A/N:
@Lunary: I hope I don't disappoint you. :)
You might find Kyouya Hibari here a little OC. Can't nail their personalities. Hahaha.
Anyway, go on.
Chapter Two
Tsuna stared into steel gray. Brown ones to gray eyes. He rubbed his own and yawned in his hand before looking back at the patient he should have been looking after. What time did he sleep? Was that even enough?
"Good morning." Tsuna greeted with a small smile. "Want some water?"
"Hn."
He took that as a 'yes' and stood up to pour water in a glass. "Any pain?"
The man kept quiet.
'Not the conversation type.' "I'm Tsunayoshi Sawada. Call me Tsuna since my whole name and my first name are mouthful. But it's your choice if you want to call me Tsuna."
He didn't receive any reply.
Tsuna went back to him and put a straw on the glass full of water. "Here, for easy access."
The man took the other end of the straw and sipped some water.
"I'll finish it if I were you. You're dehydrated." He advised.
The man took the advice.
He removed the straw and put the glass on the side table. "Want anything?"
"Doctor." A rasped voice replied.
"Oh. No need to call him." Tsuna stated with a small smile. "Shamal-san already knows you're awake. We already know your name too."
The man tensed up.
He turned his smile in a reassuring one. "No worries. I didn't let him call anybody. Not even the company your working for." The man saw his eyes turn orange. "Don't want them to hurt you again."
"Why..."
"Hmm?" Raging orange eyes became warm brown. "Because I hate how they treat you. It's not right. Telling you what to do when you should be doing what you want to do."
The man stared at him.
"It's okay, Hibari-san. I know it's a little confusing that I know what they're doing to you. I know lots of people. And some tell me about things here and there. Big or small information is important." He brushed the hair away from Hibari's face. "Want some burger? I'm famished."
"And I thought he's the one who's gonna eat." They looked towards the man who just arrived. "You and your stomach, Tsuna."
"What? I'm just hungry." He pouted before facing Hibari with a smile again and motioned a hand to the new person in the room. "This is Shamal-san, your doctor."
"Yo." Shamal greeted as he gave him an over-all look. "You look okay. I mean who wouldn't when you're with this guy."
"What does that mean?!" He accused, mocking a scandalous expression. "Hibari-san! Shamal-san is bullying me!"
"I am not! Don't sell me to an ex-prefect, you shit!" The doctor panicked.
"He cussed!" Tsuna complained to Hibari.
"Hey!" Shamal chided.
Then he beamed as he stood up. "Kidding. I'll go get some burgers and request them to preheat them up."
Shamal followed Tsuna who walked towards the door with his eyes. "Don't go to the bathroom and cry like a baby."
The brunet frowned as he opened the door, not looking back."I will not. And who told you that?"
"She did."
"Oh man." The brunet groaned knowing it was Hana.
Shamal and Hibari waited for him to go before they looked at each other. Hibari glared at the doctor while the latter smirked at him.
"Who would have thought that the Namimori's demon prefect will be found here, restricted with all his movements. Found a terrible sky huh?" Shamal mocked.
"Tsk." Hibari tutted in irritation.
"Aw. Can't use the usual catch phrase anymore?" The doctor taunted more.
"Shut up." The young man growled.
Shamal shrugged. "Anyway, hang out with Tsuna. He'll keep you company till you're healed. He's a good motherhen. You'll have fun with him."
Hibari raised a brow.
Then the doctor smiled a little with exasperated fondness. "And he's pretty interesting. Just wait and see when he comes back."
True to his word, Tsunayoshi came back not only with the burgers he promised to bring, but with so many things in his arms. Ranges from flowers to variety of healthy food. Hibari almost questioned out what happened if he didn't control himself. Although the brunet did say that he was pampered by those people he passed by all the way to the canteen and back.
The two spent their time together as the noiret's bruises and wounds heal under Shamal's supervision for past the week. Tsuna won't even leave Hibari alone not until someone he trust stays with the latter. And whenever the brunet comes back from wherever he went, Hibari would notice the added pint of cheerfulness in the usual brightness.
They were enjoying the silence when a phone rang. Tsunayoshi and Hibari looked at each other. It was the patient's phone. Before the latter can even reach out for the gadget, Tsunayoshi already dived for it and answered the call.
"Hello, Tsunayoshi Sawada speaking." Tsunayoshi stated with precision, eyeing Hibari who glared at him. "He's not available at the moment. Or in any instance... He's under restriction, ordered by the authorities."
Hibari stared at the other with big eyes.
Sawada almost laughed at the noiret's expression before his smiling face twisted into something angry with his eyes battled between colors of brown and orange. "Are you telling me you want to go against the law just to retrieve him?"
Hibari felt a shiver went down his spine after hearing the coldness of Tsunayoshi's voice as he asked that question. "Tsunayoshi-"
"I do not care if you're his boss or his sky or what the hell are you to him. I want you to shut up and listen to me. You are just a sky who'll die once an element break its bond with you. A sky who can never find a good element once all the other elements get a hold of an information that can destroy you as one. Now if you don't want to lose a cloud, I advise you to stop being a fucker and fix your attitude before I fix it for you, got it?"
Hibari watched as the brunet calmly cut off the call and look at him with a smile, as if he didn't just threatened the other side. Then he felt warmth softly surround him as Tsunayoshi sat beside him. He realized that it's been years since the last time he felt warmth. When was it? Before he left Namimori? Before he left home?
He blinked when he felt arms on his either sides, hugging him lightly with a hand patting his head and his forehead resting on something warm. He looked up to see Tsunayoshi smiling softly with eyes closed.
"Sometimes, even the strongest kneel, Hibari-san. Even the most composed boss cries as he let go and brood on the pressure put on his shoulders. Humans have feelings. We aren't robots. So you can always rely on people as long as you trust them and they trust you." Tsunayoshi whispered to him as he tightened his hug on the skylark. "Clouds maybe proud and independent, but you're still an element of the sky. And as an element, you are bound to be accepted. You are bound to be the sky's shoulder, and the sky as your shoulder."
"Tsunayoshi..."
"I get it that I'm not your sky, but lean on me okay? We may not be friends, just acquaintances perhaps. But still, I'm with you. As long as you're here, you're my responsibility."
Hibari fisted Tsunayoshi's shirt and let himself succumb to the sky flame that's accepting him with warmth and safety.
Tsuna stared at the heavens as he rested his head on the glass window. He was lowly humming a tune as he gazed outside. He can feel his heart throbbing in pain again. He really hates it when he's alone with his thought. He has this little tendency to be extreme. Do drastic things that are so uncalled for and very irrelevant.
"Is there something wrong, Tsuna?"
He moved his eyes and looked at the person who asked him. He smiled. "Nothing. Just tired, I think."
"I didn't overwork you, did I?" The quizzer asked again, sounding worried.
Tsuna shook his head. "You didn't, Yukimura-san. Just tired really. And it's already three in the noon, so it's understandable that I have this urge to sleep."
"Oh. Would you like some coffee then?" Yukimura offered.
"No. I'll be okay. I'll just go home early." He assured as he stood up, patting away the dust from his clothes.
His officemate had his brows shooting up in surprise. "You're not going to the hospital?"
"Nope." He replied with a smile. "My acquaintance was already discharged two days ago."
"Oh." Yukimura whispered before nodding. "Be careful on your way home."
Tsuna took his bag from his seat and shouldered its strap. "I will. Don't overwork yourself, Yukimura-san."
The other scoffed. "Won't want to do that. You're a scary motherhen."
Tsuna sweatdropped on that then waved goodbye to his boss. He was walking out of Vongola Corp when he bumped into someone. He apologized softly without looking who it was and walked around the person. As he walks, he looked at the stores he passes by for anything interesting to buy. He noticed some good ones, even a Japanese traditional tea set. He was going to look away when the alien in his head knocked. He just sighed exaaperation before going back to enter the store and purchase the tea set.
Arriving at his apartment, he put away the tea set on the counter before jumping for the couch. He didn't turn on the lights, nor the lamps. He just too tired and too lazy to move. Too defeated to do anything.
When Shamal announced to him and Hibari that the latter will be discharged the day after, he felt happy and sad at the same time. Happy because his friend will be free from the bed, yet sad because they won't be together anymore. He really likes the silence they both share. It's comfortable and peaceful.
And now he doesn't have it anymore.
He faced the ceiling and stared at it. It's normal right? His heart clenched in pain as the thought of him being selfish again. He shook his head and faced the rest of the couch. He doesn't want to think... Nor feel... He just want to be empty instead of feeling the pain. Because being empty is just being curious. While feeling pain is just dying over and over again.
He was falling asleep when his phone rang. He let it rang till it went silent. It rang again, and he let it pass by. When it rang for the third time, he reached out for it and answered it.
"Yes? Tsunayoshi Sawada speaking." He stated in a very small voice.
"Tuna-fish? Are you okay?"
"Oh hey Tousan." Tsuna greeted, making his voice a little cheerful. "You calling, but not on your usual sched."
"A gut feeling." Iemitsu replied. "You're the first I thought of and got worried, so I called immediately to check on you."
It took a second for Tsuna to reply. "...Hana called you?"
"Called me for?"
Tsuna sighed, relieved. "Nothing. Just blabbering and tired."
"Oh. Were you sleeping?"
"I wasn't." He replied. 'I was wallowing.'
A beat of silence. "... Tsuna. Do you want to go here in Italy? To unwind a little?"
The brunet opened his eyes. "Where did that idea came from?"
"Hmmm... I miss my fish."
Tsuna chuckled. "I'll think about it."
"Okay. So how was your day?"
Tsuna smiled. "My day was..."
Tsuna stared at the person in front of him.
The man raised an eyebrow.
The brunet blinked.
"What are you doing here, Hibari-san?" Tsuna questioned, still surprised at the sudden appearance.
Hibari shrugged.
"Uhm... Do you want to eat fruits? I have some in here. I only have water though." He offered, a little embarrassed with the food he had stocked.
Hibari nodded.
Tsuna took a blanket from his drawer and spread it on the floor. Then he took a basket from a safe box and put it in the middle of the blanket. Hibari removed his shoes and placed it by the side before sitting on the blanket. Tsuna placed a bottled water in front of his visitor before joining too.
They sat in silence as they ate their respective fruits. Tsuna has this happy expression on his face. Feeling almost contented. But he's worried why Hibari is there in the company building, inside his cubicle and eating fruits with him.
Did something happen? Did he got into a fight again?
How did Hibari even know the brunet works in the very establishment?
"Hibari-san?" Tsuna called softly.
"Hmm?" The skylark hummed while munching a grape.
Brown eyes inspected the passive noiret. "Something happened?"
"Hn."
Tsuna took that as a 'yes'. "Will you tell me what it is?"
"Fight. Sky angry." A casual delivery, but his alien detected guilt and anxiety.
Tsuna winced, not liking tone and idea that someone made the person in front of him insecure. "Why did you fight?"
Hibari munched on a grape. "They were stealing."
"Did you beat them up?" He asked, carefully looking for any positive reaction.
"I did." The other answered, sounding a little smug.
Stealing. Tsuna smiled and reached out for the man's head with a clean hand. "You did good."
Hibari gazed up to Tsunayoshi as the brunet tousled his hair. He watched as his acquaintance sat back and eat apples again. He can still remember the bunny apples Tsunayoshi makes when they were in the hospital like it was just yesterday.
He discreetly looked around the cubicle while still eating a piece of grape. For a small space, it feels nice. The place is neat and well arranged. It doesn't feel cramped. It's quiet too for an office, even though there are a lot of 'tap tap's of keyboards and staplers outside its walls. It's like a whole different place.
His eyes went back to the man in front of him. He noticed how thin Tsunayoshi is and how he looks small for his age with his fluffy brown hair and big brown eyes. He's almost a teen in the noiret's eyes. And amidst all the men in suit in their company, Tsunayoshi is the only one who's wearing casual attire. Not semi-formal, or something that fits the place. Just casual. He's in shirt right now though, questionable bandages wrapped on his arms from wrists to elbows.
He's curious tho... How come this sky doesn't have any elements with him? Hibari never said something about being a cloud but Tsunayoshi already guessed it right. How come he's very versed with the concept of dying will even?
"Tsunayoshi." The said man looked at him with complete attention. "You're a sky, right?"
Tsunayoshi nodded. "Yes."
"Where are your elements?" He questioned.
The brunet blinked before smiling cheekily. "On their ways, I think. Maybe on traffic."
He frowned. "Tsunayoshi."
Sawada chuckled good-naturedly. "I have no elements. Nor am I searching for some. Not like elements would want me in any ways."
"You're being a herbivore." He chided before freezing.
The two stared at each other. Hibari's eyes were a little wide with shock while Tsunayoshi is confused with the term. Then the latter nodded as if understanding what the other meant. As if accepting the insult.
"It's okay." Tsunayoshi assured. But it turned out like he's convincing himself in the skylark's ears. "I am more like a herbivore in this kind of situation."
The two continued to ate.
When Hibari left, Tsuna felt a hollow hole on his chest. And that was the last normal encounter they had.
Tsuna sighed before pushing himself out of the ground to sit. He rubbed his stiff nape before stretching out. He loved how his bones popped. After that small happy popping, he patted himself for his phone. Unfortunately, the gadget was confiscated just as he suspected. He shrugged then looked around the place he's being held at.
Oh yeah. He got kidnapped. He knew something will happen by how his head throbbed in pain that morning. He was really careful all through out the day too. But he didn't expect his captors to take him by the sides. Literally.
The place has only one door, a small window and a lot of boxes. Obviously, it's a storage room of a warehouse or an abandoned building. Other than the things, the room is pretty much stuffy and almost dark if it wasn't for the light coming from the small window.
Tsuna decided to get up from his sitting position and walked towards the boxes. He opened one container and rummaged in it. The first box contained papers. Papers containing some transactions, financial reports and stuffs. Obviously owned by who knows what company that is keeping him in that storage room. He decided to inspect it later and placed the whole carton on the ground to move to the next one.
He kept on rummaging on every box until he arrived to a conclusion. Three out of nine boxes have weapons in it, be it firearms to simple short range ones. Some were papers, others were drugs and there are some clothes too. He changed for some clean shirt after feeling stuffy in his old one. He did lay on the ground with it so it's understandable on his side.
He was going to explore more when he felt the alien in his head hum in alarm as he heard footsteps getting near. He went immediately to his spot awhile ago and laid there again. After he closed his eyes, the door opened. Footsteps neared him and a soft 'thud' was heard as a heavy something was placed beside him. He stayed still but relaxed when a foot nudged him in a weak manner before it trudged away. Seconds later, the door closed and the footsteps started to get farther away from his earshot. He opened his eyes to see what was placed beside him.
Tsuna sat up abruptly and checked on the person next to him. His hands trembled as he checked him for any injuries. His heart pounded against his chest too, when he found a bruise on the skylark's arm and wrist. He placed a hand on Hibari's face as he stared at the cut on the latter's corner lip and the bruise by the right eye.
He sighed in surrender and sat in crossed legs. He stared at Hibari's face, speculating of who did this to his acquaintance and tried imagining them being killed with his own two hands. Not that he can do it now, but they'll have a piece of his mind once he gets their names.
He was shook off from his stupor when he noticed Hibari gazing at him. He automatically gave a smile with a small wave.
"Morning, Hibari-san. Had a nice nap?" He greeted cheerfully.
"You're here?" Hibari questioned and tried to sit, but he pushed the former down slowly.
"I was also kidnapped. They took me first before you came. And lay down. I'll go get you some clothes as a make shift pillow." Hibari relented while he stood up to go for the boxes.
"Tsunayoshi." His companion called out.
"Yup?" Tsuna responded immediately, rummaging on a box. "Do you feel any pain? What's wrong?"
"They didn't hurt you, did they?"
Tsuna shook his head in answer. He returned to the noiret's side with a make shift pillow of shirts. "Nope. I guess they made me as your bait, huh?"
Hibari gave no response as he lifted the noiret's head and put the pillow under.
"They're your enemies, right? Some people you took take care against your boss's orders? Or probably your boss's thugs or something that has a grudge on you. Not surprising. Maybe they saw us together at some time or they gathered that we're acquaintances." He gave a small smile and patted the skylark's head. "Thank you for trying to save me, Hibari. It's reassuring that there is someone out there who still remembers me."
"You're going sappy, Tsunayoshi." The noiret commented.
Tsuna laughed, earning a scowl from his companion. "Just tired. Haven't slept for good hours."
Gray eyes stared. "Nightmare?"
"Insomnia." He waved off before looking around. "So should we get out after you take your nap?"
"Any plans?"
He pointed a finger towards himself. "Me? Why ask me?"
"You're the one who came up with the idea." Hibari shrugged.
The brunet frowned a little. "You know, Shamal-san told me things about you." Hibari tensed up a little. "That you were a prefect in Namimori. That you have this certain type of language regarding animal classification that few can understand. That you don't take orders from anyone. You respond to questions with small replies. That you're a lone wolf but strives to protect the town of Namimori. Maybe that personality made you a cloud. And to be honest, I want to see that side of Kyouya Hibari. The relentless unbeatable type even though I like this you too."
"I can't." Hibari whispered as he looked away.
Tsuna chuckled as he tapped the ex-prefect's bruise on the right eye with a finger. "It'll take time. I mean you already called me Herbivore three weeks ago." He tapped the other's cheek. "You're still aloof. A cloud." Then he patted the arm with bruises. "And now, you're here because you tried to search for me when they took me. A sign that you want to protect." Then with a small sun flame in his forefinger tip, he tapped the skylark's chest, where his heart is. "Kyouya Hibari is still there. Hiding, and waiting to be released. So if you can't now, you will in the future."
Hibari gawked at Tsunayoshi when he felt his strength being replenished after the brunet tapped his chest. He doesn't know what the other did, but it feels good to have his energy back. It's like he ate a full meal of his favorite dishes without knowing it.
He watched brunet read some papers from a box he found. Honestly, he felt relief after seeing Tsunayoshi uninjuried and cheerful. To see him taking care of him again. He likes how the herbivore gives him smiles and care. Like a mother to her child.
Maybe it's just him craving warmth from a sky.
Going back to what happened that very day, he can't stop himself from clenching his hands to fists in anger. He's blaming himself for his incompetence. To include someone he knew to his punishment, it's unbelievable. His sky is unbelievable.
If only he could get away. He could just unchain himself. He didn't choose his sky. He was forced into a contract. He was forced to obey and be the cloud. To be fair, he's tired of this situation, but he can't go. He's bounded. And no one can save him. No one will save him.
"Hibari-san?" He gazed up to his caller. "You ready?" Tsunayoshi questioned, stacking some papers inside this jacket he probably got from some box.
"Hmm?"
The brunet gave a small smile. Almost a sadistic one. "I have a plan."
But maybe...
Just maybe someone will.
