"I suppose I should explain." The djinn says. His eyes glaze over as if he's recalling good memories. "Thirteen years ago, when you were just a toddler, I met your mother. She was a fiery one back then, and I loved her the moment I met her. We flirted a bit, hung out a few times, but when I tried to make her mine, she rejected me.
Now, I knew she was just playing hard to get. So I kept advancing. She kept retreating. She was a very good actress, your mother. Made it seem like she didn't want me at all! Can you imagine?" He throws his head back and laughs, as if anyone rejecting him is a ridiculous concept.
Oh, my god. I think. The almighty djinn is a fuckboy.
The fuckboy in question paces in front of me and continues his story. "Eventually, I could wait no longer. I met up with her on a cold night in November. We talked for a while, and then I finally did what I had come there to do. She resisted in the beginning, but I knew that she would thank me for initiating this in the morning. Yet, in the morning, she was gone. I waited for a few days, because I knew she must be overwhelmed, but she did not contact me again. Eventually, I tracked her to your house⦠and saw her taking a pregnancy test.
"Of course, I was overjoyed. I was having a child! I confronted your mother, and I told her who I really was. If we were to run away and elope, she would have to know my true identity. But to my shock, she kicked me out. And a few days later, when I came again, the house was empty."
"What the fuck?!" That's the only thing I can manage to say. I'm still trying to process all of the things this man has told me. And I'm also still trying to figure out who this man is. From my classes with Claire, I can deduce that he's probably the alpha djinn.
"Do you know how long it has taken for me to find my daughter!?" The alpha djinn asks me, his voice rising in volume as he becomes more agitated. "Thirteen years! Thirteen! But now, now that I have finally found her, I will take her back! I will teach her everything I know, and she will be the most powerful djinn our world has ever seen!"
My brain finally catches up on everything he's been saying, and the truth about my sister's inception sinks in. "Oh my fucking god. You RAPED my mother! She had a husband! She had a child! You fucking monster! And now you want to steal my SISTER away from me? NO! You will never, EVER get her. You are not her father. You're just a bitch that couldn't take no for an answer!"
The alpha djinn snaps to face me. Blue light flares around his entire body, and he grabs my jaw, hard. "What. Did. You. Say?" He hisses.
"I said, you are no one's father." I spit the words out, lacing them with poison. "You're just a whiny bitch that doesn't understand the meaning of the word no."
CRACK. I fall to the ground as the djinn socks me in the jaw. "Foolish mortal! You do not understand who you are speaking to! I am more powerful than you could ever dream to be! I could kill you with a thought, bring you back with less!"
I stagger up, spitting out blood and clenching my fists. "Oh, I know exactly who I'm talking to. You're the alpha djinn. I heard that Crowley almost caught you back in 2010. Shame he didn't. The world would have been a better place without you in it."
The alpha scowls and grits his teeth. "Why, you insolent-"
He doesn't finish his sentence, because I shoot him. I stole the gun from Sam, and it was hidden under my coat. This was the first chance I had gotten to use it.
The force of the shot pushes his shoulder back a few inches, but sadly, it doesn't seem to hurt him. Instead, he charges toward me with renewed intensity. I fire a few more shots at him, but they don't faze him at all. I'm hoping that someone will hear the gunshots and come help me, but I can't count on that. Instead, I put the gun back in my jacket and run.
I hear the crunch of leaves and the bite of profanities behind me as the alpha djinn races after me, but I have a head start and a first place cross-country track medal. I know it's only a matter of time before he catches up with me and probably kills me, but I'm doing all I can to get back to Sam, Nydia, and Aatami.
"Help!" I yell, jumping over a log. "Sam! Aatami! Nydia!" I risk a glance behind me and see that the djinn is closing in fast. In a couple more feet, he'll be able to touch me. I turn back around and redouble my speed, but that only lasts for so long. Pretty soon, I'm back at my normal pace, and getting slower by the second. I try to take the hardest path I can see, because I know it'll slow down his big, muscular body more than it'll slow down my short, lithe one.
I reach the biggest burr oak, and I think I can see the corner of Sam's flannel from around the tree.
"Sam!" I yell. "Djinn!" Sam comes around the corner, and his eyes widen as he sees the man chasing me. He rushes in front of me, pulls out a silver dagger dipped in lamb's blood- how the hell does he even have that- and stabs the alpha djinn.
The dagger seems to hurt the djinn more than the bullets did, but it still doesn't kill him. He simply pulls it out, wncing a little bit, and says, "While I could take you on, and kill all of you very easily, I still have use of you."
He turns towards me. "Next time I see you, you will bring my child. No more country bumpkins. You'll know when to find me." And with that, he disappears into the trees.
A/N: I'm so sorry guys! I honestly don't really have an excuse, I'm just a massive procrastinator. I hope this chapter makes up for it! Not gonna lie, I love angry Delilah. Her dialogue probably sounded better in my head, though. I'm not a great judge of my own writing. Thank you for reading, and please follow, favorite, and review!
