Love Struck Delusion

Chapter 49 – We Lost So Much.

Raptor's POV, Iraq Capital Building.

Approaching the door leading up to the main floor of the Capital, I crept up to the knob to slowly begin opening it. On the other side it appeared to be clear.

Gently pushing my way out into the hall, I looked to the opposite side to see a pair of G.U.N soldiers heading the other way.

Quickly tuning up my pace, I moved to the end of the hall to peer right.

"Where am I?" I asked myself as I looked around the area to try and figure out the answer to my own question.

From what I could tell this appeared to be the logistics side of the capital. Office rooms and general paper pushing cubicles lined the hall. Each person had their own office. There was nothing of use to me around here right now though. Monroe would be upstairs.

As I continued to move quietly throughout the halls, I came to a corridor that connected the front entrance of the capital to the stairs leading up to the second floor. But as I looked around the area I saw the stairs were being guarded by a squad of men. From what I could see the leader was a wolf of some type. He looked like a veteran to the military. Getting by him was not an option. Even if I stole a uniform I'm sure he knows everyone who is manned here. I would be made in a second. And the last thing I'm gonna do is fight through them.

"Fuck." I mumbled to myself as I tried to think of something else. Their has to be another way up to that floor. Can't just be one set of stairs.

Heading back the way I came, I looked towards the corner of the building's interior to find a fire escape. This had to connect to the second floor.

Looking behind me as I opened the door, I quickly entered to run head first into a small fox.

"What the...?"

Not giving him the chance, I sent my right palm into his mouth to push him against the wall.

"Drop it." I ordered him under my strength as he was clearly scared and confused.

Letting his gun lower to the floor next to the stairwell, I used my left hand to disarm his blade and his M9. Placing them next to his rifle, I whispered.

"Try anything and I'll kill you right now. Do you understand me?"

Nodding as I held his mouth shut, I asked.

"Are you alone?"

Nodding once to my question, I overlooked his belt to see he had cable ties in a pouch. Grabbing one, I ordered.

"Turn."

This kid was clearly going to listen to me. He looked like he was eighteen and he had no experience with an actual threat to his life. His light green fur was shaking as I turned him around to tie his hands together.

"Sit." I ordered him as I sent him down on the stairs.

Looking up into my eyes, I asked.

"Why are you here?"

The kid was scared. He hesitated, but soon replied.

"I was...I...I..?"

"Calm down." I urged him as he took a breath.

"I was going to my barracks. Who are you?" He asked as I replied.

"Someone you don't want to know. But I'm the one asking the questions. Who are you?"

"Aiden."

"Well Aiden you picked the wrong night to head down these stairs." I stated as I reached for my M1911.

His eyes went wide as I rested it on my leg."

"You're gonna kill me?"

I didn't answer that. Instead I asked.

"Where's General Monroe?"

The fox was now completely scared and replied.

"In his office I think. He'll be heading to bed soon though. Why? Please don't kill me. I won't tell anyone you were here. I swear!"

"Shhhh." I ordered him calmly as he gulped.

"How long till he heads to bed?" I wondered as I made sure my suppressor was on tight.

Watching the gun closely he replied.

"I don't know. Not long. What do you want?"

Looking into his brown eyes, I replied.

"I'm going to kill him. But I can't be caught clearly. Otherwise that might be bad for me."

"Kill him? Are you with the Rebellion?"

Looking to my shoulder; I asked while turning it to him.

"Does this answer your question?"

Looking to my old Rebellion patch, he replied in fear.

"I don't have a problem with the Rebellion sir. Please don't hurt me. I promise I won't say a word to anyone."

"I appreciate that kid I do. But you need to understand something. I can't trust you. What's to stop you from raising the alarm on me the second I cut that tie on your hands?"

The kid was silent as I pointed the gun at him.

"No I can't take any chances right now. You may be innocent and maybe you may not say a word to anyone...but I can't chance that. Understand my position here."

With my gun on his forehead he shook almost out of his seat to beg.

"I don't want to die. I just joined the army to prove to my parents I could do something more then hold down a retail job. I'm only here because I want to be someone. Please don't kill me!"

Aiden began to cry as I held off the trigger to stare into his eyes.

With his eyes closed, I lowered the gun to get down to his level on the stairs.

"Look at me." I ordered him as he continued to cry.

"Aiden." I said in a serious tone as he slowly began to open his eyes. Looking into my eyes I said.

"I'm not going to kill you."

"But...but...?" Reaching for his blade that was resting on the stairs, I cut the tie on his wrists to get a confused look from him. Placing it back in his vest, I reached for his M9 to put it in his holster.

"You wana be something?" I asked him.

Nodding slowly he replied.

"Yes."

"Then look at yourself now and decide what's worth fighting for. If your parents knew what was truly going on over here they would see that the Rebellion is worth fighting for. You may hear lies from G.U.N so let me tell you the truth about us."

The kid continued to look me in the eyes as I stated.

"The Rebellion is not a terrorist group. We do not kill civilians and we fight for what we believe in. The past war it was for freedom. Now it's for our country. Everyone who joins us is fighting for the kids of the future of the Middle East. And we would all gladly give our lives to the cause knowing in the end we will all be free one day from G.U.N rule. Shadow Robotnik did it once. I will be the second. But this time it will stay a reality. My people will be free and I will be there when G.U.N finally falls to us. Once my kids can live happily without threat looming over them will I die. Are you understanding what I'm saying? We are the good guys. But people like Monroe and Linnen are looking to kill our way of living. It will not happen. You hear me?"

Nodding the kid replied.

"Yes sir. I understand."

"Good." I replied as I switched my M1911 to my left hand to clutch my right into a fist.

"Once Iraq is free you'll truly be able to understand what I meant here today. Maybe you'll decide what is really right in the world to fight for. Even if you don't want to fight, you may be able to see what side is worth being on." I said softly as I looked back into his eyes to urge.

"Now kid please don't take this personally. But I have a job to do. And I still can't take chances."

"I understand." He replied with a hint of fear still as I nodded.

"Good...good."

With our eyes locking one last time, I sent a hook at his nose. The kid widened his eyes as my knuckles came in so fast and so hard to hit him dead on the button.

"Bash!"

Knocking him out cleanly, I let out a sigh to shake off my fist. Collecting myself, I slowly walked over his body to head up the stairs. As I reached the top, I looked back down to see him out cold.

That kid proved to me just now that not everyone has to die. Some are just here to prove something to themselves or others. Not everyone is an enemy.

Turning away, I opened the door to enter into the next hallway.

With the kid still on my mind; I tried my best to locate Monroe's office. The second floor seemed a bit more dead then the first, but that's probably because this is where all the officers on duty are. Most of them are probably asleep.

As I reached the end of the hall I was in, I peeked into the next corridor to spot a door to the left about fifty meters down. A single soldier manned it. That had to be Monroe's office.

My intent might be to just rush it. It's one kid. I can take him.

Over thinking the plan, I panicked as the door to the office opened with Monroe making his way out of it to look at the man at the door.

"When Captain Rose reports in you come get me. You understand?"

"Yes sir." He replied as Monroe nodded and made a left away from me to head down the hall. His room must be down there. Now was my chance to get him alone.

Watching as the kid who manned the office was disbanded and left down the main stairs. I took my chance to follow Monroe. Having to pass the same stairs, I looked down as I passed to see that wolf again. He was watching the other way, but as I almost made it across he appeared to have turned to look my way. I saw his eyes try and depict me as I quickly made my way across to pick up my pace.

Lieutenant Record's POV.

Turning around completely to look up the stairs, I asked the private who came down the stairs next to me.

"Did you see anyone other then Monroe when you left kid?"

Shaking his head, he replied in confusion.

"No sir. Why?"

Picking up my rifle; I replied while heading up.

"Stay here. I'll be back. I wana check this out."

"Okay sir." He replied as I walked my way up to look right.

Catching a glimpse of a leg turning the corner into the officer's barracks, I began to pick up my pace.

Now in a jog after the unknown presence, I turned into the officer's barracks to see Monroe entering his quarters.

"What the...?"

In utter confusion of what I thought I saw, I panicked as I was grabbed by the neck and dragged into a room to my near right side.

Losing my rifle immediately as I was tossed inside, I looked up to see an older gray hedgehog dressed in Rebellion gear and wearing a brown bandana. My eyes widened as he tossed a hook at me.

Quickly ducking under it, I charged under his chest to pick him up off his feet.

In force I brought him back first onto the ground under us to reach for his gun that was now down next to us. A silenced M1911. His eyes immediately caught my actions and as I picked it up he sent his head forward to hit me directly in the nose. Instantly I fell backwards and stumbled the gun.

Now with a bloody nose, I quickly looked back up to see him going for my neck.

Pulling me back up to my feet, I responded with a quick jab.

"Bash!"

Drilling him in the right side of his face, I took advantage of the moment and went for my blade. However the second I drew it the hedgehog slapped it away with a heavy cross of my hand; and followed it up with a kick directly to my chest. The force sent me on my back and I began to panic as he came at me in speed.

Looking to my side, I saw the gun again and instantly lunged for it; letting it rest firmly in my hand as I turned back to point it at him.

"Toof! Toof! Toof!"

Letting three rounds off into his chest, I widened my eyes as he kicked it out of my hand. Watching as the gun hit the wall, I had no idea what was coming next till I turned back at the bleeding hedgehog.

Raptor's POV.

Sending my knife downward, I cut clean into his chest to watch as his eyes widened in pain.

Resting my palm on his mouth as I turned the blade in his heart. The wolf let out a muffled scream of agony.

"Shhhhhh! You fuck!" I ordered him as I kept him down on his back by force.

It took more then I thought, but slowly he began to go still. I knew it was over the second his eyes looked hollow to me.

Ripping out the knife, I let out a breath of my own to look at my chest. Thankfully none of the rounds he hit me with went through my vest. But the sheer force was enough to get me to bleed from it.

Wiping my mouth off, I took a moment to put my knife back in it's sleeve. Then slowly I looked back to see my gun.

"Fucker." I mumbled as I picked it up.

Standing back on my feet, I coughed gently. I knew something like this was bound to happen. Thankfully no one heard all that. Taking one last look at the wolf, I made my way back in the hall to look towards Monroe's bedroom. That fuck was next.

General Monroe's POV.

Placing my revolver down on my nightstand, I took off my jacket to get settled in for the night. I got no word of Black or his team and Linnen isn't answering his phone for some god damn reason. This was a fucked up time for me and the people who followed me. And it's all because of that man.

"Ahhhh...maybe things will be better tomorrow." I said to myself as I looked to my watch to see what time it was.

Gently taking it off after I got my bearing, I took the opportunity to attempt to lay down. But as I nearly succeeded I heard a knock on my door.

"What!?" I asked in anger. Whoever this was had some balls to come directly to my room.

"This better be important!" I stated as I approached the door to take a hold of the handle.

"What is it!? Can't you see I'm...!"

"Toof!"

Raptor's POV.

Hitting Monroe in the shoulder, I watched as he fell back with a thud. Slowly I pulled down my bandana to look at him in the eyes.

"How...how did you get in here!?" He asked in confusion as I walked in to shut the door behind me.

Looking into his eyes with a faceless expression I replied.

"I think that's the least of your worries."

"Fuck you! My men won't let you leave alive Voltz! You cocksucker!" He shouted in rage as I looked to his nightstand to see his gun resting there. His eyes followed mine as he watched me walk by him to pick it up.

"You think I don't know that General?"

Monroe went silent as I sat down on his bed to ask.

"Why?"

Confused, Monroe questioned.

"Why what?!"

"Why do you want my people to suffer? Why do you want my rebellion dead? Why?" I asked as he remained down on the ground.

"This country is a shitting ground. The people who live here are nothing but terrorists. Just like you and your Rebellion Voltz."

"Is that what you truly believe?" I wondered as I checked the revolver to see it was full of rounds.

"It's what I know Voltz. You don't see it. Your too self righteous. You act like these people are redeemable. But I know you have seen what I've seen before."

"I saw what Shadow did for this country and I knew him at his core. When the people of this country followed him it wasn't about money, power, or control. It was about freedom."

"Is that what you think?" He asked as I looked into his eyes to reply.

"It's what I know Monroe."

Going silent as he held his wound, I asked.

"Answer me this then Monroe. What does G.U.N want with my country?"

"You act like I know. I'm a pawn for Linnen. Like everyone else. He is the only one who knows that answer Voltz." Replied Monroe as it was clear he was calming down a bit under the pressure.

"We both knew this would happen sooner or later to one of us."

"It will happen to you next I promise." Stated Monroe as I nodded.

"My wife says the same thing. Hehehe."

Letting my chuckle end short, I stated.

"I want you to know something before I kill you Monroe."

"What?" He asked in anger as I looked him in the eyes to say with deep emotion.

"You may be a pawn to Linnen but every man has freedom to change his position among command. I tell all my men if I ever make the wrong choice in this war they can kill me and take command of the Rebellion. I say it not as a threat. But as a standard for who I am inside. I'm just a man like you. But I choose to do something. People like Linnen can't be allowed to hold us back. You understand what I'm saying right?"

"Fuck you Voltz. You don't know anything about me. You don't know a thing about this war or the people around it. Your a confused soul who will die soon. Then after that; Linnen will lead this place to a new way of life. Hell maybe it will be as good as the states one day."

"Toof! Aghhhh!" He shouted as I shoot him in the other shoulder.

"I don't want this to be the states. If I did I would do nothing. I would still have my family and I would not have to risk the lives of those I care about." I stated as I watched him fall to his back.

Standing up, I put my M1911 to my side to lift up his revolver.

Monroe looked to me in fear as I walked next to his side to point it at him.

"I want this to be what it was always meant to be. A free country. With no one to rule it but the people who live here. Someone like you and Linnen can never understand what that dream truly is."

"It's not a dream you asshole. It's a fucking nightmare."

"To you maybe." I stated as I gripped the trigger.

Monroe widened his eyes as I pulled it.

"BANG!"

With his head bouncing off the wood floor, I muttered.

"But to me it's a way of life. A way of living. A choice everyone can make. A free country at last."

Lowering the gun to stare at his body, I began to hear commotion outside the room. My time may be near. But at least Iraq is free now.

Looking to the door, I gently looked to my vest to go to my comm.

"Wreak come in. It's Raptor."

That's it for this chapter. I'll have the next one on in a few days. Leave a review and let me know what you think as always. Thanks for reading guys.
