I woke up early the next morning. Jumped in the shower and got dressed. I did my makeup to cover up my fresh cuts. Fewer people saw, the less questions they'd be asking, although I'm sure Chloe had sent me a billion messages, wondering what happened to me. Right, I almost forgot, I dropped my phone that night when I was taken by those guys. Or as my dad figures, by the "drinks" I couldn't wrap my head around it. I was sure everything I told my dad that happened, happened! I did not hallucinate any of it.
There was no point in asking my dad about the Tesseract, he'd probably tell me I made that up too. I went downstairs to the kitchen to get some caffeine in me. My dad was nowhere in the house, must've gone to the office early this morning. I poured my coffee into a mug and went to sit at the table when a piece of paper with a box on top of it on the counter with my name caught my attention. It was a brand new iPhone 4S. I moved the box off the paper. It was my dad's writing, informing me he had to go to the office early this morning and that the phone was all ready to go. I took the device out of the box and turned it on and went to the Facebook app, and saw I had over thirty messages from Chloe, I briefly read the first few. Basically, she wanted to know why I ditched her party and if Jason and I hit it off. I closed the app. I didn't want to deal with it now; I was sure they would ambush me about it at school.
I finished my coffee and put the cup in the sink. I grabbed my bag when my dad's computer program spoke. "Miss Stark Hogan would like me to inform you he is here to drive you to school." J.A.R.V.I.S. said.
"Thanks J.A.R.V.I.S. but tell him Danielle is already picking me." I lied. I did not feel like talking about what happened the other night.
"I'm sorry Miss Stark, but your father has order Hogan to drive you to and from school now."
I groaned. Great, my dad's way of punishing me, I guess. "Fine, tell him I'll be out in a few minutes."
"Yes, Miss Stark."
I slung my bag over my shoulder. Grabbed my phone and headed out the door. The limo was parked right outside the door and Hogan was already at the back door waiting for me to get in. "Good morning Miss Stark." Hogan greeted with a small smile.
"Morning. How many times do I have to tell you to call me Maeve?" I asked him.
"Sorry, Miss Stark," I sighed. ",... I mean Maeve." He corrected himself. I smiled and climbed into the backseat and he closed the door and walked around the car to the driver side and got in and started the car and we were off. The car ride was quiet. Thankfully, Hogan didn't ask if I remembered anything from the other night. He probably could tell I didn't want to talk about it. We were almost at the school and I grabbed the remote to bring down the partition window that separates the driver from the passenger.
"Hogan, when you pull up at the school. Do me a favor and just stay in the driver's seat." I told him.
"Are you sure? It's not a big deal for me to come around and open your door. It's part of my job." Hogan informed me.
"No, it's fine. I'm sure I can open my door. I don't want to draw too much attention. I just want to get out and go without too many people looking at me." I pressed.
"As you wish." He said, pulling up to the school. He put the limo in park. I was about to open the door when he said some. "I'll be here around three to pick you up." I nodded and opened the door and climbed out of the vehicle, and saw a few eyes on me and I looked at the ground as I closed the door and Hogan drove off. I climbed up the stairs and walked along the path towards the school entrance. People were looking at me, some were even whispering in clusters as they watched me go by. Were they talking about me? I had no idea.
"MAEVE!"
I stopped dead in my tracks as I heard the familiar voice calling me. "Great." I mumbled quietly to myself. I was not in the mood for question right now. I was debating on whether I should keep going and act like I didn't hear her or something, but I could hear her footsteps approaching me quickly and I turned around with a fake smile on my face. "Chloe, hi." I said back.
"Where have you been?! Why didn't you return any of my messages? I have been freaking out!" Chloe ranted on.
"I'm sorry. I lost my phone at the party, must have dropped it on my way out." I quickly said.
"So tell, did you and Jason...?"
"What? No. Chloe, I told you before. He's not my type and I wouldn't sleep with him the first night. I'm not like that." I argued.
"Why not!? He is so hot, and his family is rich." She praised.
"Then why don't you go date him then?" I challenged. He seemed like her type.
"Because he's not into me, silly and well, I have a set standard I expect in a man and he doesn't fit anywhere on that list." I looked at her with a blank expression. I wondered if she knew how ridiculous she could sound sometimes. Probably not, why would I even think that. Chloe loved hearing herself talk, especially when it came to rubbing her life in other people's faces. I rolled my eyes at her. Not that she noticed she was too busy yapping still. "So what happened to you then, if you didn't go home with Jason?"
"What? Oh, I left. I Phoned Hogan to come get me and he took me home." I told her.
"Well, you could have at-least told me you were leaving. Beth and Danielle had no idea where you went either. We thought you got abducted or something!" Chloe freaked.
"You have no idea." I mumbled.
"What was that?" Chloe said, not hearing what I said.
"Nothing, I'm sorry okay. I was just tired and everything was just too much. I just wanted to go home." I said. I wasn't about to tell her I was abducted in front of her house, taken to an underground facility, experimented on and nearly shot in the head and then explaining the weird sparks flying in odd directions and gun moving just before it released the bullet. Those three guys that died. Two of them were killed suspiciously. Like how would I explain that to her?
We continued walking along the path and reached the stairs. We ran up them and got inside the school and went to our lockers to put our stuff in them and grab our books for class. Beth and Danielle eventually found us and the bell rang soon after that we went to first period.
My first class went by fast. I was sitting beside Beth. I couldn't take Chloe and her questions anymore. My second period It was only me and Danielle. Chloe and Beth had a different class. History seemed to drag, mostly cause I kept hearing the three girls behind us constantly giggling and I didn't know at who or what about. They were whispering but not loud enough for me to catch what they were talking about, and I was getting annoyed and then the lights in the classroom started flickering and I was worried they were going to burst like the last time. I wanted this day over with.
The bell finally rang, and everyone got up to head for lunch. "Hey, I gotta go to my locker and grab something. I'll meet you guys in the cafeteria." I told Danielle.
"Okay." She mumbled. Danielle was the shyest of our group. She was shyer than me. We went our separate ways, and I headed for my locker. I ran up the stairs and took a left to the hall where my locker was located when I heard that familiar giggling again. It Veronica and her two followers Ashley, and Karen. They were the mean girls at our school. Sometimes I wonder why Chloe was friends with us and not her. Though it probably wouldn't have lasted, Chloe and Veronica would be constantly fighting for the crown. I tried to ignore them at first, but their giggling was getting closer that I could hear what they were saying.
"Girls, I heard that Jason hooked up with Maeve the other night at Chloe's Halloween party." Veronica piped up. And I stopped walking.
"Shut up. No way. Her? She's such a slut." Ashley laughed. I turned around to face them.
"I did not. Nothing happened between me and Jason that night." I scolded.
"Oh really, cause I heard you gave him the reverse cowgirl and everything." Veronica informed and the three of them laughed.
"Must be falling in daddy's footsteps." Karen jumped in.
I was so angry inside and I clenched my fists at my side. Veronica was opening her bottle of ice-tea and was about to take a sip of it when it exploded in her face and she screamed.
"Crap, my hair! My face! It's ruined! Who did that!?" Veronica screamed. "Get out of my way you freak!" She yelled, pushing through her friends and ran for the bathroom. This strangeness had never come at a better time, and I took off down the other end of the hall and ran down the two flights of stairs. I was down in the main hall and went outside to get fresh air.
What's happening to me? What did that machine do to me? I was walking along the backside of the school when I heard someone calling me. "Maeve! Wait up!" Great, its Jason.
"What do you want?" I questioned, annoyance clear in my voice.
"I was just coming to find you to ask you what happened the other night. I went to get us drinks and when I turned around you were gone." Jason explained.
"You mean the drink you were planning on drugging me with?"
"Maeve, what are you talking about? I wouldn't drug you."
"I saw the baggy you dumped in one drink. I'm not stupid. And now your telling everyone I gave you the reverse cowgirl?"
I watch Jason shrug his shoulders like it was no big deal. "Well, I had to tell people something. I couldn't put a dent in my streak."
"Your a dick." I hissed, and I started walking away. I didn't get far when I felt Jason grab me and shove me up against the building. "Jason let me go!"
"You think you can talk to me like that, you little bitch!" He snarled at me. I tried pushing him off of me, but I barely budged him. He was after all the school's quarterback, and I was just a puny little stick compared to him. Jason grabbed me by the jaw and I started freaking out when he went flying backwards a couple yards and I slid to the ground panting. I heard Jason grunt, and I got up from the ground and took off running towards the forest behind the school. I looked behind me to see if he had followed when I ran into something and fell backwards on my back. I groaned in pain and lifted my head up to see what I had run into and it wasn't a what at all it was a who. A tall, dark-haired guy standing over me.
