DM Don't Blame Margo!

It was early in the morning and Mr Samps, the manager of the museum was ready to open up for the day. He unlocked the front doors and went to get everything ready for the visitors.

He went around the museum to make sure everything was where it should be. But Mr Samps got a nasty shock! Someone had broken into the museum during the night and stolen the golden shark!

The red velvet cord was unhooked and hanging onto the floor. Mr Samps also saw that there was a long trail of muddy footprints! ''Oh no!'' he wailed, ''I thought I heard some sort of noise in the night! Oh why didn't I get up and check it out instead of just rolling over and going back to sleep?''.

Mr Samps was a rich guy who had a house converted inside of his museum so he lived there too! Mr Samps saw a policeman passing by outside and called him inside. ''Don't worry Mr Samps'' said the policeman, ''Just you leave it to me, I'll soon find who stole the golden shark''.

The policeman looked closely at the muddy footprints and examined them very carefully. ''A Ha!'' he said, ''Mr Samps, these footprints appear to be…'', ''MARGO'S!'' cried Mr Samps, ''I just can't believe what I'm seeing''.

Mr Samps knew Felonius Gru, his twin brother Dru, his wife Lucy and adoptive daughters, Margo, Edith and Agnes, let alone the bunch of yellow creatures called minions. ''There Margo Gru's all right'' said the policeman, ''No one else around that we know of wears red and white striped hi-top Converse sneakers. I'm going round to the Gru family's house to arrest the little scamp! You can come too if you like''.

Mr Samps and the policeman got in the police car and followed the muddy footprints all the way to the big black house where the Gru family lived.

When they got there, Mr Samps rang the doorbell and Gru answered the door. ''Hello Mr Samps'' he said in surprise when he saw him and the policeman standing on his doorstep, ''What can I do for you so early in the morning?''.

''Mr Gru'' said Mr Samps, ''A golden shark was stolen from my museum last night while I was asleep and we suspect your eldest daughter Margo is responsible for the crime''.

''WHAT?!'' Gru shouted, ''Eet can't have been Margo, she would never do such a thing and she's been asleep in bed the whole night!''. ''Then how do you explain these?'' the policeman asked pointing to the line of muddy footprints, ''They look just like Margo's!''.

Gru just didn't know what to say. He found it hard to believe that it was Margo who had stolen the golden shark from Mr Samps's museum. She was usually such a good kind girl. Just then, Lucy arrived in time to hear the accusation against Margo.

But before she could say anything, Margo came into the hallway. ''Hello everyone'' she said with a yawn, ''Oh hello Mr Samps, you're up and about early today''. Mr Samps just glared at her.

''Not as early as you were, young lady!'' the policeman said marching straight into Gru's house and picking up Margo's shoes, ''As I thought! Your shoes are covered with fresh mud! So it was you who stole the golden shark from Mr Samps's museum!''.

''But I didn't!'' Margo protested. Then she saw the policeman getting out his handcuffs to put on her! Poor Margo was very scared indeed and ran out of the front door still wearing her olive green nightgown and in her bare feet.

''Stop thief!'' the policeman shouted as he and Mr Samps chased after her, ''Somebody stop that girl!''. ''I'm not a thief. I didn't steal the golden shark!'' Margo cried, becoming more and more unhappy.

She was so busy looking back to make sure the two men weren't catching up with her that she didn't look where she was going and bumped into several people much to their annoyance.

Meanwhile, back at Gru's house, Lucy made an interesting discovery, she had found a red sock with fire flames on it in one of Margo's shoes! ''Margo!'' she shouted running out of the door and joining in the chase after her daughter, ''Mr Samps! Stop! Wait!''.

But Margo didn't stop running, nor did Mr Samps and the policeman. Lucy got into her car and drove up to the two men and stopped them in their tracks. ''Hey! Check this out!'' she said holding out one of Margo's shoes and pulling out the red fire flame sock.

Mr Samps and the policeman couldn't believe their eyes! ''That looks like one of Scarlet Overkill's socks!'' gasped the policeman. ''Now it's Scarlet we gotta find'' said Mr Samps, ''Not Margo''. ''We still gotta find Margo'' Lucy told them, ''Cos you two men owe my daughter an apology''.

Lucy pressed her foot on the gas pedal and drove off to look for Margo. At last they spotted her near a load of market stalls in the town square. ''Margo!'' Lucy shouted, ''Please stop!''.

Margo who by now was getting tired of running finally stopped and Lucy and the two men got out of her car. Then Lucy showed her daughter the muddy shoe with the red fire flame sock in it. ''But that isn't one of my socks!'' Margo said in surprise. ''I know honey'' Lucy said.

''Oh Margo we're ever so sorry'' said Mr Samps. ''We know it wasn't you now'' added the policeman, ''It seems Scarlet Overkill stole your shoes before she robbed the museum so she wouldn't leave her own footprints, but she made the mistake of leaving one of her socks in your shoe when she took them back''.

''So I won't be getting those handcuffs after all?'' Margo asked. ''No'' said the policeman. ''Come on Margo'' said Lucy, ''Let's go home so you can get dressed and have breakfast, I bet you're starving from all that running''.

''That sounds great Mom'' said Margo feeling her stomach rumble. ''It sounds like you're ready for breakfast too!'' laughed Lucy as they drove off for home.
