Resident Evil:
Lose Control
Somewhere in Canada
Sara's POV
Life, my life. Was anything but interesting. I did the same thing everyday, till it got to the point, I didn't know what day it was. I was becoming depressed by it all, when things changed. I was driving home from a friends house. Nothing like watching Supernatural for the hundredth time. I wasn't going fast nor was I drunk, but this cop decided that I needed to be pulled over. My heart starts to race even tho I know I didn't do anything wrong. He taps the window with his flashlight. Rolling the window down, I hear the distant thunder.
"What's the problem officer?"
He doesn't say anything. Just keeps shining his light in my face. I try to cover my eyes, when he grabs my arm.
"Let me go!"
His grip gets tighter. He's very strong. I can't move my arm! By this time, I'm no longer saying words, I'm just yelling at him. And then I hear it.
"Sara?"
It's a male voice. Nothing that I recognize, but they are close to me. In fact, they sound right in front of me. Using my other hand, I block some of the light. I hold by a cry in fear and just let out an awkward squeak. There in front of me is Richard Aiken from Bravo Team. I'm inside a building, outside on what looks like a helicopter pad, and there's about three others watching me.
"Alright people, let's get a move on!" This guy suddenly pops out of the helicopter and tells us.
This was impossible. These people look familiar, and yet I can't place it. Why can't I remember where I've seen them! Not waiting for me to move, Richard takes my hand and leads me to the helicopter. My heart starts to speed up. It felt like it was going to beat right out of my chest.
I can't stop. Why can't I stop my body?
It was as if my body was being possessed. All I could do was just watch as I sat down next to this young girl. She looked at me with this concerned look. I turn my head just as the door closes and locks. No turning back.
"Listen up Bravo Team! We're looking for some missing hikers. Do not forget to bring your walkie talkies and to keep in contact at all times." I knew this guy, and yet I couldn't for the life of me, remember what his name was.
"You don't have to worry about us!" This guy in a green outfit, sitting next to well two other guys wearing blue.
They all looked like they were in their late 20's. Turning my head, I look out the window and I see that girl, doing the same. She looked like she was 18 years old. How the hell did she get to be here? After a flash of lightning, I see myself. Only I don't look anything like I'm supposed to. For one thing, I look close to the same age as the girl in front of me. It's getting harder to keep from freaking out. Then it happens.
"Everyone hold on to something!" The voice is cut off by the sound of a dying engine.
I can feel someone grab my hand. I don't have time to remember her name, just to hold her hand back. The whole event took minutes and yet felt like hours. It was a heavy drop when we finally landed. Taking several deep breaths in, I look over at the girl to find her clinging to the seat and me. I don't blame her. I'd be the same way if I had time to think.
"You okay?" Her name wouldn't come to me.
Nothing was coming to my mind, except a large headache. Before I could say anything this guy comes out from the front of the helicopter. God I need to get all of their names. As hard as I was trying to focus on what he was saying to the guys, I needed air. Lots of fresh air. Once out, I started to take deep breaths, hoping it would make things better. But I somehow managed to make things spin on me. Pushing the feeling to throw up, I somehow hold back a scream as someone puts their hand on my shoulder.
"Enrico wants us to pair up and search the area." Something with an R….. Shit.
"Lead the way."
When I said this to her, her reaction was that of shock. Like she didn't expect me to say that, but at the same time, too happy to care. With a small smile, she takes the lead and heads out into the fog. Where the hell did all this fog come from? I swear there wasn't any fog when we…..landed. That pilot is really good at what he does. How am I going to do this? I have no clue how to use this gun, I wasn't that great at duck hunt and I'm pretty sure anything that comes at us, will go for me. They always go for the weakest one.
"So, what exactly are we supposed to be looking for?"
"Not sure. Signs that the hikers were here." As she said this we both looked at the ground.
"Maybe the signs will lit up or scream here we are." I say as I try to move the fog out of the way, only to have more fog get in my face.
I could tell that she was trying her best not to laugh. I wasn't too sure as to where we were going, as I had no idea where we were. Just what you need in someone trying to rescue people. Checking my watch, which I didn't have before I got here, Rebecca and I were on our own for about ten minutes.
"Hey Sara, I found a road." She looks back at me.
Her face was a mixture of fear, curiosity, and something else I couldn't put my finger on. Pushing it aside, I look both ways down the road.
The pain in my head stops me from saying anything at first. "I'll head to the right and you to the left. Go for about five to ten minutes, then head back if we don't find anything."
She nods her head. I wasn't sure why I wanted to go right. It was just a feeling I had. As I walk forward, I can see the girls footsteps get quieter the further we get from each other. In the distance I can hear the faint sound of thunder. And then I see it. A jeep on its side, with a few small fires near it. I'm scared and yet I want to go near it. Getting closer you can smell this rusted metal in the air. Stopping in my tracks, I see two bodies. They aren't moving and it looks like they are covered in slim and lots of blood. Moving in closer, I check to see if there was anyone inside the jeep, but all I find is a silver case.
"So gross."
The case was covered in slim and locked. Grabbing a rock I somehow manage to open it. Inside where some files. Most of it was unreadable, except for one.
"Prisoner name, Billy Coen. Former second lieutenant, blah blah, twenty-six years old. What's this?" I get to my feet. "Convicted of first degree murder, court marshaled and sentenced to death. Sentenced to be carried out upon arrival."
Looking at his picture, I didn't get a sense of evil from him. Just a tough guy. Turning around, I nearly scream at the sight of…..
"What did you find Sara?"
"Papers along with two dead soldiers."
Behind him, I can see the rest of the team and that girl. Each of them are looking at the crash, each of them wondering the same thing. Where was Billy Coen?
"Change of plans. We have an escaped murderer. Same teams, head off and locate William Coen."
"Enrico, shouldn't someone go with the girls?"
Enrico looks at us and then back at him. "I'm sure they can handle themselves, if not radio for help."
Looking over at who asked, I find that it was the same guy I first saw when I got here. As everyone went their own way, he walked over to us.
"Rebecca. Sara. Don't do anything stupid."
So that's her name. "We won't' Richard."
Richard? While trying to recall the name, Rebecca heads out. Just as I'm about to follow her, Richard takes my hand.
"Sara, when this is over I need to talk to you." There was something in the way he said it to me and the way he looked at me, that made me question what he wanted to talk about.
"Sure. Be careful Richard."
Before I could turn, Richard grabs me and hugs me. "No you be careful. Don't want your brother after me."
Brother? What was he talking about? Walking away with a confused look, caused Richard to share the same expression. With a deep breath and sigh, Rebecca and I head back into the forest. Moving a little fast, I pass Rebecca without knowing it. Until she finally catches up to me.
"What did Richard say to you?" There was something in her voice.
I stop and turn my head. "He just wanted me to be careful. That's all."
I wasn't into talking about it further, as I didn't have all the information needed to answer any question she might have. Moving through the woods, I felt like there was something pulling me back. Like I know I should just run away from all of this. But that would mean to leave Rebecca here to face it all. Almost alone. It didn't take us long before we found the train.
"Ecliptic Express?" I can hear the soft sound of her voice.
The second, the very second I touch the handle of the door, the rain begins to fall. It was cool against my skin and the smell was refreshing. I didn't want to go inside the train, but I was here now. Opening the door, the smell is the first thing I notice. It was far worse once we got on. The lights were barley lite and the bodies. From what I could see, there were little tiny teeth marks, but mostly slime and some blood.
"Hello? This is Officer Rebecca Chambers and Officer Sara Carter. We are here to help you." Why does that line sound familiar?
As much as I wondered why she said that, part of me was expecting someone to respond back to her. Shortly after she says this, the door behind her suddenly closes and locks. Which was odd, cause we both heard the lock. Like anyone else, she makes several attempts to open it. Turning away, I start to head down the aisle, carefully watching the dead bodies. I knew they were dead and yet something told me to keep an eye on them. As I did this, Rebecca checks the other way. Coming to my first door, I silently pray that it's locked. But with my luck, Rebecca was the one that found the locked door, and mine opened before I could touch it.
"This can't be good."
Closing my eyes, I walk through. The hallway was dime, just like everything in this train. The smell was horrible. It took everything in my body from screaming, throwing up, and running out. If only I could. But I can't leave Rebecca, she needs me to be here. Walking slowly and carefully, I tried not to slip on the slim and blood that covered every inch of the floor and seats. The moment that I take a single step, this sound sends my heart racing and almost out of my chest. It's a Spanish radio channel. I'm not sure what they are saying, but it needed to be turned off. As I go for it, Rebecca walks in. Picking up the radio, I look through the slim for the off switch. Once off, I soon hear Rebecca gasp, and then this low moan. I'm scared to look behind me, even knowing that something was either heading towards me or Rebecca. Turning around, I see this person, or the back of them, looking at Rebecca. Who is now white. I can tell that she's petrified. The guy moves, but there was something wrong with him. Rebecca raises her gun.
"Stand back! Don't come any closer!" Her voice is trembling.
The guy doesn't listen, just keeps moving. Not thinking, I rush over and grab him. He didn't feel like a normal person should. He was kind of squishy. Throwing him back, I can finally see why Rebecca looked the way she did.
"Stay down!" Rebecca yells as the guy gets back on his feet, tho he hit a few seats along the way.
No matter what she said, he just kept walking towards us. Raising my gun, I take aim, and attempt to shoot it. But my first, second, and sadly third shot are nowhere near him. It's only on the fourth that I hit him in the shoulder. Sending him to the ground, only to have him get back up.
"What's wrong with him?" I hear her voice, but it starts to fade as I watch him.
It felt like the world was going slow, and in a single but deep breath, I aimed and hit him in the head. Both of us waited to see if he would get back up, but he didn't. He just stayed there on the ground. Forever staring at the ceiling.
"Are you okay Rebecca?" I quickly snap out of whatever it was I was in, and turn around to see her staring at the man.
I have to shake her a bit in order to get her to look at me. "I'm…..I'm okay, I think. What was wrong with him, Sara?"
I just looked at her, I wasn't sure what to say. I open my mouth and try to think of something to say. That was when I realized, I couldn't remember why he was like that. It was like it was at the back of my mind and yet I couldn't think of one thing.
"I don't know, let's just hope it's not contagious." It was the only thing I could say.
Turning around, we slowly head, tho very carefully, to the next door. Thankfully the door didn't open on it's own. As we walk through, both of us are grateful that there wasn't a smell or dead bodies. It was nice, clean, and well lite. There were two doors and lots of windows. Looking out, a flash of lightning lights up these things moving fast outside. As Rebecca walks past me, I try to see if I could get a better view of whatever it was out there. But it never showed itself again. Catching up to Rebecca I find her leaning down at some dead guy.
"What did you find there?" I ask her as I check out the door. Great, we need a keycard.
"I think there's some keys on this guy." Rebecca starts to search his body.
Taking one last look out the window, I can see the rain coming down hard. Turning around, I see this guy, standing there. With a gun pointed at Rebecca. Guess he knew she was the better shooter than me.
"Rebecca, problem here." I slowly move my hand to my gun only for him to shake his head 'no'
"I got the keys Sara…..Oh shit." I almost laughed when she said that, but held it back. "Lieutenant William Coen.." The way she looked at him made me wonder if she was going to try and shoot him.
"So, you seem to know me. Been fantasizing about me?" He keeps looking at her.
"You were with those soldiers outside." Her tone suggested she thought he killed them.
Billy looked at her, with this look of annoyance, and then over to me. "Well, I'd love to stay and chat but I have places to be."
As he puts his gun away, we keep eye contact. "Wait! You're under arrest!" Rebecca tried very hard to sound serious.
"Ahh no thanks doll face. I've already had the cuffs on." He lifts his arm up to show us, as he walks away.
"I said, you were under arrest!" I wasn't sure at this point, who she was trying to convince. Us or herself.
Ignoring her, Billy continues to walk away. Looking over at Rebecca I could see that she was both annoyed and embarrassed by what just happened. "Maybe next time we see him, he'll let you arrest him."
"Next time?" She sounded confused.
"We're on a train that's locked. Where else can he go." I tell her as we start to head back.
"True. How are we going to get off this train and warn…" Rebecca starts to say when the window ahead of us breaks and a body comes crashing to the floor. "Edward!"
Running to his side, Edward looks at us, with so much fear in his eyes. "I'm so glad to see you guys!" He hugs both of us at the same time. "These things. They came out of nowhere and attacked us. Enrico told me to find you two. I haven't been able to find the others. What the hell is going on!?"
Before either of us could say a word, the windows in the hallway break, allowing three very wet dogs in. As they got closer, the smell of wet dogs was being mixed with something else. The smell that most of this train had. Death. Raising my gun before the others, my heart felt like it was about to leave me.
"What is that smell?" Edward as just before the dogs showed themselves.
"Death." Was all I said as we got a good view of them.
Parts of their body were missing. Their brown eyes were milky white and they were wanting to bite us. Raising their guns, I was praying that they had a better aim than me. In a blink of an eye, the fight had started. All three dogs charged at us. Rebecca and I were forced to move, as Edward kicked one down the hallway, we just came from. Focusing on the ones that were staring at us, I tried to aim for it's head, but got distracted by the dog leaping at Rebecca.
Freezing, Rebecca did nothing. "Get down!" I yell at her and fire one shot.
By some miracle, my bullet found it's head. But because I looked away, the dog in front of me jumped at me. Knocking me to the ground. The only thing that saved me was me, shoving my gun sideways in its mouth. I tried my best not to scream, but that's all that wanted to come out.
"Sara!" Rebecca's voice seemed to go in slow motion, as this gun appeared right next to the dogs head.
Firing, the dog went flying into the wall next to me, and my right ear started to ring. Really loud. Looking up, I see Billy with his hand out. I can't hear what he's saying to me, but I understand he's trying to help me get to my feet. Taking his hand, I make a poor attempt to read his lips. Which I sadly can't.
Moving to my left ear, I hear this. Kind of. "You need to be more careful."
Great. Now it's my turn to say something. Just hope I don't yell it. "Thank you Billy."
Smiling, he walks away. I couldn't place it, but something told me those reports about him were false. He couldn't be a killer.
Rebecca's POV= Train
After watching helplessly as this dog tried to kill Sara, I yet again watch as Billy saves her. I feel so horrible that I'm just standing here. Even Edward is doing something. He's killed the dog and is now heading this way.
"Is everyone okay?" Edward looks at both of us.
I'm pretty sure we both look and smell like hell. "I'm okay. Are you okay Sara?"
She looks at me, then down at the dog. "I'm okay. He didn't bite me or scratch me." She then looks at both of us. "Are you two okay?"
"Thanks to you, I'm still here." I try my best not to look embarrassed by this, but I guess I was, as Sara walks over and hugs me.
"Okay, we need to find a way off this train and find Enrico." Edward tells us as he heads the way we came.
"No use that way, we need to find a keycard to open that door." Sara tells him as she goes for the first door.
Following her, we find a bedroom. Nothing fancy like the rest of the train. There weren't any dead bodies so it was a small win.
"Why would someone need a typewriter." Sara asks as she looks at the desk.
Looking around, I find some papers. Most of what it says is unreadable due to some weird liquid being on it and what looks like blood. Yet there wasn't any blood in the room.
"I think I found some ammo in this desk." Sara turns to me.
"This train is messed up. Who owns it?" I ask her as we both head out the door.
Walking up to the next door, Sara waits for me to be ready. "I think Umbrella owns this train."
"Is this the Ecliptic Express?" Both Sara and I scream, raising our guns, only to have Edward to claim us down. "It's just me."
"Shit. Umm, yes this is that train." Sara says as she puts her gun away.
"Then yes. This train is owned by Umbrella." Edward walks in behind Sara.
Checking the room out, we find a body in the bottom part of the bunks. A briefcase that was opened. And the light was flickering. Makes you miss the other room. Grabbing the briefcase, I let Edward and Sara look around the room, while I went outside in the hall and looked at the papers.
"July 14th, orders came from the boss today. Looks like we're in charge of investigating the remains of the Arkley Mountains laboratory. We're moving in two groups, assigned to start checking what's left of the abandoned experiment" I didn't know Umbrella had labs here.
"July 16th, Unfortunately, the test production of B.O.W. (Type-Y139) had to be suspended because of this investigation. It's the same with Type-Y139. There's still so much we don't know about responses to the crustacean t-virus." I put down the paper to see Sara and Edward looking at me.
"The t-virus?"
I had Sara the paper. "June 19th, the day is finally approaching. I am growing more anxious. The Raccoon City newspaper and TV stations are full of reports about the bizarre murders in the suburbs. It can't be the virus. Can it? If it is. No. I can't think of that now. I have to concentrate on the investigation and make sure it goes smoothly."
All three of us, look at each other. "Is that paper suggesting what I think it's suggesting?" Edward looks at the other papers that are all smunded and pretty much just colouring the paper.
"Guys, i found a backpack. Let's put all the papers that we can read, in here. I think Enrico will want to see them." Sara comes out of the room with a small pack.
"What about the police?" I hand her the papers.
"Rebecca, I believe Umbrella owns the police." Edward had this sad look on his face.
Thinking about it, he was right. If they didn't, more people would be investigating the murders that were happening in Raccoon City. Makes you wonder who else they owned.
"Hey, Rebecca. We should try that key on the door we first found locked." Sara starts to head for the door.
"You guys found a key?" Edward walks next to me after I handed Sara the key.
As we got closer, something in the back of my mind said that something was about to go wrong.
Billy's POV
Heading for the exit, I was hoping that by some miracle it had unlocked itself. But like everything in life, I wasn't that lucky. In fact, I think it has more locks on it. Tho I'm not sure how it's possible as there is only one lock. There was only one place I could go and there were wanna be police in that direction. Kicking the door, I'm feeling grateful that the girls aren't here to see me do that. But then again, the small chick might try to arrest me, which just makes me laugh thinking about her trying to do that. I needed to get off of this stupid train. Maybe I'll crawl out the windows the dogs broke.
"Shit!" The door started to open and the first person I see is that Sara girl.
Not wanting to go up the stairs to see those creepy eggs covered in slim. Almost screaming, the door behind me opens. Walking through, I'm happy to see that it's clean. Yet again, I almost scream when it closes and locks.
"What the hell is going on with this place." I wasn't sure who I was talking to.
Looking around the small room, there wasn't anywhere for me to hide. There were the stairs that went up and a door that seemed to lead to a small kitchen. But before I could go up the stairs, I hear the sound of a key unlocking the door.
"When was the last time you heard from Enrico?" I think it was that Sara girl. Opening the door, she walks in and stops when she sees me. "Billy?"
Seconds after she says that, the door shuts and locks on her. We both try to open the door and for reasons unknown the key no longer worked. We both could hear the others trying to break the door down, but it wasn't working.
Beep beep
Looking down, Sara finds a hand radio on her hip.
'Sara are you okay? We can't get in!'
Looking at me, I could see the same feeling reflected in her. "Well I can't get out. Rebecca, you and Edward look around. I'll try to find a way to get out." Putting the radio away, she turns to me. "What are we going to do Billy?"
I opened my mouth, but I didn't know what to say to her. So I just say anything. "We can check upstairs to see what's there."
"Sounds like a plan, I'll go first." Sara heads up, with this confidence I wish I had. "Stop looking at my ass."
How the hell did she know I was? My face goes red. "How good are you with that gun?"
She slows down. "I'm not that great at it. I'm new to S.T.A.R.S."
For some reason the look on her face, made me feel bad for bringing it up. "While we are here, I'll help you learn."
"Thank you Billy." She starts to trail off.
"What's wrong?" I walk up next to her.
There at the back of the dining car, was a body of an old man. He was slumped over. A small fire on the table ahead of him made me wonder how much longer it would be, before it spread. Walking with her, we go to check if the guy was still alive or dead like the rest of the train.
"Hey, are you okay?" I reach out and touch his shoulder.
Moving his head, he looks at us, opens his mouth, tilts his head back, and it falls off. Both of us scream as we back up. This can't be happening! Soon his body starts to ….
"Holy shit! He's breaking apart!" Sara finishes my thought.
Grabbing her, I put myself in between her and the creepy thing. As we watch, the small little pieces begin to pile up on each other, creating this large blob, that takes on the form of a person, with a face. Wobbling towards us, both Sara and I take our guns out.
"Look out!" Sara pulls me away, just in time to see this grey slimy arm thing, come wiping by.
Not waiting for us to recover, it wips at us again. Only this time it hits Sara right across her face.
"Sara!" I yell as I go for her, but get stopped by that thing.
Getting up, we take aim and unload a full chip into him. With each bullet finding its mark, the thing's body ripples in a way that makes me almost puke. Much like my stomach convulsing, so does the thing. Into thousands of little creatures, heading our way!
"Back the fuck off!" Sara yells as she grabs some of the table cloth that was on fire, throws it on the ones nearest to us.
"Quick thinking." I try to catch my breath. "Are you okay?"
Before she can answer me, in the distance, we hear this high pitch singing. Moving to the window all we see at first, is the rain. And then the lightning showed us. A man, standing in a small puddle of what looks like water. Singing to who knows.
"Who is that?" Sara asks what my mind was thinking.
Afraid to know, I turn to her, just as the train comes to life,
To be continued…...
