laughter. The pokemon kept tickling him for a couple more seconds and decided he had done his job in cheering up the boy. Cupid then moved to stand alongside the other two pokemon and offer his greetings to the Lucario.

Lucas' laughter had calmed down and he sat back down to regain his composure. He saw the three pokemon's antics, such as making funny faces and providing comedic sketches for the boy to enjoy. He came to the realization that he wasn't doing anyone any good by acting all gloomy, so he decided to change his attitude for the time being. Instead of seeing this day as a wasted opportunity, he would see it as an opportunity to meet some new people, and maybe even make a friend or two in the process.

He nodded half confidently and went back to the larger box and opened it to reveal two backpacks. The backpack to the right was a yellow color with a large black pokemon emblem in the center(DP backpack). The one to the left was white with dark blue accents around the edges and a pokemon emblem in the center in the same dark blue color(Platinum backpack).

He tilted his head curiously to the right, trying to make sense of the backpacks. His dad had said that his company had developed new backpacks for trainer's use, but these didn't look much different from any other backpack the boy had seen. It wasn't until he opened one that he realized what was special about these bags.

He started taking the items out trying to to not make a mess in the process but failing. Like his father's letter had said, the backpack had been clearly packed by his mother. The boy pulled out a total of twenty jackets, multiple changes of clothes, sunblock, snacks, a tent, sleeping bag, winter boots, umbrellas, raincoats, pillows, blankets, a stove top, safety gear, cooking equipment, first aid kit, a mini fridge and least surprising of all, school supplies. He thanked Arceus that each item had its own compartment so he wouldn't accidentally pull a bike indoors. He could already hear some old man from a far-off region condemning Lucas' actions.

"Oh Lucas, you should be heading out now, you wouldn't want to be late. Why don't I walk you?" The boy heard from the other side of the room.

He lifted his head up from the backpack to see Alice again. She had changed out of her usual uniform and into something more casual for the walk to school.

"Ah right," he nodded. He turned to look at the three pokemon then said, "I hope you guys are able to put up with me."

The three pokemon happily nodded and went on their way about the home. He chose to use the white backpack as opposed to the yellow one since the yellow one had already had all its items taken out. He placed the backpack over his shoulders and made his way to stand beside Alice.

Before they could exit however, the boy heard, "ah Lucas my boy, don't forget your lunch." The form of Alfred exited the kitchen carrying a blue insulated lunchbox. "I'm not sure if your school will give you lunch, but it never hurts to try. I made all your favorites so eat up once you're hungry."

"Oh thanks Alfred," Lucas responded. The took the lunchbox from the older man and placed it inside his backpack.

"Don't mention it my boy," he began. "Besides, I think your mother would have a heart attack if she found out you went to school without any lunch," he joked.

Both Lucas and Alice offered a smile at the chef before saying their goodbyes and making their way out of the home. Before they could exit, Lucas' eyes caught sight of the fireplace that had a picture of him and both of his parents standing next to him. Standing to his right stood a petite, beautiful woman with long dark blue hair and blue eyes. She was wearing a white summer dress along with a floral straw hat. The man standing next to the boy was tall and handsome man with dark gray hair and dark gray eyes as well. He was wearing a long sleeved light blue dress shirt with a white shirt underneath and khaki shorts. The boy in the middle was wearing khaki shorts like his father but he wore a Chatot t-shirt.

The picture had been taken over a couple months ago, in the summer when the family visited the Valor Lakefront.

"Lucas, you coming?" He heard come from the door.

The boy's attention was snapped away from the picture. He realized that he had been staring at it for perhaps a bit too long and quickly made his way towards Alice who was standing in front of the open door. He nodded and the two walked down the entrance into one of the gardens. In front of them was the street where many parents were walking their children to school.

Lucas stopped to look at the one the flowers. He recognized this flower since his mother had mentioned it to him. She had said that this particular flower is named Gracidea and it is native to the northern part of the region where she was from. His mother had told him how you would give this flower to someone to wish them good luck and happiness. Since the flower had newly been added to the garden this was the first time that Lucas had seen it in person. Before he could delve further and examine its features, he felt a hand on his shoulder and was brought back to reality. He saw that Alice was motioning to the streets and he had gotten the message that it was time to go.

They made casual talk along the way. Alice had asked the boy how he was feeling about school and he responded that he was feeling excited, but also afraid since it would a new experience for him. She lightened his mood up by telling him about all the antics she did when she went to school.

Children were already playing around the school grounds and especially the playground when they arrived. Some teachers were speaking with some parents, probably welcoming them back from the summer vacation, while some parents just simply dropped their children off, probably glad that they no longer had to put up with them for eight hours each day.

Alice offered the boy a reassuring tap on the shoulder and said, "don't worry about a thing, I'll come pick you up in the afternoon or I can send someone to do it if you want."

Lucas nodded and turned his attention back to the school grounds. He took his first steps in and he could feel something retching in his stomach. For some reason he felt like there were many eyes upon him and it made him feel uncomfortable. The grabbed his backpacks straps and made his way towards the wall where all the student's names were posted. He scanned each sheet to find that he had been placed in class '1-3.' The first number stood for the grade level, meaning he was in first grade, while the second number stood the group of students in that class.

He looked back at the schoolchildren noticing that they were giving him some odd looks and decided it would be best to head to class. He didn't feel comfortable being with so many people he didn't know.

He made his way down the hallway noting all the colorful and fun posters hanging on the wall. Anything from recommending books to read to what would be served for lunch on that day. This was a completely new experience to him, and he continued looking around until he found the class that read '1-3'. He knocked on the door to see if he could get any response. When no response came. He thought that he was just early and took a seat next the classroom. He soon took out a book to keep him entertained.

This book listed the many known species of pokemon from the Kanto Region to the far off Galar Region. It was a book filled to the brim with all known knowledge of pokemon such as their types, habitats, egg groups, average height and weight etc. Of course, this was a children's version with many colorful pictures. The adult version was not as nice to look at.

He read for a good twenty minutes before he heard the voice of man come from his left. "Ah I'm guessing you must be the new student."

The man was wearing a white dress shirt underneath a navy-blue cardigan and khaki pants. He was also wearing a black tie and black dress shoes. He appeared to be in his mid-twenties and was also quite tall with a handsome face with messy mid length hair and light brown eyes.

Lucas stood up and offered his own greeting. "Yeah… I am the new student. My name is Lucas. Nice to meet you."

"Lucas eh. Well my name is Mr. Evans, and I will be your teacher this year. Nice to meet you too." He offered the boy a friendly handshake. Lucas returned the handshake.

"I see that you were quite early. Normally we would tell the students to wait outside or in the library but since it's your first day don't think too much about it. Say, now that you're here, why don't you stay out here while I gather the rest of the class. You can introduce yourself once everyone is in," he suggested.

Lucas nodded and saw Mr. Evans go down the hallway. He stood against the wall continuing from where he had left off. The bell had rung shortly after the had decided to continue reading. He could see the students already starting to enter their respective classrooms. He decided to return to his reading in the meantime.

Mr. Evans had come by with a line of students behind him. Many of them eyed the boy with curious eyes while others paid him no mind. After a minute Lucas heard, "Lucas let me get the class settled for a minute and I'll call you in ok?"

Lucas managed a nod as the teacher entered the classroom and began to return the students from their summer vacation. The welcoming speech didn't last long, and the boy heard groans coming from the inside. After a couple more seconds, he heard, "and with that I would like introduce someone. Come on in."

Lucas took that is his cue to enter the room. The felt a sudden feeling of dread when all the students had laid eyes on him. The relieved this anxiety by facing the teacher who handed the boy a marker. He eyed it curiously, confused as to why he had been handed a marker.

Huh? Is it customary to hand new students markers? Is this some sort of ceremony?

"Pstt, Lucas write your name on the board and introduce yourself," Mr. Evans whispered.

Oh, so that's it. Lucas felt embarrassed, he quickly grabbed the marker and turned around to write his name on the whiteboard. After he was done writing it, he handed the marker back and turned to face the class. He took deep breath before proceeding.

"Hello, my name is Lucas Diamond, it's nice to meet everyone." He offered the class a polite a bow as well.

The class eyed him for a second and the teacher spoke up. "Lucas just moved in from the big city and this will be his first-time attending school so please show him the ropes and be nice. Lucas if you don't mind there's an empty seat by the window." He pointed over to the window.

Lucas offered a nod and made his way over to the seat. As he walked, he noticed that his classmates had not taken their eyes off him. He specially noticed a girl with blue hair sitting from the other side of the room staring at him.

He hoped that everything would turn out smoothly and he could make some friends.

AN: so this was Lucas' point of view of his first day of school. I honestly channeled all my inner anxiety that I experienced when going to school for the first day. I'm sure everyone has felt that at some point in their life. Next chapter we will see some more interactions between Lucas and Dawn!

Hope you enjoyed and look forward to the next one!
