Disclaimer: okay, so, basically… this happens post-Avengers, post-Winter Soldier. Here's the thing… we aren't going to worry about what happens after this time for now in the canon-story line. That being said, we are going to completely forget that Dark World exists. So, let's review; we know Sam (Falcon) exists, but Loki hasn't "died" yet. So…. yeah! As always, enjoy and stay safe… criticism and reviews are appreciated.

"Umm… we may have a problem," Steve says into his phone.

"What would that be? Is it Loki… had he finally been found? I'm looking forward to causing my share of pain on that idiot when he's found." Sam responds.

Steve looks down on the, currently unconscious, man with contempt. Sure, the man had, in a matter of days, nearly destroyed New York and taken over the world; but he didn't want to cause the man harm. The last time Steve had seen Loki was when Thor was returning him and the Tesseract to Asgard. Shortly after, news that Loki had escaped returned to them, and both Thor and SHIELD went on the lookout for him. All news reports and sightings were kept under close monitoring, and Steve was busier than ever with checking out some of the more suspicious ones. Most of them ended up being false alarms anyways, but it kept his mind off of… other things.

Steve barely had any time to himself now, and he spent his free time sparingly. He continued to take runs through the park and around New York, often during the night when there was no one to disturb his thoughts. That's what he had been doing when he saw the fallen man in the park. At first, he thought it was a New Yorker; possibly a homeless man or someone who had taken a great fall and might need help. That's why he had offered assistance. But when he had gotten closer, he recognized the cold face of Loki.

Now that he was looking closer at the man, shining a flashlight over him to see better, he was beginning to see things that worried him. Scratch and burn marks covered the visible parts of the god's body, and many were covered in blood. He was still curled up, with his knees pushing into his chest, like a child hiding during a thunderstorm. His face is twisted into a look of pure fear. To Steve, it doesn't look like he's scared of being caught; but more of Steve himself. As if, Steve would hurt him as he had so obviously been hurt before.

Its the very thought of that that causes Steve to say into the phone, "nevermind, just another false alarm."

Sam sighs into the phone, "alright, now get some sleep. I'll see you in a few days."

"Yep," Steve says before hanging up.

He looks down at Loki with a sigh, "what am I going to do with you," he mutters to himself. Finally, he realizes that, before anything, he's going to have to bring Loki back to his apartment before anyone realizes that the god has returned. He can come up with a better plan from there. Summoning up the rest of his strength, Steve kneels down and picks up the god, bridal style. From there, he runs the rest of the way to his apartment. The night provides as a cover for him, blocking the view, from anyone who might be up, of Loki still asleep in Steve's arms.
