"This doesn't have to get any messier, " Fury says.
"Of course it does, I've come too far for anything else… I am Loki, of Asgard."
Oh, so that's who he is. Not much high hopes now, after I've seen what he did with the Destroyer, I think to myself.
"And I am burdened with glorious purpose."
Dr. Selvlig, who is leaning over one of the dead scientists, says, "Thor's brother?"
"We have no quarrel with your people, "Fury reasons.
"An ant has no quarrel with a boot, "Loki says,"
"Are you planning to step on us?"
"I come with glad tidings of a world made free,"
"Free from what?"
"Freedom. Freedom is life's greatest lie. Once you accept that, in your heart, then you will truly know peace." he turns to Dr. Selvig in the middle of his speech, emphasizing his point.
"Yeah, you say peace. I kind of think you mean the other thing."
"Sir, Director Fury is stalling," Barton says, looking up at the growing energy at the top of the holding chamber. I look up at it and realize that he's right, this thing is going to collapse in on itself any time now.
"He means to bury us."
"Like the pharaohs of old."
I notice Barton placing a hand on his gun which is still hanging on his belt. I chose this moment to strike, and try and stop him. I quietly sneak closer while they talk. Right before he grabs the fun, I run at Loki. I leap into the air, with the dagger aimed at his heart; my only goal is going to do as much damage as possible. Moments before the dagger impales itself into his chest, he turns around and uses his spear- which I have now decided is more of a scepter than anything- to make me freeze and float in mid-air. "Hello there, I really don't appreciate attempts at being killed."
I try and squirm my way out of the invisible hold, "well then maybe you shouldn't try and kill my boss or mind control my uncle."
"Ahh, this one yours?" he looks at Barton.
"Yes, sir. Her parents were killed a few years back. She's not my biological niece, but I look after her. Her godfather is Agent Coulson,"
"Mhh, must not have yet had the pleasure of meeting. Well, I guess you could be of some use," He moves the scepter into the air and points it to my chest.
I inhale sharply and prepare for my mind to be overrun with commands from Loki. Instead, I stay my normal self. "W-what happened?"
"H-how did you…" his eyes widen, "apparently the scepter believes you to be more useful with your own mind. Be a dear and don't cause too much trouble. I do have a schedule to keep, after all, and I would hate for it to be delayed." he gives a quick nod to Barton who raises his gun without hesitation and shoots it into Fury's chest. I hear myself screaming, but my mind doesn't allow me to truly comprehend what's happening.
None of the turns seem to be affected by the shot, neither does Loki. They continue with their days as if no one just attempted murder. Loki waves his scepter, causing me to fall to the ground. My training with Barton does me one good and helps me to maneuver myself just enough to land on my feet. Instantly, Barton grabs my arm and walks me forward. The rest of the men follow Loki, with Selvig grabbing the briefcase containing the Tesseract as he passes it. The pack travels down the staircase with complete unity.
The staircase leads to the garage, storage bay downstairs; where Agent Hill had been loading the prototypes of projects onto trucks to get them shipped out to another base. "We need these vehicles," Baton tells Agent Hill.
She gives Barton a strange look, "who's that?"
"Don't know, they didn't tell me."
He helps Loki into the back of the truck, before pushing me into the seat between the drive and passenger seat. Dr. Selvig sits to the right of me, and Barton is about to get in as well when Hill starts shooting at him. He quickly returns fire before jumping into the truck and driving off. More turned SHIELD agents follow in a car behind us.
