Love Struck Delusion
Chapter 58 – The World Will Never Let Us Rest.
Hunter's POV, Medical Bay.
As I came to my senses, I felt my head immediately begin to thump.
"Ughhh...?" Slowly opening my eyes I found I was in a bed.
"What happened?" I asked myself as I looked to my right.
"Your safe."
Unaware I was being watched over, I panicked as Raptor was sitting next to me. He looked really calm.
"Raptor? What happened? Where is everyone?"
Standing up from his seat; he urged while looking into my eyes.
"Relax. Everything is okay."
"Does the mean...?" Giving me a smile as I stopped in my train of thought, I began to feel only joy within my heart.
"Monroe is dead. The border is ours and I've already given the speech to the country. You've been out cold for a good while. Do you remember what happened?" He wondered as I slowly began to nod.
"I was with Archer and Char at the border. There was a bear and he...he hit me. I don't know what happened after that. Are they okay?"
Nodding Raptor replied.
"Everyone is safe. G.U.N no longer exists among this city."
"I can't believe it. Where are we now then? Where's Marx?"
Retaking his seat he replied.
"The Capital. It's our new base of operations."
"And Marx?" I asked out of fear he was hurt. I knew it had to be him who saved my life.
"He's dealing with the injured we picked up. He managed to stabilize you before anything bad could happen. But to be honest you have Char to thank for that. He got you to him as fast as he could."
"Char?" I muttered to myself as I looked back to Raptor who crossed his feet.
"I have to thank them." I stated as he nodded to reply in speed of my haste decision.
"You can in a little bit." I sensed something was wrong with his voice. He had something in mind to tell me.
"What's wrong?" I asked as he looked back at me.
Letting out a sigh he replied.
"We picked up at least half the city in our recruitment process. This building is filled to the brim outside that door. You'll get to see soon."
"But that's good." I replied as he nodded to restate himself.
"It is. But Wreak, Archer, and myself believe we might have a small problem. We're not sure yet, but we think Linnen might have sent someone to join us during the mass recruitment."
"You think someone is a spy? Why?"
"To kill me more then likely. That and find out what we're planning ahead of time."
"Do you know who it is?"
Giving me a straight face he replied.
"We think it's this kid. And try to trust me when I tell you this, but he looks and sounds just like Commander Robotnik."
"That doesn't make sense." I replied with a confused tone, as he stood back up.
"You'll see for yourself soon enough. Wreak has him outside training. As a matter of fact, he should be wrapping up soon. It's getting late."
"Why are you telling me this?" I asked with an unsure expression to match.
Turning his full attention to me, he replied.
"I want you to watch him."
"Watch the spy?" I questioned as he nodded.
"Why? I just woke up."
"I know you did, but this needs to happen sooner rather then later. The longer we wait the more this guy could get from us. The more danger I'm in."
I was so lost. I just woke up and now I'm getting so much thrown at me at once. It's unfair.
Helping me sit up, Raptor begged.
"Please. I know I'm asking a lot from you right now, but he won't expect someone like you to be watching him."
"If he's really a spy Raptor, I could get killed. I'm not going to be able to take him alone." I stated as he shook his head to reply.
"That won't happen. I know you can do this without drawing attention. And if he even lays a hand on you, you have my word I'll personally kill him. I promise."
Raptor got so close to me, his breath rolled along my lips as I tried to lean in on him. But as I got close, he placed his hand on my shoulder to urge.
"Say you'll do this for me Hunter."
Looking him directly in the eyes from no more then a few inches away, I replied.
"I'll do it. You can count on me."
Giving me a smile, he replied.
"Thank you."
Watching his green eyes move up, I stayed still as I felt him kiss my forehead.
"That's for not being mad at me for this. I know I'm putting you in a bad position. I know I could be the reason you get hurt. So it really does mean a lot when you don't yell at me for my judgment. Thank you again."
"Raptor?"
Pulling away from me, he mumbled with a slight cough.
"Watch his every move. Report anything in that looks suspicious. And if for one second you feel like your in danger you come find me. Understood?"
Nodding slowly, I replied.
"I got it."
Still smiling at me, he said next as he reached the door.
"Take your time. Collect your baring and when your ready to get started you go talk to Archer. He should be outside watching over the new teams with Wreak. He'll point out the kid for you."
"Okay." I replied as I watched him leave.
Looking down to my hands, I let out a sigh.
"Why am I so stupid!"
Raptor's POV.
I knew I was putting her back out in harms way. I knew it and I don't know why I fall through with it every time. Putting people I care about like this in the line of fire. It's the most difficult choice to make every time I get presented with it. I have no idea how Shadow did this back in the day. I thought my calls were hard ones. Thank god I'm the only one here who has to go through this. I would not wish it on another.
As I walked back from the medical bay, I came head first into Wreak who appeared to be coming back inside.
"Commander, can we have a word?"
Nodding I replied.
"Of course. Come on."
Taking him back to my office, I asked as he shut the door behind himself.
"What's he looking like out there?"
Wreak didn't answer me right away. Instead he appeared unsure. Running his hand down his chin and to his side, he stood up in front me to reply.
"I don't like making tough calls boss. It's not in my parameters."
"Nether is it in mine Wreak. But this is one of those times were we need to make the tough calls. It's a risk yes, but we can't afford to fuck up in any way right now."
"I understand that. But...?" Cutting him off I asked.
"But what?"
Looking me in the eyes he replied.
"I think we may be wrong about him. I just got to talk to him for a bit and he seems like a straightforward guy. Alone most his life, lost hope after Commander Robotnik died, heard your speech and decided to change his outlook on the meaning of it. All and all Commander, I think he's really trying to be part of us. I think he really means what he says and he wants to play a part."
"You serious?" I asked out of near confusion.
Nodding Wreak replied.
"Yes sir. I am."
Letting out a sigh, I wondered.
"How did he fight out there?"
With a shrug he replied.
"He fought like any other soldier could. He needs work with his reflexes and maybe a little bit of positioning, but all together he's a solid fighter in my opinion. I didn't see anything too impressive."
Now sitting in my chair, I scratched my head in deep thought.
"Listen Commander you heard what I had to say about this. I think he's okay. But let's see what Archer thinks. We both know my word doesn't mean as much as his when it comes to this sort of thing. But I think we were wrong about the kid."
Watching as Wreak got the door and left my office, I let out another sigh.
I know Wreak can be easy to get along with, but I also know he's not dumb or easily fooled. If Verbecks' a spy then he's really good at playing his role. But if Archer is up next for him; I can't see him getting around him as easy as Wreak was. But if Wreak was right and this kid is legit; then I'll just feel paranoid about everything. Fuck I don't know what to trust right now.
Looking inside my draw, I pulled out Shadow's M1911. Placing it down on the desk in front of me, I looked up at the ceiling. I think I need to make my own call about Verbeck. It's not that I don't trust Wreak or Archer; I just would feel more sane if I made my own decision about him.
Nodding to myself, I stood up from my desk to head for my door. After placing the gun back in my holster did I make my way out into the main hall. I knew right now the new teams would be getting to the end of their training. I hope I can catch him before he gets mixed in with all the others looking for their bunks.
Shadow's POV, Barracks.
After Wreak left a bit ago, training was no more then what I was use too when I stayed with Linnen a while back. Needless to say it was easy. The one thing that did stand out though among it all was that we were getting to bed early. I'm not use to that.
Rockwell had us looking for beds. He said that with all the new faces today, they would be sparing and we'd best grab one up before their gone. Otherwise we would get the ground. And I'm in no mood to sleep the night away on a solid tiled floor.
With the barracks slowly filling up from the other teams coming in from training as well, I quickly speed up my search. Through some effort I managed to come across one resting towards the far wall. Setting down my vest to show that it was now claimed, I sat down to let out a thick breath. I had no idea things would be this bad. Voltz has too many people now. It's an issue, but I guess a good one from his standpoint.
As I now rested down, I watched as time passed and the room began to fill with men like myself. At least Voltz had the sense to separate the women. I wouldn't be surprised with some of these guys around here. I can read faces, and they may be countrymen, but some of them are questionable.
Looking to my side to check on my gear, I pulled out my phone Linnen had given me.
Flipping through the contacts, I saw his number. He was smart enough not to put his name in case I lost this.
"Ahhhhh." Letting out a sigh, I tried to picture a good time to report in. With all the training I'm bound to be put through it would be complicated. I need to get away from my team and anyone around here.
"Commander present!"
Putting my phone down, I quickly got up with the near twenty others in this room to face the door.
Caught off guard, I rested my eyes back on Voltz who now looked around from the door. After a good moment of silence he ordered.
"I want all men who were given the rank of Corporal to please join me outside for a second."
"This was random. What was he doing?" I wondered as I followed him with three others.
As we left our barracks, we soon met face to face with the head of the Rebellion. He glanced at me once, but I still couldn't read him.
"State your squads." He ordered as the men before me went first.
"Delta 6-0 sir."
"Echo 9-1 sir."
"Gamma 3-7 sir."
Looking to me I said.
"Bravo 4-2 sir."
Nodding, Voltz replied.
"I won't talk dumb to you men. If you got your rank you proved your capable of defending yourself and leading. So therefor I will tell you the same thing I will tell your squad leaders after. Tomorrow I will not have you here training. I want you in the sand."
"Doing what sir?" Wondered one of the men standing beside me.
Looking to him he replied.
"I need teams forming a perimeter outside the city limits. Your job is simple. Now that Iraq is under our control there is a chance any G.U.N left inside will try to run. If that is the case, I want them killed."
Gulping; I continued to listen.
"But vice versa, if you see anyone trying to get into my city I want them captured and brought here. Do we understand?" He asked as I nodded and replied with everyone.
"Yes sir."
"Good. This is your first mission and it won't be over till the night has gone. If anything is go wrong I expect you men to step up. Show leadership."
"Yes sir." We replied as he looked to us once more. With a good look he ordered.
"Dismissed."
Turning to leave, I heard.
"Verbeck?"
Stopping in my tracks, I looked back at Raptor.
"Come with me for a minute. I want to talk to you."
"Yes sir." I replied feeling unsure about my new situation.
Sorry I was sleeping all day. Next chapter will be soon. Please leave a review and let me know what you think.
