Chapter 103 – I don't know.
Raptor's POV.
"So have you made a nuke before?" I asked still in shock she knew this kind of stuff.
Shaking her head she replied.
"I've never made one no. Things like that require a lot of work to get done. Besides people who actually know how to handle the materials. You need the actual stuff to put together to make it. That kind of stuff is under lock and key. G.U.N owns most of it by now."
"But you do know how to make one yeah?" I asked as she nodded.
"Yeah I do."
"Wow." I replied as she then wondered.
"Are you mad at me for lying to you?"
Looking right back up at her I replied.
"Nah. To be honest I'm just stumped right now. How did you learn?"
Taking another shot she replied.
"I was a natural engineer in class and I knew everything there was to know about chemistry. So during one of my terms in Russia I was selected to help in a program. The program was basically set up to see who could make the bombs the fastest and the most reliable. After it was all said and done I got called by G.U.N to aid in their plans for China."
"They just let you go after the bombing?" I questioned as she nodded.
"People like myself are treasured for our skills. Only people that knew of the bombing were Hecan and some other top brass. Hecan promised to let me go after it was all said and done. He stuck to his end of our deal. I know he didn't sell me out. After everything happened I continued contracting and moved around for awhile. I was safe for a while. I don't know what changed." She replied as I took another drink.
Raze who was basically now attached to my side smiled and added.
"I met her some time later after she left home. She got shot in her first skirmish with those thugs and I patched her up. Ever since we've been kinda close."
"Is Raze your only friend around here?" I then asked as Zeta calmly replied.
"I know a lot of people. I keep my name hidden for the most part. If anyone knew the price on my head I'd be sold out real fast. But no I have some other friends around. A lot of them live around here. Others are hiding like me."
Now with most of my questions answered, I laid back and took quick notice to Raze grabbing onto my left arm. My eyes looked down to her as she just held herself in place. Zeta also took notice and urged her clingy friend.
"You should just kiss him already Raze. I know you want too. Hell I bet he does too by now."
Raze's face went red as she slightly undid her hold on me.
"Listen I'm just a little tipsy right now Zeta. Can you just ignore me? Raptor has."
I chuckled softly as Zeta just smiled.
After another shot we matched eyes one more time.
"Soooooo how about you then Voltz? What's the deal between you and Hecan?"
With Raze still holding my arm I replied.
"There isn't much to tell. During the last war Shadow was offered the treaty in exchanged for getting rid of Reacher. That was G.U.N's last field leader."
In confusion Raze asked.
"So Hecan wanted his own men to lose the war?"
"That's probably because unlike most people in G.U.N, Hecan is the first leader to give a shit about world peace. I bet the treaty offered Shadow what he wanted and gave Hecan what he needed. It worked out good for both of them." Stated Zeta as I nodded.
"They were friends for the most part. Hecan and Shadow. After I woke up from nearly getting my head blown off, I made a call. Hecan was open to the same idea again."
With wide eyes Zeta then asked.
"So he wants you to kill Linnen?"
Nodding I replied.
"Yeah. Hecan has a plan to strike peace again. I don't know the details but after he gave me your number he told me to give him a call after Gorgon has been dealt with. I assume he'll have a method. Same as he had with Shadow."
Taking another shot Zeta put her glass down after to state.
"Hecan is a good guy Raptor. If I were you I would listen to him after this. He's stayed in office for a reason."
Going for a shot of my own, I downed the glass and looked back to Raze who had her eyes closed on my shoulder. Zeta on the other hand took a look at the bottle we've been using to laugh.
"Hehe...god two down. You think you can handle a third?"
Letting out a sigh I replied while leaning back on the couch.
"Yeah. I can handle it. You?"
Cracking open the bottle she smiled and replied.
"I got some left in me. Don't worry. After you pass out I'll be sure to tuck you in."
This time I smiled wide. Zeta just laughed to herself as I looked back to Raze who had some of her hair in front of her eyes. Using my free hand I reached closely to try and part it from her face. I could physically see her face turn red to my touch. Slowly her eyes opened and we stared at one another.
"Can I?" She asked under her breath as I just smiled and replied.
"Sure."
Putting her hand around the back of my head, I shut my eyes as she came in to kiss me right on the lips. At this point of my life I didn't care what I was doing. Everything up to this point had been shit. I've lost everything in the worst way possible, and with no one to question myself to I just gently kissed her back. After a few seconds she pulled off. Her eyes still matched mine as she whispered.
"Wow."
Both of us began to laugh softly as Zeta was clearly being quiet to the fact of what just happened. Carefully looking her way I leveled myself to see she was just giving me a playful glare. After which she began to pour us both another shot.
"Looks like he wasn't ignoring you Raze." She stated as we both watched as she came over with both glasses in hand.
Lost in what was happening, Zeta came over to sit on my lap. Handing me my glass she then asked with vigor. Still holding her playful glare.
"Are you ignoring me?"
Raze just watched from my side as I took my shot with utmost care. With the glass empty I looked back at the wolf to reply.
"How could I?"
Zeta took one look to her glass and with the shot still in it she decided to put it down on the table next to us. Refocusing back on me with her soft eyes I questioned.
"That means I win right? Hehe."
Placing her hand on my cheek she replied.
"Shut up, will ya?"
Coming in close I matched lips with the Russian. For acting so rough compared to her friend who still watched in awe. I was surprised she was so soft with her touch. Both of us were lost as I rested my right arm around her back. Zeta pulled back after a few seconds to look back at Raze. Sensing the trouble I was in, I looked back to her as well to watch as she put her hand back behind my head to drag me in for another kiss. After which I pulled away to let out a low chuckle.
"What's so funny?" They both asked as I just giggled to myself.
Zeta hit my chest with her backhand to get my attention and with a brushed voice she asked.
"What's funny?"
Looking her right in the eyes I replied.
"I guess I really am in big trouble, huh?"
Both Raze and Zeta began to laugh as I reached back for the wolf. Placing my hand on the back of her head. Zeta instantly came in for another kiss. After which she pulled an inch away to suggest.
"How about instead of worrying about the bad. We just focus on what's good? Just for tonight."
With Raze placing my left hand on her inner thigh and Zeta dragging my right down her back I replied.
"Just tonight?"
"At least before we go getting ourselves killed." Stated Zeta back as I smiled and replied.
"I can go along with that. As long as it's just tonight."
With my hands now both secured, I leaned back with my eyes closed as Zeta gave me another kiss. This isn't how I planned my night to go. But now that I was here it was too late to back out. Not that I even wanted too. This felt right. Maybe one last good thing to remember before I die.
Char's POV, The next morning.
The search wasn't going well. Raptor was no where to be found according to Archer. Part of me wanted to believe he was okay. But the other was worried he was already dead. Cause I'm sure he went right to Pakistan. I know he can do it if he has the right support over there. And I know for a fact there are plenty of people who would kill to help a man like him. But plenty of others that would simply love to just kill him.
Sitting with Black in the office, we both looked to one another. Black was cool. Pretty chill for a G.U.N guy. I thought to myself as he said.
"Char?"
"Yeah?" I replied as he then asked.
"You know we aren't going to find him right?"
Letting out a sigh I replied.
"Yeah. We won't have time to search ether. Not with the meeting tomorrow. We both gotta be there for Archer."
Black nodded as Tap and Gabe came into the office behind us.
"You guys good?" Wondered Tap as him and the bear came in to approach us. Black remained silent as I just nodded.
"Yeah. Just trying to think."
"Where's Archer?" Tap then asked as Black soon replied.
"He'll be here."
"Any word on the Commander?" Asked Gabe as we both just went silent. After some time Black said.
"Raptor isn't someone we can just find. We're still waiting on any word from Mason over in Afghanistan. Yet I doubt he'll find anything."
"You think he's in Pakistan then?" Wondered Gabe as I just flat out said.
"He has to be. Raptor wouldn't want to waste time. He's gotta be over there trying to figure out a way to get his attention. And being right in the heart of the enemy is the best place to make that happen. He remotely does anything out there in the city he'll have all of that army's attention coming his way."
"He can't be alone right?" Questioned Tap as me and Black both shook our heads.
"He's with someone. Some chick named Zeta. We have her on camera footage leaving the border. Archer and myself both looked it over and we saw what Char saw. Someone was trying to sneak out. We couldn't see who, but it had to be him." Stated Black as Gabe then asked.
"We know who this woman is?"
"No. But she was important enough to get China's attention out here. They wouldn't send those mercs out this far if it wasn't important. All of us know that much."
"So she's just a ghost?" Questioned Tap as Black then added.
"And she's with one of the best ghosts. Raptor won't show himself to Gorgon. Not till he's ready to kill him. Our war starts soon but that will be played here in Iraq. At least in the beginning. We have to deal with the first assault then go after Hannon in Afghanistan. After all that we can worry about Pakistan. So if anything happens over there before then? We can all thank Raptor for that."
"How much damage can he do?" Wondered Gabe as I quickly replied.
"He's a man who just had to watch his whole family die. He was even forced to kill his kids for Gorgon's entertainment. Trust me. He can do a lot of damage just going off that."
Gabe and Tap both went quiet as Archer finally made his way into the office.
"He was the head of special forces under Shadow Robotnik's rule and probably one of the best soldiers this world has to offer. The man is so important to this rebellion." Stated Archer as he came to his desk. Stopping in front of his he let out a sigh to then state.
"That's why I'm so pissed off right now. I'm not the one who is suppose to be in this position!" Shouted Archer as Black then stated.
"Right now Linnen is convinced he's dead. Your in the perfect spot to keep it that way. If we lead on he's out there somewhere, Linnen will be on his toes. Raptor may not be here with us right now, but just like I was telling these guys Archer. If anyone can cause some trouble for Linnen it will be him in the position he's in right now, wherever he is."
"We still need him. I need him." Replied Archer as I then sat up to ask.
"Is there any word from Mason about any of this?"
Shaking his head Archer replied.
"Mason called last night. No one flew in or around his city. At least no rouge planes. Just commercial. And his border teams reported no one matching Zeta's description coming into the city. Chances are he really is in Pakistan."
Archer leaned on his desk with his eyes now closed. It was clear he was stressed.
"Well what about the meeting tomorrow?"
"Tomorrow you four are coming with me on the trip along with the team I've been training. The signing is being held in the capital to insure Linnen's protection from the public. Only myself and who I allow to follow are allowed inside. That means your team Black and mine." Stated Archer as I then asked in confusion.
"What about me?"
Archer looked right at me. His eyes showed some concern as Black and his men all were wondering the answer. Keeping his stance Archer replied.
"This meeting is the only time I'd be able to get anyone in Pakistan. We have time before the meeting starts to get you out unnoticed and into the public."
Widening my eyes I then questioned.
"Why?"
Archer then sat up straight to reply.
"Despite how mad I am. I need someone to go try to find Raptor."
All I felt was an immense amount of pressure as Archer quickly added.
"I'm not asking for you to bring him back Char. All I want you to do is talk to him. Try and convince him that what he is doing can wait. Gorgon isn't going anywhere. And we will need him more then ever after this meeting with Linnen."
"How will I even find him? There is a whole fucking city crawling with G.U.N! One wrong move and I'm dead Archer!" I shouted as he shook his head.
"Raptor trusts you. I can see it. He looks at you the same way he looked at Shadow years ago. And that's saying a lot. And I know you won't make a wrong move. Your smart. You can do this Char."
I was at a loss for words as Black suddenly said to me from his chair.
"Chances are Raptor will be at the meeting."
Archer took notice to comment. We all did.
"This will be a perfect time for him to make sure Gorgon is still in country. And chances are he'll have the perfect chance to figure out where he goes from there. Gorgon doesn't stay in the capital. That I can already tell you. His team is a fast responder unit. That's how they were able to cut us off when we tried to leave with Raptor back when you two had that run in with Linnen in Pakistan."
"So you think he's somewhere outside the city?" I asked in confusion as Archer quickly spoke up in a louder voice.
"You really think Raptor will show his face at the capital?"
Black shrugged his shoulders to reply.
"He'll be hiding of course. There are plenty of places to get a sight on the signing from. Plus this is a public event. The whole city will be inside the gates trying to get a peek at the signing. He'll blend in. He might even try to sneak in. He'll have too. Gorgon will be right alongside Linnen during it all. Whatever room we are in, I'll place money on the chances of him being there right with us." Stated Black as Archer went silent.
"Wherever Gorgon goes is where Raptor will go. You can bet on that." Stated Black as Tap then wondered.
"You think he'll attack?"
Archer immediately replied.
"No. Taking a shot at this meeting will turn into a bloodbath. Raptor won't risk hurting civilians. Plus I don't think he's that dumb. But I've been wrong before."
"So what should I do?" I then had to ask as Black suggested.
"We could try to sneak him in as a rebellion reporter Archer. That way he could be in the same room as us. Wire him up with me and my team and we can communicate. Our helmets will keep the three of us from looking suspicious by checking out the crowd. If one of us spots anything we can relay it and Char can make a move."
Archer nodded and then added.
"I don't want any of you doing anything if you see him. Not a word. Char is the only one who is allowed to act. But Char if you do see him you need to not blow his cover. If G.U.N sees him it's over. You got it?"
"Of course." I replied as he then said.
"You do what you have to if you find him. But wait till you leave the event to try and get close. Once your done. Good or bad, you call me. I'll have my team waiting for you somewhere in the city. We'll figure it out when we get there, but they will be your extraction. Understood?"
"Yes sir." I replied as Archer took his chance to get close. Pressed up in front of me he then said.
"You are just as important to me as Wreak was. So make sure you come back alive. Alright?" He asked as he offered me his hand.
"Alright. I won't let you down Archer." I replied as I took his hand.
Pulling me in for a quick hug, Archer released me to look back at Black.
"It's going to be hard for me to hold back from wanting to shoot that prick."
"Like you said Archer. Gorgon isn't going anywhere. Plus if you shot him I'm pretty sure Raptor would kill you. Haha."
Archer smiled and began to laugh as Tap then asked from his spot behind us.
"Is Hunter coming?"
Everyone looked to Archer as he quickly replied.
"She hasn't said a word since yesterday to me. She's been training with a few of my guys as of late. They said she was quite...ahhhhh...determined?"
"That a good or bad thing?" Questioned Gabe as Archer shrugged his head to reply.
"I don't know. She knows about the deal tomorrow, I tried telling her anyway. I was ignored for the most part. I offered her a ride if she wanted to be there. But it's probably best she stays here for now. Last thing I would want is for her to go after him by herself."
Everyone seemed to agree on that. And with things calming down Archer then ordered.
"You guys go get some training in with some of the other teams out there. Learn them up. Then get some rest for tomorrow. Got it?"
"Yes sir." We all replied as Archer went back to his chair to sit down.
Following out behind Black I got outside the office to be right in the face of Hunter. Tap and Gabe were silent as Black asked.
"You okay Hunter? We were worried about you?"
Hunter was dead set on me and with a stone face she said to me.
"You find him and you tell him whatever Archer wants you to tell him. But you make sure he knows one thing."
In an instant I was smacked almost into another world. Black and his friends all lowered their ears to the sound it made off my face. Myself on the other hand nearly broke in half as Hunter cried in tears.
"That I don't want a fucking thing to do with him if he comes back! And give him this!"
Slamming a knife down between my feet, I looked up into her eyes as she just looked broken.
"Hunter please...?" Black tried to reach for her but in an instant she smacked his hand away and turned to run. The four of us were left still in awe as I bent down to grab onto the knife. Taking it into my hands I looked at it's old history. It was clear this was his.
Placing the blade in my vest, I watched as Hunter made her way down the stairs and outside. Just as the doors closed Tap chuckled and said with a smile.
"Guess shit just got real. Huh Char?"
Black just shook his head as I let out a sigh of confusion. What the fuck was I going to do?
