I'm a bad toad I know... Another story started with so many to finish... Sorry about that... I just can not help myself.
Hope you enjoy, and please let me know what you think!
This was it, the moment she would do it. Finally.
Marinette just needed to believe in herself, believe that she could be happy too, with the man of her dreams by her side. That kind of stuff happens right?
'I won't stutter this time,' she took a deep breath in preparation. 'I can do this!' Marinette psyched herself up before opening her mouth to speak.
"Adrien, I really need to speak to you," Marinette closed her eyes and willed the words to come out. She could feel her voice catching in her throat, dreading what the blonde's reaction would be to her words. Her palms were sweating and her heart raced in her chest. Gulping she soldiered on:
"I love you," she sighed with her hands balled at her sides, trying to imagine his reaction, "I know we are friends, and no matter what you say, I don't want that to change-Tikki! I can't say any of this to him!"
Marinette groaned, and threw herself onto her bed backwards, her head landing on her handmade Chat pillow. The tiny red Kwami hovered over her face, peering down to her scrunched up orbs.
"You're doing better than the last time you attempted it." She squeaked.
"Yes Tikki, I know, but…" Marinette hit her bed with her balled up fists out of frustration, "why does it have to be so hard?" Bringing her hands up to her eyes, she covered the robust blush spreading from ear to ear.
"He's just another person Marinette." Tikki tried to reason with the flustering bluenette. "Just pretend he's Chat and you'll be fine-"
"If I was saying this to Chat, I know what his answer would be," blue eyes looked up at the ceiling through her fingers, the little deity creeping into view. "I love Chat but Adrien is the one who has my heart, I couldn't use Chat to try and get over Adrien, it wouldn't be fair on him."
Tikki gave Marinette a knowing look, "who says Chat isn't the one you're meant to be with, you've said it yourself." Tikki sat on Marinette's forehead, leaning over to look her in the eye, "if you had never met Adrien, Chat would have gained your whole heart a long time ago."
"Yes Tikki, and he's gaining more and more each day, I know." Marinette moaned, "I just wish I could forget about Adrien. Chat is amazing, but I just can't get Adrien out of my head!"
"Kagami has told you to take your chance," Tikki reminded her, "she believes he loves someone else, and she thinks that person could be you." The red being floated over to her cookie stash by Marinette's bed, "and if you don't tell him, you'll never know if her suspicions are true."
Marinette lay on her bed, mulling over the conversation her and Kagami had previously engaged in that evening. Once again, Kagami and Adrien had gone on a date, but he had scuppered her advances once more. The avid fencer had asked him if there was someone else:
"He simply blushed and rubbed the back of his neck, that boy will not admit it, and I think it's because he believes you do not like him that way." Kagami sounded deflated when on the phone, but wanted her two friends to be happy. "I know you like him Marinette, and if he likes you, then I will admit defeat and clear the path for you. Please talk to him and tell him how you feel."
The way Kagami had pleaded with Marinette after that had caused their conversation to run for over an hour. Marinette had broken down several times, her heart breaking for Kagami.
"But you love him Kagami-"
"But he doesn't love me Marinette, and I don't want to be anyone's second choice." She trailed off for a moment, "and right now that is what I am. I deserve to be happy and loved wholeheartedly, as do you. And I believe Adrien loves you as you love him."
"I do love him," Marinette confirmed, "but I doubt It's me he loves, why wouldn't he have said anything before-"
"Because you've only ever told him he's your friend, and sometimes the way you act makes it hard to believe you even like him that much!" Kagami's bluntness in explaining Marinette's odd behaviour, had really pinpointed the errors in Marinette's embarrassing ways around the blonde model. Marinette simply groaned.
"I see what you mean."
"Good," Kagami continued, "then it is settled."
"What's settled?"
"You will tell him tomorrow…"
Kagami had not given Marinette a choice, which is why Marinette was practicing at this very moment. She had been practicing since she had ended the call with her fellow bluenette. Ninety. Long. Minutes. The only respite she may be granted, she pointed out to Tikki, would be if a certain black cat decided to land on her balcony that evening. At that comment from the budding designer, Tikki had told Marinette she should ask him if she could practice on him.
"You don't need to tell him who it is you like, just give him the rough outline of the situation." The Kwami urged while looking amused, "and how you are incapable of stringing a sentence together whenever he is next to you!"
The pillow aimed with precision at the tiny being did nothing to stem the amused features present on her face. As Tikki had simply phased through the missile, her expression only turned to a knowing glance and giggle, while Marinette grimaced at the thought of having a dress rehearsal of confessing her love to the one who loved her alter ego.
"It's messed up Tikki," Marinette pointed out blankly.
'But it might make you realise your feelings for him are stronger than you care to admit.' The scheming Kwami mused as she turned away from her indecisive chosen.
So here Marinette was, faced with a dilemma as the soft thud of leather Chat paws were heard landing on her balcony.
"Here's goes nothing," Tikki teased as she flew away into hiding, not so successfully stifling a chuckle.
Marinette gulped once more, as she opened up her trap door, to face the other blonde who was slowly taking residence in her heart, piece by piece.
Thank you for reading =)
